Hope you enjoyed this #DIYGasm episode of actively cooling your electronics so they last longer and run better. Just like you need to keep your PC cool with good airflow you really need to do that other devices in your house especially if they are in confined areas. My cable modem stopped locking up and needing to be reset every day after adding this fan to it and same for my networking router that was hanging about once a week before I actively cooled it. Thank you so much for watching my 3rd video I've uploaded this week rebooting the channel after a long break. This USB fan is one of my favorite cheap gadgets that really help's me out and I'm glad I could share it with you. I hope you're enjoying the new content and you get a chance to come to watch me LIVE on Twitch during the week with the link in video description or come hang out on Discord. If you have any questions about the fans just ask them below or research them with the link also in the video description.
That cup tho...its giving me an anxiety attack.
Also, welcome back?(!)
Glad your back!
I cut the lips off my Goldfish, it died. Thanks
Barnacules.

Sorry brother I'm not a patron but I've followed you for quite a while. Seeing that you're doing good and your family is happy makes me happy. Live well buddy đ
Only Jerry could talk for 13 minutes about a USB fan but he's also the only person who I'd watch for the full 13 minutes talk about a fan đ
Jerry is the type of guy who made a 10 minute vid about a USB fan
I sure am đ
I have the desktop version of these, they are great. I used to work in a call center and they were perfect because they never picked up on the phone. The desktop ones have a variable speed dial too. Well worth the money.
Happy to see you doing more videos. You look like you're much healthier, whatever you're doing keep it up!
Thanks man.
this is the kind of stuff that brought me to your channel and kept me here.
So, a guy on Amazon says that these fans use ~0.9 watt-hours of juice. Given that the Razer Blade Pro has a 70 Wh battery, assuming nothing else is drawing power, it can run the fan for ~77.7 hours. So, not quite years, but still a decently long time.
Daedalusspacegames yeah, I was off a bit đ€ thanks for whipping up some good math here and Iâll heart this comment đ
@@Barnacules Of course. Always have fun with little research projects like this, so I'm happy to put that together for you.
Do you mean 0.9 watts for the fan? Spot on though :)
@@josephcannon3938 You're right, that was a stupid mistake :P
Man I missed your style of making videos. Those high and low pitched voices crack me up every time! :))) Keep them videos coming!
very glad i stuck around to see and witness your rebirth very proud

The quality of these fans is...FANtastic! ba-dum-tish!
You blew it jk
Now I remember why I never unsubbed. You are a great reviewer. Glad your back. Hope you stay for long time.
Spec for fan is 5V/0.2A = 1W. 30000 mah = 30 Ah X 5V = 150 Wh. So should last 150 hours.
This is the highest estimate I've seen yet. #Winning
aren't those 30 Ah's rated on the battery? At 5 volts there will be less amp hours due to conversion losses.
@@Cheese_1337 Yes there will be small loses due to internal resistance and to other component. Probably closer to 140-150 hours with loses. But this also does not account for any battery degradation.
According to amazon.de's product page: 5 V (USB standard voltage) * 0.2 A = 1 W. The 30 Ah battery back has capacity of 450 Wh (5 V output). So, the fan would last 450 hours under optimal conditions and the smaller one could power the fan for about 25 hours. It's probably a little less than 450 or 25 hours, due to losses in voltage conversion etc. (18650 cells have nominal voltage of 3.6 V and max. about 4 to 4.2 V)
Plus you're blowing the WiFi signal further out.
XD !!!
The logic here is pretty remarkable and I can't seem to find any flaws with it đ€
@@Barnacules Ha! Hey man, if you ever want to come on my Houston radio show and geek out a bit, I'd love to have you. The end game is to inspire people to find and embrace their inner geek. Sometimes it's the only coping mechanism we got!
@@GeekTherapyRadio That sounds fantastic, you have a radio show? As in old school FM?
@@Barnacules Dude.......older.....AM baby. KPRC 950AM in Houston on iHeart. It's glorious. I nerd out on that fact alone. That I may be one of the last generations to broadcast traditionally (in addition to podcasts, etc of course)
These fans are indeed FANtastic!
Alright, the Razer Blade Pro has either a 70 or 99 Wh battery. An Amazon reviewer measured the current used as around 170 mA at 5 V, which totals to 0,85 W. Say we have an efficiency of 90% for the buck converter in the laptop, this gives us a 63 or 89,1 Wh of effective capacity at 5 V. That means that, depending on the model and given that the fan would be the only thing run by the laptop, you could expect about 74 or 105 hours of continuous fan-running off the Blade.
For the 30 000 mAh battery: they are rated at the nominal voltage of 3,7 V giving a total maximum capacity of 111 Wh. Say, again, we have a 90% efficiency in the boost converter, we have an effective capacity of 99,9 Wh, giving us an estimated runtime of about 117 and a half hours.
64bittinen so far most people are saying 74-100 hours so I think weâre narrowing into the ballpark! Thank you.
Man your power bill must be crazy!
Starts then stops starts then stops Starts then stops. Cmon man be consistent, I know you might be having problems but you have good fans to support you!

