Wow, this is a method I should have seen but didn't. Nice work, Brian! Also, it's funny how before all this Microsoft account enforcing became a thing, I was genuinely convinced I was one of the few people that still used local accounts.
Trying more & more to have Users using an MS Acc't so fewer will be going Local which is NOT smart, at all.
Most definitely subscribed, this was one of the most useful videos I have seen on CZcams in a while. Thanks so much for this. Way easier than having to go through the whole regular process. 🔥
Gonna save this video for sure. Appreciate it, Britec!
You're welcome
Should not be thanking anyone for this.
Very good. For now, I continue to avoid 11 like the plague, but this might come in handy eventually.
Be hard for them to block this
@@Britec09 That is good to hear.
@@Britec09 At some point they will just block the access to Command prompt. I think i will switch to Windows 11 LTSC as soon as it's avaliable.

Brian can you still use the Group Policy Editor doing it this way if you have a Pro Key? Just curious before I reinstall the opp system!!
As always, thank you for your videos you put up.

This Method works great but causes a couple bugs.
I have done this 7 times and on all of them the device can no longer use the shortcut ctrl + alt + del, and the defaultuser01 is left behind.
Any suggestions in fixing these?
Worked. Thanks a lot! Dropped a like.
Hello, when it worked for you did “Britec” appears as the local account administrator even though you used a different User name? I am trying to figure out if I made a mistake.
@@yelemartin8910 after it restarts, there is 2 user comes on my screen. “Default” and the one that I created. I choose the user that I created since it has administrator privilages.
And for next restarts, this user choose screen doesn’t show up anymore. It only appears one time and that is after I do this trick .
@@mtshn20 thank you so much. I now see there are 2 different users and I have logged into mine. Thank you.

@@Drew1903SGy not?
It'd be helpful if you included the details of the steps in the description
Have you tried to install the system with no internet connection? Does it give you an option somewhere to skip the Microsoft account?
I might try using this method, but, do I have to select my region during setup?
The next step MS is probably gonna take is to block the hole command screen end shift+f10 to force you to go trough the setup forcing a MS account and advertising turned on without any option to bypass anything.
And also there is a possibility that the are gonna block a Windows install from even starting the setup if the iso has been modified by Rufus or any other tool.
I'm not saying that it will happen, this might happen based on the way MS is blocking a lot of bypasses.
Yes I wouldn't put it past them. Micro$oft is rapidly alienating it user base and customers.
Holy smokes I knew they were bad when I went to Linux 5 years ago but I never thought they'd get this bad.
If yes, it would be a tragedy. The European Commission may need to notify Microsoft for enforcement action.
If Users try to not use a MS Acc't, Microsoft has no choice. We had to make using seat belts a requirement for SOME people, too.
@@Drew1903SG I've been a developer for 30 years. How about giving us the choice!?!?!! This is not a life or death issue so stop comparing this to wearing seatbelts. We don't all need to have our hands held NOR should we be forced. If I didn't have to use a particular program which can only be used on Windows, I'd kick Bill and Windows to the curb and be 100% Linux. Fuck Microsoft's dictatorship and it's disrespect for autonomy and privacy.
THANK YOU
Thanks, I'd love to see all the methos in one video. Thanks
Coming soon!
@@Britec09 thanks, I know thease are long videos to make, but it's worth it
Amazing ❤
yes all the steps on all the video's would be so much useful in one big video that would help a lot.
Noted!
I'm guessing you'd want to add the regedit dword value to disable bitlocker at this same point but BEFORE adding the local user account as it causes a restart. correct? 🤔
Thanks
Nice video Brian but mate I was caught before anything like this hack was apparent to me and I am now stuck with their account which is very annoying as I get lot of tedious messages to sign into that MS account.
I got the command prompt open but cannot type anything into it, seems the keyboard is not active at this point of the installation. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Thanks for the donation 🍺
@@Britec09 Hi I was able to set this up with a user name I created but Britec appears as the local account administrator . Can you advise on how to correct this? Thank you.
Yes if you don't mind would you show all of them together so we can know which one will work and won't work thanks

