Any old phone (even if the service is turned off) can still dial 911. If you're taking a trip, have an old phone charged and keep it in the glove box or in your luggage in case you need to make the important call

Hubby needed a new alarm clock. I said "Use your phone." He said "No, the texts and calls wake me up." I said "No, use that old phone that doesn't have a phone connection any more." After watching Liron video on OLD USB and this one, I have loaded about 60 GB of music on Old USB stick, stuck that into the back of my WiFi server, then I took old iPhone, connected to WiFi and then connected old phone jack to my kitchen dining room stereo and stream music from the OLD USB stick.
You can also stream video or music from the internet (ie Netflix, PlutoTV, CZcams, WiFi or OLD USB stick) through the old phone and use an HDMI/Power adapter attached to the old phone lightening port to a television/monitor via the HDMI port. Works fantastic!

Alot of phones can be used as a Wifi Access point. Just connect a power transmitting USB Hub (I have a very simple USB-C hub that has power delivery), USB to Ethernet adapter and Ethernet from your stationary router. . Also many old phones are FM Radios. All you need is Power and any cable you plug into the headphone jack. Only needed as antenna....you can still switch to internal speakers.

I can imagine using most of these at once. Lounging on the couch for some down time, use one phone as keyboard/ mouse and another for remote monitor while another one is in dash-cam or security mode outside.
You can see who's knocking at your door, send a command to start recording and save to desktop, maybe upload to the cloud or go live if it's "badguys" so they can't just destroy the evidence of their crime by stealing your phones and computer. LOL
    The possibilities are endless.
I just need to find one of the dash-cam apps that supports looping recording so it doesn't stall out when the memory is full. It'll just start overwriting old vid.
    Great video here, sir.

Also, I refuse to pay streaming services to play music I already own; so I took one of my old phones and made it my MP3 player/media device! Cleared out all unneeded apps, put in the maximum 256 gb memory card and have my entire music library installed! (I use Media Monkey allowing me to create and sync playlists and other features between devices). I also use Audible for books and Google podcast; both apps allow you to download what you want to listen to eliminating streaming errors during no signal travels and situations! Even CZcams and Netflix to name a few will allow download of some videos (not for watching while driving of course!)

Usually it's a battery that's the problem which makes the old phone pretty much impractical to use for something else.
Also Unified Remote ftw for remote mouse.

I was using Alfred in my entire house for security cameras with old phones since about the time all the smart cameras were still kinda expensive for the average person & it worked flawlessly and I could even check the camera feeds from my TV in my bedroom by using the 🔥 TV app to take it from my phone and push it to my Nvidia shield because the TV play store didn't offer it I really liked that system before Blink & Wyze cams and for free
My current phone can be used as a mouse without that software.
    Great video

I have a couple old phones stationed around the house or in the garage to use as dedicated media players and Pandora.
I like this better because I can leave the music playing and take my phone over where I'm going to be and also send texts or take phone calls without disturbing the music.

Be careful using as security cameras. Phone batteries are not ment to be plugged in indefinitely. I've had 3 batteries expanded over the years. Used this way. Used the Alfred app. Loved it. The app has nothing to do with the batteries expanding.
