Always coming to the channel for the hard hitting questions about the intricacies of Belgian energy policy and the quality of coal in the country! And as usual, the pod didn't disappoint! :D
I don’t even like bikes. I’m just writing a masters thesis on Belgian energy policy, and this pod is my main source.
Former energy regulator here. Can confirm analysis is as good as you'll see at many an EC energy policy meeting
Hi guys! I would love it if you could buy Lantern Rouge bidons! Please make it happen.
I love Pidcock but there's no excuse for a Yorkshireman being bad in the rain
I just hope we do not see some bad crashes. Had enough of these!
Benji rocking that outfit 🤘🎸
Benji doesn’t get enough credit for his drip. Homie can dress.
As always, a great podcast that really gets you into what matters in the race. Now that team selections are more clear, it is perhaps worth mentioning that with MOHORIČ, POELS, BILBAO, BUITRAGO, and TIBERI Bahrain Victorious has five very good riders lined up in this year's LBL, each capable of finishing top-10 in this race. Santi showing last year that going straight from the Tour of the Alps into LBL can work very well. BV have never much seemed a team that can collectively execute a strong game plan in a one-day race, but they certainly have a collection riders with decent form and pedigree (stronger as a team perhaps than UAE, where e.g. Almeida is strong on paper but fairly useless in monuments/one-day races/cold weather in practice).
Santi is underrated in this race, he finnished 3 last year and is in good form this year.
🇨🇴
Flandres and Walloonia are pretty much self-sufficient on energy. Flandres has windmills galore, Walloonia has power producing dams all over the place. Walloonia has 3 nuclear reactors, Flandres has 4.
We're importing a ton of energy from France iirc
Cold weather doesn’t suit MVDP? Are you serious? 😂 Physiologically speaking he’s at an advantage, that and past results in bad weather make him the second favourite…
2nd favorite is a big stretch
Agree. I recall MVDP attacking in Tirreno wearing no wet weather gear in 2021. It was a long way out. Pogi nearly rode him down but that was because (ironically) Pogacar sat in and then attacked WVA for GC. MVDP is great in the wet and he’ll descend proportionately faster than 95%. The question is how the favourites are in relation to each other given awful weather. Is he a net gain over Pogacar in the wet - no. Let’s hope everyone stays upright and in injured.
Don’t think MVDP is second favourite though. Disagree with Patrick about Teuns a) holding MVDP’s wheel up the Koppenberg or b) hold Pogacar’s wheel in a straight fight. This is about can they a) hold Pogacar or b) beat Pogacar.
This won’t be popular with some Pogacar must stay upright given the summer ahead as sadly (due to others misfortunes) a legendary 2024 season looks possible for Pogi!!!
Pulling for Ben Healy (EF). He has seemed to be wanting to mix things up recently and EF is having a really good year. On the women's race, I am with Benji, Niewiadoma for the back-to-back wins.
Keep that kind of thing to yourself Shawn
The only question is whether Pog will announce where he will attack like he did at SB.....I will go with Stockeu.
Ahh, the Lanterne Rouge Energy Podcast! 🏭
I think MVDP was sandbagging in Amstel to go for the win at Luik
Pogi won
I will not take this slander of RvV’s aesthetics. Cold wet sidewalks is peak cycling.
Let's do this again... GO KASIA!! 🎉🎉
Unironically would listen to you guys talk about coal for hours
Ben Healy !!!
I think you guys are underselling MVDP in LBL. He was clearly not all guns blazing in Amstel. Mark my words he is going to monster LBL. It’s going to be him and Pog going at it.
Nah
It would be rather shocking if MvdP can keep up with Pogacar. Last year Pogacar beat him in Flanders on terrain much more suited to MvdP. LBL has climbs which are not cobbled, longer and more steady than the ones in Flanders. It seems unlikely that MvdP can stay with Pogacar on any climb in the latter half of the race if Pogacar chooses to attack.
au contraire, i think ur underselling pogi.
Come on guys mvdp has to win this after that i want to herr if he consideres lombardia in his career 😂.but honestly i think pogi will swap the race again
@stefanjoeres7149
Good post, and I agree with what you wrote. Pogi did beat Mathieu at the RVV with 16 seconds. Layer that year Mathieu took revenge and beat Pogi at the WC (271.1km, no cobbles, but with a fall) by 1:45 seconds. Pogi hasn't beaten anybody big in races of 250km or more. The biggest difference was 38 seconds in the AGR. The point I'm making is, that Pogi hasn't won any 250+km big, so if Mathieu somehow stays in his wheel. Things can be interesting. We'll find out Sunday, fingers 🤞for a safe races without incidents 👍🏻
Coal questions so Queensland. Here for it
Queensland (ers) - so passé. Big shout out to LR 😂
It would be nice if you could answer my question
I‘m from around Stockeu and it would be nice to know on what day they do the recon to see some riders maybe get some bidons or something
I heard they are test riding the finale tomorrow (Friday) but I don't know when.
