Microsoft has removed the easiest way to use an offline account. This will be enough to force most users to just comply... and set up an always online Microsoft account. This is the future. They do not want you to be able to use a PC without a permanent tether to their cloud. They want to feed you ads and harvest your data. It's a bit bleak.
However, we can still use an offline mode using a couple different methods. Check out the video.
For the advanced method, here are the instructions:
Press Shift+F10 (some laptops require you to press Function(FN)+Shift+F10)
Then type this into the command prompt: oobe\bypassnro

Granted I don't game on it anyway, but the out-of-the-box experience is sublime. No hoops to run though after installation and I haven't even had to fire up the terminal yet. If I look at the games which don't run, outside invasive kernel-level cheat (which you shouldn't run anyway in my opinion) it is rare that a game doesn't run, the one exception which I have in my library is Far Cry 3, Ubisoft does something weird with DRM which nerves the performance in such a way that the FPS fluctuates between 50 and 150 all the times while standing still on the opening island, this with a 3700X and 5700 XT.

@@mbsfaridi Please don't do that! If you dual boot, install both OS's on a DIFFERENT SSD and just select from which SSD to boot to change the OS. You are asking for trouble if you install those on the same SSD. You can fix it if it goes wrong but new Linux users might not be able to fix it considering that an update from Windows can easily make your Linux-distro unbootable, in that case you have to chroot into your Linux distro and fix it which new Linux users will struggle with. Windows doesn't care about your Linux install, it messes up partitions during updates from time to time, changing the partiton-number for your Linux distro or causing your motherboard to use the Windows-bootloader instead of the Linux-bootloader which also can start Windows (but the WIndows-bootloader refuses to start Linux).

@@teksyndicate Which in my opinion is very much fair. I speculate that you use music-production software which is Windows only.
It is about which carries more weight for the user: the necessity or need to use certain software vs the discomfort of using that operating system. I myself dumped Windows 4 years ago for my private computing, I occasionally had to use it due to external circumstances which I do not control in which case I use a VM. I sacrificed a few games which I liked to play by dumping Windows.
For me personally the user-experience of using Windows is that bad that I am not willing to deal with that unless I really need to use certain software (work or education) but I am not stuck to using certain Windows-only software for music or video-editing so for me it is relatively easy to do that. Professional musicproduction and video-editing definitely are possible (it is being done by professionals) on Linux but I get it that people are used to certain software and don't always have the time or interest in changing that.
Honestly, I hope that more and more developers who currently are not supporting Linux are willing to change this now that Windows has become so user-hostile. Sometimes those developers have bad will, sometimes it just is difficult to port the software after having developed it for that one operating system for so long and being locked in with certain libraries and all that. Note though that there also is Linux-only software which can help a lot at times though much of the better Linux-software also gets ported to Windows, like GIMP and Krita.

@dreaper5813 "And don't give me that BS that there is no other options."
I think that - as for what's actually helpful that can come from us as I agree with you - we should state these alternatives and provide support throughout (to the best of our abilities) when asked. A lot of the gung-ho "figure it out yourself" behaviours/beliefs in certain Linux communities isn't helpful at all for entry level; it comes off as ivory tower nonsense to the layman. Basic accessibility and entry-level knowledge have always been the primary struggles with introducing people to get into Linux (I know; I've been teaching people on how to make the full switch to Linux for almost a decade). The popularity of Linux Mint supports this hypothesis to be significant, and even some Linux courses show this. If there's no frame of reference as to where to even just search and learn, then urging people to switch to Linux is a dead-in-the-water deal, especially with Microsoft's aggressive and invasive marketing of accessibility.

    • @peterjansen4826

@dreaper5813 I understand where you are coming from and you definitely are correct that many people can switch to other software to get the same done, be it music-production, video-editing or art (an artschool in Paris fully switched to Linux-software for this). But we also have to take into consideration that many of these guys just want to do their thing - like making music - and not have downtime while figuring out how to get this done with other software on a system which is a bit strange to them to some extend. Much of the software which can do great things just isn't as known and as low threshold. One of those jewels is Natron.

It's annoying because there is a difference between your Windows user being a MS account and you being signed into Microsoft products on a local user. It's a specific example, but imagine you're setting up a new endpoint for a business that only has W10 machines with local users and no domain controller. This new endpoint comes with W11, now you need to either make a throwaway MS account, or have the user sign into their PC with their own personal MS account on a work machine since their work email is not set up for AzureAD to then create a local user with netplwiz... when it could just stay a feature in the installer. I don't even want to get into the problems I've had over the years with personal MS account Users trying to add work or school accounts to their Office apps and OneDrive...

This is possibly the most incorrect comment ever. I might have to make a video on why you should never sign in

Now do it with an apple device. I like how everyone happily uses an online account for apple devices but as soon as Microsoft wants to do it this sort of thing happens… I guess the don’t think apple is collecting their data 🙄🤣

I don't hate Windows, but I wish that governments eventually decide go force Microsoft to stop all this bullshit. All that should be needed to create an offline account is clicking a button in that same dialogue.

I don't even need this 4 minutes long tutorial video.
Phoenix X-Lite Windows 24H2 have no account creation in the first place until you get to the Desktop wallpaper for the first time, and then it will ask you to create regular user account just like Windows 7

There are tons of creative apps that simply doesn't run on Linux. Not to mention horrible Graphics Card driver support as well.

I just game. Thats about it. It's counterintuitive to use an os that has less gaming support when Thats my main focus sadly. I'd love to use Linux for a workstation though.
