- When it comes to finding the best motorcycle camping sleeping bag, there are a lot of options. Some prefer mummy-style sleeping bags for motocamping while others prefer larger, more roomy motocamping sleeping bag options. I've tried a few and as a side and stomach sleeper of a larger size, there is no more comfortable sleeping bag for motorcycle camping than the Big Agnes Diamond Park series.
I've been using the Big Agnes Diamond Park 0 for two years now and I can say without a doubt that it is the most comfortable sleeping bag I've used for both moto camping and regular camping in my 40 years of spending time outdoors. It's the only moto camping sleeping bag I've ever used that has even come close to replicating the experience of sleeping in a bed at home, and it's one of the most comfortable, most versatile option on the market at the moment.

It is well worth every penny I paid for it! The first night I used it, I woke up in the early in the morning, and it took me a minute to realize, I was not in my bed at home. It truly is as comfortable as being in a bed.

I just spent my first night in my brand new Diamond Park 30 Deg 3-N-One Sleeping Bag in this (S.E. USA) hot & humid summer weather. I used it in the "Quilt" mode with the foot-box area zipped up about 14-inches to tuck my feet into. I did not use the bottom section with the sheet, pad-sleeve and hood at all. (BTW, This top of this bag will zip together as a mummy style bag without the wedge option, yes It's a little bit finicky to get it started zipping up, and of course the girth of the bag is a bit smaller, but once you get it started zipping up, it works just fine without having to buy the Wedge.) I used it as just a quilt, by zipping the bottom few inches up a bit to form a foot box and with the generous room of this top section to use as a quilt, I had a wonderful nights sleep with it on my new Boundary Deluxe 30x78 (Q-Core) Sleeping Pad. This System packs down pretty well in a compression bag. My primary use is for Motorcycle Camping so the size and weight are not nearly as important as it would be when backpacking. I am very pleased with my purchase so far. As for the Cold Weather usage, that will have to wait several months more for my opinion. It is VERY COMFORTABLE and I Love it so far!

Love it Dork. The cameo appearances were amazing in this vid. A great sleeping system for sure. Also a great sleep system is the Zenbivy light, which I use. It is very similar to the DP system, but much lighter. Gotta consider the weight when on a moto-adventure.

Great review. Travis sounded just like Ricky Bobby 🤣 I bought the zero degree poly fill. Kind of wished I got the down one for the reduced pack size but this works great. I had several other cheap bags and always froze my butt off. Not with this one ( as long as you have an insulated pad) I should have bought this years ago. Buy once cry once. Keep the reviews coming

I switched to quilts 3-4 years ago, so much more comfortable for me.
What bag are you using in the summer, maybe 45*-60*+nights or at what temperature do you make a bag change?
My dad always said, buy it right or buy it twice. I've never found buying anything twice cheaper than buying the best right up front.
Didn't spring for the diamond park but have the echo park and it pretty damn great (not quite as fancy as yours but a lot of the same features). Glad you found something that works great for you.
What’s the biggest differences? About $100 cheaper, and it doesn’t wrap around an air mattress?
@@airadaimagery692 I believe it's mainly a materials difference. The Echo Park has a similar design and requires the use of a mattress. The hood up top may not be as spacious. Also probably doesn't pack down as small. It's a great setup that really improves camping comfort.
Do they have a version with an insulated bottom that isn’t for use on a sleeping pad? I camp with a hammock instead of a tent but I really like the big hood on this bag. I use an under quilt for cold weather but anything above 45deg F I just use a regular bag. I’m a hot sleeper and have never used a bag rated for less than 30deg. even for winter camps.

Love mine too but just about burned up in it my last trip. Wish could find one with all the extras like it has but much lighter than O degree!!!

You should check out the Big Agnes 3N1 system. It's a quilt/bag combo with various temp ratings. Switched to it in about August this year and it's incredible.
I need to get some more feedback on these because I have been very skeptical about adding them to the store.