MVDP is second because there are no other riders on the startlist that can beat Pogi on any race profile. At least MVDP can beat him, although of course it is still a stretch to say that he can do so here. He will have to be a better MVDP than ever, but he probably is. For the first time he has had a complete winter in Spain preparing for the road season, and he has been climbing a lot more as a result.
Amstel really didnot mean much imo, he did not care about winning it too much unless he ended up somewhere near the front after Keutenberg without doing too much.
would be cool if he does a pogi 2023 flanders
Because all the teams insist on all the clothing being aero, it was so difficult to put the stuff on especially when cold anyone who wasn't properly dressed was buggered.
The last time i remember seeing a rider struggling and seriously affecting their race was Wilco Kelderman in the Giro 2020 when he could get on his jacket because it was like a second skin!
Hope UAE doesn't fail in launching Pogacar like they did in MSR.
Williams put in a tremendous effort to win Flèche and it'll take a week for him to fully recover.
Why did Benji pick Tommy Voeckler to win?
worried about Cote de la Roche-Aux-Faucons for MVDP here, i think he'll be fine for that 1 big effort on redoute but cooked after that
he'll be 4 mins behind Pogacar before that climb already anyway lol
what a depressing day, thank you guys for saving it
Are you still sad about OJ?
@@HkFinn83 OJ?
@@Lion-wd1px I mean, why are you depressed?
@@HkFinn83 the problem of this particular case is caused by a girl, but actually I am sometimes more or less depressed, it never goes really away but cycling is good medication. Thanks for being concerned brother :)
I expect Pogi attacking quite early... the later the bigger the risk Mathieu could follow him, which I hope for, but definitive advantages for Pogi here IMO
lets hope he can follow
maybe kopecky is focusing on olympic track this year, so her long climbing and TT (paris-roubaix) is better, but her punch is reduced
Pogacar won't attack before La Redoute, the downhill towards La Redoute is a big road where the peloton has a big advantage.
The only way to make the last hour watchable is to bet each way on a couple of guys with long odds. I’ve got Vlasov and Bernal at 66/1 each. Tadej will ride the last 40km alone.
What is metallurgic coal LR?
It's used in the making of Coke a cola
I think the Trek and Canyon teams are strong but V none of their riders come anywhere close to tye top 3 riders, so I doubt they will have much of an impact. V Anrooij was closest in cobble classics but I do not expect here, Realini will have little impact even if she is close to the head of the race. Paladin, Chabbey, Bauernfeind are good riders but no one will fear them even if they go early and take a two minute lead. I”d say looking at Flèche Rooijakkers is not a bad bet.
I know I am going to get punished for saying this but Almeida has won LBL U23, he has done twice second places on Giro del'Emilia and 4th in a mountain Milano-Torino beating Pog in a sprint so he is not useless in one day races. However he is a different rider now and between weather and working for Pog I don't think he will top 20 this race. The other thing is that he said he wanted to try more one day races hence his presence in the Ardennes which I suspect it could be to improve his positioning for the races that do matter to him more. I think working for Pog is helping him better that aquilles heel of his like we saw in Cataluña.
MVDP needs to go early on Soie
Pogacar attacking early could be countered this time with MVDP and Pidcock descending and relaying back. That still doesn’t mean Pogacar doesn’t win!
Benji the meme monster:
The gates have opened (Kasia).
The road will decide.
7:25 Almeda wins giro 2023 stage in super rainy conditions
Almeida = new Geraint Thomas confirmed?
that's marc soler - brother from another mother.
Liege, Pogacar, Liege!!!!
If it’s cold, bet the house on Pog, it’s free money🤣
marta cavalli
LOL. "By the French border..."
Charleroi is a coal area
MVDP
SDW don't have the 'mental game' anymore.
Seriously? No top 10 for MvdP? Hope you're wrong haha ;)
Unless Pogacar crashes, the rest of 2024 is gonna be a snoozer. 🤞
Women's LBL gonna be fire 🔥
We sit on our tailbone.
Ischial tuberosities
Always love the banter. But, the analysis always contains a lot of “ifs.. and thens..”😊
I don't think Pogi has the best team Sunday
skjelmose ever since worlds last year on such explosive route I think this really suits him he may stay with Pog longest and while he maybe overtaken by VDP before finish bt I think he poses biggest competition to Tadej on route. Again Pid might come back on descents but he has hard time with pogs power. Tadej loes to go around 50 and two sharp climbs their before redoutte and before cote de roch where he could attack anyone still with him and I think sjelmose might be..enjoy race
he caught hypothermia in fleche i don’t know how good he’s gonna be feeling
Hmmm…Demi seems to be hated on by the masses…if she isn’t the devil feeling sorry for her
First!
🥇
We all knows how this will end.. POGI will make mincemeat out of them…
Most boring classics season except for flèche w :(
MvdP winning LBL would be the same as Pogi winning with 10 to 15 kg extra weight on his back. I'm rooting for Wout Poels.
Pogi to win 120km solo
Boring race ahead! Let's hope we get something better
I don’t believe you guys mentioned Sarah Gigante ? ☝️🤷♂️🚵🏼♀️
