Glad to see all the steps in the process of getting it back together! Looks like the HV battery sat for too long without being charged. I'd plug in the HV battery charger and see if that helps. Also, the 12v battery can also be the culprit, here. Plenty of i8's have been showing HV battery issues and it was the 12v battery causing the problem because the 12v battery powers the EME that allows the HV battery to talk to the other systems.
Unless you guys forgot to reconnect the jumper which disables the HV battery. But, I think that would have resulted in a totally different error on the instrument cluster.
And like that, Pat saves the day. 🤙
Yes, since it’s a hybrid I assume the HV electric motor spins the engine to start it, it doesn’t have a starter so a low HV battery would not be able to spin the motor either because of low current typical with a discharged battery or more likely because the computer should not allow any load on the battery when it is below a threshold state of charge to prevent irreparable damage to the hv battery.
The dash warning to start the engine is confusing as if the battery is discharged but it still has enough juice to crank the engine. Hopefully everything is fine the battery charger will do the job
If it doesn’t have a charger they can push it to start 😝
The hv battery has plenty of charge, as is being displayed
The 'high voltage system disconnected' warning means that the system is still seeing the hv service disconnect/safety switch under the bonnet/hood is currently activated/open circuit (this will throw a minimum of 4 fault codes)
The low battery warning is for the 12v battery, as this is small and is not being currently charged by the DC/DC converter due to the hv system being shut down, it will be charged once its reinstated.
The engine will not start without the HV system being activated as the engine 'starter' is HV operated (this is the part that is at the highest point of the drive belt, that connects to the crank via the belt).

This was just a headgasket..
And overhaul/rebuild is far far more than this...
This wasn't even doing up the head as in Sandblasting it, grinding the vales/ seats, gnurling or replacing the guides etc...
Headgasket jobs are a regular thing for mechanics in hot areas... (can easily have 5 a week)
This was more a pain due to being mid engined though.. When they design the body and then try and fit the engine to it then it usually a pain for a repair..
They must have really gotten it hot though as it's hard to warp a three cylinder head(single V6 Head) ..
The longer the head then the higher chance of it getting warped... (Jaguar heads warp all the time)

I was expecting those aluminum block threads to strip when tightening the head bolts. It's a possibility and was an issue with the M54 engine if it was overheated. Threads would weaken and pull right out. Fixed one myself on a 3 I used to own.

You need an EOS tester to activate the battery and HV-system after it's been out and reinstalled
if the hv battery was just disconnected then no they don't, eos tester is only when you are actually doing internal hv battery repairs such as removing a battery cell, a CSC cell monitoring circuit, cable connections, etc. the eos test is for after those repairs, it tests the seal for the lid to make sure no leaks, tests the sme and basically says ok the battery box is ok to re-install into the vehicle. if the hv battery is never removed and taken apart it is not needed.

30 nm, then 90, then 180, that is the bolts stretching and thus putting a constant pressure on the head gasket. I have put together ship's sulzer diesel using a method similar but now most modern ship's engines we use hydraulic jacks to stretch the bolts on heads and bearing. very interesting video, enjoyed the troubleshooting and repair.

Yea and is a must to wear ear protection, face shield, hard hat, steel toed boots at least 6 inches of ankle support, jock strap, leather coveralls, dust mask, gloves, chest protector, double up the jimmy hats, wool socks, and dont forget the probiotics, protein shake, vitamins, mandatory 15 minute long prayer to the god of your choice and finally written and notarized consent from your mother, father or legal caretaker, next of kin, emergency contact, local sherrif and attorney with verification from a municipal judge. Really should just wear what the fuck you want and let the commenters on youtube who always say dumb shit like this to make themselves seem like they care about your safety and are responsible people giving them a sense of purpose and justification of creditability like they are a smarter and better worker than others...

Of course you are right when you say it should be everyones own decision what to wear and what not. But think of certain employment situations also, where not taking at least a certain level of precautions, e.g. by putting on safety goggles, or using hearing protection or whatever the task asks for, will simply void any insurance there might be.
And I bet for sure some of those who take that freedom to decide not to wear eye protection and get unluky to get an eye poked out don´t take it as their responsibility and obvious bad decision, but start to cry and blame everyone else and demand compensation.
Lets be honest, some are overly cautious and I am not sure that all the mandatory gear in some situations where waring is cumbersome and awkward really helps or causes issues. Some are ridiculously careless and just have been lucky so far.
And yes, I am very sure no one of us can deny not taking common sense precautions at some point because of, well your choise of knowing it better, lazyness, carelessness, thoughtlessness. I for sure can plead guilty for at least one of these in at least one situation. All well and fine as long as I am working on my own and are aware that all I do is my own responsibility.
But now what about working with more than one person, what about an apprentice at work? Would you prefer them taking precautions, or would you take responsibility for any possible injuries and the results thereof?
The least to expect, is everyone to know about the risks and the options, so making anyone aware of those. Only then should have everything to make an own, responsible decision.
If I am working on something where I know things can go flying or chemicals can get wherever they do not belong, I will happily ask anyone around to step back far enough away or pick up some safety glases instead of being responsible for someone accidentially getting injured by my actions.
No need to be a safety-nazi, but as well no need for such a ridiculous reply when someone just says waring safety glasses is a good idea. I did nowhere read anything like you absolutely must do anything like that.
