yea some of the costumes in this movie were actually pretty good and on point with the games. The robots, Sub-Zero, most of the Ninjas, Jax, Night Wolf... Unfortunately for us, they were in the wrong movie.

It was originally supposed to be sektor in the script and they changed it last minute but didn't change the rocket move.

candice williams this movie did ruin actors careers and Brian Thompson who was Shao Kahn had his career tank among other actors in the movie. Some of the the original actors from the first movie like Linden Ashby (Cage) turned down the sequel due to the poor quality of the script and Christopher Lambert was committed to another movie.

"Shinnok" Is portrayed as the white dude in the black robe and this isn't mentioned until The elder gods reappear and give Raiden his powers back at the end of the movie, that whole scene alone is equivalent to 1000 sins. People til this day didn't even know Shinnok was portrayed AT ALL in this damn movie, hell it just caught my attention last week🤦🏾♂️

I remember sitting in the theater through this turd of a movie. When I heard Rayden utter the sentence "Shao Kahn is my brother", I wanted to walk out.
To think, "Shao Kahn is my brother" walked so that "You're a Palpatine" could run and make a billion dollars. F*** both those movies.
Another sin, this movie had twice the budget of the first one.
Whoa, really? Looking back I'm sure it did after the first films' success. Judging by the CGI F/X though I wonder if New Line Cinema was by that point trying to do like Cannon Films had done a little over a decade prior: Funneling the film's budget into two or three other projects goin' simultaneously (e.g. the way the effects of Superman IV was effected because Masters of the Universe as well as another side-project was goin' on at the time, thank you my misspent childhood)? Perhaps so. I mean the original film was a mid '90s 1995 released film and the special F/X were certainly "of its time" but not super laughable or anything.
I've never played the games but I liked the first film. Imagine my horror when I saw this train wreck in the cinema.
I'll never forget watching it in my screening room when I was in middle school, opening night: The _SAME_ opening crawl as the original movie & opening theme. Only a different title. I was like "Eh? Did the studio ship the wrong film to the cinemas?..." and then the terrible voice-over shit storm that is 1997's MK: Annihilation _TRULY_ begins to fly in our faces, unfortunately. I think that a true "Best Worst Movie EVER!"-styled documentary, just as the one on Troll II from the late '80s, could be made for this movie. Especially since aside from future Darth Paul & Toad actor Pay Park being in the stunt departments here & one character actor working for Tarantino and the lead bad guy playing Shao Khan being the baddie in Stallone's vehicle that was Cobra, there's very little "making of" material for this one anywhere as well as a general sense of shame from the studios & actors.
Would be interesting for a documentary online or on blu ray to eventually tackle it with some rare on-set footage or something. Seems all involved via some freshly shot interviews might be able to give us the low-down on why, despite trying their hardest, this truly turned into some legendary super shit-sandwich of cinema:( I sort of feel bad for them as its not as if they all didn't give it the proverbial college try. Just that video game adaptions generally make shit-house flicks as well as the script was non sense toilet tissue and the editing & special F/X were truly dead on arrival.
On Wikipedia, $18 million for the first, $30 million for this one. OMG its true....
Whoa so my initial post was probably correct then! I hate to pat myself on the back but yeah, the funds for the film were most definitely shuffled off into another on-going at that point film project or two as back then in the '90s $30 million of a budget would have looked more like $40,000,000 nowadays and should have looked twice as better on screen. So yeah unless there were major music rights issues for the soundtrack or it went over-budget the in the end, super sadly, the actors & film makers _TRULY_ got fucked as the film at least should have not looked like an under $8,000,000 straight to VHS tape film of that time release. Something definitely went wrong there, no doubt :( Suspicious...

The amount of times I watched this film as a kid is unreal. To put it into perspective, I never actually owned the film, I rented it on VHS from Blockbuster. Now that I think about it, this whole movie has a very 'Power Rangers' style of storytelling to it, which I was also a fan of, which might explain why I loved it so dang much.

When I was a kid my parents were in a blowing league. I spend hours and hours in the arcade room playing mortal combat. When I ran out of quarters I would just sit and watch when the biographies played out on each player. Total geek. Loved the first movie but when the second came out I was so made how they made some of the most awesome characters so downplayed. Like mileena. But yes a guilty pleasure.

You forgot to mention in the scene where Lu is saving Kitana that you can 100% see every single wire used to pull each actor across, as well as their safety harnesses. I legit noticed this back when this when we got it on VHS when I was 14 (1999), that's how obvious those wires are.

This whole abomination is a sin. I remember loving it as a kid (because the first movie was badass) but re-watching it as an adult shows just how weak the movie was as a whole. I mean they just jammed as many MK3/MK4 characters in as they possibly could. Rain was in for a whole minute tops, and Ermac didn't even appear until the final battle. I'm sure there's a character or two I'm missing, I try not to watch this movie unless I'm super high, cause then the lack of plot doesnt bother me as much.
The extra characters were the biggest appeal to me as a kid, seeing all of the familiar faces eas dope as hell. Now...yikes. First one is pretty dope though

Mk did a bad job of explaining why scorpian is in the sequel. For those who haven't played the games Scorpian is a vengeful spirit out to avenge his family who were supposedly killed by the first sub zero. Seeing as scorpian is technically dead already you can't really kill him just send him back to hell

Mortal Kombat 2 was WAY better than Highlander 2(aka The Quickening.)
I was able to finish MK2. Highlander 2... I was still trying to figure out how Sean Connery was alive when I ejected the tape after 40 minutes or so.
I believe he wanted to do this film but he was committed to Fortress 2 or something
David Saul he was filming Beowulf at the time and was committed to the role so turned down the Mortal Kombat sequel

6:27 I'm not mainly upset about the fact that he doesn't know scorpion I'm mainly full of cringe and sighing at him because he thinks "oh if it's like that for this character (let's sub zero/kuai Liang) then it must be the same for this other character"(scorpion) it's just sooooooooo stupid that he thinks that 2 different characters would have the same story/re birth/whatever you like to call someone coming back from dying

Maybe because it's not "the search for the worst" kind of channel, more like the "let's prove that no movie is without sin" channel. This is one of the very few so bad they're good movies they have sinned.
