Hi David, Sam hoschar from Petersburg Alaska . You touched on all the features that I enjoy with my 1412 Laguna band saw. And yes the resaw King is the best blade I have found for resawing. I'm able to cut veneer at 0.035 in thickness consistently. I did upgrade to the Carter guides as well as the stabilizer model CRT 5 for use with quarter-inch down to eight inch blades I cut a lot of bandsaw boxes and different things Christmas ornaments. Again thank you for the time to make these videos and we'll see you in the next one cheers

Thanks Sam. Obviously your knowledge and skill with the bandsaw far surpasses mine. I appreciate the comment!!

Wow man, thanks for this video. You are so humble and to the point as well as showing all the features a bandsaw can perform.

Thanks for the video! You should invest in a remote control outlet for your dust collection. I picked one up for $15 on Amazon. Saves walking back and forth turning it on and off Fosmon WavePoint Wireless Remote Control...

Good video, Dave. Personally, I have not used hand tools only for a project. I’m hopeful that you can create a beginner level project/how-to. Thanks!

Dave, I have watched a couple of your videos and they are really well pitched for the "Weekend Warrior". Production is also appropriate. Notice it is 5 months since your last video. Hope you are still keeping the channel going.

Nice saw! Are the sparks normal? Also, where’d you get those goggles from? I like how they fit so snug around the eyes.

Hey David, why are there sparks coming from the top of the blade when you re-sawed the last piece?

    • @davidgagne7410

After watching the laguna set up video, I had the blade guides just touching the blade, causing sparks. I then called laguna and they told me to set the guides using a folded dollar bill between guides and blade. This stopped the sparking almost completely. Additionally I tend to push harder and faster than necessary. Have learned to slow down a bit and let the blade do the work.

@@davidgagne7410 thanks for prompt reply Man. BTW This and the question are the same account. I’m split between the laguna and the Rikon 14 deluxe specially with those ceramic guides costing over 100 bucks to replace and not lasting that much. Are yours holding up ok?

@@area50juan so far so good. Hopefully keeping them set properly will really cut down on wear and tear.

Great video. I am considering this saw. What is causing the sparking again? Is that normal with all band saws?

I have reduced it by adjusting the guides and letting the saw do the cutting. By that, I mean I tend to push the wood through harder than is necessary. By using less force and letting the saw do the work the sparking has lessened quite a bit. I still find it sparks on occasion and believe it is due to the fact the guides are ceramic. However, I am pretty sure a much more experienced band saw user could set this up so there would be no sparking after the guides "break in". Since I don't work with any flammable gases, I have no concerns.

Nice to meet you Dave. I just subscribed. I’m looking to upgrade my shop to have some more modern tools and Laguna is high on my list for options. I just scored several Fir beams and was thinking of making a new door system for the front of my house. I need to satisfy myself that a new tool doesn’t become a long standing dust collector instead of generating dust. Do you foresee a lot of use from your bandsaw? I would like to make videos, but need to get use to being in front of a camera and I have no idea how to edit and make them nice, so I feel your pain.

Mark, I am very happy I got the band saw. I find myself using it, at times, rather than the table saw. Seems when the opportunity arises where either one can be used, I turn to the band saw. Quite, safer and easier to set up. As far as Laguna is concerned, I don't know if I like the guides, have not been able to get rid of the sparking completely, am sure it is my lack of ingenuity. Over all though, for the price, I am very happy with it. I called customer service regarding the sparking and they got right back to me with some suggestions which helped. Additionally, I broke a part off the throat plate on my table saw. I sent an email asking how I could buy a replacement part. They called me twice (I never answered either call as I was busy). I then got an email telling me they had tried to contact me, my saw was still under warranty and sent me out a replacement part. They have a reputation for horrible customer service but, the two times I contacted them, they got back to me right away. Granted, my issues were very minor, don't know what would have happened if one of the issues was of significant cost. Hope his helps. Dave

Also, do you have to change the blade to a thinner one for tight curve cutting?