For us side and belly, arm under pillow sleepers, yes! I never realized how much it mattered until I was testing all these bags with tiny hoods.
using a 15* zenbivy which looks to be near identical to this. if you match one of these with a Haven XL you will have a sleep that i would put over most beds at home
Can’t agree it’s ya more on this bag. I bought my Diamond Park 0° bag last summer and love it. I cannot survive in mummy bags. The mistake I made was buying the 0° and not the 15 or 30° bag. I just don’t camp in h the winter. Used 3 times and it’s for sale if you know anyone who wants one at a great price. I’m buying the 15° bag soon

Did you purchase the 15 degree version? If so, how is the bag during summer months? I want to purchase the diamond park but I can’t decide on the temp rating. I’m leaning towards 15F just to be safe as I’ve found myself in freezing temps sometimes.

Best advice I got about sleeping out doors is. You won't be comfortable that's the point.
On paper I’d love one of these, they look so practical and comfortable, but in the end just way too bulky and heavy for me, I’ll stick with my Rab Mythic 400 for now. But I would imagine for those that struggle to sleep in traditional bags would find this a viable option.
$420? How small does that one fold up? And can you secure it to a mattress?
@@airadaimagery692 no it's a regular sleeping bag and it folds down to about 9x6 inches. I made a fitted sheet out of an old single bed sheet and fitted some elastic to it to hold it in place, so sometimes when its warmer i just sleep with my sleeping bag over me. my summer bag is a marmot micron 50 which opens fully up like a duvet, that works well in summer with the sheet on my sleep pad

Just to chime in, we have the compression and dry bag sizes needed for each bag on our website in the description section. Each bag temp version (0, 15, 30) uses a slightly different sizes so depending on the bag will determine which size bag you would need. The 0 and 15F bags use a 20L stuff sack and the 30F uses a 15L stuff sack

@Jason Linde Always happy to help and I just realized I didn't answer the other part of your question. It's not recommended to machine wash with an agitator BUT we did with our King Solomon bag (2 person version of the Diamond Park) and it came out just fine with our top load agitator washer.

You need to try the Zenbivy system. Nothing can touch it and all the major makers are busy trying to copy it. Its quilt that attaches to a top sheet with pillow hood. Sleeping a top sheet is so much better. I use it for ultralight hiking but it doubles as my moto bag too.
They have a pretty cool setup and I think both have some pros and cons over each other. Big Agnes has had sleeping bags that attach to the pad with a sheet like bottom before Zenbivy was even in business. Of course other brands copy each other, but I'd say Zenbivy got some inspiration from previous work at other brands prior.

I bought one of these a couple months ago and pair it with the BA Rapide.. my issue is how much room it takes up. Im a backpacker moving into motocamping. Old habits right... My husband rides a 1250GSA but im on a Versys 300... not alot of luggage space to say the least lol. So that eVent compression... what size did you get?
We use the King Solomon with 2 pads. It's the 2 person version of the Diamond Park. It packs slightly bigger than the diamond park but smaller than 2 individual bags. Since he has the bigger bike you can make him stash it on the big GSA lol

Big Agnes makes great sleeping systems but this one is too rich for my wallet. I also have the Big Agnes 50x78 Insulated Air Core Ultra sleeping pad and it's incredible. It fits the entire width of my tent so no issues sliding off my pad and fits my wife or one of my kids with me as well. I paired it with the Kelty Cosmic 20 Synthetic bag which was much less expensive than this bag but of very very high quality and warmth. Highly recommend Big Agnes and Kelty sleeping systems.
Does the Ketly Cosmic fold up as small as the big angus?

Ben, what size Sea to Summit | EVAC Compression Dry Bag are you using for the BA 0 degree bag? I just bought the 15 degree version.
The tag that comes with it tells you what size to get if you still have it. Iirc it’s a large/20l but I definitely might be remembering wrong

Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t all sleeping bags design for some type and rated actually or some type of pad, that’s actually part of the rating of the sleeping bag

Got the 15 degree a bit ago and it kept me very toasty in just my underwear in a mid 30s night. Very comfortable to side sleep on for me. However when I sleep on my stomach my feet stick out making me just a little bit too long for the bag which is a minor complaint. Otherwise very satisfied.
Just curious how tall you are for future reference for other riders? Want to make sure we tell them all the details.

