Stop your DJ Mixes from getting TAKEN DOWN | No copyright strikes!

  • I was tired of getting my DJ Mixes taken down off of CZcams due to copyright strikes so I figured out how to use the music policies database of songs to research which songs to use in my mixes and successfully post my DJ mix and not have it taken down! Watch this and find out how to do it! The CZcams Music Policies database has gone away, which is upsetting. You can no longer search for whether a song will be allowed to be played or not....

    The CZcams music database I discussed in this video back in early 2019 is now gone. It no longer exists. This means that there is no longer a way to see if your music will be allowed, meaning you can use the song but the creators of the song monetize your video VS using a song that the creator doesn't allow which means your video will not be able to be seen unless you remove the song. This means we are back to the old way of just having to put up a video music mix as unlisted and see what happens...before sending it to a published state.

Its about hot create a mix with music that YT allows me. But im not free in my creativity at all to use the music i like. So i cant post "my mix"

    Great video. I naively did an half hour live streaming with my favorite tracks (all in theminimal techno style) so my friends could enjoy it. I've been in home lockdown since mid March and bored (and broke) to death hahaha. The video remained in my page but muted... I use my iPad Pro and Djay app (it's pretty awesome) with tracks stored within the iPad and tracks from Spotify. Any way, a pretty frustrating experience. I guess I will just hope the covid-19 one day goes away and I can just play at friend's parties because that's all I mean, to make people enjoy it and dance. I guess I will organize my own stuff on Ableton Live and stream my own material, I guess that will not be a problem. Greetings from Brazil.

Here in the USA, we have the same covid craziness -- praying that a vaccine comes soon because I am not sure anything but that will bring back some sort of normalcy here!!!

    • @BlakeHeart
      @BlakeHeart  Před 4 lety +1

      If you buy a song from beatport, just check the database and see if it is in there. I have found that some house songs that are more obscure or newer are not in there. If they aren't in there, there is no way to know what will happen to your mix unfortunately.

    This was so helpful after digitisation of old sets from the 90’s a search of those tracks shows them already listed and available on CZcams with the publisher and licensed to CZcams. Since I’m not monetising am I ok? Or is more research in order?

    • @BlakeHeart
      @BlakeHeart  Před 2 lety

      I haven't posted a mix in a while, but that seems like a decent way to see that they are allowed for use - they will likely be monetized by the owner.

    The database thing seems to work...most of the time. I have had mixes blocked on the basis of one track which I had already checked on that database. For the most part my stuff doesnt get blocked but thats because of the style of music I play, underground techno. If you are wanting to play more popular known tracks its maybe a bigger issue.

    • @BlakeHeart
      @BlakeHeart  Před 4 lety +1

      So you put a song on that was good to go -- and then after the fact the track that you used became considered a copyright strike? • @BlakeHeart
      @BlakeHeart  Před 4 lety

      No thoughts - sorry! It's a harsh world out there and with the advances in technology it is hard to fool the algorithms. I presume the content may be allowed on CZcams because they have a system set up to pay royalties to those people whose music you are using BUT that IG doesn't have a system set up the same way as CZcams so they don't allow it. I have no idea...it's all about trying it and seeing what works. How would white noise work, wouldn't your listeners be annoyed by having to hear white noise in the mix? Interesting question! I don’t think this is a problem since it’s similar to teaching people how to play an entire song on guitar for example, you are just using some instrumental help - which is not music made by the original artists - to be able to show how to play bass...

    • @JessikaDawn
      @JessikaDawn Před rokem

      @@BlakeHeart Karaoke versions also get blipped sometimes because they're a "cover" and covers still need proper lisencing to go ahead and play if they have enough likeness to the song itself and not another redition of it. Another way of doing this is to make a test track using snippets of each song (10-20sec instead of full track), upload - unlisted > YT Creator Studio (open video) > visibility > view copyright claim status - see which are blocked, remove those tracks, maybe keep a list of blocked songs. Credit to DJ Carlo for this method and commentor Maryalee Scarlet for the tip of shortening the songs for the copyright test track.

