- You Can Still Bypass Microsoft Account on Windows 11 23H2 and Windows 11 24H2, but for how long, who knows. Microsoft are clamping down hard or Microsoft account bypass methods and are basically forcing you to use a Microsoft Account during the installation process.

The thing about using the Domain account method is that it never prompts you to log into a domain. It basically just lets you create a local account, and you're done.
I was curious about this so I just set up a Win11 VM in VirtualBox and tried setting up as work/school (domain) and it seemed trivially easy. I can't see a down side, unless it doesn't work with Win11 Home. I set the VM up as Win11 Pro. I didn't document what I did, but I think I just clicked past the email prompt and it asked "Who will be using this machine?" which set up a local administrator account.
@@dingokidneys : "unless it doesn't work with Win11 Home" its not an option for Home. Pro & Enterprise version are needed for a Domain account setup.
@@cam_934 I just had a go to see if there was any way to use the domain option with Win11 Home and - yeah, you're right - it really didn't seem to work. I didn't try breaking out the command prompt because that's kinda what we were trying to avoid.
To me, this means that the Home version is becoming completely unusable.
@@dingokidneys Well, their folder icons suck. In Windows 7 and 10 the folders were vertical so you could see better what is inside. I have 5,000+ photos and with these new folders, it takes me at least 3 times longer to find the photo I want. I only see 1 photo, whereas before it was 2 or more. That was a lot easier than trying to remember the dates. These so-called upgrades from my point of view are "downgrades". They could have kept the Windows 7 "look" while beefing up security. They had a good an easy to navigate operating system and it's been gradually "downgraded" ever since in my opinion.
If you don't have a domain that is. If you have a home network with a domain you will be able to join the domain.
If people still cant understand/realise how much MS hates the fact that you want to own and control your hardware and software they never will...like other companies MS wants total control over what you do and how you do it on and offline, and they want to know every single thing that you do, every site you visit etc etc so if theyve overlooked anything they can then clamp down on it..this video is another perfect example of it !...just think, if they hadnt put in place so many restrictive practices on hardware, the uptake of 11 would be far far higher
It’s about time American and/or European commissions start looking into these practices, and ban them.
Your officially buy a product of them, and then they push you into a corner, so that they can force you to accept a heap of shit you never asked for.
This starts smelling very fishy and is looking more and more like blackmailing. This is what gets me very angry. If it would be possible, I would never ever use any of their products again. Unfortunately, I professionally am bound to a bunch of tools that only run on windows, so there‘s no real alternative.
I don’t want their shit, I just „want“ their OS, and but only because other companies force me to use that. That being already bad enough, there’s no need to add injury to insult.
I get that every time I open my email, a prompt to buy Microsoft 365. I click on the trash can icon, I even listed them as phishing and I still get the prompt. As for blackmail, I was happy with my HP Z440 PC on Windows 10 Pro but was getting a security error code all the time. I'm keeping that as it should work on Linux, a fine PC never any trouble. Less noise than the Dell XPS 8960 I bought.
Yes,. there needs to be laws and official OS.
I am thinkin Quantum OS, cant fk with that thing.
The problem you have is that your purchase of Microsoft products is not ownership, you are purchasing to use Windows on your computer, it will never be yours, much like office 365 and other Microsoft products, so legally the eu can do nothing as it is stated in Microsoft eula,
Agreed. Think about it. You buy a PC but have no internet access during setup. You can't use the pc and just bought a glorified paper weight. Absolute BS. There is no reason for this nonsense. Maybe it will stop when microsoft executives have to login into an account just to go a toilet or even eat and drink or even breathe.
Thanks, Brian, You have the best computer help videos on CZcams, I see others and when I am in doubt, I fact check that information on your video search, if it's not there it never happened.
Glad to help!
Bypassnro DOES work. What they did is make an additional check to see if you have internet connectivity and if it detects internet it ignores the bypass you enabled. So all you need to do is after doing bypassnro, unplug the internet or as soon as the OOBE comes back up release the IP before you continue and then the bypassnro will work. Lets remember.... bypassnro is a batch file included by MS on the official MS media. If they wanted to stop people using it, they would remove it. Also they did not add registry entries to prevent bypassnro working. Those entries are standard and part of the OOBE. I just did the leg work to figure out how to manually get up and running in case MS ever do remove their bypassnro that they chose to put in. That bypassnro was not already put in, that gets put in by the bypassnro.cmd file you ran... Type the following at that point type oobe\bypassnro.cmd and you will see the contents of the file. It adds that registry entry and reboots the system...
What does oobe mean?

Thanks, Brian, for that video.