@@Drew1903SG yes it does. Without this video there was no chance I would’ve actually made a local account.
Nans computer wanted me to sign into a Microsoft account, I just wanted it so go straight to the Home Screen
@@Xav. Then you would have been better off without this video as one should be using an MS Acc't, not Local. We use Locals to set up machines for clients then switch to MS Acc'ts once delivered which is the proper approach.
i use rufus to make a usb that i can make that will skip the microsoft account can you redue that video it will help alot of people
How about bypassing windows 11 home s mode they disabled the shift f10 in there?
😃 yay!
Thanks for this. have to wonder, though, how long it will take MS to close this loophole too.
Hopefully, by yesterday.
@@Drew1903SGwhy are u so against not using a microsoft account
@@benhanrahan Because from 25 years of being an IT Pro, I know going without is wrong and not smart, at all. It is only shooting oneself in the foot. Much is lost of denied in terms of functionality, what is available & security concerns. Local = limited. It is a really silly way to go. We only use Local to set up machines for clients and switch to MS Acc'ts upon delivery.
Say, when you run command prompt, can you run Computer Management with compmgmt.msc command and create a local account there through Local Users and Groups? 🙂
That is still possible in the Pro editions. Home editions still have to enter it through the command prompt.
IT FINALLY WORKED
Hello, when it worked for you did “Britec” appears as the local account administrator even though you used a different User name? I am trying to figure out if I made a mistake.
@@yelemartin8910 no, I used my own personal username. You probably did it wrong, I would just go back and redo the entire thing carefully. Good luck!
@@treesfo thank you, I was setting up a new laptop.
@@yelemartin8910 yeah no problem! Lmk if it went well!
@@treesfo thank you.
Hey Brian, just wanted to point out you said "slash r" and typed '-r'. I'm assuming '-r' is correct since the process continued without fail.
I used "-r" the first time and only got the "defaultuser0" without my username option. I reinstalled and used "/r" and got both "defaultuser0" and my username to login.
There was another account named defaultuser0 with it's own password after I did this, was that normal?
So this works if the ip release doesn’t?
Hi I was able to set this up with a user name I created but Briantec appears as the local account administrator . Can you advise on how to correct this? Thank you.
Not working with win11 in wmware, account working to login to, but got no admin rights and cant enable anything.
Can we go back to 22H2 from 23H2?
Do you necessarily need to create the Administrators account? Can that be removed after the installation of Windows 11 23H2/24H2?
Why the heck would you. There is no (good) reason. YES, the primary account should ALWAYS be Admin.
How can you set up multiple Local Accounts for family members?
Can this be made into a script?
I still have to use a Microsoft account because of Microsoft 365. But the username still truncates it to the first 5 digits and strangely, uses my email in winver.
This is a good strategy though, despite the fact that the defaultuser0 account could be what I call a limited account, or an account in which I don’t want my documents to be saved with my name.
I also have a 2015 MacBook Air. It is a local, UNIX-based account. Nowadays the Apple chip nonsense and the soldered SSDs might mean that I might need to purchase a Windows laptop without soldered SSDs (soldered RAM is fine though). However the 2015 MacBook Air is here to stay for at least 10 years.
what about upgrading 10 - 11?
Hello great video, does this work now today
It is only a matter of time before you will not be able to bypass all of the login during setup. Best to exit windows and go to something more private and secure.
If you don't have a Microsoft account, how does that limit your computer usage? Can you still use the Internet? I believe you cannot shop in the MS Store, but I've never needed to. Anything else in the way of limitations?
No everything else is normal
Saving this and sending it to a sister who wants to buy a new Win 11 laptop
At the Regions list I hit Shift+F10 to open the cmd shell. However, I am unable to type anything in the shell. Has MS blocked this now?
Same.
You need to put the pointer arrow in the cmd bo and click before it will work.
Excellent thanks for showing us another way to defeat the windows account being forced on us 👍
I'm still on Window 11 Pro 22H2 and in gpedit clicking on Administrative Templates then Windows Components then scrolling down to OOBE, I disabled it because if you don't according to what is typed there you can't open a local account. I typed all this out in Brian's video yesterday. 22H2 is good to October but I have delayed feature updates for one year. I don't know if that will hold come October. Another nuisance is when I open my email there is a Microsoft 365 advert and I have to always click on the trash can. I guess they don't get the message. I would imagine that Linux usership will be increasing, Linux Mint looks fairly good.
Does not deserve thanks. It is not a matter of "forced", it's a matter of being proper & intelligent.
Is there a way to add a password to the user account?
or you can use rufus to make a pendrive installation without microsoft account
I disconnect from the internet and set it up that way....
Hello I made a mistake and forgot the .exe -r at the end but it worked
Hello, when it worked for you did “Britec” appears as the local account administrator even though you used a different User name? I am trying to figure out if I made a mistake. Thank you.
I managed to put admin britec them my keyboard stopped working so i force shut down restarted and tried again and that is were missed putting in .exe -r so I shut down again and powered up and it booted
but the first name when keyboard stoppedI was different to the second but it ended up working with the first name
FWIW, I watched your video from a month ago which said that SHIFT + F10, and then typing oobe\bypassnro didn't work anymore.
I just tried that today (June 7, 2024) and it worked for me...restarted and then provided option for limited sign in.
Maybe it's regional? I'm in Canada. Windows Home 23H2.
Still I'll save this method as well, in case I run into further issues down the road.
Wish I didn't need Windows at all (I skipped Win 8 and 10), but all the automation software I use for work is Windows based. I run Linux Mint at home.
Followed your instructions but computer management doesn't contain a local users and groups.
same however i wasn’t on the region selection screen but the wifi screen instead.
I see defaultuser0 is that okay?
Caution: Microsoft has announced that Bitlocker activation will be required in future updates. If Windows detects (even falsely) that some change in hardware has occurred, you will need to log-in to your Windows account to retrieve the unlock code. What happens if you don't have a MS account? I learned the hard way when Bitlocker locked me out because the free trial of OneDrive was full. I could not get into Windows 11 nor my MS account.
Terrific OS isn't it, people are just loving these changes.
The bitlocker code is in computers you can save it to memory stck or print in out , on fresh install it give ur code
And you can turn it off to
Just another reason why not using an MS Acc't is dumb.
@@Drew1903SG It is not the user trhat is stupid, it is microsoft that is making it hard for the user.

