I watched a few videos of how to do this, and I found yours the most helpful. Went out to the car last night and swapped out the bulb, making sure it was locked in properly, with no problem. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for your clear explanation of the correct rotation of the bulb. I looked at other videos but none explained the correct position as clearly . Thanks!
So refreshing to hear that you are not charging your customer, for the quick fix. I watch other mechanics on CZcams and they usually say "If a customer doesn't pay me, then I'm not fixing/cleaning it." The car wizard won't even wipe down oil from a previous spill, if he isn't paid for it.
The only thing that he has to sell is his labor. If he gives it away for free, how will he stay in business? If he only spent 15 minutes on it, perhaps he could consider it as a marketing expense to get the customer to return again and again. That is a trade-off that he must weigh.
Nice vid, thanks for making it. Simple maintenance is not always so simple in these newer cars. Everything is so packed together it is difficult to even visualize never mind perform a bulb change!
Yes you are right! do not touch the bulb the oil from your hands creates a hot spot on the bulb! It could be a 2000 hour light bulb as an example but could burn out in 200 hours or less. I used to sell all kinds of quartz lamps in my electrical wholesalers job and tried to pass the word on that idea. Thanks for your informative videos 👍 hopefully I can once again get a Toyota vehicle 🤞☘️ happy trails to you all
Little details can make all the difference. Thanks For Showing everyone who haven't had to replace a bulb. And it doesn't hurt to watch again even if you have. 90 degree down turn. Wear Rubber gloves so the oils on your fingers don't get on the bulb. Great Video Brother!
"I'm sure somebody will find this video helpful in the future" => yes, for sure! Thanks for explaining how the bulb should be positionning before inserting it!
Thank you. Finally I managed to get good access to the bulb with my right hand.and for the first time managed to seat it properly. Previously I had always moved the coolant reservoir, but even then access was poor with the left hand.
New Subscriber. I’m going to attempt to change my low beam headlights today and by seeing this video , now I have more confidence to do it right. Thanks a million.
@@TaijiArban Some people did remove the bumper. But if you had enough courage, you could get to the light from above. Considering the fact that I still remember the struggle 10 years later, it was not fun.
@@splat_rick3369 hmm... I don't remember which one, but when I was changing the hid's I had to take out the bumper to install the hids. It was a long time ago so I am not sure if that was the easiest way or what
Update: Just had to replace the bulbs in a 3rd gen. Can confirm it is now much easier than the 2nd gen. Took me 5 minutes and cost me no blood, sweat, nor tears.
Those bulbs get so hot that the one with the metal solder (?) on it will probably fail fairly soon. It should crack at that slight mark on the glass envelope. But, you never know. It might outlive the vehicle. If you ever accidentally touch the bulb glass, you can clean it with a paper towel soaked in alcohol, or acetone, to get the oil off. Spraying the bulb glass with 'classic' tetrachloroethylene brake cleaner might work too. TCE is what they used to dry clean clothes. Mineral spirits might also work, since it evaporates completely. But that would be my last choice. Mom used to wash clothes with it twice a year, before modern detergents were available which could remove skin oil from clothes. How many people today know that? I bet not that many, but it used to be a common thing. I never asked her what they did with the used mineral spirits.
Filter, then burn in the tractor. Low compression engines aren’t very picky about octane. Today’s low-VOC isn’t your grandpa’s mineral spirits, which was white (untaxed) gasoline.
Only you would think of doing this little extra check for your customer - then you don't even charge for it! Your customers are VERY fortunate to have you. Please, clone yourself! BTW we could see perfectly from your camera positioning.
pepeshopping Not to mention that the person that put those in initially probably touched the glass with bare skin, both of those bulbs could already be compromised.
To replace the parking front light bulb on my Yaris, I had to ask a kid with small hands to do it for me, otherwise I would have to remove the headlight, which also involves removing the bumper and other components, very poor design. Did they not expect light bulbs to burn out?
I think this is wrong with my Prius. I can't see with the low beams as well. I will try to do it myself. but I don't know about taking out that air vent. looks like the struggle was edited. Since you said, "finally it's out". But thanks I will see what I can do. It's very hot outside.
Hi Peter I’ve looked all over your channel for an answer but I can’t find one I have a 2004 Toyota Tundra 4.7l 4x4 and I want to change my transmission fluid should I just change it or should I flush it?
Hi try to replace a turn signal on a 2011 Camry you have to take out the front bumper and the headlight to change the bulb it’s annoying I don’t know how better way to do it
You can access the turn signal through the wheel wells. There's a couple of videos here on you tube about it. Basically turn your front wheels as far left/right as possible to gain more access. Use a trim tool to take out two rivets. Carefully remove the wheel well/shield enough so you can access the turn signal with your hand.
I have seen this issue when the bulb is fully seated in the headlight assembly. Also have also seen this issue if the old bulb gasket sticks to the headlight assembly and you install a new bulb on top of it. That messes the distance up between the bulb and the optics in the headlight assembly.
Ironically I took my Prius into Toyota World yesterday for an oil change and light change (just the right side front headlight). It cost about 100$, come to find out they never even replaced my light. Didn't even look at it! Apparently Toyota doesn't like sqeezing in that small place either. Kind of annoying, not going to lie!
Cars yes. But compared to crossovers it is about average. There is 6.5 feet with the seats down and has as much space I side as other hatchback crossovers
I had heard that Prius headlight replacement was super expensive. Thank you Peter for simplifying the job. You rock!

Excellent video! A long term problem on these cars. Love them but hate the bulb replacement 😂
Changing the headlamp on the 2nd generation is much more difficult: can confirm. I haven't had to change one on a 3rd gen yet.
Is that the one where you have to remove the front bumper?

Wow, what an essay on solvents, all properly punctuated. One does not get to see that nowadays too often, especially in YT comments. Well done, sir!:)

LOL I am grandpa's age. He was probably expecting the old non oriented push in bulbs of he wasn't the one that took the old bulbs out.
You should have REPLACED that compromised bulb!
Now it is only a matter of time before it fails as it has a hot spot.

👍👍😋Thanks Peter, great information.
Peter, I noticed these are Sylvania bulbs, in my experience, bulbs supplied by Toyota last much longer.
Toyota doesn’t make bulbs
@@rightlanehog3151 no they’re typically outsourced especially if they’re regular halogen bulbs
I just replaced the Phillips that came with a 7 year old Prius with Sylvania. We'll see how long they last.

There is a side 'marker' bulb that illuminates the right side amber colored area?

How to replace headlight bulb of Prius 2019
Grandpa has no finger strength anymore. It happens to us all.
Did you take all that part for the right bulb to show it better or so you reach in?
I would wear thin nitrile gloves in case I accidentally touch the bulb. Otherwise your body oil will burn a black spot on the bulb and dim it.

What if we remove the engine in order to replace a headlight
That would be what is required on a BMW. German engineering!

What is your opinion about replacing regular bulbs with LEDs ? I did it on my 2015 CRV and it’s much brighter and nicer light.
Don’t do it. Your leds basically blind me at night

I love that LED light. Can you divulge the make and model please?
Sylvania H11 for this model.

Ok
The passenger side bulbs are hard to change. You have to have tiny hands 👐 like Trump to get to them.
