    Mixcloud don't cut you for copyright reasons BUT the problem is that for unknown DJs like myself, nobody will watch your streams so in a sense you are paying $15.00 a month and getting zero views, where as Facebook/Instagram your friends and family will show you support.
    There needs to be a platform where we get some traffic coming to our stream (like periscope and LiveMe), instead of trying to beg non DJ's to go to a DJ site to watch us play live.

    • @househeadspeakz
      @househeadspeakz Před 4 lety +1

      The way to solve that is to allow your friends and followers from FB and IG to check you out on Mixcloud. Unless they know where you are live streaming, you will not get any views.

      @AndrewBernardin Před 4 lety +2

      @@househeadspeakz yea, but how many of those people are going to sign up to another platform towatch let alone click a link? Facebook makes this even more difficult by distributing it less if the post's purpose is to link outside of its platform unless it's boosted.

    Yep, sounds like FB/IG still isn't trying to hear the music, but hey the loss will be theirs when Mixcloud and other sites like PlayDJ get more popular. FB/IG allowed places like zoom far exceed them and now FB has a zoom type setting all of a sudden. FB tries to control everything, but their lack of commitment to people is slowly costing them more and more in the long run.

      Facebook bought Instagram because it was becoming more popular, that's what they do, if they cant buy the new companies they just copy their features like what they did with snapchat. Regular people dont really hang out in PlayDJ or Mixcloud tho, it's hardly competition in their eyes.

    Gotta admit that us DJ's have been fighting the good fight on IG and FB, but even I have noticed a decline on the Lives I've been seeing. I still need to try out Mixcloud Live but you're right that it looks like it will be the new wave. The best lives I've done have been Zoom parties. No worries about the streaming police there, but it's definitely more of a challenge to attract participants. Either way, thank you for sharing your experience. Yo thanks for staying on top of this 👍🏽 So yeah a friend works for Twitch and warned me pre-Covid to be wary even with unlicensed (background) music during gaming. As for a "DJ Set" their policy clearly states it as a "May Not Use.'" I know ATM they're not as diligent as FB/IG so many are building on it but I agree that it's just a matter of time before they crack down. Personally I wish Caffeine.tv would take the initiative and invest in some licensing because their platform seems to push music heavy and with their celebrity backing, maybe they could make waves. For now I'll revisit Mixcloud

Compared to FB, IG, and CZcams, Mixcloud is a small business, so I can't understand how THEY have managed to secure music rights where as the big boys can not? But you're right, always worrying about getting cut off is a drag. The record labels are adamant about enforcing copyrights, you'd think that during these troubling times they would give dj's a waiver for a few months. As always you are on point young jedi !

    Hi DJ Alex TheGothmariner here. I have not been on Mixcloud long but I love it! I use Mixcloud it is the way ahead I use the big social media to direct my audience advertise to my radio show and live streams on Mixcloud. At first I would stream on Mixcloud and read the chat on Facebook and tell them I would stop chatting on Facebook for later shows to encourage everyone to get a free Mixcloud account to chat on there. Now I only announce streams and post links on big social media. The big social media don't care about DJs we are a tiny percentage of there audience that bring big music licencing headaches to them but Mixcloud is all about music and DJs. See you on Mixcloud. ;)

    I'm curious to know what licence(s) Mixcloud were able to negotiate that Twitch (owned by Amazon) & Instagram (owned by Facebook) have not been able to obtain. Seems odd. Maybe this type of licencing is too expensive to 'give away for free'? If that is the case, why don't they change their model and offer Twitch/Instagram premium. Any legit DJ will be happy to pay for a platform/channel that makes sure artists/writers/copyright holders get their fair slice. Without speaking their legal departments to get a clear/clearer explanation, we can only hypothesize. I want to know! I want us all to have a proper way to do this - without hitting problems. I know that with Film & TV shows, music is cleared/licenced legitimately for either the World or certain territories. Streaming for certain territories would be better than nothing - if we know in advance. Not sure how users (in a restricted country) could circumnavigate a streaming app using a VPN, if that's at all possible? Worldwide would be future forward. It's up to us to put friendly pressure on, suggest, & advise our favourite streaming platforms to deliver what we want - even at a premium.

    To be honest, i rate Mixcloud. I done some work with these guys (albeit outside of the music sphere) and being a DJ i was asking questions and tbh their setup is impressive. So, recently after i treated myself to some new turntables i thought id give it a crack. I cba with being booted off for copyright strikes so went with the mixcloud platform and it was perfect for me. Had it set up in about 10 minutes, obs and mixcloud worked fine together and everyone that logged in said that the audio and video quality was spot on, i was also streaming for 4 hours - straight off the bat. What more can you ask for? Had people watching from all over - uk, canada, afghanistan, australia and it worked flawlessly. IG, facebook and whatever - youre just going to get booted and if people are enjoying themselves is it really worth the hassle?

He said that you have to copy and paste a URL on,, let’s say Facebook, and hope that people click on it. I was hoping that people could just go to Mixcloud, type in your name in the search and all they’d have to do at that point is click on your profile and boom,,, they see your stream! Please tell me how you do it! Greatly appreciate it! Thanks!!!