      Well, as you probably know, you can post anything on Mixcloud -- but that's not going to work on CZcams, I am not sure there's any easy way around the fact that you won't be able to use the same mix for both sites, unless each song is clear on CZcams. Many years ago, I just accepted this is the way things are...for now. Maybe they will change at some point in the future -- but too many people have legal rights to these songs in so many countries, I think it is hard to companies to negotiate with some of the copyright owners.

      So it looks like it has officially gone away, the database no longer exists. This was in the works for a while, we knew it was going away, and this stinks. It was at least a way to know whether or not your video would be taken down or silenced. Without this resource, looks like the hard way of making a mix, putting the video up as a unlisted to see what happens, and then go from there is the best approach...which isn't ideal!

    Hey Blake I have been really puzzled to knowing that youtube doesn't allow copyright music on videos but why is it that people like these youtubers SENSE AND PLAYLIST and BOBBY NSENGA are able to make playlist videos with music that I would think would be copy written? Do you know how this is possible? plus you can look up ex. r&b playlist and find plenty of videos with music that haven't been taken down.

    • @BlakeHeart
      @BlakeHeart  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, a lot has changed, more songs can be played >> here’s the deal, you can include a variety of copy written music in your videos these days in a DJ mix BUT you can not monetize that video. The original artists will get any money it makes because there will be ADs slapped onto it. Things have changed a lot since I made this video, the database no longer exists to my knowledge. Put together a video with the songs you want to use - stick it up as unpublished and see what happens. Likely you will see most songs are allowed but will have ADs on them.

    I have talked to lawyers specifically about Electronic Dance Music and have had several loopholes and defenses explained to me. For example. I have been told that one may argue that dance music specifically has been engineered for the purpose of mixing and not as much listening. Therefore, when the artist purchases the music it is not dramatically different from a painter buying paint. When that painter is buying and using trademarked colors they are not expected to pay a royalty to the manufacturer when/if the painting sells. There is quite a bit more to this that touches on transformative works ect. But the gist is I have been told that there is a legit defense in this specific case. However, it has never been had to be used from what I was told. By and large dance music producers and labels are not copyright trolling DJs online or otherwise. My lawyer could not find a single lawsuit filed against a DJ for playing a copy-written song at a live event, or for distributing it on a demo cd, online ect.
    Oh! and BTW: If you are only playing songs in CZcams's database then you are kind of a shit DJ in my opinion. You should be playing music that motivates you in a manner which motivates others and not just playing the same boring shit everyone else is playing.

    • @BlakeHeart
      @BlakeHeart  Před 4 lety

      The bottom line is that the algorithm is going to take it down if CZcams doesn't have permission from all copyright owners to utilize the song on its platform - and Facebook is even worse...so at the end of the day, doesn't matter because the creators have no control.

    • @AaronAlso
      @AaronAlso Před 4 lety

      Actually the Algorithm doesn't block content it can't identify and it requires some very specific parameters be met to get a confirmation. There are entire channels of DJ mixes that have not been taken down because the music is not in CZcams's database. (see: Partiboi69)
      And again from a legal perspective,
      all they have to do is secure public performance licenses from ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC. Maybe to offset the costs they charge a small annual fee to the creators that require those licenses to be kept up to date. It could really be that simple. I'm not sure which or how they have compiled this dogshit list of "approved" music but it is far far from complete. With licenses from all three organizations one can basically play any music every released in the U.S.A. in a public forum and for profit.

    • @BlakeHeart
      @BlakeHeart  Před 4 lety

      AaronAlso but using it for video is different than public performance in nightclub, or similar. I’m not arguing with you, I absolutely believe the laws and licensing need to be updated because many DJs would be willing to pay a fee to be able to play these songs, just as is done by bars, restaurants and retail stores to ascap, BMI so I’m totally with what you’re saying...

      Go read the licensing agreements and various options at the ASCAP website. They actually include licenses specifically for online presentation in both pure audio and audio/video format.
      The problem is, and trust me I've argued with CZcams until I was blue in the face. Even if the individual, you or me, goes and secures an ASCAP/BMI license CZcams will not honor it. Technically they don't have too because the laws require them to have the license not the performer. CZcams could still get sued for allowing the music to be played on their platform without being licensed. The performer would be covered, but not the platform.
