    If you are not responsible enough to keep firearms away from children as well as teach them a healthy respect for them, you should not carry. My 3 and 4 year olds see me carrying and handling every single day and mostly don’t even care or say anything about it. Every once in a while, they want to take a look in the safe.

    I was taught gun safety and handling very young. Back then I had terrible thoughts about myself and other people. I'm very grateful my parents had all of the firearms locked in a safe that I couldn't access when I was going through bouts of depression. All these years later, I still always have everything locked up and unloaded. The exception being my EDC, when I go to bed it sadly goes to bed in a cheap safe.

    When I was a teenager, my dad had his pistol in one of those cheap plastic gun cases and he had one of those shitty red trigger locks that come with many guns. Always knew where it was, even if he didn't know I did. One day I was home alone and someone started beating on that door and, being alone in an apartment on the 5th floor with nowhere to go, I opted to create a key to access my only means of defense. The key in question is just a knife that I heated up with a lighter to melt and cut around the padlock on the case. The padlock came right out without any issues and a set of pliers twisted the trigger lock apart in even less time than it took to get into the case.

    The “collection” is in the safe. The EDC gets locked in a 511 pistol case at end of day. No access off my person. The key is on my belt loop all the time. I carry a grip of keys, not bragging, and that adds a layer of obfuscation for anyone who’s looking for the key. All that to say, stay vigilant with kids, with everything.

Even so after we got back from a long hike and he put his gun on the island to unpack the truck my younger brother picked it up (it was still in a holster and he was only 4/5) but still even knowing the rules won’t always be enough.

    So, my solution (that works for ME) is the vaultek slider safe. Overton is correct that the biometric sensor can be finicky, especially in a high stress situation, but it also has a keypad that you can program a 4-6 digit code.
    Now like everything else, practice is key. Just like you practice the motions of unholstering your firearm and getting sight picture, you’ll need to train getting to your safe, getting where you place your finger to unlock it, train punching in the code, train yourself to give your finger a quick wipe on your shirt before you scan…etc.

    In my experience, the EZ is great training tool. Until the EZ, my mother was reluctant to go shooting but has been going shooting with my father every week (sometimes forcing him to take her). She did this for about 4 months before she asked me how to get a red dot on the pistol. After trying to get her to carry for years, in the span of 6 months, she went from nothing to the EZ to a PDP f w/ rmr, tlr7, and is signing up for defensive classes on her own.

  • @TwillyZXY
    @TwillyZXY Před 2 měsíci

    I've been thinking about doing the molded grip idea for a while now. I'm working on other projects but it seriously could be reasonably easy to accomplish so I wanna try it. Cover a dowel with molding putty and try to get a good grip on it like you would gripping a pistol. Then try to use one of the myriad of scanning devices/softwares to get a relatively accurate 3D scan of the molding. Then from there it's a small hop and skip to CAD over an existing frame. May not be exactly viable to put on an oem frame but to actually print a new frame with that mold. That or make silicone sleeves over your existing guns. Hmm, Something I've wanted to explore a bit.
    Wont need to be too good of a scan either. Even a pretty good general fit would still be nice and personal. I'll start some more brainstorming ;) I'll keep you updated if I ever manage to make this work.

    I have a 6 and 11 yrar old at home, I conceal carry every day, when the gun comes off the body it goes into a lock box by the bed or into the thumb print and combo safe. I also keep a couple of rifles under my bed that arent for self defense use in Hard body nylon felt cases with combination locks on them. That being said, my kids are both very aware of the dangers of firearms and are constantly discussing gun safety with me, and they both occasionally go out and shoot .22 from the bench rest with me to get them comfortable handling real firearms safely. So far i have never had an issue with either of them attempting to access any of the firearms, i know this because they are all stored in on camera locations that i review regularly. I have had two slip ups with my concealed carry gun over the years, once leaving it under the seat of my car (a place I rarely placed it in at the time and never place it in anymore) and forgetting about it until my wife was at work in the vehicle, thankfully no kids had been in the vehicle. The other time I removed my holstered weapon from my pants too put on long johns before work and forgot it on the coffee table rushing out the door, luckily no one was home and the gun was on camera in that location so i was able to turn around and watch it until i made it home. These two instances scared the hell out of me and have made it so that now my weapon never leaves my body unless it is going directly into a locked container.

    Clarifying question about 12:02 when you're talking about first guns. The comment seemed to be about first guns in general, and when you went on to talk about the 3 best options for a first gun you specifically said carry options.
    Anyway my question is, do you think someone's first pistol should be with CCW in mind? Or did you just mean those are the best options if you're getting your first CCW?
    Would you list the same 3 guns if your friend said "yeah, I dunno about carrying yet, but shooting seems like a fun hobby and having something for home defense would be nice."
    Mostly ask, because if I was getting a friend into shooting and gun ownership in general, going straight to the assumption they're gonna carry might be moving too fast.

    Wanted to let you know I thought the drone shot was pretty cool. It showed you can actually hit the target and that your not full of shit>. Garand Thumb had a dude on his channel once that claimed he could hit a target at a ridiculous distance with a .22. Was so dead set he could Mike paid for his plane ticket out, and he failed miserably. Glad your doing better BTW.

    my systems a bit over complicated, steel box blocked in with a 1 ft concrete wall around to the opening got a 6 key lock on a 3 inch thick steel door needs all 6 keys to open it keep all the things i don't want living free in the house locked up in there, 226 is the edc and that thing is always where it should be if i don't have it holstered or can't have it on me the thing is in a carry box with an airpod in the case, despite all the precautions vigilance is far better than overly complicated systems of securing things because people big or small will find a way in the one way you'd never think of.