Was a great watch and we know what works and what does not.
Take care.
Thanks
For Win 11 Home this worked for me. Just did this yesterday. When you get to the screen where you have to select a region kill your interent connection and proceed through the prompts from there. You will also see an option to select "I don't have an internet connection". Click on that as well.
Thanks for the video Brian, much appreciated
My pleasure!!

Excellent tip like always. Thank you Brian!
You are very welcome
This is Why Windows XP/Vista/7 will always be the best no forced Microsoft account I'm stopping at Windows 10 because I dual booted it with Linux Mint Cinnamon get a micro or full tower case and stop relying on office computers that can't support multiple drives.
Thanks for the detailed understanding of the problem and the thorough explanation.
Considering you're basically dropping the network connection so you can create a local account, wouldn't it also work just to disconnect the computer during installation?
Yes it will only work if you run the bypass.nro after first boot and computer is physically disconncted from internet.
What if you create a new Microsoft account and use that account to get pass the setup, and once all the setup is done, then go back to Microsoft and delete the account you created. I don't know, its just a theory.
the thing is, it is still linked to your install and it is set in a lot of places last I checked so even if you switch to a local account the microsoft account is still in a lot of registry entries and therefore still linked to you somewhat
Thank you Brian
Ms must be watching yours and everyone elses videos to see what you's are doing so they can plan there next approach of attack
Cheers have a great day
Bruce Buffer with the tale of the tape. It's a double header of bruising UFC, American Neo Capitalism against The Planet and Microsoft against The Customer. Both of them are no holds barred heavyweight bouts. Let's get ready to fight over registry keys...
I have two other ways to bypass, but I keep them a secret, otherwise they will block them.😃
Although im not planing installing w11 is always interesting to see these kind of videos just to learn something new! You rule my friend!
Thanks for giving us what we need❤❤❤
You're welcome
Hey Brian, two little questions:
1. What is the domain method and why would people not wish to use it, and
2. Can you use the same Microsoft account on multiple systems; pros and cons.
Thanks man. This really helped
Great stuff bro thanks
I made my .ISO when Windows 11 became available so the OOBE method should still work for me as long as my LAN/WLAN aren’t connected.
It ist also working in 23H2 i mean I Just did it as I created my own WIM to get a Custom ISO in Terms of Programs REGs etc. Otherwise Just use Rufus to create a Boot Stick there you can Check the Option to create a User Account which also bypasses oobe anyway.
Thank you mate, it did work.
Cool thanks. But a nice tip for you for the registry. Type three letters than you can navigate faster through the registry editor. sof + right arrow + mic + right arrow + wind + right arrow + curr an so on. An go up again only hit left arrow again again again - it closed each folder by hit the arrow key.
When there's no network interface it allows you creating a local account.
You can also disable NIC on bios prior to beginning installation.
It always works for me.
Wouldn't it be nice to be able to go back to installing off a CD with none of these hurdles to jump.
Very nice video! 😉This method is actually how Rufus bypasses the forced MS Account Creation, hopefully Microsoft doesn't patch it.
THANK YOU SO MUCH 👍
what part of england are you from? love your videos very educational! studying for my A+ comptia
How does the ipconfig /release work if it is not connected to a network, surely the oobe\bypassnro should still work in that case, or am I missing something here?
Great video, what would be the way forward for custom builders in the future
Thanks
Surely the easier way is to simply leave the pc unconnected until after the installation. I have done it, works fine
Thanks for the video Brian. Do you know if the Rufus metod still is working to make a local account?
I will check this weekend
@@Britec09 Thanks Brian 🙂
When we still pay for the windows 11 license there should be no need to monetise us by forcing us onto a spyware account....
Imagine paying for a operating system.
It should be illegal to SELL you an operating system that collects your data for resale. Make it free and I'll think about it, but don't charge me to make you money..
You are not sure why they do this?
They want to make it a cloud based OS. That's why.
A cloud based, subscription OS.. Yeah, they can shove that where the sun doesn't shine..🙄
With all these shenanigans from MS, it's no wonder Linux user rates have climbed in the last 18 months. It will be interesting to see what the stats look like for Win 10/11 and Linux once it hits October 2025.
ATM I'm mostly using Linux as even Win10 lately has been introducing bugs with basic operations and culling productively. I'm only logging into Windows sporadically for emails at present.
Linux user rates have BEEN climbing for easily the past 5 years let alone 18 to 20 months...especially as Mint has picked up in popularity as the most solid ..gentle transitional Windows replacement and has been aging like fine wine..just without the sugars/carbs
@@motoryzen The stats seem to say something different. Linux has always been around 3% until the last 18 months where theres been a noticeable increase. Although it's spiked a lot more from Dec 2023 (I'm sure with people defecting from Windows).
