I thought that Mary Wickes's only job was in Sister Act. I guess she had other acting jobs as well.
hebneh, You are soooooo right! Have you ever seen Mary Wickes with Gertrude Berg in "Mrs. G. Goes to College"? WONDERFUL! Loved her in "White Christmas" of course as well as "The Christmas Gift" with John Denver....Rosemary Clooney said she was a wonderful gal.... Don't make 'em like those gals anymore!

Thelma Ritter was a wonderful actress. Only those who appreciate good acting noticed her talent. She often got nominated for an Academy award but never nailed one cause of other as-good-as-her competitors. I love watching anything she's in it. She reminds me of one like her still present to date, Sally Field, only Sally won herself 2 Oscars +

Ruby Tuesday... you are absolutely right! What bugs me the most is that she was "Uncredited" in movie "Letter to Three Wives" and she had a fairly big role in that. And she was hilarious! Her typical Thelma Ritter self. Disgraceful that she received no credit for that role! I found that out when TCM aired the movie about a month ago. Ben M. Was giving the backstory and mentioned it.

Yes. Very annoying., by the way, if you have never seen movie "-Letter to Three Wives " I highly recommend it. The entire movie is classic. It is aired frequently on either TCM and FXM Networks.

I know that's what I love about watching old movies looking at the cars furniture the styles.
Hitchcock's favorite TV director, Robert Stevens had a flair for the half hour playlet and knew how to put in a LOT of Hitchcock touches. Note the accent on food, desserts, malted milk and at the end Thelma Ritter with a sappy romance novel and a plate of gnawed chicken bones by her.
Love Thelma Ritter in everything she has done! Love this Hitchcock episode. One of my favorites! I still record them on ME TV channel every night! I must have seen every one, just like Twilight Zone, but can watch over and over!

Sonya Freeman. Sorry, Sonya, Josephine the plumber was played by former child actress Jane Withers, who often played the brat in Shirley Temple movies. (She was a doll in real life!) I see and hear the resemblance, though!

I watch this episode all the time on Hulu. I had no idea until now that it has a Hitchcock introduction, because it doesn’t on Hulu.

How ironic that you say actors were genuine . I admit that actors were better in those days. Narcissism was not socially acceptable back then and it seems it is celebrated today. But acting by definition is fake.

This is the second time I have seen Thelma state she was a size 10 and I believe it was in a short skit like this...I know back then weight was a big issue and they probably made her say that..humiliating for her. BUT NOW..LOL..size 10 is wonderful

Clothes sizes were much different in that era.
She writes a letter to the father and tells him how much she cares for him. The guy shows up and knocked at the door. She shows him the letter and as he reads it , the guy takes out a cigarette lighter and burns the letter. She says "Why did you do that"? The guy smiles at her and starts moving towards her. She says "No! " "No"! Mr. Nash starts strangling her. "Noooooarrrrghhhhhhhh!" The scene fades out and Alfred Hitchcock said the police apprehended Mr. Nash.

I understand! LOL! IN fact, last night ME TV aired parts 1 and 2 of one on my all time favorites "I Killed the Count ". Part is tonight. I believe that was the only multi- part story he did. Of course, being Hitchcock, he Had to make it 3 parts rather than the standard 2!
