- Hello everyone and welcome back to Inside Arsenal.
In today's show I look ahead to the game against Spurs and focus on the decision facing Mikel Arteta when it comes to his midfield. I also discuss who should start on the left of the attack and share what some of you have been saying ahead of the game. I also give my thoughts on the latest injury issue to hit Kieran Tierney during his season long stay in Spain.

Hi Charles, Jorginho has done his part for us this season. Thomas Partey needs to do his part and see out the remaining games of the season. The fluidity and balance he brings to the starting line up is a no brainer, it felt like Declan Rice drove with the ball a lot more against Chelsea.
Georgino played well all season but a fit partey is a level up

Partey brings confidence to the team. He should start against Tottenham. He should start for the remaining games if his contract has to be considered.

I'd happily take a winger instead of a 9 this summer. We really need a difference maker, an elite dribbler and someone who's an absolute nuisance. In games like the away game against Bayern, i think the need for a winger who can just run was so clear. Having said that, the games against west ham and Fulham in December showed we need a 9 too

My fear if we go with Martinelli is his defense, there has been a couple goals recently where he has been the one failing to track back and its been his trailing man that's scored. Trossard works harder, tracks and has the finishing, I think if its a toss up I would rather Mr Trossy everyday considering Martinelli's form.
We know they're going to counter and we need someone that's going to track back.

Lovely show as always. I would start Trossard and bring on Martinelli as the spurs players tire for his pace. This might be the kick start he needs. Also with the range of parteys passing I think he will find Martinelli more behind the lines

Charles I don't know who told you guys Leo doesn't have pace, he's pretty fast and he can control the ball at speed whereas Martinelli runs wild and loses the ball alot
Fantastic match analysis Charles on a game which was a difficult one to assess. I've seen so many differing accounts of the game, however you've got it pretty much spot on. Even if I disagree with some of your player ratings. Although I wholeheartedly agree with your MOM. Fantastic display from Havertz.
Interesting factoid. Chelsea wasn’t the first time we saw odegaard partey rice midfield. We saw it in the last 20 mins against city at home. Probably some of the best football we played all season. A shame we didn’t see more of it this season.
I think he meant the 3 of them starting a game together.. He's obviously made a few cameo appearances 🙄
We need to keep partey. His skill set and composure are unique. His playstyle also suits him as he gets older as he only relies on quick bursts
Charles, I’m still upset about the Arsenal - Aston Villa’s game. How did we not win or at least get a point from that game? This has contributed to make things difficult for us.

A draw would not have made any difference. The only way it would is if Man City lose a game and we draw another game. Realistically, we need to win all of them. If we do, that will be 49/54 points for the calendar year (W-16 / D1 / L1) - and that probably won't be enough. Man City are just to good. You never know though. Forest drew with City last year despite City having 99% possession and over a thousand shots on goal.
Villa game was always going to be tough.Its the 5 pts lost v Fulham that hurt us

A point wouldn't have helped and the win was hard to get imo. Villa are one of the best teams in the league right now and they knew we had to win. It was a shame to see our team not really show up but to me they just looked utterly exhausted.

Our best form (on the eye) I feel was before the World Cup last season. Partey was the reason for that fluidity.

So the North London game I think Artate should use the same Midfield we used against Chelsea ( Partey, Rice & Odegaad ) because most importantly I think Partey have improved strategically ( partey is like the engine oil of our Midfield while Rice is the engine itself and Odegaad is Pixton of the engine ) - Because if you notice in the Wolves game when partey came in Declan Rice immediately became a monster upfront & Partey can always connect the front attacking lines with his long passes from deep Midfield. Also our front line should be ( Martinelli, Kai & Saka ) because Tottenham always plays highline attacking so we need runners like Martinelli and Kai who from behind defenders to counter their back line. I know Troussard is our most efficient box finisher but he should come in after 65 or 70 minutes time.
Lastly our left fullback defender should be Tomi please No Zinni or Kiwor please 🙏.

I would start Partey 100%, Jorginho has been great at times but Partey is on another level. I would also start Trossard, for his lack of pace he makes up with his precision with his shooting. We would need to score first and early nd Trossard almost guarantees that. Martinelli can be unleashed in the second half if they (Spuds) i chasing the match and exploit their high line..