Iâm super glad youâre back Jerry! Thanks for making such good content
Thank you so much!
its great to have you back here on youtube.
had one of those since like 2014 or 15, no noticable degration over time and the bending part is as stiff as ever (ladys). i used them to cool my room, they get a good airflow in a room if placed stategigly (one of those). its not as quiet as a regular pc fan, but more quiet than any other usb fan i ever had, they are made by arctic and u can hear and feel that. at the moment i plug it in my mainboard whenever i load into a game to cool the back of my gfx card. i think they take 300ma, my powerbank with 20000mah ran it 34-38h. my 85yo grandma bought one and a powerbank when i showed it to her, and in the summer she takes it everywhere she goes.
According to producer specification, fan consumes 200 mA per hour. This means, 10000mAh power bank will theoretically power it about 50 hour. In real life i will count with 45hours.
Barnacules glad to have you back bud.
It's great to see you back on CZcams creating content! Love your videos, and can't wait to have you in my regular feed more!

The Fan runs on 5V .2A so 1Watt.
The Razer Blade Pro has either a 70Wh or 99 Wh battery
Depending on the configuration of the laptop and battery health, it can run for 3-4 days
YES! This is the content we want! This is why I subscribed to this channel. Codegasm next?

And so great to see you making videos again. Really missed these useful fun videos:)
Glad to see you back man. I like the inexpensive product reviews.
Anyone remember the OG USB bitcoin miners? People used to buy USB extenders with 14 plugs, 4 fans and 10 miners
Haha I totally forgot about those! Kinda want to buy a few and mess with it again.
@@smileyguyz I mean you will definitely lose money but it's fun to mess with. Good ol' days
Give or take a 30k mAh should keep it running about 6-10 days. This is dependent strongly on the efficiency and age of the battery pack, the power leakage of pack and fan and the resistance of the wiring used on the fan and battery pack. The fan tech sheet says it runs on 0.2 amps but that is the rating of just motor. My calculations are based on the efficiency of the best and worst power pack I have data sheets on. On a brand new pack with high efficiency it could be as high as 45 days but that would be a marginal case. It is safe to say an average of 6-10 days non-stop.
Thanks for the info, I should just charge it up then put a fan on it set it on my desk and run a stop watch.
Glad to see you're looking and feeling better, and that you're posting more vids! Your sound effects always crack me up! đ
"Goldfish is probably okay." ROFL I loved this video Jerry! You know you're talented when you can make an entertaining video about USB fans. Keep up the great work!
I feel like the old Jerry is back. Nice to see the videos like this again đ
I mean, 10 bucks is not THAT cheap, specailly since you can get similar products for like 2 bucks. HOWEVER, these seem to be of very high quality, so it's probably wortth it. I'd also advice people who want one for silently cool your face in your desk or booth to check boothjunkie's video on a usb fan (a more stationary one) that's dead silent for the amount of wind it blows, great for streamers or in general audio sensitive situations.
They are cheap....
@Cristian I just want to share my humble opinion just as an information. $10 is not that cheap? It's definitely more expensive outside of the U.S. Life in the U.S. is so easy and U.S. citizens are still complaining about the prices. Try to buy something in other countries as a citizen of that countries - you will be surprised. The ratio of the purchasing power of earned money to the price of goods is most favorable in the U.S.
its great to see you this often! I dont have the creativity to come up with such solutions. Great ideas
A fan like this pointed on my keyboard and mouse, this is actually a very good idea! Thank you! Please make more of these videos!
Love seeing you doing videos again bud!
Assuming you have the top model Razer blade pro, with a 99Wh battery and the fan drawing 0.2 A @ 5 V, it will last 99 hours (4.1 days). Not quite a month, but pretty long
after watching you using this usb videos a bought 2 of them, one for my router and other in the back of my tv,... they are amazing
So happy to see you back on!
This video blew me away
Waiting for Linus to use these as case fans... which would be awesome btw.
It's awesome seeing your new videos! Great to see you back!
Never enjoyed a video about a fan as much as I have watching this video! Keep up the good work!!!
if you put enough fans on that laptop, u might be able to turn it into a drone...
I cracked my brain when you immitated a cheap pc fan at 10:51
I just watched your videos in a few years and I am getting pretty nostalgic.
Like dah man said, it's FANtastic!
Glad to see you are more on CZcams again!
I have one of these and they're great. Using it through a USB power meter, it uses around 1 Watt, so whatever the W/h rating, that many hours. For that particular laptop, it has a 99Wh battery, so 99 hours. It does fluctuate randomly from 1W to 2W (on my meter) very briefly, but for simplicity sake, lets say 1W/h for this fan.
Correction it fluctuates from 1W to 1.46W (not 2).
Congrats on the weight lost Jerry, looking good! , nice to see u bk in here making video.Edit: if you like those fans so much , Contact the distributor and sell them on your site.
