This was them attempting to balance out more than one version of the character, and satisfying nobody.
When Raiden loses hope:

@@MegaBekem the joke is that Cole is so generic when it comes to protagonist who discover a secret mystical world that he "accidently" mixed him up with two other protagonists like that. Liu kang and ryu aren't normal people who discovered they were special so the comparison was wisely not made.

Cole Young seems like one of those MK characters that appear in one game and are then never seen or mentioned again. Then again that's like half the roster.

The opening scene is the most fun part of the movie.
The Scorpion vs Sub Zero historia is BY FAR the most interesting part. Hiroyuki Sanada is stellar. And the protagonist is the blandest of bland generic characters.
The fact that you acknowledge the masterpiece of Kung Pow had made my day. Bravo, good people!
I forgot this movie existed and it was one of my favorites growing up. Immediately watching it again soon!

@@GMoftheTC Liu Kang is pretty much the Luke Skywalker/Harry Potter of the franchise he's always the one beating the strongest villains. Meanwhile Honzo and Bi Han are more like Darth Maul or Boba Fett cool looking characters with interesting back stories but the franchise doesn't revolve around them.
Liu is by far the most important kharacter in MK history

Liu was done dirty in this movie, but Kung Lao has been done dirty for the past 10 years
I don't know who writes the fake titles at the end, or the fake character names, but man. Always super clever and on point.
They all contribute in email threads, etc. then come together again to pick their favourites.
I too would like to know more about the writing process. I bet they have many writers, depending on what they are covering. But it all appears very uniform, when there's just the one guy narrating these videos. It's very clever.

They need to stop trying to ground these films in “realism” it’s why they all fail. Just do an outright straightforward translation of the original source material.
Fr though. (Almost) All anime and video game movies flop because, despite the fact their source material isn’t held down by any reality, they always try to make it fit reality. That or it’s because they’re trying to squeeze hours worth of content into a 2 hour production (ex. The Last Airbender (live action)).
Isnt making a video game movie based on the game another thing that makes video game movies fail?
@@Gooooofey well Detective Pikachu and Sonic are video game movies and are both pretty good (though if you want, you could argue that Sonic wasn’t based off the game, it was based off the characters and the world).
I’m annoyed that they have to over explain everything for the people that don’t play the games. I was there to watch people tear each other to shreds not to learn why there’s a mortal kombat tournament for the 15th time.
Also jax’s superpower is making better metal arms. Just give him his metal arms to begin with!

Companies are justified in worrying that if you just start a movie like this assuming people already know the source material it might be confusing for some people, so a little explanation is okay, but most people going to see Mortal Kombat and other movies like this are fans of the series already or have a basic knowledge of what’s going on.

the thing is, I like mortal kombats plot. the characters having stories that really develop (especially scorpions) and find it one of the more well written fighting game series
The whole movie I was waiting for someone’s heat to get ripped off or a heart to be taken out or just the most bloody unrealistic things to happen and in the end I got everything I wanted. I just wish there was more