Partey was amazing against Chelsea... I was reminded that his nickname in Madrid was the octopus, because he just collected every loose ball. Passing through the lines and releasing the ball quick.
Against Poro we need Jesus' trickery while he is fresh and Martinelli's pace once he is knackered, hence starting with Jesus.
Tomiyasu needs to put Kulusevski in his pocket in the same way he did it to Salah at the Emirates last year.
If Jesus is fit to start this is 100% my starting lineup as well, otherwise it's Trossard for me
Hey Charles! I agree with your line up and line up dilemmas. With so many players fit (finally!) it's a difficult call for MA. Martinelli had some chances to score when he was brought on against Chelsea but didn't take them, which may mean Trossard starts, as he has been out most clinical finisher this season and has banged a few in recently so is clearly on form. Son last scored what will be a month ago. They lost 4-0 to Newcastle. I don't think they can handle us and will be quickly overcome, as we will be at them from the whistle at high intensity. Finishing is key, but 7-0 aggregate in the last 2 games, with Havertz, Trossard, Odegaard and White all scoring, hopefully we can not only win, but bag a few bonus goals as well, to make sure we get as far ahead on GD as we can.
Hi Charles. Reference signings, with PSR now in place, value is what Edu and his team will be looking at so BG at 100m is an absolute no-no. I think, with Elneny leaving, Nwaneri will come in, with Eddie leaving (im 90% sure of that) i think Biereth could take his place if he impresses in the summer friendlies and on the training ground. We need a Partey replacement of the highest calibre (though i still think White could be a monster there- we spoke b4 about that here), a right winger to do different to Saka and give him a break, a back up for Saliba, and a keeper with Aaron on his way. Be prepared for a few surprise sales though if good offers come.

..🤔 Absolutely in Agreement with the individual who asserts Partey should stay at least another year..As frustrating as it has been not having him play his Class is EVIDENT. Rowe,El Neny,Soares,Nketiah,Sancho could all be on the go .Next season we need another quality midfielder..Partey should be kept so that we can push on again next season

Hi Charles,why do you think we struggle to play against teams have have high lines? We've struggled to play against Villa in both games this season and also against Spurs in that game at the Emirates.Personally I would start Trossard on the left tomorrow, Martinelli is really struggling with confidence, honestly I can't remember the last time he beat his man on a 1 v 1.Leo is a very intelligent player,he can use that space left behind by Pedro Porro.

Bruno would be a brilliant signing, gives you more bite than someone like Frenkie without losing too much of that technical quality. The fact that we're in for someone like him over Zubimendi is reassuring I must say. Would rather us be looking at someone like Paqueta, Bruno and Frenkie who will directly challenge the starters more
If i had a preference on the midfield for Arsenal next season it would be either Fofana from Monaco or even Paqueta from West Ham. There's gonna be a lot of speculation regarding Arsenal and who they will sign in the summer, whether it be a Midfielder, Striker, Defender and a back up for Saka will just have to wait and see.

Hi Charles, I just can’t help thinking with all the goals we’ve scored this and last season, is striker really a priority? I think we need to shore up our midfield, get Partey and Jorginho replacements, one this season, another in a year’s time. The way both of these players help us play can’t be highlighted enough, even when we don’t score it’s almost always because we didn’t take our chances and we always create chances when they’re on the pitch.
For us to stay at this level for years the midfield must be addressed.

Considering we are the highest scoring team in the Premiership with Jesus missing for half of that, I just don't see how a Striker is priority. It absolutely has to be a top winger that can take some of the load off Saka. Anything else is a bonus.
For me, there is not even a question whether Partey starts. When he's full fit, he's an absolute monster. He also gets a new contract from me. Definitely Martinelli to start as well as Zinchenko.
Anyone know why the game is a 2pm kick off? I would've expected the usual 4.30 timeslot. Maybe the crowd incident last season? I'm hoping the earlier timing might dampen the home atmosphere a bit

Tbh, I do not think we need to sign a striker. I would prefer we get a back up right winger for Saka and reinforce the midfield.
What’s this Martinelli obsession? Geezer has league 6 goals - including a deflected goal vs City, and 2 against a tired Palace late in the game. He’s been poor this season, and Trossard has been producing the minerals with limited game time too.

