- The number 1 question I've seen is how to avoid copyright flags on Instagram, Facebook and CZcams. Here are some things that I do to extend my live sessions.

Had a little editing error at 11:47. Thought I pulled it out. Oh well. It happens. At least I know you’re watching. 😂
Cleveland Terry dude.... 😂 that’s really insignificant compared to the jewels 💎 thanks for sharing the knowledge! You, DJ Tech Tips and Mojaxx keep me fed😋
Keeping it real bro 👊🏻💥
Bro thanks for helping Us DJs with the things you learn. We need this bad because All our Gigs Are postponed.
Great video, great info. I just wanna play my rare funk and soul 45s, but even those can get you flagged.
@@thislazylife exactly. I'm a old school Frankie Knuckles/Larry Levan garage house dude. Even those songs are getting flagged. But I'm glad I listened to this because underground house music have a tendency to be played a little longer than they should. Plus I'm not used to sound effects in those styles of music and maybe that should make a difference when it comes to disrupting the "algorithm".
There needs to be a subscription service that gets approved by the music publishers that works with the social media sites. DJs could pay 10 to 20 bucks a month to go live as much as they want. The service could let the DJs take tips through the service. Enough tips can make the service pay for itself. DJs can get the exposure, artists get paid, DJs get paid, the service gets paid, everybody happy. There are streaming services. What I'm talking about is basically a versions of Mixcloud, but for live-streaming on social media. I think it could be done. Just don't know where to start to try to make it happen. But it needs to be a thing.
Agreed!
That is not the answer if you paid 20 bucks for a month subscription and went on twice a day and played 30 songs each set the artists that owns the music wouldn’t be getting paid fairly. The ANSWER is, if you have a 30 song set, pay $30 bucks, 1 dollar per artist, that is more than they get per stream on Spotify, Apple Music and all other platforms.
Good idea and they could also request a percentage of anything collected if the DJ is being tipped within their CashApp or other service.
Best idea ever! But, I'd say have different plans and no tips for the DJs, as it's free advertising for us, and increasing our fan base. $10/month for 5 streams, $20/month for 10 streams, $50/unlimited...or something to that effect. Hell, I'd pay $20/month to do 10 sessions and get my name out there. You know they're all about the money. It would actually benefit the artists also, as album sales are basically a thing of the past. Again, great idea bro.
Apparently, Mixcloud is about to start a streaming service for DJs. It's free for the first 90-days, then after that I think it's a monthly subscription that the DJs have to pay.
Best explanation I have heard so far! I went two hours with no issue by doing exactly what you stated. Mix quick, add effects, change tempo and even changing the key.... super appreciate you sharing!
my guy! This is so so helpful, thank you! I'm streaming for the first time this Saturday and I usually mix in a few mainstream hip hop songs, but I mix fast and use effects, as well as bpm changes and some other stuff...once again thank you and keep putting out content
Great insight! I just subscribed. Thanks so much for breaking it down for us, Terry!
Cleveland this is what I needed to hear thanks brother. I was on you a few weeks back about VDJ vs Serato and at the end of the day I'm comfortable with what I use and I hope you are to. Thanks for the tips on live streaming.
Always sharing the knowledge. Nice. Thanks for the rundown.
Instagram should start a service for Dj’s who want to stream live where we could pay a monthly fee to cover copyrights maybe 10 or 20 a month
Good idea!
Or you could start your own streaming service that caters to dj's and others wanting to live stream events that may contain copyrighted material. Each one teach one.
I've been saying that for a while, I've even mentioned it to Instagram, if Dacast, Ustream and Vimeo charge a yearly or monthly fee to stream music, then facebook and instagram can do the same.
I love that idea bro
Dj DeepStormZ that will be the best option
Man, first time on your channel. Very good tips. Keep up with the great work!
I do have method that works 99% of the time, and I play all genres, and a lot of old school.. I typically do 2-4 hrs on my facebook live.. I can play music quickly or long..Working on a tutorial now
That's cool Blake. I wish my sets would last that long. I do the same mostly old school and freestyle seem to last longer. Looking forward to your tutorial.
