I use legion go because it can literally be a work pc since I can remove the controllers and act as a tablet pc. (Instead of carrying a separate laptop)
It's not about which is better but which suits your needs more.
Same goes for those that prefer the steam deck, they just want a more gaming focused system, why would you judge them for that

I have both an LCD and OLED Steam Deck and love them both. I use the LCD docked to a T.V. which I use as a second PC that I can play/stream games on my couch and still get all the functionality of a PC. The OLED having the nicer brighter screen is my go-to travel companion.
My biggest positive for having the Steam Deck is Valve's software support. Almost anything run natively through Steam OS (games in your Steam library) either verified, partially verified, or even unsupported usually work great on the Deck with just minor configuration. It's rare that I run across a game I own on Steam that doesn't work and it's usually something to do with some third-party anti-cheat software or the like. Using the Deck with Steam OS just playing games from my library couldn't be easier. Valve also seem to be in it for the long haul and continue to update and improve their OS regularly.
The biggest negative I've had using the Steam Deck is setting up other things that were designed with Windows in mind. Things like 3rd party launchers or anti-cheat tools. Usually those require going into desktop mode, using 3rd party software, configuring some settings, and occasionally needing to do a bit of research. Now the Linux/Proton community is awesome, and very helpful, and the software used as a workaround to Windows is usually really good. However, there's always a chance that something gets updated, or needs to be reconfigured, or in some cases just won't work right. If you plan on getting a Steam Deck but want to play games you bought on GOG, or Epic, or EA, or UPlay etc., just know there are going to be a few extra steps besides just downloading and installing the launcher and not everything will work 100% right away.

Almost bought a Legion Go or Rog Ally, but I realised I have a 3070 PC so it doesn't make sense to go overboard for a console I'll just be using on the go, and at home, I can use remote play for better graphics and better battery life.

Another good point about sofware support for the steam deck, is that because it uses Linux, even if Valve stops directly supporting it (which I dont think they will). The community will continue with the support.
There are already alternative gaming distributions that support the steam deck out of the box, like Bazzite Linux. Maintained by people completely separated from Valve.
And since proton is open source, people will continue patching and improving it even if it's abandoned by Valve.
The Linux community is in love with the Steam Deck, and a lot of Linux users are software developers (this is also why there are so many community tools), so it's safe to say that the system will be updated for a loooooong time.
That's another advantage of using Linux over Windows.

I have both and put Bazzite (SteamOS fork) on the Legion Go. The hardware is fully supported and all the features of SteamOS work on the Legion Go now only you get the increased resolution and horsepower of the Legion Go. Much better interface than Windows as you mentioned. The Steam Deck OLED still has better colours and much better battery life though. I love them both.

It is faster, cooler, protected, and looks awesome and is still cheaper than the Ally or Legion, and runs emulation like a dream as well as my steam library. You can dock it like a switch, and even add more storage on the dock using a thumbdrive or external hd, you can even turn it into a linux desktop pc or a media center this way. Also I think the ergonomics of the Deck(s) are much better, and even improved from LCD Deck to OLED Deck. And yes Steam OS is so much better suited for these handhelds. Every review I’ve seen or read is with someone that already has a pc or console. Would the rog ally or steam deck oled be a good device for first time gamers? I’ve been researching them for a month, but I’m still not sure if I should get one of them or go with a console. Money isn’t a problem. Sorry if this is a stupid question as well. @@eagle_rb_mmoomin_418I agree with that. But not being able to use a few apps is a bummer. Coming from a PC I will always prefer something windows based where you can install and play what you want. That is just an opinion.

If you add RAM, Storage and dual boot Windows, then the Steam Deck will be better than the Legion Go. All jokes aside, I own both but lean more towards the Legion Go because I’m able to play any game.

  • @BaldBadger

Larger screen and the power of the Z1 extreme is way better. My OLED collects dust since I got the Legion. Using the 8.8" screen to stream steam games from the desktop is amazing. I can play cyberpunk at 144hz with ray tracing and not even use the internal hardware. FSR frame generation being introduced is a game changer as well. We owe it all to the steam deck for such crazy innovation. If you are a PC gamer already looking for a handheld get a legion. If you are an indie Andy looking to play casually on the couch grab a deck. Great time to be a gamer either way.

I don't think there is any reason to Buy the steam over the legion, I changed the steamdeck for the legion go and I never regret, been able to install and run just everything, been able to emulate everything at max, download and install whatever You want without having to run the desktop mode, in addition, installing playnite it looks like a console, I was able to install silent hill directors cut easily , and on the steam I just never get to do so, or at least get it running + play warzone. Which steam can't.

Personally I want something closer to a hand held PC than just a dedicated gaming system. There's just more utility to the legion go to me.
People complain about the battery life but charges fast AF also. I plan on watching content probably more than game but when I do I still wanna easily. I use a VR so I'm use to finicky set ups but I highly doubt it's as bad as people say..... Also dude completely blows over the go get an hour but it's because it can be put up to 30w however it last almost just as long if you lower the legion go w down to the same as the steam deck.
