Glad you like the saw,I bought one last month when Jet had 10% off.I set it up using your method and it works perfectly.I removed the keepers on the fence so it can just be lifted off when not needed. Now if Carter would just make a stabilizer to fit this saw without having to buy extra parts.

I bought this saw almost a year ago and I love it.
I watched Alex video when he showed Carter products in some kind of convention. I noticed he is very knowledgeable. Then after I saw this video I ordered a Jet bandsaw through Home Depot. I usually buy Dewalt products but I decided to buy jet bandsaw and I am very happy.

I would like to add a mobile base. In your comments below, you mentioned one with steel wheels from Woodcraft. Can't find it on their website. Also, I put on a 3/4" Wood Slicer blade. Tires are only 1" wide so can't center the teeth on the crown of the wheel. Even so, with your setup, the saw does a fabulous job of resawing. I've had this saw for several years and had been struggling until I saw your video. Thanks for the great advice!
Hello I bought this saw 4 days ago after watching this video. Thank you, it's a great saw. Just a couple comments for future buyers. It's a heavy saw, about 300 lbs. so get a friend to help you set it up. It's a fairly easy straight forward set up so don't be afraid of it. It comes with the trunion mounted to the frame not to the table as shown in the video. You do have to mount the table to trunion, only 4 bolts. Mine came with 2 rust marks on the table but cleaned up nicely with paint thinner and steel wool. If you need to clean yours, wax it afterwards so it doesn't rust again. The set screw for the lower thrust bearing adjuster is 3 mm not 4 mm as the instruction sheet calls for also a ball end style hex wrench helps install the upper dust port. The wrench supplied just won't get it done. The only other tip I have is when you go to turn it on for the first time push the green button with really firm pressure. It moves about a quarter inch or so before it engages the real switch and that inner switch has a very tight spring. After you work it a few times you'll get used to it. Happy Sawdust and thank you Alex for the all the advice on every ones comments. I had bought 5 Timber wolf blades when I bought the saw, guess I'll be ordering some Carter blades at least in the smaller sizes.

First cuts went like a dream. The only bandsaw I have for comparison is a 9” plastic delta and they don’t even seem like the same type of machine.

I just bought this saw a year from the day you published this video
I watched this video and you were right on about all of it. On one of the other videos you preloaded the 1/4 inch blade but didn't on the top. So this my Jet 14 you don't need to preload the upper back bearing
My experience with this saw has been mixed. I bought it on a black friday deal last December. When it arrived, I noticed that the upper guard (the red housing with vertical slot to allow blade installation) was cocked so that I couldn't raise it all the way; the red housing ran into the white steel housing, which was cocked. After talking to Jet tech support many times and trying to correct this, Jet replaced the saw. The replacement saw has a few minor issues (the upper guide block was roughly machined and two upper guide bearings wouldn't rotate at all), but Jet supplied replacement parts and the saw is now running. I also have a Laguna 14|12. The Jet is beefier and taller. The lower guides are harder to set on the Laguna because they didn't provide enough vertical clearance under the table for larger hands. Also the upper post was 'cocked' on the Laguna and I ended up shimming it to get the ceramic side guide faces to be parallel with the blade. Overall I'm not sure which I would pick if I could only have one. I think the Laguna might get the nod by half a gnat's whisker but my impression is that if I had spent a little more and got a Jet 15", it would have been a better saw in terms of guide adjustability and perhaps quality.
I wouldn’t disagree that the 15” is a better built saw and their customer service was exemplary. Sad you got some issues but I’m thrilled they stepped up. Thanks for sharing
I just purchased this bandsaw and found this video to be very helpful. Just want to note that my new saw has several upgraded features in comparison to the saw in the video:
1. All guide bearing adjustments can now be done without tools. This includes both top and bottom guides.
2. The lower thrust bearing is no longer attached to the table. It’s part of an adjustable block assembly that holds thrust and side bearings, and is attached to the frame.
3. The small panel that covers the upper thrust bearing is gone, and the tool-less adjustment knob is always exposed.
4. The lower guide guard is now a single unit, and is hinged to move out of the way for adjustments. It does not require the use of any wrenches.
All of these updates make setup and adjustments much easier than the version shown in the video. Note that the old part number was 714400, whereas the new saw part number is 714401.

