One of the first things I did with my new windows laptop, I uninstalled all the bloat wear like one drive, 365, Skype, teams, just anything I had no intention of ever using. Then I downloaded a new internet browser, installed it and found out how to completely remove edge. I disabled Cortana, I won’t use it. Now with Microsoft forces copilot onto everyone, I found out how to completely remove that as well. I would get rid of the Microsoft store but it’s the only way to actually get programs on your computer now days. I wish companies like Microsoft would stop installing things we don’t ask for. I wish the US would follow the EU and force Microsoft to allow us to uninstall the things we don’t want. No one wants Edge, not many people use teams or Skype, and not very many want to use AI like Cortana or copilot. Just allow us to customize our windows experience.

Only problem with a local account are the endless prompts and suggestions that state you should use a Microsoft account. Of course, you cannot shut these off; just like Windows and Office prompts about features that most could care less about. Then there are "your system is in an unsafe state" or "your system could run more efficiently" messages one many pages that need to be read and ignored. None of this is a big issue, but .... If security is that much of an issue, ditch windows. Some sacrifices come with that choice. Still, it would be mostly safer and more secure. Next video, Chrome login :)

I do clean installs when I upgrade from the Home to Pro version (using the free upgrade option). First step is to use NTLite (the free version suffices for my needs) to customize the Windows ISO image I download from Microsoft's site. Besides removing Windows components and apps I don't want, it gives me the option to automatically have the same account as the computer I'm using to run NTLite. That of course will be a local account, and I always use a generic name. So when I do the installation, I don't even get prompted with any of the account screens.

The only way to force a climb down from this strategy is don't give them data to sell . However this is easier said than done especially if you run the home editions which i would guess a large majority do. Running pro and above does give other options but you need your tech head on to implement them

So hoping the amount of background stalking MS is doing is quashed to its absolute minimum and is as effective for 11..
I did manage that OOBE bypass trick for my secondary 11 computer though it *only* has a local account so it may be pretty much invisible as it's only on the local network maybe 2 or 3 times a month now for update checks.

When you create that local account and you have to enter the credentials of your MS account, MS now knows that local account is the same person as the MS account, so I’m sure they are linked. Therefore the local account is no more private than the MS account. You probably don’t know the info is being sent to MS. If an average person like me thought of that, I’m sure MS thought of it long time ago.

If Microsoft uses data to "improve" the user experience then why does each version of Windows seem worse than the previous one? They seem to work towards making even the simplest actions more difficult.

you used to be able to create a Windows user account that didn't have a Microsoft account attached to it, but nowadays it's no longer possible because after a short period of time Microsoft requires you to attach a Microsoft account to your Windows user account.

I just build a new computer and made that fatal mistake. My fresh install instantly was trashed. It setup desktop and icons and alot of files. The problem was I didn't realize one drive had collected this information tho I had turn it off many times.