Mints a good OS for the newcomer. As much as I think the team does a great job, it still has some issues with certain tasks and behaviours.
@peterschmidt9942 yes by paid off sites that don't report accurately
.
Lenox adoption throughout the past 7 years as easily climbed from somewhere between 3 and 4 all the way to over 8% total
Almost 7 minutes to get the actual method, thanks, but i was in a hurry 😅 so I didn't like to spend time learning about methods that don't work anymore.
Brian, i got my new Acer laptop today. But I can bypass the Microsoft sign in page. I try login in CMD then in cmd I can not type anything Brian. Please help me
can you just use an older windows version during install?
This video aged like a fine Milk in less than 24 hours.
Really fantastic.
In the latest update of windows, they are trying to force you to log into a Microsoft account after rebooting. None of the tricks you can do during setup work in this case. I have found 1 method, but I'm not sure how reliable it is. When this came up on a friends computer, I used CTRL+ALT+DEL and then chose sign out. When I signed in again, the prompt was gone. Hope this helps.

Hello, I am a blind computer expert of United States. I installed Windows 10 Pro on a virtual machine. I use Microsoft screen reader to get the installation process, and bypass Microsoft account.
I never connected the windows setup ever to the internet. Those bypass regedit are present and still works
what is the difference between your method, and not having the network lead plugged in?
On mine it did not give you the option to set up for work or school
Haven't watched the video yet Bryan, but I just used Rufus to make bootable USB installer that still creates a local account on installation.
That's my prefered method too.
That's the way. Use Rufus to not only disable account loging but also other very useful things. It's an essential program for me.
Can this method be used for booting a vm from it for creating a a customized iso?
@@derekswitzer9624 You could try passing the USB thumb drive through to the VM. I just managed to boot from a thumb drive in VirtualBox by passing it to the VM then breaking into the EFI firmware on boot up to select the thumb drive as boot device. Don't know if this would work with MBR BIOS but I know that both VirtualBox and KVM allow you to set up a VM with EFI. With VMWare or HyperV your mileage may vary.
I'm not sure weather this is regional but I installed Win 11 just yesterday and the bypassnro method still works fine.
So far I have just resorted to disconnect the network cable from the computer until it's fully installed, but this has been on the Enterprise variant of Windows.
I just installed Windows 11 (23H2) on two HP laptops and was NOT asked to create a Microsoft account (maybe this is just available in Australia?). The problem for Microsoft is that their users have lost confidence in them. Windows 11 installs are now actually declining. If you are using MS in a business environment (small or large) the last thing you need is another thing to worry about i.e., privacy. Having been a windows user for 30 years, even I'm planning migrating to Linux - it the "rusted-ons" are leaving - MS have a problem.
Why would anyone want to install Windows 11 now that it screen grabs everything you do and sends it to M$….?
Can you release the ip before you get to the screen that asks for a user name/account? Or does Windows "renew" your connections between those screens?
The best way to use this method is actually to not be connected to the internet at all and add the registry entry at the very first setup screen (where you choose the region) - That way, when you get to the prompt to connect to the internet, you'll have an option called "I don't have internet" & then "continue with limited setup." Then you can create a local account instantly. - so yes, you can just release the IP at the first setup screen.
The oobe\bypassnro will work just fine. You have to be disconnected from the internet to make it work. It goes like this , turn on the computer go through the region and keyboard region and the alt keyboard then use function shift f10 or shift f10 and type in oobe\bypassnro and hit enter. the computer will restart and go back through the region and keyboard region and then click on the i dont have internet and continue with limited setup and you have bypassed the window 11 login. Make sure you are NOT connect to the internet.
This worked for me today
Doesn’t work today
Dear Brian,
For your information: you sound like release command would work even without bypassnro command. This is not necessarily the case. You still have to use bypassnro command, but after this you have to use the ipconfig's release command later on, as soon as you are at login of MS account again.
Plz set VMware and make the 1st snapshot while you are at the login to MS account (while you didn't make anything yet). The 2nd snapshot is when you are at MS account, (while done the bypassnro). Now you need just revert to the 1st one, and do the release command, it won't work further. Revert to the 2nd snapshot, and since bypassnro is already done you need to do the release command. That's it.
The method does work for 23H2/24H2.
I just bought a refurbished laptop that was reset to factory and while trying to add my office 365 it locked me because it is still locked with the previous company's office 365 account. It asks to login with the previous company's credential. How do I solve it? Thanks for the help!
