**Minor KH 1& 2 spoilers ahead**
The castle visible in the distance from Hollow Bastion/Radiant Garden is called Villain's Vale.
There's extremely little to no explanation as to what exactly the origin of Villain's Vale is, but that's the base of operations for Maleficent and Pete for most of KH2 after losing Hollow Bastion to the protagonists near the end of KH1.
Villain's Vale is where Maleficent and Pete are shown to be looking out from or plotting things in a number of cutscenes throughout the game. The top room (the only room ever shown, iirc) of the Vale is behind the giant Heartless emblem. It's the same room that Pete was in during the scene where he opens the door to the Timeless River.
I really hope that if you're able to revisit KH2 for this series or in your spare time, you check out that Room of Villain's Vale that we only see in cutscenes and hopefully share anything you find. I feel like the devs were originally planning more for that location and just scrapped it all at the end because there's a shocking lack of information for such a large landmark in that world :/

Now that you mention it I do remember a part in the story section or Jiminy's journal that says something along the lines of "in Villain's Vale the heartless swarmed, while Nobodys darted about" didn't really get what that was until now

Same here. I also always wondered why that scene tended to lag the emulator I was using. I always figured it was the disappearing/reappearing models, but the fact that it's rendering the game twice makes more sense.

The other castle in hollow bastion is actually Villain's Vale, The castle where Maleficent is when Pete goes to Timeless River. You can actually see allot of the model during those cutscenes and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a pixely texture of the Bastion from that cutscene as well. You probably even see it briefly in the cutscene.

I love the ingenuity game creators have all these little short cuts are really neat to see, some people think its lazy or cutting corners but its really creative and useful to do it makes me appreciate all the work the game creators do.

@@shikitohno47 I mean, the original KH2 was released on the PS2, so of course there are gonna be more shortcuts. Hell, even in modern games, there are still shortcuts used to make the game work properly.

Especially in older games, the shortcuts are not taken out of laziness but necessity. Cutting down on how much has to be rendered can save enough on processing power and/or memory to make or break a game's performance.

One of my favorite games, spent so much time with it when I was younger.
I really love the aspect of character models disappearing the second they're off frame, the struggle promoter disappearing while the camera pans a foot to the right is extremely...something. Interesting, I guess.
It's still impressive that they did such a detailed world and characters models for PS2.

This is one of my favorite games of all time! It was so interesting seeing everything from a different perspective. Also I truly love how you kept all the music in there from the game itself as you usually do, but this game was one of the biggest parts of my childhood not only because of the game itself but also because of the memories I’ve shared with my cousin whom I rarely get to see anymore. Bringing this long comment to a close this video has made me really want to replay the game, and has brought a tear to my eye tonight listening to all the music from each level reminiscing on all of the memories I shared with my cousin through this game! Thank you for doing this video!

The other castle by Hollow Bastion is Maleficent's hideout. You see it closeup in a couple cutscenes.

Indeed, plus the boss fight with Sephiroth is right next to it.
Yeah no those Pixar project files are going to be terabytes and terabytes of 3D content in an in-house Pixar format that you wouldn't even be able to view without a workstation that costs thousands of dollars and is connected to Pixar's private network (another thing you won't ever have access to) so you can navigate the huge amount of content they have and you'd also need their in-house tools (again, you'll never get access to these).
In the games industry we're very lucky to get white papers from Pixar detailing their research and developments, you're not going to get anything more than that out of them.
I don't give a shit who this guy is or who he thinks he is, Pixar is never gonna just hand over their project files to him even if he could view them lol. He could alter the movie to something weird and release it. No way in hell.

I appreciate the tinny audio effect during Timeless River segments. I had a crap TV when I first played the game and didn't notice, but was pleasantly surprised in the HD collection. I'm glad you took advantage of your own editing to simulate it.

It's a bit odd how it's not in its own map, seeing how cutscene-only places in KH usually are.
By the way, @Shesez, the Mickeys House map is generally thought to be from the "Mickey's Orphan's" cartoon, due to the winter and Christmas setting.
Roxas' house in the virtual Twilight Town is also on the street between Station Heights and the Sandlot. It's hard to make it out ingame unless you have a good eye and can recognize some buildings.

I can imagine that there's multiple separate rooms close together and the game simply warps the player between them. Or possibly the platforms and the movement path regions are switched in a single room with them outside.

a random game suggestion: MS Saga A New Dawn for the PS2 (or Gundam True Odyssey if you prefer the JP name), its got some interesting areas that im sure are hiding some secrets.
What a fantastic episode for a fantastic game! I loved all of the effort and detail you put into this episode and look forward to the next ones! I kind of wanted to see the boss fight in the Pride Lands when you back the second time so we could see how big the model of the boss was but that's fine. Also would have liked to see what the Lingering Will boss fight has to offer, like when he pulls out his keyblade glider or whatever it's called as well as his ultimate attack. Once again thanks for another great episode!
No need to apologize for this being late - it was WELL worth the wait! I never really got into KH myself, but I do respect the fanbase and the game itself for what it is, and this was a beautifully crafted tribute to the game.