He probably deciphered Rufus. (Still working!). 😊😊
Point is it should not be spread around.
I set up a virtual Win 11 last night and was able to bypass the microsoft account by just being persistant in giving a name that was not a microsoft account. It reset the screen, but it worked.
How many times before it let you skip?
It worked but there's another account named "default user" and it's asking for password.... I did use the one I created tho, thanks
Does the Rufus way still work?
Try it, then let me know.
@@72mach-1 I have no need to try it now, that's why I'm asking.

@@paulwarner5395 I hope so.
@@paulwarner5395 Good.
I don't understand the paranoia involved with having a Microsoft Account. When I do a fresh install of Windows, I always sign in with a MS Account. My Windows activation key is attached with it. That has allowed me to keep my same Windows key over three motherboard changes.
I dont understand the paranoia with an old man fingering you once. It's not the point. We don't want or need it
A lot of people think being signed into a Microsoft account allows more tracking which maybe it does but there's plenty of settings within Windows and the Microsoft account settings to limit this tracking and it's not like they aren't tracking with a local account anyway. Yes the activation key being saved to your account is really nice.
@@ghostdragon2593 It's hard for a lot of people to come to grips with the fact that privacy online is an illusion at best. Here in Ohio multi-story Walmart sized data centers are popping up faster than mushrooms after a spring shower. Everyone collects our personal data because it's a multi billion dollar business. As long as it doesn't slow down my PC I'm fine with it.

Bro you're making the same video 10 times a week. Explore a new topic, we all know how to create a local account.
But like Dark Souls the battle never ends. You and Microsoft in eternal combat for the soul of your computer. FIGHT!
(BTW) We use Terminal, now for things. Command Prompt is very 'old school'.
Nor should Users ever be encouraged to muck about in the Reg.
Fine instead of you trying to steer people wrong... after Win10 or 11 is live, switch to (your) MS Acc't. AND you should NOT be using the word "forced". The word is SMART. Using an MS Acc't is SMART, going Local is NOT.