Microsoft account is documented as required for automatic device encryption - which is why they are keen to make having a Microsoft account mandatory.
So with a Microsoft account you will ransomware your computer.
Nice one
Thanks for watching
how do you add those keys, mines are blank and just showing the default file or key in the OOBE folder?
Can you still just set it up with a microsoft account, then create a local administrator account, then login to that and delete the microsoft account?
Yes you can, did it yesterday on a new mini PC. Created a local admin and standard user then removed the ms account
Why not Zero out the BypassNRO key? 1 = turns off bypass, therefore 0 = bypass
6:26 Does unplugging the internet cable have the same effect, or am I mistaken?
Two days ago I woke up to windows 11 welcome screen. They forced the download and started loading it against my will. I did find, on second page i went to, a tiny link stating I want to stay on win11... or words to that effect. Now my pc will not boot to windows at all. PC rebooted and wouldn't go past "bios" They seriously broke my pc.
Are Microsoft trying to push people away from Windows? IMO there doing a very good job of getting people to ditch Windows
I Just installed win11 23h2 with oobe\bypassnro after restart Just Killing the Connection with ipconfig /Release and this does in fact Work. I dont know why you capping there xD
I'm still on Windows 11 22H2 on a local account, will I have to go through that Microsoft nonsense or "bollocks" once support for 22H2 ends? Is there something I can do now in gpedit or the registry to block that "bollocks" from happening?
I'm on Windows 11 Pro 22H2 and with gpedit I went to Administrative Templates, Windows Components then scrolled downwards to OOBE. There are two choices; When logging into a new user account fo the first time or after an upgrade in some scenarios, that user may be presented with a screen or series of screens that prompts the user to choose privacy settings for their account. Enable this policy to prevent this experience from launching.
If this policy is enabled, the privacy experience will not launch for newly-created user accounts or for accounts that would have been prompted to choose their privacy settings after an upgrade.
If this policy is disabled or not configured, then the privacy experience may launch for newly-created user accounts or for accounts that should be prompted to choose their privacy settings after an upgrade.
I set it to disable for now and I'm wondering if this setting will still be in effect when support ends for 22H2 and I have to go to 22H3?
I don't get why they care if I use a local account. Except for mining your data. What I'm more worried about is the whole Bit Locker thing.
Open admin cmd, and run this command:
manage-bde -Off C:
Harry Potter: be afraid. Be very afraid.
Look at it this way, there are many benefits for most people that are not Tech savvy and are to lazy to make their own backup, to be signed into an MS Account.
@@STONE69_ It has little-to-no backup functionality unless they are paying for microsoft 365.
I just purchased a hp computer. if i hit the shift fn f10 keys nothing happens so that I can enter those codes
Brian kindly tell us how to Activate Windows when : 1. One has Activation Product Key from previous windows install 2. One doesn't have product key 3. Without getting activation key from your sponsor etc. Thankful and cheers...🎉
The OOBE method must've been blocked very recently then, because i was able to use it while doing a fresh install of W11 on monday this week. I guess i have to put network drivers on my bootmedia now.
it didnt work for me. when I go back after releasing IP i end up on a screen that says whoops you have disconnected from from the internet and I end back at the network connection screen.
This method does not work I tested it just now, it just says you lost connection and stuck in a loop or restore connection
Edit: I used bypassnro and disconnect ethernet and it worked
It would be easier to unplug the ethernet cable prior to installing. No ip adress to worry about. And if for some unfortunate reason you're on wifi (less secure, slower, less reliable, not the best way) then turn that off. either in bios, or if not possible just don't sign in.
Thanks - worked for me (just about!) though the said 'back arrow' at the top of the screen has apparently been removed (June 28 2024) for 23H2, as well. However, I was still able to insert a name for the PC User and make a Local Account - though I don't actually know WHY it worked. 😎
Even on Windows 10 LTSC, Microsoft will nag you about setting up a Microsoft account when you are joined to a local domain. Goes away if your company uses what used to be called Azure and other cloud services. I haven't seen this on 23h2 win 11 education yet, but it probably takes a month before they start nagging. MS killed a lot of good included tools, things like WDS and MDT no longer work with 11, I had to set up a FOG server to image my systems at work. It's good, but would have been nice to use the tools that I've been using for 15 years.
My laptop is jus stuck on the network screen I can’t go back to the “personal account” option
It is real simple wy MS is blocking to bypass a MS account: this is because the are going to force bitlocker disk encryption during setup. The only place where you can save your bitlocker key is in your MS account, you cannot store it on your device because you cannot access it during setup, and you also cannot print the key because you cannot setup a printer during Windows setup.
or in the case of a domain account (which is a valid option for W11 install) bitlocker recovery keys are stored in the domain's active directory.