Where is the Tutorial? :(
Great follow up video. Excellent advice. Practical, relevant and of utmost importance for a successful live stream. 💯👍🏾
Really thoughtful topics Terry. Enjoying the content, 2 Thumbs up!
that was a great show you did for us today, much appreciated. please do it again.
Love your tutorials, they are spot on, ive been live stream djing for a while, i will def use your tips, peace
Thank You so much Cleveland Terry! I’ve been trying to figure out how to do this for so long, because I was worried about getting booted!!! Appreciate it
I’m a House and Trance Dj and found your video very helpful it is exactly what I’ve found to be the case too. I now keep my mixes to just under an hour and use effects with plenty of actual creative mixing where it’s appropriate. I keep it simple just using my iPhone with good lighting however, I’ve found the most important thing is the sound quality. People have commented on that the most since I started using an I-rig Stream.
Appreciate you always sharing your wisdom, man. I've learned a lot!
Very insightful and glad you broke it down I'll pass this on to my fellow DJs thank you bro
Another way to stay away from being hit with a kick is to speed up the song with key lock off, that way it’s harder for the computer to analyze the song if the pitch is changed, just by a couple BPM can save your stream!!!
Yea... naw... speeding up or slowing down makes no difference. EX Shazam... it doesn't just listen to the song but all the pieces of the song.
Yep! Works for me EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!
Just Use all unofficial remixes!
Fake news
I was just about to say this works for me. I’ve notice a difference immediately in the length of my streams. Was able to go almost 2 hours on FB without being taken down. But I do fast mix so I do have that as an advantage in not being flagged so often too.
Loving the channel, but just wanted to clarify and give some facts regarding copyright. I had the pleasure of working at the end of last year at PPL (public performance licence) here in London. Now although they are not directly associated with all the publishers and companies who monitor the internet for breaches in copyright, they do have all the official legal documentation regarding right or wrong! I spent a long time reading these. Here's the deal. First, the myth about pitching up or down, changing keys to try and trip up the software detection system, does NOT work. It may have worked in the early days when the software was not as sophisticated. Secondly, the theory of only playing a part of the track will avoid a hit is also not true. According to the paperwork specification, all audio/visual detection software MUST be capable of detection within 2 bars. There are certain record companies who are more active than others, Warner Brothers being VERY active! The copyright issue has been enforced more during the last 6 months with changes in law regarding this practice. So how do you avoid being kicked off a stream... Play only white label or un-signed dance tracks, or VERY obscure tracks. I realise some of you will say, "how come this guy never gets kicked off..", I guess it's just the luck of the draw. Hope this insight helps. Great videos btw.
djmarkalmond hi Mark, is there a way to get some sort of agreement with label/publishers? a lot of big artists are either doing streams or weekly radio shows and they don’t seem to have any sort of issue... thanks
Here is the deal....First, Understand your white male privilege.
@@TWDtv smh. dumb
Yes it's frustrating seeing others play without any issues. I'm happy for them but 😒
What if you do have a PPL, is there a way to let youtube know so your mix doesn't get taken down?
Way 2 go, I like everything that you were saying & mostly the way that you do that, totally understandable! Thank you!
Another great video man. Thanks. Definitely seems like specific artists are "no-goes" anything new in charts or pop is instant flag.
Perfect! I definitely needed to hear this one. if I get kicked off not to get back on and do quicker mixes ...That is solid advise!! Thanks again
Thanks a lot Cleveland, I was looking for this answer for a long, because the cut happened during my live
I appreciate your Live Internet DJ info videos. Thanks! Otherwise, I am glad to mention that I have averaged 2 hour sets plenty of times because of the good habits that you've mentioned. Plus! My longest session on Facebook was 7 hours and 5 minutes. Stay in the mix!
Hooooow?
