Let’s not forget, before this beat down he laid to Tony he asked Cap’s ghost if he wanted revenge. Meaning if he wanted him to kill Tony and the others who was responsible. He respected Cap, more so than Tony, and if cap’s ghost had said yes he would have done it without question. Tony did not understand that even though Thor was dead in the afterlife he watched the world of man. He saw friends and allies hunted down and imprisoned , his trust violated by Tony by creating his own version of him and the death of a mortal that Thor has the highest respect and admiration for in Captain America. Tony hadn't realized that the few bouts he had with Thor that Thor was merciful but without such mercy he has about as much chance as a nail beating a hammer. Tony's lucky that Thor didn't kill him.

Civil War was a crowning achievement for Marvel, but also had lasting repercussions to this day, and not all of them good. Tony basically had to be retconned for anyone to even engage him as a friend again, Spider-Man is STILL screwed up to this point I think because of One More Day. A lot of Civil War was basically swept under the rug, though nowhere near as bad as Civil War 2, where some of that was forgiven in one panel's worth of dialogue.

Tony had this coming for a long time. He has always had a supreme arrogance to him, regardless of if hes an international weapons dealer or a super hero, he always has that arrogance, that hubris to him, that only his way is better.
Tony is a futurist, believing in advancing everything forward with technology is the best way forward, but his hubris prevents him from living in the here and now.
Characters like him and Reed Richard's are so supremely intelligent, but that comes with a price of a more lack of empathy. When they are so set in their ideals, they look at emotional bonds and caring for others as a secondary aspect, something that's very important in making the right decisions

I think there's something beautiful in how humble Thor is to the regular Joe right before he demonstrates his superiority to Tony.
He doesn't condescend, or defend himself or in any way demean the man. He takes everything he says seriously, and you can see the empathy in his eyes for the pain of the man's existence.
Sure, I loved watching Thor beat the tar out of Iron Man as much as the next guy, but I'm glad you included the proceeding scene, because it gives it so much more weight.
Thor doesn't respect Iron Man despite his incredible power... for a mortal at least, because of his delusions of godhead and superiority and godhood, but he respects an ordinary man because DESPITE his complete lack of power and knowledge of that fact, he will clearly even stand up to a God of Thunder to protect what's important to him.
It shows that while Thor is a God and deserves to be called such, he never lost sight of the plight of mortality, or respect for those who struggle to fight it well.

In the “DISASSEMBLE” story line for Thor; He reset the Ragnarok cycle that was put in place by “those that live in shadow” or the “gods” of the gods. Since each cycle made the Asgardians and the Aesar weaker with each revolution the Thor we grew up with was the weakest of Thors. Now since the cycle has been removed everyone in the Asgardian mythos returned to their original power scale. Which would dwarf any previous iterations of any of those characters. So THIS Thor is not only more powerful but also has the OdinForce on top of his world busting power. Is to equate him to any of the higher end celestial power houses. In truth Thor showed an enormous amount of restraint.

Tony Stark is portrayed quite differently in the movies by RDJ than he was in the comics. Many don't realize that. Now they've changed him a bit, but he was very arrogant, a complete a-hole and almost bordering on villainous sometimes.
He'd always showcase his "power" by using the ones who were truly powerful, Sentry, Thor, Hulk, etc.
Remember when he ordered Sentry to just rip off Doctor Doom's mask? And Sentry just went through the shields of Dr. Doom and man-handled him?
Tony then asked Doom "Do you acknowledge my authority now?". No, he acknowledged Sentry's authority, you egomaniac! Not many can break through Doom's shields BTW.
That's why Iron Man was never the face of Marvel. Hulk, Spider-Man, Thor were, until RDJ showed up. This little segment proves that Stark will never understand true power and yet he has always toyed with it, without having it. Same goes for Fury and the whole SHIELD too.
BTW, doesn't Siege happen after this? Or does it happen before?

My all-time favorite Thor comic book moment. EVER ! And, started reading the comic in the 60s 😊. Marvel consistently finds a way to make this character less than what he is. The issue this fight is from, is full of instances where Thor is truly the God of Thunder. As I read it, I said, " About damned time."

After all, for all of our power, we can't console their trama." "It pains me to say this, but this past few months has been hard for everyone, someone died, the people in their grief used the power of Uncle Sam to pigeonhole us heroes into a governmental hellhole, and... *Tony gets back up, coughing and wheezing
Tony: At... At least take a page from the old days and lift it in the air.
*Thor begrudgingly obeys this request by launching Asgard several miles into the air and levitating it in Earth's skyline, making Asgard (for a time at least) the crown jewel of America
Thor: I suggest you follow in the actions of an OLD friend of mine. And FLEE.
Thor: And be forewarned mortal, if I find out you did something as vexing as this again!!!!! I will not be as courteous as I am right now.
*Tony nods in agreement and flies off
*Thor jolted to see if his former adversary was going to counterattack