@@matteason989 Hey, Matt. After my post, I realized the 01 part number is just for the saw, and 714400K remains the part number for the entire kit (stand, fence, etc.). So, it appears the changes I listed above have been rolled into production with no change in part numbers, and therefore no way to tell which version you might get before purchasing the saw. My guess is that this stock is turning over pretty quickly these days, and a saw purchased today is likely to have these updates. FWIW, I purchased mine in May from Acme Tools. Sorry for the confusion, and good luck.

Great video just got this bandsaw, seems they made some upgrades. The new version needs no tools for adjustment, it’s all thumb screws and cams.
Alex. I really enjoyed your very educational videos so far and they helped me tune up my old Jet bandsaw for great re-sawing. Thank you. I just had my new 14-SFX saw delivered to me yesterday and assembled it today. After adjusting the blade and bearings per your instructions I tried lowering the "upper guide rack". I saw that the distance between the back of the blade and the upper thrust bearing increased almost 3/16". Now if I move the rack upwards, it would not move past 10" up, as the back of the blade pushes against the thrust bearing. I called Jet and the guy had no idea how to adjust this. Maybe you have an idea. Thank you.

Alex. Great review. I have this saw on order and wanted to know bout the guide system. I have watched your other videos and have a question about the stabilizer you use when cutting the reindeer. Can you make the scrolling cuts on this saw with the guides it comes with or do I need to get the stabilizer from carter?
I just bought this today, based largely on your recommendation. It’s a beast compared to my 14” Delta 3/4HP! The newer version doesn’t have the thrust bearing as part of the table - it’s setup more like Carter guides now. Take the time to align the fence properly and it cuts super accurately.

@@bandsawlife2660 Actually, I noticed that when you applied the tensioner, there was no clunking sound like there is on mine. Even with no blade on the machine at all, when I raise and lower the tensioner, it makes a pronounced clunk about halfway through the travel. It’s a brand new saw, so I don’t think there could be any wear issues. There’s that and the upper wheel rubs on the left part of the blade guard, which is annoying. Maybe something’s misaligned in there...
There is a cam that needs some dry lube.
@@bandsawlife2660 Ahhh. That I can do. I’ve been super happy with this saw, and it freed up my little Delta 14” so that I can actually use it to learn since the Jet is used for production resawing. We just delivered 200 parts to our customer and they were thrilled with them. If you have a minute to waste, check out Nordost on the web. They make INSANELY high priced audiophile cables, and those cables have precision machined wood blocks with their logo etc. We make those blocks. You, sir, have been an invaluable source of information and advice and I can’t thank you enough!
@@bandsawlife2660 It turned out to be the set screw at the bottom of the cam was “about to fall off” loose. I had to disassemble the mechanism to get to it, but it wasn’t hard. Just the bottom bracket with the through-bolt coming off was enough access to tighter her up and get back and running.

I’ve sent your message to Jpw to see if they have a reasonable solution. You can purchase aftermarket mixers but they get real expensive and are way more accurate than a bandsaw needs to be.

I bought the 14DXpro (the pro has the cabinet base instead of the open-frame stad) a few years ago and love it. How does the DX compare w/ the SFX? I also got the Kreg rail & fence, and the micro adjuster - great addition to a saw that doesn't have a fence.

Hi Alex: Very informative video. Just subscribed. I've just come across your name as I am acquiring shop tools to go into my newly reorganized garage. I recently purchased the Rikon 10-3061 10" Deluxe Bandsaw, Includes Fence and Two Blade Speeds. It has not yet shipped. I am starting to doubt the purchase based on many complaints I've seen about the non standard 5/8" miter slot. How big of an issue is that (there are really no 5/8" miters out there that have any good reviews)? And what benchtop band saw would you recommend for at most $700 budget? Thank you in advance.