Hey Terry like ur message been and Dj for quite a while and I can't stop teaching and mentioning this to my fellow DJs stream’urs I'm at the islands in St. Martin in a definitely going to use your video and posted back on my Facebook page with your permission, thanks
Like your contains, stay safe
Great tips bro! I do a lot of old school mixes. Nothing like new school just pressing play. I build the beats, mix the acapellas on it and craft new choruses and custom hooks. Even if tempo is drastically different, when I streamed on here two years ago I would get hit with claim after claim. But never knocked off the stream. I may end up trying Twitch to see if it's less restrictive. I wish as a DJ that actually creates new songs out of existing and including our own production, that things would be more lenient and labels would allow it since we do alot to promote these artist for free.
same here , I got lucky I got one on here that blew up during pandemic and it dint get blocked , and come to find out all those artist are getting there cut from it so that's cool , its an 80s rub mix
Nobody asked bro DJing is literally the most useless occupation possible. Grow up
I've found streaming on Facebook, that I get kicked off sometimes, but muting only happens on playback. I'm starting to treat the livestream like a gig - you had to be there. I don't bother having the vid up for long after the fact.
I'm also recording some and putting on Soundcloud and they stay up.
P.S. play underground, not commercial. Standard.
A very informative video! Thank you for making this!
Word brother, thank you for all the tips, my findings are very similar. Stay strong everyone!
I only play 80's house music and Electro. I never did a live stream.
When I do go live I will include my Digital keyboard synthenzier 🎹 in the mix.
Good information!
Great content brother thank you for the information!!
素晴らしい内容です!! really appreciate your video!! I will work on it and try that!! Personally my fav line was "throw some things into the mix that are specific to you!" great WORD!!
Great overall honest advice. The core of these suggestions only truly apply to Top 40/Commercial music spinning DJs
If you're House/Dance music style DJ like myself, playing fast and mixing in and out with the new-school A.D.D. approach doesn't fit the esthetic of the genre I and my peers reside in
Subscribed just for how informative it is. Thanks!
thanks man! good stuff, I might check out some of your streams :)
I was watching Skratch Bastid's BBQuarantine's live stream on Sunday. I saw from the comments that Facebook dropped out first, and often. Then CZcams dropped out many times, which is what I was watching on. I was then forced to go to Twitch. Twitch never went down in the 2+ hours I was watching...
Yeah i actually was watching that stream on Twitch. in act i saw him go on on instagram and put it on my tv on twitch and i remember hearing hims saying the comment section said he was going offline.
Left us hanging there for a bit at 11:47 😂 great video and advice as always!
Lol. That was supposed to have been edited out. Just making sure you’re watching.
Cleveland Terry it was interesting to see the thinking process! Happens to all of us lol
I totally agree I’ve been watching a lot of my dj Friends getting kicked off left and right and i was like damn, it has to be way so somewhat go around it. And what you mention makes a lot of sense to do some blends with a cappella and a different beat, and get it songs faster lol.. I like that thanks for this info!
@ClevelandTerry, well said 👍
Be Creative & not play full songs is spot on.
Thanks man....appreciate your advice....good advice.....especially with playing entire songs...
This is very helpful. My last set i played my songs too long (which i normally dont do), only because i was buying time for more people to join. But typically i have a 1 to 2 hook rule before i mix in new song
Nice hint 👌🏿 I do almost the same thing, I’ve done live-streaming on Facebook 3x for about 2hrs without any flagging because I search for old music, I don’t play them for too long & I do some mixing tricks to confuse the algorithm....
One of the best explanation ever, I’ve been telling a lot of my Dj friends this and they don’t listen. Glad to see someone else who gets it. We stream on several sites at once with restream and CZcams and Facebook are always the first ones that kick us off, twitch has been the only stream we don’t get kicked off. We just make sure to download and delete our videos. Great video man, absolutely great.