I love it, but it’s way too big. It’s like 40 liters in a compression sack. Way too big, and I’m on a GSA!
Not remotely accurate. 11 liters compressed (20-25 liters uncompressed in a stuff sack)
@@trutherd It won’t even fit in a Reckless 80 rig. I’ve tried vertical and horizontal compression bags and it only fits in a duffel, and even then it uses the entire duffel. It won’t even fit in the 22l Stinger that comes with it. So 11 liters? Nah, you’re just reading specs, I’m actually camping with it.
Interesting, I'm not convinced that a down bag is the best thing for moto camping.
I've been mountaineering for 25+ year's, and have slept in many a down sleeping bag. From feathered friends to western mountaineering bags, the north face, marmot etc.
They all have been good, yet the one thing they suffer from is moisture management.
Down sleeping bags if get wet, or condensation gets them wet, then their insulation no longer insulates.
The sleeping system I use other than for mountaineering is a Wiggys survival shelter bag rated to 0°.
It has the big YKK #10 plastic zipper, and is stuffed with Lamilite. A very warm synthetic fill. It has a velcro flap in the middle of the bag and the sleeping bag can be worn like a poncho.
Making this bag useful in many situations, I've slept outside and have been rained on soaking the bag and me to the core. Temperatures into the low 30°'s.
While it wasn't ideal I did survive without hypothermia.
However that said, I unzipped it hung it up to dry and a day in the sun was mostly dry, enough so, to use it that night.
A down sleeping bag once wet to the core, will take a few days to completely dry out and fluff back up.
Or take it to a laundromat to dry it out and fluff it back up.
Personally I like to sleep under the stars, and will take the Wiggys bag and maybe a tarp to sleep under, married with a sleeping pad it makes for a great sleep.
Plus having a military grade zipper means if a snag occurs it is often easier to unsnag the zipper as to the smaller zippers commonly found on other bag's.
The older Nuptse TNF down jackets used a #6 YKK plastic zipper, again very easy zipper to unsnag. The modern waterproof type zippers tend to snag and can be very hard to unsnag.
Perhaps the dork will buy a Wiggys, which is made in the USA 🇺🇸 in Colorado, and give it a review.

You're right about down when it gets wet, it doesn't have loft to insulate. Getting them soaked to the core with modern fabrics plus treated down is pretty hard to do unless you lay in a pool or out in the open without any coverage. I drowned a bag with treated down and it dried out and lofted up in about an hour or 2. So, not all bags are created equal.
I've been curious about Wiggys and not sure if they are only a direct to consumer brand or something we could sell in our store. It would be a good alternative to those who have allergies to down. Of course, for moto campers, the concern is pack size and weight, depending on the rider and bike. Synthetic generally doesn't compress or insulate as much as down and ideally a bag compressed under 15L is ok and under 7L is fantastic for packing small on the motorcycle.

Yes down products are easy to compact, and they do have the lighter weight overall. However Wiggys uses a proprietary Lamilite insulation.
It's more similar to down than any normal holofil type of insulation that is pervasive in most of the big brands.
I've slept like a king in down bags, whether it's been on half dome laying in a portaledge, or on a glacier half way up Rainer and points in between.
Now that I'm a bit older, and camp occasionally with a bike, I leave the down at home and use this bag from Wiggys.
I'm not sure if they offer any affiliate programs or not. I do know they're a small family owned company in Colorado, and specialize in outdoor products for professionals, including military.
The sleeping bag I use is their 0° survival shelter in long. It's as warm as any of my 0° down bag's. In fact I've slept in it with a pair of sweats/t-shirt/ socks in minus 15° weather outside once. I got snowed in while doing a back country trip near Leadville Co, in late October. The forecast was for clear cold days/ night's, yet the weather forecast was incorrect.
Granted I was outside under half a tarp covering me and my bike, so perhaps the tarp added a degree or 2 of warmth.
This bag stuffs down to about 12inches by 8 inches, and tips the scales at about 7lbs. It's definitely not a bag I'd want to carry in a backpack or similar, but it's sitting on a bike, and unlike down bags or gear, synthetic bag's like this still insulate when wet.
Another bonus is the fact I use it's stuff sack that it came with, strapped between the Tusk panniers. Never have I worried about getting it wet or muddy etc, something that down doesn't offer.
I just wish I wasn't allergic to down otherwise I would be all over this :(
Thanks for calling this out! I've been on the search for good down alternative bags because more people are asking due to allergies. Big Agnes does make the Echo Park sleeping bag which is the synthetic version of the Diamond Park. We do not stock them currently BUT have been considering it. Pack size is going to be larger though.