I'm going to get one of these on Black Friday from my local Woodcraft. I'm planning on using it for re-sawing, general rip cuts, and some minor coping. Do I need to go through all these steps every time I change a blade or is it pretty well set after the initial setup? Thanks for the info and I can't wait to get it! Never had a *good* bandsaw before and I'm already chomping at the bit to use it.
No you should need to but by doing it the first time it helps you under the saw better

I have this saw. when I tried to install a 1/4" blade, the tensioner nut ran out of threads and fell apart well before the indicator reached the 1/4" mark. Is there some sort of method for adjusting the indicator? Since I have this feature, it would be nice to use it without having to rely on "eyeballing" alone.
My Jet 14" SFX bandsaw was just delivered this week. BTW, this is my first bandsaw. As I am setting this up I am running into some issues - even though I am "trying" to follow the instruction manual. At this point I have two questions: 1. I have spent close to an hour trying to get the lower two screws of the upper dust port secured. To no avail I cannot get them to screw in. Is there a tip / trick on how to get them in? 2. I am installing a Timber-Wolf 3/4" blade as I need to initially do some resawing. It appears that the blade is getting hung up on the lower red guide. What do I need to do? I am a bit insecure as I don't want to take the machine out of any factory set calibration. Kindly look forward to your assistance. Thank you.

Alex i have a guestion for you . I recently purchased the jet bandsaw 15" 3 hp model and im in the process of installing a 3/ 4" blade but I'm having a problem of centering the gullet in the center of the wheel l can't get the blade to stay in the center I adjust the wheel to bring blade back to center it and it stops just short of center I run out of adjustment . Is it because blade is too wide ? I'm trying to follow your instructions on set up . any idea why it won't stay . Thanks Tony

I appreciate the video Alex. Especially since this Jet model is in my top 3 finalists for purchase candidates. I realize I am late to the show but if you get this comment maybe you wouldn't mind taking a couple questions. Can you explain any appreciable difference between running this saw on 110V vs 220V? And, as I believe 1 3/4hp is probably minimal need for re-saw, would you say the 1 3/4hp would run more efficiently on the 110 or 220?
Always run the motor at 220 if possible. You’ll have more torque and faster motor start up. It’s also a bit cheaper to operate
I just purchased this saw. I have a couple of questions on the set up. First, the lower thrust bearing rides on the side of the blade. Is this supposed to do that? Second, is there a trick to getting the smaller blades to ride center? My 1/4" will not. I'm assuming it's due to the tires not being perfectly flat?
Loosen The two side bolts and there should be enough play to move the entire bracket, there is a small Allen screw to move the back thrust bearing to line it up
Alex, I have that same Jet band saw. The top guide bearing when moved from the 13" down to the bottom for smaller wood cuts shifts so that the bearings are no longer where they are supposed to be. Does this mean that I need to have guide system replaced?
This saw does have some adjustments but I think you need a customer service expert, give them a call and please keep me in the loop. 800-274-6846
One thing I am curious about is how you never aligned the table with the blade. How do you know the blade is parallel with the fence?
I used a F.A.S.T. Fence alignment system tool to align the fence directly to the blade.
Alex. I’m looking for a second bandsaw. I have a 18 year old jet 18” saw that I want to leave set up for resawing and buy a 14” for everything else. I’m considering powermatic, jet, and rikon. I’d prefer cast iron wheels and a tension release. Do you have any suggestions?
Hello, I bought a used JET JWBS 14-SFX. I'm pretty happy with it soo far, but I bought new Cater tires for it and found out they are an 1/8" too narrow. Meaning the tire doesn't fill the wheel channel completely. Is there any advice you can give me regarding this? Should I take the Carter ones back?
Just make sure they are against one edge. Urethane spreads over time and wear.
@Alex, do you really have to take the whole table off to adjust the guides? From what I can see it looks like you should be able to make adjustments with the table still on. What do you do when you switch blades to one that is larger where you can’t put the gullets in the middle of the wheel? Do you have to remove the table or can you adjust the lower side bearings without? Thanks!
Absolutely not! Just easier to take it off the first time so you can see how everything works clearly