Amazing 😉 thanks I’ll give it a try . Regards from Vienna and stay safe
Ur awesome bro, glad i found you 🔥👌🏽💯
TWITCH TWITCH TWITCH. THE WAY TO GO. NO BULLCRAP COPYRIGHT BANS OR TAKEDOWNS.
This!
It does mute VODS tho, so can’t save it for later
@@Capo711 if you download it right after you finish, you can grab it before it's muted, then re-upload elsewhere.
You can also save the OBS stream.
SubsBSC interesting, i can try that
Definitely needed this vid it's been a hassle for me going live
Really difficult to me as the long mixes are essential to the type of house I play. That being said, you just put my mind in do the short mixes as a personal challenge just for learning process and the fun of what can be.
Great video.
Consider an overlay or effect like he said. Also speed it up and/or mix another track OVER it
@@06alwilliams would a delay or echo change things?
JSB 360 quite possibly but nothing is fool proof anymore
just stream to twitch, apparently they don't take you down live.
hahah very nice videos man, subscribed! GJ
shared on facebook - half my feed is DJs saying watch my stream... the other half is DJs moaning they keep getting kicked off lolol, respect
This was great, super useful information!
Great tips Terry!
this was so helpful. Thanks so much!
Thanks for this. It’s 💯Spot on!! Quick mixing, mashups and quick remixing seem to works best for me as well. I recently streamed and got the notification that there may be copyright issues. I quickly dropped another beat over the track playing and was able to play with no further issue. Thanks for all you do for the community 🤟
Thank you for sharing! Hopefully, this will help!
This is so true .. imma try this nice one thank you
Fly through songs! I hear ya! Thanks Terry.
Thanks for this info big bro I literally just told my coworker who is also a Dj how creative I had to get on ig and fb and why I get out my songs so fast....lol
Sony & Warner are killing my FB sets. smdh. Usually when I quick mix I last 1 1/2 hrs at the most but when I play a song and not layer I get kicked out around 30 mins. Thanks & great tips brotha!
Thanks for sharing this. I'm a beginner DJ myself who is still trying to promote my skills with mixing and have recent uploading some of my mixing to CZcams and Instagram. In one of my uploads, I was beat mixing with some current pop dance tracks and my video was blocked on Instagram. I think I may need to up the tempo a bit on the tracks in question that I share myself mixing, as well as use slightly smaller segments of the songs.
Great video as always man! How many seconds u recommend to play on each song?
Also, genius idea on the layering.
Thanks for the helpful information. Currently going through exactly a copyright claim so either I have to mute the song segment or trim it. Time to get creative.
All my friends have been having good luck with underground electronic, and not getting booted. Guess it's the nature of the beast, play music from labels who can't afford to go after you and you'll never get kicked
Thanks for the advice bro!
Good information Terry
Hi Cleveland. I streamed first time today at Instagram and played a good 30mins before I was cut out. I play obscure pop, soul and jazz music. Thank you for the tips.
Very good video. I play mostly 80s, 90s, early 2000s music but when I switch to newer songs I have gotten flagged within the first 30 seconds of the song.(i.e Strike a pose by young T). Out of the older songs i've only had issues with Usher - Yeah! and butterfly from crazy town. I've also noticed when i play 4 decks and mask the beat of a different song in a different key (i.e two 100 bpm songs being mixed with a third track on a 8 bar loop) certain songs that get flagged passes through. Its really a hit and a miss IMO but worked for me. Playing a track for long is the enemy.
Thank u for the advice I will sure work on my mixing faster
Thanks for the info! I find if I search a song on CZcams and there are multiple posts of the same song and it's been up for a long period of time, you should be good with. Most of the time. Also, remixes help too. Like the old stuff from my DJ days, DiscoTech, Hot Tracks, Ultimix, etc. Again, usually. I had a two part video from Geauga Lake amusement parks last day on CZcams. Part one I had Cafe Del Mar and part two was Madonnas - this used to be my playground. Madonna was muted right away. Cafe Del Mar was up for 10 years and it just got muted. So you're right, no concrete answers. Are you in Cleveland?
