The most under appreciated musical genius of his era. Miss these visceral lyrics and music.
Because he says it as it is, and kept out of the mainstream record companies and merchandise is his own a very wise man and his music has helped me out of a few low times in my life since the early 80s. And one of Matt's famous quotes: for every kick in the face and hurdle you pass.. the rewards get greater. So true.
@@lanky1066 Me to bro
Can’t argue…
I have been a fan since his solo career before The The
@@lanky1066 Given the world today (and quite frankly, the way it's always been, tbh) the lyric 'Here comes another winter of long shadows and high hopes, Here comes another winter waitin' for utopia, Waitin' for hell to freeze over..." is my mantra
How the fuck did he do that??? Matt's been away for like 15 years, and then comes back stronger than ever before. This is just stunning brother, absolutely stunning.
Really, really special. Probably because he took time away & stayed honest to himself. That's what keeps it so fresh. One of the few who just refused to keep churning out songs like a factory. Then we all get something this delicious!
artists don't just lose their talent overnight.
And he just did it AGAIN! The voice in our heads once again walking the earth.
Soul Mining will always be the album that had most effect on me during my "formative" teenage years. "How could anyone know me when I don't even know myself"
I was in my twenties when soul mining came out, but in my early 30 it ment more to me as I went through a bad split up... true soul mining... thank you Matt.
Dusk for me but I suspect I’m slightly younger than you , “ everybody knows , what’s going on with the world !, I don’t even know what’s going on with myself “
You ABSOLUTELY nailed it
i dont even know myself xxx
@@sarahhorrey7167 , amazing
Thank you, Matt. We've missed you.
Beautiful song! I believe Matt is one of the finest songwriters to have graced our world.
So here you live
Trapped inside the days
Your pen moving across the page
Back to where, It has begun
Uncoiled, unspun
What you were, what you will become
The days, setting with the sun
Wake up it's time to go
The taste of tears still in your throat
Silence from your songs
Reminds us, when you are gone
We can't hate the river for flowing
Can't blame the wild wind blowing
Can't slow time from running
We can't stop what's coming
The Bonfire is burning
The birds returning
An owl by night
A mourning crow
Indide a Shadow that grows
A darkness in the darkness
A stranger on the shore
Outside of your window
Knocking on your door
When there is rain that pours
'Til there is pain, no more
Wake up it's time to go
The taste of tears still in your throat
Silence from your songs
Reminds us, when you are gone
We can't hate the river for flowing
Can't blame the wild wind blowing
Can't slow time from running
We can't stop what's coming
Thank you ^^ 🙂
Thanks! Amazing lyrics. Just one thing, I think there's no question mark after 'Back to where' even if there's a pause after it. I believe that the line is 'Back to where it has begun' and it continues with 'uncoiled, unspun'.
@@galetinm thanks its right now
Matt Johnson, my word , I have loved listening to your words voice and music for 30 years . I play your songs all the time on guitar, I love playing them. I've always wanting to see your live performance before I died. After a terrible marriage break up I have one of my wishes come true . Thanks Matt see you at Brixton. Luv u bro
Just saw the film, and love this new song by The The---I wish he'd been able to make a whole new CD of original songs, but he said it took him 6 months just to write that particular song. So I'm just glad he was able to get this one out---It's beautiful and soulful, too.
It's the finest song I've heard in a long long time.
I agree. Exceptionally good song.
il nous manquait grave!!!
This IS music. As real as it gets.
Matt, this is brilliant. I'm sure you can shake off the inertia and release one more album.
@Paco Fernández OR 4 LOL
Brilliant. Mr. Johnson is one of the most prolific artists of modern times. The Gold Standard.
Gold Standard?! Are you serious?! Do you even know what prolific means? The Smiths were prolific during those 5-6 years they were active, The Beatles during their years. Fresh example is King Gizzard... releasing several albums a year. It means that he writes a lot of songs continually. Creatively fruitful. He's not prolific. He didn't release anything for 15 or so years before this single. He even talks at the start of this video how he isn't prolific. And you got 8 likes for that, too funny.