@@yogibarista2818 That's true, Thanks
Ehhh, you say you don't understand why they try and force you to use a MS account? Well that's simple, this makes it even easier for them to track whatever you do on "your" computer. Remember some countries have quite strict laws against tracking, even the EU have made some moves, but the moment you log-in to a service they can track whatever they want as you then accept whatever terms of service is included. They can then use that data to show you adds (that's basically how Google and Facebook have been printing money for years) or they can use all the information they can grab to help train their AI-systems...
I think they want to eventually make it so that when they decide your OS has reached end of life they can block you from using or installing it from their end, leaving you with an unusable brick unless you wipe the drive and install something else. You'll probably get a message like "The operating system you are trying to access is no longer supported. Please upgrade now."
@@erikferguson71 Windows Insider builds sometimes do that already.
@@teknixstuff I don't doubt that at all. Microsoft was right about one thing.. Windows 10 is the last version of Windows.. the last one I will ever use. LOL. I did have Windows 11 on one machine, but it's a Linux PC now.
Bypass does work! Just tried it. You need to put in the bypass command and remove all wifi anntenas, ethernet and usb wifi adapters once done it will ask you to connect a network but at the bottom "I don't have internet is enabled!". Again This is the lastest updated windows
What's the bypass command? I don't have the bypassnro file in my OOBE folder
@@mrmeeks222 weird. Just google it. Shift +10 I think brings up the command line to enter it
It doesn't even need to be that involved. Just start the install without being connected to any network and the opportunity to set up a local account will automatically be allowed. No special effort required.
Automatically? close but not precisely. You'll have to select the clickable option that is smaller font and a duller color of " I don't have internet, use local account instead".
That is IF..Microcrap doesn't alter things ( such as darth vader altering deals he has made with the good guys in Star Wars episode 5 Empire Strikes Back ) further one day involving allowing that option even if no internet connection is detected.
@@motoryzen "Automatically?" - Yes automatically you will be presented with the option, which does NOT happen if you are connected to a network/Internet.

@@Britec09 Just noticed a W11 install from a year ago is now giving me a "MS Account Problem" warning and is telling me to sign in when I boot it since the last update
wonder how long it will be until all doors are closed and the only way will be to create an account. Apart from being really annoying is there really a problem with having a microsoft account?
I suspect that with Win Home, it won't be too long but if you have Win Pro or Enterprise, the domain option has to work so I'd aim to go with that.
Looks like in 24H2 they removed the back arrow when you use ipconfig /release you can't go back. But it was an early release.
... You were aware of them removing the back arrow upon using that ip release command, but didn't bother saying what to do when that happens?!
I just setup a laptop with a local account by selecting create account and surprisingly it did not, it just continued with a local account setup.
This method is fine if you have a current Windows 11 USB already created - because you don't connect to the network until AFTER the bypass is done, this method cannot be stopped. Future downloaded versions of the installer may cut out the bypass, but thats future media. So get it now peoples!
Never thought of that tbh. Luckily, I have both Win10 and a pretty early copy of Win11 on my Ventoy drive.
Get an ISO of older Win 11 install from the Microsoft site while still possible. That way you can install older version which can still bypass Microsoft Account requirement and also not activate BitLocker by default, then update to latest version. Windows is getting worse and worse with each iteration.

"Domain join" is not available on my new Surface 7th Gen laptop.
is rufus still an option.👍
Only way I could make it worth without nuking the registry key is to do the domain method... best part is, I don't even use Windows. I just wanted Windows in a VM and use RDP to try something. It's annoying to set up RPD with an MS account, easier with a local account, except MS really wants to throw you through hoops to do so.
MSMG is gonna get really popular really soon...
Either way, if we're forced to sign in, ill just convert to local straight after.
Give Microsoft the right boots and they would be marching in to Poland. thanks bud but i think its time to move on to something other than windows for me.
The problem is not having/not having an account, but connecting my account on a new pc i still don't know nothing about (i know that spyware/keylogger on new pc/laptop is like 1% but still...)
Microshart doing its best to make people switch to Linux.
What if upgrade from W10
Leave it to Microsoft, Google and all the others and they will figure out a way to force you into providing a cryptic password, sending you a verificattion code and verifying if you are human or not just to go to your own bathroom.
And it is only a matter of time before they will block it again. And then they will find a way to make it where you can't bypass it anymore.
Shift F10 works but then the keyboard keys don't work
