To give the movie credit, at least it portrays the Shao Khan fight accurately. You getting trapped in a corner and him annihilating you before you can retaliate

Sub- Zero’s brother is actually canon, the story is that he was killed by Scorpion, he became Noob Saibot while his brother became the new Sub-Zero

Poever Normally actors can turn down certain roles in their contracts but will end up in another movie that's not of their choice.

Alot of actors end up in bad movies because they turned down say 3 movies and have to do the 4th.
Stefano Pavone It depends on the contract you sign I guess (small companies or Disney would be different obviously), but if you're a big time actor then you'd need a movie company you trust to have a few movies lined up for you to keep the cash flowing.

People say Doug is ignorant about MK, but look at the random shit they threw into this movie.
Like that stupid twist of Raiden and Shao Kahn being brothers. Or Shinnok being their dad. Or Jade being a bad guy and trying to seduce Liu Kang. Or Jade being Asian, for that matter. She's supposed to be black. Doug sure got more right than these writers did!
The funniest part of about that. It took me a few years to realize, holy shit Shinnok was in this movie. Heck, you literally get barely two lines about the dude's name and they are so quick that I actually only caught it because I just happened to have the subtitles on one time.
So going by this movie, Raiden and Shao Kahn are brothers, both sons of Shinnok, which means Centerion is their aunt, and Kronika is their grandmother. What a fucking family picture.

I don't think he knows that there are actually two Sub-Zeros and they're both brothers or that Scorpion is a Phantom.

The difference being that the fight scenes in the first one made sense. They’re plot centric being matches in a TOURNAMENT. There is NO tournament excuse in this one.
Not to mention the fighting is subpar and basic, having a minimum of three punches and two kicks each. AND THEY ARE FAT WASTES OF TIME!!
but its starting to get annoying. Not even Campaign in later games have that much fight scenes
I think that may have been the issue of making a movie about a fighting game back then, ya had no idea what the hell to do outside the fight scenes!
"YOU WOULDN'T LIKE ME WHEN I'M LIU KANGRY!" is a total classic. I always crack up at it.
Biggest problem with this movie is that they just tried to throw as many characters in it as possible without any rhyme or reason. A character would show up, and then disappear never to be seen again.
Its almost like they filmed fightings before writing the script so they have to conected this characters from nowhere !!!

Hell. Rain, who is a demigod with water and lightning powers and a badass roundhouse kick, got knocked into a pit and died very early in the movie by Shao Khan.
They really did try to cram every character into the movie. Remember Kabal and Stryker's roles?

I laughed when he leans into the frame to watch the fight and Doug shoves him back out again.
I howled when the guys kept coming back, Bargho, ?, and it was so hilarious how Rob just kind of floated up from behind Doug wearing this shit-eating grin. The dirty little kitty thing was too much 😆😆😂😂

This whole time I thought Johnny Cage was the same actor from the first movie? They look very similar and alike.
To clarify- Sub-Zero and his younger brother were both in the Lin Kuei clan. They both had long and had to pronounce names, long story short, and decided to go by the name of Sub-Zero. Scorpion was killed, and then came back as a skeleton demon. But this new Sub-Zero is a brother of the original. It's the same storyline in the games.
I don't mean to sound like a pompous jerk on this one, but I didn't think this plotline was too hard to follow.

Yup. Found out through the games that the OG Sub Zero was responsible for thr murder of Scorpians people, or in the true case, Quan Chi. Subs murdered, and his brother takes his place as leader of thr clan. But Scorpian moves his revenge on the brother. Also, the OG Sub Zero becomes Noob Sabat. Then there's Frost, and Scorpian forgives Sub Zero. And a bunch of other stuff.
Christopher Lambert was so desperate to not do this film, that he agreed to do Beowulf. Possibly the only movie that can make this look competent. Seriously, Doug: you should review Lambert's Beowulf. It's unbelievable.