Have been researching band saws. After reviewing your excellent video, the Jet JWBS14-SF is the one I ordered. Will be using mine for wood resaw. What casters did you install on the stand? I would like to have mine mobile. I talked to Jet and they cautioned about being top heavy and maybe tipping over with the increased height with casters installed. Would appreciate your thoughts. Saw your old Powermatic 14 review with the cast iron frame, how does this compare?
Cast iron frame is the best combo saw in my opinion. Especially if you are going to only have one saw.
I've got the 2022 version of this saw - cams are now on top and bottom. No need to remove the table ;)

Love the saw, unfortunately it’s become a very expensive brick. Hoping you’ll do a video or maybe link to one that shows how to reset the upper wheel and get the tensioner to stay in the loose position. It all started when trying to change blades, and the blade would not stay on long enough to track. Re-watching your videos now. :-)
Alex, I just bought this saw on your recommendation. I notice that when I try to tension the blade, it gets damn near impossible to turn the tension knob tight enough to reach the 5/8" mark they provide for my 5/8" blade. I can almost get it to 1/2" and it feels, and sounds like I'm going to break the wheel and locking lever off when tightening the quick release lever. Any advice?
I’ve found that you do need to grease the cam on occasion. Remember the greenwood blade is a little thicker so it can take a bit more to tension it. Please email me if you have any other issues

Got a question for you Alex which is the best bandsaw in your opinion the (PWBS-14CS) Powermatic 14 inch bandsaw or the JET 14 inch deluxe pro bandsaw (JWBS-14DXPRO) they both seem to be great saws but I just wanna know an expert’s option. Thanks always a pleasure veiwing a masters knowledge
In my opinion the Powermatic is a great all around saw. It has the capability to resaw and do all the scroll work you would ever need. It has the Carter quick release, cast iron wheels, and standard blade size.
The Jet is a nice saw and come standard with a solid riser block but the quick release is a tougher operation and the aluminum wheels just don’t give the inertia that the cast iron does.
Depending on what you intend to do with the saw, either will work, I just feel the Powermatic does is with a bit more ease.
First, thank you so much for this incredible tutorial. I have a couple of questions for you:
1) should the deepest part of the gullet be in the center of the wheel top AND bottom? If so, I'm having trouble getting that alignment.
2) what's your advice for finding correct tension? I popped a 1/2" blade pretty immediately upon setting up my saw...
3) how clean of a cut should someone reasonably expect when re-sawing?
1. Top only, the bottom should always ride a little forward from the top.
2. Tapping on the blade with one finger, always on the left side just above the guard you shouldn’t get more than a 1/4” of movement.
3. A pass through a drum sander should be able to smooth it.

Alex, I have had this saw for one year now and love it! my only problem is with the fence play and the lock not staying tight. I have contacted Jet, and they sent me a spring steel replacement lock, but it didn't help, I have to use a C clamp on the far end of the fence to keep it from moving. is this typical, or is this possible a defect?

i just bought this saw and got it set up and its really a good saw,,,when i bring the fence up to the blade to align it with the blade there is about 3or 4 thousands off at the bottom,,and the instructions tell you to raise or lower the 4 screws on the top of where you lock it down,,any help would be appreciated
Loosen the screws on the rail and adjust them perhaps
alex thank you ever so much for responding,,,this saw is really a beast,,,being honest i bought it because of the jet warranty,,,and of course the price,,they gave me a blade when i bought it,,i got a 3/4 blade and it really does do a good job,,honestly i was looking at the grizzly bandsaws,,,but i dont think i could have gotten such a good deal with them,,and neadless to say the shipping charge plus the warranty,,
Hi Alex I just bought that saw just took it out the crate today would you have any clue why the top wheel when I raise the blade guard up high and turn the top wheel it rubs really bad on the guard would you have any idea why!!
Sounds like the guard may be just a little loose. If you just pull it forward it shouldn’t rub and then tighten it up so that it is aligned and doesn’t hit the wheel.