Its great to have you back
If you live in a humid location you could put one under your cabinets angled so that they move the air from the back so that you don't get mold on your walls behind the cabinets.
Careful to not spin it backwards, as most don't have reverse current protection and you can take out one or more ports. Common issue with the portable ones that plug into phones.
Aaron Somers this is fantastic info! Maybe it would be a cool experiment to hook it to a multimeter and wind it up. If it generates current perhaps I could swap the positive and negative and use it to charge a phone with a leaf blower đ
@@Barnacules that sounds like a bunch of fun! Maybe connect it to a power drill and kill some old stuff!
@@Barnacules also, in thinking about it, simply holding the fan in place should be the issue, as it will attempt to pull current that the port can not supply. So the backwards spinning may not actually be valid.
Aaron Somers Iâve stopped these fans with my hands hundreds of times with no damage so Iâm pretty sure they have some protections.
Aaron Somers oh god power drill would be funny. Or a Dremel at 30k rpm đ
oh that's so bloody smart my router used to overheat in the attic but i used a 12v plug with my fans could have bought those
Looking good man!!! Glad to see you back on the CZcams.
Man, it's awesome to have you back!
Got one of these after this video as my laptops keyboard gets extremely hot when running intense games, now it not only stays cool, but actually cold to the touch, much better than typing with sweaty hands on a hot keyboard.
Edit: also the fans are just as quiet as you said they are, I had fans like this before that made noise so I figured I knew it had to make more noise than you made them out to, but no, these are totally silent, so much so that it is almost absurd.
the fan consumes 5v 0.2A (1Wh), Razer Blade Pro says it has a battery that outputs 99Wh, so, with full battery can run it for 99 hours
There we go, thank you! #HeartedComment
@@Barnacules you're awesme btw, and the power bank with a battery of 30000mAh can run it for 150 hours
Congrats & it's great to be seeing your content frequently agian
the keyboard method is genius!!!!! finally that usb pass through on my k70 is handy
Oh my God I'm so interested in this $10 fan. I keep buying small fans and they keep dying two weeks later.
This one won't die on you, it has an amazing track record. I don't bullshit in my videos, all of my fans have been going for over a year and the ones in the networking closet get up to 80f in that room consistently.
Congrats on losing the 44 lb man
Finally a video on these! Good to see you back Jerry!
Good to see you back man, god bless you and your family.
It's amazing how many things locked up until he had this wonderful fan :-/
You'd be surprised how electronics react to heat specially passively cooled components.
Thanks for the advice! I'm now trying to evolve my goldfish evolve to breathe air by keeping it out of water incrementally longer periods. I'm starting to run low on funds, and goldfish arn't that expensive but they stubbornly refuse to evolve.
Dude, this is exactly what i have been looking for. I just ordered 2 for my network gear. Ty. Glad to see you back btw. Keep up the awesome videos coming.
Sold! Definitely going to buy a half dozen of these. Thanks for the recommendation.
I use one of these to blow air over my motherboard VRMs đ
Overheating is the Devil!
Going by the rated draw of 0.2 amps at 5v from the fan and given the razer blade pro has a 99wh battery at 11.4 volts, In a perfect world it should run for 98ish hours if nothing else is drawing power. Realistically with the rest of the system and inefficiencies in the voltage regulation I would guess significantly less time. 18-20 hours would be my guess .
This video actually helped a ton. Thank you for sharing this
Thank you for this so much. I have a four year old gaming laptop that I need to have a desk fan blowing over to keep cool and I think this would be perfect to keep it cool since Iâve got an extra USB port on the side.
in alaska they would be probably worth, because they could help move the warm air from stove :D
To save the boring math and reading, POWER BANK = 7.4 days and LAPTOP = 3.4 days (if my math is correct)
On the amazon page, one of the questions someone asked was how much power do the fans use. Some responded saying they measured about 168.5 mah which I assume for the power bank being a 30,000 mah bank, 30,000/168.5 = 178 hours or 7.4 days. As for the Razer Laptop, it has a 70wh battery. Using an online calculator and seeing from the amazon post that it draws 5.02v, that is about 13944 mah or 13944/168.5 =82.8 hours or 3.4 days. That calculation doesn't seem to add up in my opinion. I would assume the laptop would have a much larger battery then the power bank. So if I did everything correctly, 7.4 days with the power bank and 3.4 days with the laptop.
The power bank is over 100Wh
Thanks Barnacules. Another great video from a great human being!
thanks jerry just bought a couple of these..to cool..will find many uses,,,your the man..
I use them for the same reason :) Except I use generic versions that cost like $1 each. Maybe they wont last as long as the Arctic branded version and their arms aren't as good quality.
Please for the love of god send me a link on Twitter (@barnacules) because I want to buy 100 of them and make a giant USB wind tunnel đ
I just bought 4 of them for my Raspberry Pis.