From the first notes you know it's The The
Great lyrics and to the bone honesty as always - Matt,- please get on the road again,- we need you out here in a world gone mad
Your wish has been granted.
You have been missed. This is beautiful.
I have been a big fan since the late 80s,i recommend putting headphones on ,and make your own video in your head,no band does emotional depth like the the ,and when you know the songs well ,they get into your soul.one of the best bands ever.if your new to the the you are infor a treat when you get the suff that they did that you missed. the worst thing about the the is that they make most other bands sound shit.
A young man from CA introduced me to this band and poetry... right when I needed to study for an art history final🙄 I still write songs and poetry.
Deep guy. Loved his voice since the late 80s. Makes me feel 19 again 🧡
I keep coming back, it is a beautiful experience.❤.
Where have you been Mr Johnson...I've begrudgingly missed you...you talented human being you!!!!!
It makes me so happy to hear new music from The The. Great song!
I have enjoyed your work for years and I cant think of a better way to honour your brother. Thank you for letting us experience this beautiful song and for sharing this heartfelt tribute to Andy.
One of the best artists out there, still doing their amazing talent. The The’s music has been amazing to embrace for over twenty years. Johnny Marr, too on guitars and writing..... absolutely amazing.
Long awaited return of the genius of MJ and The The
My life, your words, our memories. Love The The ❤
From Soul Mining to this - and all that's inbetween, unique, sheer quality!
Your songs have a way of getting more relevant. Even if we don't want them to.
We never could stop whats coming...it just takes a while to realise this.
Wow I just got the chills, please come to San Francisco, anyone lost can be refound there!
Song for 2020, stay safe everyone.
I love this. Great underrated singer songwriter
Just listened to it 5 times in a row... and counting
That voice! Matt, only you can deliver these lyrics. Magnificent.
Awesome Tune ! 3 years on . thx matt
There is just noone better than Matt Johnson/The The :)
The first time I heard this song i simply burst into tears, because it is everything I ever wanted to say, and I felt held. Absolute perfection.
Love it. Love The The. Probably my favourite British Artist of all time. Can’t wait for the upcoming Live DVD set. Hopefully a new album at some point too.
Matt sounds as good as ever - how is that possible? Wow 😮👍
The Voice of Rhyme & Reason ..x
You've been missed, Matt. Glad to hear you again.
Integrity of Mat Johnson, is without question.
There are not many of this kind of quality.
Perfect track ☆☆☆☆☆
Blimey. We've missed quality like this in recent years.
I have been a big fan from the 80's. Had a chance to see them in Birmingham a few years ago. One of the best night's ever. Thank you Matt, let there be more...
I've been listening to this every single morning for the last 3 years, after the escitalopram and the morning coffee and cigarette have settled in my guts. Best THE THE song ever.
Love this
Ave loved The The for over 30 years RIP Andrew
Don´t know why, You mark my soul long time ago ... Mind Bomb...
Our good friend is back.. I may be a little late to the renunion... but ım joining that group hug with Matt in the middle.........great song
The The my favorite band since 1989, bar none.
Got my funeral song sorted. Just love the the x
The definition of music at it's best.
Beautiful song. It’s feeling of helplessness against time reminds me of the lost feeling of love in Matt’s “Kingdom of Rain”.
Absolutely love Matt's voice. Missed it
So glad that my daughter and I went to see The Inertia Variations at East 8th Street concert weekend. A memorable evening for sure. Thanks Matt and Johanna.
How can you be off for so long and come back with something this awesome? Love this song!
Welcome back genius, its been too long, unmistakeable sound with a fresh feel.
You're a rare genius Matt. You move hearts and souls.
Played this at my younger brother's funeral on 29th December 2021... He was only 49...we both loved The The... Such a fitting tribute. X
What a beautiful piece, makes me wish it was part of an album!
I continue to grow up with this wonderful music😁
Overwhelmingly, achingly beautiful, thank you Matt and big love to Andrew. X
Saw The The in Nottingham ,May the 26th with my family . It worthed all this years of wait and the trip from Italy.I spent all my youth listening to The The 's music and collecting bulk of Lp ,cd and memorabilia.Matt you are Awesome.
