  • LED Nirvana! In this video I install 4 LED bulbs for the Prius and explain the procedure to help other wanting to do this same thing. The light is much whiter and looks a lot better.

    ICE coolant reservoir, not windshield washer fluid at 1:59.

    Just finished mine. Dealer wanted $110.00 to change it. I admit that its tricky to get to and you MUST take out the fluid reservoir. Another challenge was finding the hole again after you've changed the bulb. Other than that its a piece of cake. Took about 10 minutes and some change.

    • @jimsgaragetoys
      @jimsgaragetoys  Před 2 lety

      Yep, it's not hard to do but if you take your time you will find the holes when inserting the new LED bulbs. And now they look great!

      I was able to change the bulb WITHOUT removing the fluid reservoir! Contorted my way to finding it. Took 3-5 min max. Dealer wanted 59.99.

    Thanks for posting the video. From where did you purchase the coolant reservoir cover? You said it comes on models released in Japan, but not in the US. Thanks!

      I found that on eBay around 7 years ago! I'm not sure if they are still available or not.

    Thanks for posting this video. Are the bulbs the same for both the top (shown in the video) and side (yellow strip) lights?

    • @jimsgaragetoys
      @jimsgaragetoys  Před rokem +2

      Yes, they are the LED version for 168/194 size regular bulbs.

    Thank you for the video. I think it would be easier to take the whole assembly out by removing the 2 bolts on top. Also when you are changing bulbs out you have to wear gloves so your skin oils don't get on the bulbs as it can shorten their life. I've experienced a bulb didn't work at all because I handled it with my bear hands.

    • @jimsgaragetoys
      @jimsgaragetoys  Před 2 lety +1

      On the Prius I would have to take off the front bumper to remove the headlights, as it wasn't necessary there was no point. It's not just removing the 2 top bolts to get it out, there are bolts that can only be accessed by removing the bumper. As far as oils in you skin, that it true, but not with LED bulbs. I just wipe them clean after installing them with an alcohol wipe anyway, even if it's not needed.

    • @randy1896
      @randy1896 Před rokem

      Bumper removal is not needed, a few screws under the wheel liner , take out and peel a small space to get socket on the hidden bolt. Then just the 2 top screws and assembly comes out

    I have the same oil catch can. Where did get or make the BRACKET you have for your Catch Can?

    • @jimsgaragetoys
      @jimsgaragetoys  Před 10 měsíci +1

      It's just a simple "L" bracket I picked up at the local hardware store. It's about 1"x3".

  • @Sb129

    so... what if more than half the bulbs are burned out on that circuit? Do you think that would blow the fuse?

    • @jimsgaragetoys
      @jimsgaragetoys  Před rokem

      That's a good question. I don't believe so unless you had a short in the circuit.

      Good job. I have big hands and removing the filler tube gives a lot more room to maneuver and get the RF bulb out. The LF bulb required nothing to be moved. My wife was able to get her smaller hand in there but she didn't know what to feel for.

      Well, this video will show you how to do the parking bulbs near the headlight bulbs. It's very easy to do these bulbs. I'll be replacing the license plate bulbs in the Prius soon and I'll post a video on that process too so subscribe so you know when it loads.

    🇺🇸 beautiful posters in the garage! I see you change the low beam. Is there a high beam too?

    • @jimsgaragetoys
      @jimsgaragetoys  Před rokem +1

      There is a high beam bulb too but I haven't bothered with it as the high beams on this car don't get used much if at all. When my wife commutes back and forth from work when dark there is always traffic around were only the low beams are used. The high beam bulbs would be very easy to swap out though if needed.

  • @andju2hikari

    I can reach to get the bulb holder. You need to have a smaller hand & arm. Make sure you wear long sleeve. It is too much to take off the coolant tank.

      Since when is removing 2 bolts too much to do? 🤣 It literally takes less than a minute to slide it out of the way and give you more room. Kind of a must for those of us with bigger hands!