Great show! I must disagree on your sentiment that Arsenal MIGHT not need another striker in the ilk of Havertz because of what he provides. Havertz has been great this season, I'm one of many that have grown to love his contribution. I do think Arsenal still need a ruthless #9, specially Viktor Gyokeres. He's quite similar to Havertz in playing style but he is undoubtedly ruthless infront of goal, and can create his own chances we desperately need that. He'd be a better option than Isak even.
Also, I hope Bruno G is a player we can really sign. We need depth and quality since Jorghino might leave and Partey has injury issues. That 6 position is so vital and we need an athlete player that can play 6 & 8. The season is long and the quality is increasing in the league. It's even worse in the UCL where the quality is incredible.
I suspect Son saying they've had a week to prepare means that they were given a week of rest, then a week of training. I think he's given the game away there, and I hope he gives the game away at the weekend by missing the target by miles if he's lucky enough to get a shot.

It would be crazy dropping Trossard for Martinelli! Yeah I get Martinelli is faster but his finishing has been terrible and Trossard has been our best finisher! He unlocked big games for us like the Porto game, Chelsea game and Wolves! why would you drop him? he HAS to start

Jorginho has been good but I expect the manager to maintain the starting 11 that includes trossard on the left...with trossard we are almost guarantee for at least a goal also let's not forget the mistake jorginho made in the reverse fixture that ended 2 2 draw because of the intensity..partey did well against Chelsea so he deserve to start..Am confidence arsenal will win.🙏🙏✊👍

If a team wants to pay top money for Partey, they have to sell him. If not, keep him and figure it out later. He should start at Spurs. Trossard is the hot hand, don’t know how you don’t play him. Good pressure on GM to work hard and find his way back (and he will)

Charles, the real question I have is, would Isaak WANT to come back to Arsenal?
People are saying that Partey took the defensive pressure off Rice but seem to have forgotten that we were quite open to Chelsea in the first half and if Cole Palmer had the same chances that Jackson & co had in the first half we could easily have conceded two or even three.
It was NOT a masterclass defensively by Partey in the first half though the second half was a big improvement.
Trossard will never be on the bench with his current form because he is the best finisher Arsenal have got right now
Koopmeiners from Atlanta will be the perfect fit for the midfield.
We thought Martinelli's pace would be the difference maker in behind against Bayern Munich - how wrong we were!
Trossard has consistently demonstrated that he is the best option from the start off the left hand side, offers more link up play and can tuck as a left 8, dovetailing with Declan Rice as seen against Chelsea. Martinelli's inability to play without Jesus and/Zinchenko means that we need to consider our strongest combinations and get them on the field. The Trossard, Rice, Tomi left hand side is superior in helping us to control the game. Additionally, Trossard + Havertz when they play together often score and offer a nice balance up top particularly if we aren't opting for an over-enthusiastic press.
Love Martinelli, but he hasn't done a single thing to deserve a start and would love to see him come off the bench if the game state warrants it. Tbh, would like to see ESR get another chance in that position, was sensational there 2021/22 and could be a more viable understudy for Trossard if that's the way we want to play. ESR has the pace and ball carrying ability - also under-rated shooting technique.
Lastly, could a switch to right wing for Martinelli allow him simplify his game and opt for cut backs, crosses and driving to the by line, committing defenders on the outside with his pace and trickery. Also a chance to give Saka a rest and bring in a quality alternative.
Without the knowledge of what’s going on inside the club as a qualification:
Arteta has clearly made a big, big mistake not getting many more minutes into Partey’s legs over the past month. It really is that simple.
Arteta should maintain the 1st 11 he used against Chelsea, maybe start Martinelli over Trossard ❤
Ruthlessness would be selling Gabriel Jesus this summer to make room for Gyokeres or Isak (as well as getting a player like Ollie or Neto). It is ruthlessness I haven’t been used to with Arsenal, but after last summer with what we did with the GK position you never know.

Hey Charles, with Newcastle probably only allowing 1 big sale of either Isak or Bruno, should we look to other clubs like a Frankie at Barca or my personal favorite of Marcus Thurman at Inter. Inter always need to sell one star and I think he (Marcus) has proven himself in Germany and Italy. He would be great with link play and not just a target man plus he can cover all across the Front Line. What is your take?

No debate. The side v Chelsea was for me our strongest fit eleven. Tell them to go out and wipe the floor with that lot up the road. If we have the same confidence we should knock them over. Start trying to get too clever and defend here and Jesus here and there tactic here and there ..and ..and... -. NOO - None of that Arteta just do the simple thing and play the strongest 11 we have and we'll hammer them.

But history teaches us not to be sentimental, final year of contract & so we should be looking to sell TTP & wish him all the very best, move on, move up, to be the best we must continually be ruthless.