The Christopher Lambert Beowulf movie is so bad but in an entertaining way. I remember the head of the castle's guard force had a really weird outfit that caused me to dub him, "Captain Codpiece." XD

karlie kretchmer No, Sub Zero's NAME is Kuai Liang and he was killed by Scorpion. Kuai Liang then adopted the name "Noob Saibot" after having been sent to the Netherrealm (not outworld). Sub Zero's name is Bi Han and he's Kuai Liang's brother. Bi Han seeks revenge against Scorpion for killing his brother. Get it right, friendo.
Kuai Liang is actual the younger brother that we see as sub-zero now. Bi Han was killed by scorpion, and then turned into Noob after death. Get it right, friendo.

Seriously, if you thought the old games or this movie had a lot of fighting, check out the reboot trilogy! Both 10 and 11 in particular threw in every excuse for characters to fight ever. The difference is that these fight scenes aren't very good, so I can see why Doug would get frustrated.
The fights in this movie are all bullcrap so it's justified.
Okay, I know they don't really explain it in the movie, but on the subject of Sub-Zero and Scorpion: Sub-Zero in Annihilation is the younger brother of Sub-Zero in the first movie. After the original dies, the younger brother takes on his mantle (Sub-Zero is a code name after all). And Scorpion was already dead. He was a reanimated soul from Netherrealm in the first movie. You think they couldn't do it again?
The surprise you show for the number of fight scenes in a movie based on a *fighting* game is also kind of amusing.

I also would like to add that Sindel looks so young is because she's Edenian just like Kitana and they live for hundreds of years. I think this is explained in both movies. Also she's a reincarnation.

This is a prime example, of how a sequel should NEVER be done. When you can't get anyone back except for two of the main actors and a single supporting one, that's a huge sign that even a blind person should be able to read as "go home and think again."

Um. Sure this movie is bad, but commenting on how a Mortal Kombat movie has too many fight scenes seems... strange to me.
I wouldn't mind this movie having so many fight scenes, the only problem is that a lot of them are poorly edited and completely bloodless.
Not to mention the abysmal CGI special effects.
Netherrealm games have realized that when you put so many fight scenes in a 10 minutes, its starting to get annoying.
When you watch Action movie, Action movies need calm 10 minutes at least, to calm you down and interest you in the story.
If you come to Doug for a real review of movies by someone with cinema knowledge, you've made a mistake. He doesn't comprehend movies for shit. I know he is supposed to be funny but.. as an example. In the MK review, he is stating the reasons for the main fighters to enter the contest as well as their backstory. For Liu Kang, he just says.. "bEcAusE hE's aSiAn!" TWICE. Insinuating that he had no backstory and no reason to enter the tournament. Liu Kang was the protagonist, and had more development than anyone. He leaves his people because he doesn't share their beliefs and ideas. He is living in America doing his own thing, until his brother is killed by Shang Tsung in the tournament. He vows revenge and enters the tournament. I haven't seen that movie in 8 years or so.. And remember that much.
Doug often misdirects his audience, and lies about a scene to be blunt, to make his jokes. CinemaSins does this as well, but way way worse. Oh, to the fanboys, it isn't parody, nor is it satire. It's a lack of creativity and humor.
If you want comedy mixed with real reviews by level headed experienced people, RLM is your only source.

You can try to kill him all you want, he'll just keep coming back. Aside from that, yeah fuck this movie.

Dude, there's a lot of nonsensical bullshit in this movie, but the ludicrously choreographed fight scenes are one of the only redeeming qualities. It would have been much better if the runtime actually included a lot more of them.

Omg, so many things wrong with this movie which is a damn shame. I pretty much just liked the music and some of the fights. I just keep hoping that just like the videogames made a great comeback, so will MK get back to a silver screen.
Btw, with all due respect to James Remar and Brian Thompson, they were a total miscast here. Jeff Meek killed it as Shao Kahn in MK Conquest (and would probably have made a better Raiden here).
I've always been a fan of the game, ever since super Nintendo and I really love the mythos they've built over the last 12+ games
The world needs more Mortal Kombat-themed ballet performances.
