What does this Scottish guy think of five Canadian Whiskies? We were surprised! | Oak and Age

  • We gave a Scottish guy 5 Canadian whiskies from our own personal collection to see what he thinks of them. He's a relative newcomer to the world of whisk(e)y, so we wanted to know if he was going to like what the True North Strong and Free had to offer.
Can Canadian whiskey hold its own against what Scotland has to offer him back home? Here's what our ol' chap drank in order of appearance:
    - Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye
    - Alberta Premium Rye
    - J.P. Wiser's Triple Barrel Rye
    - Lot No. 40 - 11 Year Cask Strength (Northern Harvest 2018 release)
    - J.P. Wiser's - 35 Years Canadian Whisky
AND, lucky him, a bonus whisky - Okanogan Spirits Laird of Fintry Single Malt.

Like you stocked up on Lot 40, I am stocking up on Alberta Premium Cask Strength.
    Cheers.

Great video! Canada hogs most of the good ones for themselves and leaving barely any scraps for the rest of the world (Not so friendly in terms of whiskies haha). Pretty much the only Canadian whiskies I see outside of North America is the CC 1858, and "maybe" the Crown Royal.

Now it’s time for you to do an episode in Scotland... and show us some clips of the after party 😉

There's a $1200 bottle of Rye? Wow. Great info, you've inspired me to try more ryes. I have to try to get a bottle of Lot 40 from JP Wiser's.

Nah, the $1200 bottle I was referring to was actually a Bruichladdich 1984 edition. I see them around but I can't fathom dropping that kind of cash on a single bottle of whisky!
If you wanna get into ryes, I'd say Lot 40 is a good way to go. Even their regular bottles are good, but if you find the cask strength, it's #worthit