      Hey man, so as you set up the stream it gives you a link. Theres a little button that you click and it copies the link to your clipboard and you just paste it to wherever you want, so in a facebook status, IG story / bio etc. People click it and it takes you straight to your live stream. A lot of my pals registered a mixcloud login with their facebook credentials and i believe it lets them know if im live streaming (i could be wrong on that though). In short though, it was really easy foe people to join.

      Another thing i would say is this. Before i went to mixcloud i asked my DJ/Producer pals if they had any questions for me to ask. One of the questions that come a lot was why the premium subscriptions and the guys at mixcloud were saying that it costs a lot of money for them to get the licenses so we can play what we want over livestream etc and because they wanted to develop this area they had to find the income to be able to buy the licensing. I cant imagine how much licensing fees are but i love the fact that there is a platform for us where we can legally play what we want without the fear of breaching licensing agreements and from what Cleveland Terry was saying on this video, it seems like a minefield.

All schools, and colleges pay asap bmi copyright licenses for the bands to be able to play music, for the dos to do dances. I work at nightclubs which pay live dance and performance permits which also pay copyright fees. Restaurants also pay licensing fees which is why you can goto apple bees and hard rock and hear music through there systems while you eat. Why is it different for us to use these platforms. Yes i know some folks are gonna hate on paying but shit already pay monthly for iTunes, spotify, apps that we use. Yesterday, I tested my live stream using Restream. I added Mixcloud, Twitch, and CZcams. CZcams didn't show my live stream so I am removing it. I have no issues with Twitch or Mixcloud. They will be the ones I use with another platform once that is up and running. The others I won't bother.

  • @djlouparis
    @djlouparis Před 4 lety +5

    IG, FB, and other platforms don't understand their copyright parameters because they don't understand all the complexities of copyright, that their ContentID engines still are flagging things in-stream even if they give "special permission", and frankly they dropped the ball trying to work with copyright holders to be able to create a platform for DJs to safely operate on. It's not totally their fault because of how draconian copyright is but they do have the might to be able to bargain for us.
    And while Mixcloud on paper is safe, I am curious for how long. They are basing off UK law and if they blow up I bet you they are going to get attacked from US copyright holders and it could be a massive battle brewing.
    The only way this gets fixed is if lobbying congress to either work in rules specific for the DJ profession (hell I would pay for a yearly "everything is legal" pass) and/or work in clarity in law and simplicity of copyright clearing. This is literally the only way it gets fixed, if it ever can be fixed.

      I don't think so. Mixcloud has all the licenses and has been supporting DJs and Producers since day one. I believe once they off beta and have all the bugs fixed, they will be the go-to platform for DJs for they know first hand the needs of DJs/Producers.

    Oh man CT. I'm so tired of being frustrated with IG as well. I see their CEO posting about how the platform cares about causes and its users blah blah blah... All BS. Like you said they don't even know the product they have! I would love to use more of Mixcloud. If you have a chance could you ask them if they plan of making it possible to livestream from their phone app in the future? I never planned on doing streams to begin with and aside from my phone I don't have equipment that is reliable enough to stream from a webcam. Anyway, that would be a big help for some of us... Thanks for informing us my brother. Cheers!

    It's all fully AI operated. You will need to "play games" with the algorithm to prevent getting kicked out. About 2 months ago, I DJ live on Instagram for 2 hours and never got kicked off. Here's the trick I did,
    > Mix your songs as quickly as possible
    > Use LOTS & LOTS of effects. Use Echo, filter, Noise, Tremolo; Do backflips and dumps.
    > Have another DJ or friend MC over the music ALOT. Say shoutouts, thank yous, welcomes, and jokes. It really helps.

    Question
    I have been purchasing vinyl records for many many years . Ok since I'm
    6 or 7 years old some of them that far back. Ok so when buy a record
    Back then say $6.99- to $11.99
    Full album and as years go on
    12" for $7.99 and upwards depending on when (if it was later on when the joint was hot or they sold a new funky long version).
    Is that not my record ?
    Yes ... so why can't I play it whenever i want ???
    And here is my problem
    So all the records i own
    I really dont ?
    And why is that?
    Most of them are before today's
    Executive even worked for WHATEVER company is claiming
    They own my record collection.
    If that's the case
    I want a full refund with interest
    Compounded daily for over
    30 years ??
    Then and only then I will ask if it's ok to the old record , plus what about the records with hole in the corner ?
    Please explain this to me.
    Thanks DJEZD !!!!!

      You own the right to play the music for personal use. As soon as you attempt to play it commercially and or broadcast it you have to acquire a music license.

    Mixcloud is were I stream at. I have stopped going live on Facebook, IG, Twitch, CZcams & Periscope. I've used Mixcloud several times and haven't had any issues. As far as the other platforms I found out that for them to pay for the music licensing it would only be a single-digit percentage to their profits and it would not be worth it to them.

  • @djchakir
    @djchakir Před 4 lety +3

    Its all license automation on these platforms.
    I betcha they didnt program the platform system to implement specific event exclusions.
    So basicly the IG people were ignorant them selves and probably trusted someone to take care of it, who couldnt because of the automation.

    I would say this is probably due to the buy out of instagram by Facebook. The donate probably didn’t work in specific countries due to fraud levels in those countries and the card processing would need to be approved prior to a transaction. This is controlled by ip. Or they may not pay or have processing in the currency or financial institution backing in the country for the processor.