Perfect. As always.
Glad you are back Mr Johnson, we have missed you... it has been far too long with no music from the The... love the tune- and a great dedication to your late brother, Andy Dog!
Matt looks his age. A pop life lived fully.
fallen in love with the the all over agaim! 30 years after the first time!
Welcome back, Matt. We need to hear from you
This is so beautiful. I have always cherished The The’s songs and albums!
Incredible lyrics as ever. other music seems to fade into insignificance as soon as I hear a THE THE track... JUST BEAUTIFUL... and a lovely video from collage artist Vicki Bennett ! remember seeing a wonderful art show by People Like Us in Newcastle - very moving. Andy Dog R.I.P. xx
Beautiful just found this after remembering one of your old songs. You were my fav band in the 80's and 90's used to listen to your songs over and over again. Thanks for coming back !
Matt - I loved your music when I was a public school boy. That was 30 odd years ago.
And you called out some interesting threads back the when I knew nothing.
So here we are in 2020 and the World is about to transition massively.
Soul Mining was just amazing.
Bless you Brother.
Beautifully edited. Kudos to Vicki Bennett.
welcome back, The The!!
this is so brilliant and emotional, so heartfelt. To add to your legacy which I am recently revisiting following reading your biography. I am older, but it is great to revisit your legacy with a greater data set, including my life experiences. The whole catalogue is brilliant. I feel that more now. The test of time has only increased the relevancy. And I thought I was a headbanger? This stuff is too good to dismiss
Beautifully poignant.
Especially when you know the background behind the song and this first performance ❤️
Welcome back MJ. 🙏🏻
The reunion that we were waiting for : Matt and Marr
My favourite solo musical artist of all time. Always has emotive music, phenomenal lyrics which make you think and indelible vocal performances which kicks your spirit in the spiritual equivalent of the butt.
Yep. The thing that I have always loved about The The is Matt's voice. It's wonderful that he's got that baritone still.
Love this!
Matt, you're a genius, I have loved your works of art from the very beginning. I wish you every happiness.
Welcome back and thanks for sharing such feelings with us, Matt.
You've have been missed, especially at this crazy time we are living in.
Greetings from Brazil.
Thank you for putting this on here. Beautiful song.
Matt "TheThe"" Johnson was never absent, his sublime songs echo through all decades from the 1980's.until here and now....
Best song I've heard in sometime.
I keep coming back to this almost every day..
Such a beautiful song. So catchy and melodic. It is slowly becoming one my favorite The The songs!
Matt's soul is clearly still burning blue.
Damn. I love his voice so much.
Thank you Matt
since I "found" this song, I heard it over and over again and all the other The the- Songs again...many of them acompanied my life since the 90th. When I`m listening to Matt Johnson I feel home, feel my own base. Thank you!
Great tune! Why isn't it available on iTunes for those of us in North America? Please tour again, America needs you more than ever...
I used to listen to the the with my pops when I was young didn't understand it but now 20 years later I listen to every song love these guys now I understand the music Rip pops!
A prophet of the human condition. You stripped back the layers of this worlds cataract.
Love all of the video clips from past works, amazing! Been a die hard fan since 1986, hope to see you in the US again sometime.
Finally!! LOVE IT!!
It's a simple, latter day response to "This Is The Day". The tune that got me aligned with The The and all the thoughtful, political, romantic, beautiful, yet, well delivered angst. Matt is on my list of people I would love to go have a beer (or seven) with and talk everything to sense!
It is unbelievable. Welcome back, Matt! Waiting for further songs. Keep on rockin’!
I cannot believe how incredibly strong his voice still is.
Thank you for this wonderful song, Matt. Love from Mexico.
Marco Catano Mexico x2, y si, la canción esta a la altura de la calidad de Matt.
Mexico X3. Matt es una reata.
Love love love this song. Plus every single album! Brilliant songwriting. Glad I got to see you play at the Ford theatre.. a show I'll never forget.
How i praise these 1986er days, that I her your music. GIANT and this is the day is still my holy shit.