I'm not a DJ but this was a f'ing awesomely informative and concise video. Big ups!!
So you're the one guy who's NOT a DJ?! I've heard rumors about you, but I didn't think you existed. Because these days, all you need is a laptop, a cheesy name, and a fist to pump and you can call yourself a DJ.
Your the best bro!❤
Good message my brother
Good looking out!!!
Nice video! Could you please share the camera you used for this video? The video looks super clear and hi-fi. Thanks!!
Snapple facts.....I did a quick Saturday morning mix on IG 2 weeks ago. As soon as Jay-Z got into his verse on "H to the izzo".....my live was suspended immediately. I changed the song and went back in for roughly 2 minutes and left on my own.
Thanks for all your kool vids! I am an old school Dj and I have been having cabin fever so I’ve been playing on Facebook live. I like to play old Hip Hop Demos and old original releases that never made it to radio and mainstream. My concern is that some of these “Demos” never cleared their samples. Would these get flagged? Most of what I have and play I’ve either produced,co-produced, mixed, co-mixed, engineered, recorded(in my studio), did scratches on, or I know who the producer/artist is personally. I also play old school beats that have uncleared samples in them. Any thoughts to help my show out?
very helpful as always. you said to whip through your tracks. about how long do you play each record? i'm thinking 60 songs per hour? this would be helpful
Haven't read every comment here, but only saw one mention of PERISCOPE. Everyone keeps touting Twitch, but Periscope is just as capable, maybe even more capable with features like guest call in, auto post to Twitter, keeps playing in background on iOS and NO TAKEDOWNS. Not to mention ability to receive pro streams via rtsp. The only problem with Periscope is it's not where the herd is grazing!
Cleveland thank you so much for the tip. I'm two weeks new to streaming, I got the FB notifications and pulled form IG. but i'll lick my wounds and go back this week lol
This was def helpful greatly appreciated
Thank you... good info
Nice advice cheers! Recently using mixcloud live though it's early days what do folks think of that?
Liking ur advice. U got a new follower
Hmmmmm, I think you have a point because last Friday night my DJ session on Facebook lasted over 2hrs!! I was mixing in songs faster than usual and was wondering why they let me mix that long! Now I will do that more often!
How long are you letting songs play before mixing out? Can you get away with letting a song play for 2-3 mins, or are you mixing songs faster than that? Very helpful video, thanks for posting!
I’ve been Djing on FB for 4 hours straight... with no problems! Many times! But lately FB has been tighten up! Kicked me out 2X in my last set!
I can attest to the quick mix thing. I also made a crate of things that aren't on any streaming service, which would also take it out of the algorithim. So going more obscure definitely helps.
Thanks, this is useful info.
Thanks for this!
How long per song? What’s your “fly through”
Thanks, this is very helpful for me
Im gonna try twitch in a couple of weeks to see how it is. So far I've done youtubelive and my vids are still up even though they got claimed, they aren't muted. So i continue to entertain my people even in this calamity we're facing. Gotta show them that the DJ game is still on and stronger than ever.
DJ Founten same here. But it sucks as I purchased the dammed music.
Twitch is the way to go. Non of Facebook or CZcams bullcrap. Ive gone for hours with my mixes and videos. Not one time did i get booted.
Hey man... thanks for the video. I had a claim on my set yesterday on CZcams and I purposely edited the video with the last track (one with the claim) after that and then it was fine. So if the song is played shorter like maybe 1st verse and chorus and mix, it’ll be ok?
Bro thanks! U are dead on! 💯
awesome info. thanks
thank u so much for this great idea
Great information thanks.
Twitch is a good way to stream live without problems? It could be useful an article based on this theme, and if it works and you share the live set on facebook, then facebook still stops your stream altough it s not native live?
"I've been kicked off for playing Black Eyed Peas." - I mean the punishment fit the crime. j/k. Very informative video!
Lol. You’re not wrong.
kicked me off for playing 1960s music