When you need to lift the bandsaw to put it on the mobile base where would you put the strap on the bandsaw?
Under the neck or throat of the saw is fine but I usually tilt the saw and have someone roll the base under it. I would definitely suggest help.

They do and it’s always worth a try.
Love my saw. but having a problem went to change my blade and used the quick release , now it doesn't want to work very loose also blade guage arrow came off of pin, any ideas, By the way Love your videos,
May have to lube the cam with a dry lube and perhaps the tension rod as well. If this doesn’t work let me know, I know some great people that can help.

I noticed you used a 3/8" blade for resawing. Is there any benefit to use a wider blade, say a 5/8" blade for resawing purposes?
That blade is a Greenwood blade made by Carter Products. Great combo blade, resaws up to 12” and turns A circle down to 2”. 5/8” blade is a great straight cutting blade but can’t turn
Alex, are you using the 115” blades? I looked on the Carter webpage and didn’t see any 116” blades which is what Jet recommends for the blade length.

OK alex, I think jet made this saw so you do not remove the table to adjust the lower rollers. Just take the covers off them. Looks pretty ez to get to.

I have this exact saw. You do have to remove table.
I install/replace blade by inserting blade down separation on table. You cant adjust rollers but i dont adjust rollers each time.
It had to grow on me. I would highly recommend this saw.
I bought this bandsaw about 18 months ago, I wish I'd watched this video sooner. Pretty I've ruined my 1/4" blade...oops!
My only complaint about mine is the 'far side' of the table, where it's split for the blade to pass through, is a literal smidge higher than the front - so everything catches as I push it through. I was very new to woodworking when I bought it, and didn't realize this is probably a defect in the table top. Probably too late now to get Jet to do anything about it. I wonder if I could sand it down with some low grit paper and then polish it back up through the grits?
I generally will add some duck tape to the bottom of the insert to raise it. I understand what your saying about it catching, aggravating!
@@bandsawlife2660 i mean the actual cast iron table is not completely flat. Material passing over to the right of th blade catches on the far side of the split :(
Is the table pin in place?
@@bandsawlife2660 yep, slides in fine. It’s like a 64th off, just enough to catch the edge of even my woodpeckers rules.

Great review, how do you think this stacks up to the Grizzly 0513x2? The weight difference is quite substantial 272-325 conflicting details online vs 418lbs and I'm wondering if that translates to less rigidity and flex during large resaws. I've found them to be within a couple hundred dollars of one another and I know the grizzly has 2hp, cast iron wheels and probably biggest thing for me is dual bearings. If the price were the same which one would you recommend? Thanks!
First it’s probably not fair to compare a 17” to a 14”, both are good products but if your budget minded the 14” is the choice, smaller footprint, less expensive blades, 110 or 220 with a 1 3/4 hp motor and the customer service from Jet has no comparison.
I watched other setup videos by Alex and he always emphasized where to place the blade on the wheels. He didn't do that in this video. Does anyone know whether this bandsaw is designed differently so that isn't important on this machine or is there another reason?
Blade placement should always be with the deepest part of the gullet in the center of the wheel. Sorry I missed that.

That will collect light dust but a dust collector is much better

Just look at the side of the bearings for the number or take it to the local auto parts state and they will fix you up.
The Harvey Ambassador beats this saw hands down. More power, more resaw capacity, etc. I'm pretty sure that Harvey builds this saw for Jet. Thanks for the review.
