tfw your tweet just brought me here to watch this heh
Glad you cleaned it and kept it going
but the video was only posted 3 yearsnl ago? I just bought this one i hope its food it was $500 but I use may keep it fan speed 1

You didn't completely remove the old foam and that's gonna, that's gonna alter your R rating of your window ;)
TheRawGeek he also should have installed a fin on the ac blower to separate the intake so all of the cold air wont get sucked back out.

in the start of the video I was about to say it looks as if you lost all for weight, a few minutes join the video you said you lost 20 pounds, that's awesome keep up the good work and whatever your doing is working Jerry.
lost alot of*
+lihsor222 hope that the weight he lost is not water weight
A lot of it was water weight but now I'm losing the real weight, I'm down 22lb

Welcome to youtube!
You are the only man on earth who could possibly make this small project fun to watch. More please gooby!
I never thought watching someone install an air conditioning unit would be so entertaining :D
Wish this dude was my neighbor....mine suck ass
Why do you hope he will drop it out the window?
@@featheredcoyote5477 and his smell like shit..lol
Is that the new AMD ZEN desktop processor heat sink..:)
I wonder, can the low pressure side radiator (the one facing inside) can be used as a radiator for a liquid cooling system on a PC.
it needs the asbestos fan add on
+Razor2048 someone needs to try this.
+Razor2048 What you are looking for is a phase change cooler. Linus has a video on it. A air con might work but would need to have some substantial changes.
DragonRoco
I was thinking for standard liquid cooling, would it be possible to salvage a radiator from an air conditioner, and instead use it in a standard liquid cooling loop. If it is, then that may be a cheap way to get a large radiator.
While phase change is effective, it is also very expensive to run, as you may have a compressor pulling 500+ watts nonstop.
Don't worry guys, I plan to go buy a support for it in the next few days and install it. I don't want snow piling on top of it in the winter time and ripping the window out of my house :D I might also build an overhang to cover it just to keep it nicer.
No. Let it. We want to see what happens :)
You live in seattle. You don't even get snow. You get rain and fog in the winter. I know, I live an hour south of seattle.
I'm guessing you'll 3d print the support and overhang?
jerry, you're my diy hero....:) handled that airco......like a boss....
You know what I like about air conditioner, better overclocking.
Jerry, you're my inspiration, man, for DIY. I suck at a lot of DIY projects and I worry when I move next year from an apartment to a house I may still suck, but watching you kick ass installing that AC gave me the confidence that I can do it too. You're awesome!!
I love this series. Most of your videos are too techy for me to care but I LOVE watching your videos so it is nice to have non techy ones! Great job
All the HVAC guys are probably smacking their foreheads right now lmao
why? because they can't rip this guy off for thousands of dollars overcharging him for a simple installation?
@@rogerd4559 simple installation?
idk if newer A/C's have the same problem but you're not supposed to be flipping it and holding it upright and upside down xD because of the Freon inside.
good job nonetheless xD
Nope your right. It is because of the compressor on the inside
+adventureoflinkmk2 yeah your suppose to leave them upright so that you don't shift the oils and refrigerant. if the oils travel to the compressor lines the compressor will lock up.
yup, thats why they have that âŹïžon the side of the box xD good luck Jerry lol
You're right, they're not supposed to be rotated, even on their side can damage them if you power them on shortly after.. Should wait 12-24 hours after flipping a compressor before powering it up. Also, it's not Freon anymore, that shit's horribly toxic, all modern refrigerants are R-22 (being phased out) and R-410a based. Vehicles are R-134a, but may be transitioning to another, safer, refrigerant in the near future--though I'm not really sure about vehicles.
what u did right: being urself... those who do not like the video, just go watch something u like... looking forward to more vids. thumbs up!!
Hey Jerry I have struggled with weight issues nearly my entire life even had surgery when I was 16 yrs old. In the 30+ years since I have gained and lost the weight several times. As of now I'm managing to keep the weight off by no longer thinking of being on a diet but to instead to think of it as being a way of life. For what ever reason for me it takes very little bad food to start gaining weight again and lately, due to severe arthritis, I've also had to deal with a lack of activity making it even harder. Right now I'm trying to focus whatever time, energy and money I do have into my first custom watercooling loop build, being on disability does make it difficult but not impossible. I was inspired to do so by both Barancules Nerdgasm and JayzTwoCents because of our similar backgrounds so I thank you both and I believe you will achieve your goal but it's more important that you believe it.
Jerry, I won't lie, I watched this whole video waiting for the AC to fall to an untimely death.
How I feel when I install mine.
still trying to re-install mine but I'm getting weaker every year or the air conditioner is gaining more weight. Getting help from a neighbor is out of the question as they no longer answer their phone
As a German i can say: Your installation gives me nearly physical pain! ;)
you could say in Germany the AC cooling units might be 'gassy'.
IM DEAD
+Zaphron1999 like 6 mil jews?
Ya, well I put one of that type of Ac (much smaller though) in the wrong type of window (one that opens horizontally instead of vertically). With the acordeon sides it's too wide to fall out so I didn't even secure it using anything. Then I duct taped some cardboard to seal the window.
We have a broken central AC, but my mom doesn't want to fix it right now.
Looks like a pisspoor job though... :P
Jerry, I watched your UPS video right before this. I can already see a significant difference in how you look since you started losing weight. Good for you man. I'm trying to lose weight before my wedding next year, your progression and positive attitude is very encouraging for me. Thank you.
Four or five years later, I found your video. It is much better than the company video. We are using it to install today. Sorry to hear the AC only lasted four years. We just bought the LF dual inverter; not sure if itâs the same as yours. Hopefully ours will last a little longer. I am subscribing to your channel! Thanks.
Itâs been a solid unit.
Word of advice never flip the a/c unit upside down it will cause the compressor oil to go into the lines which is not good. No oil in the crankcase and your compressor will lock up. Keep up the good work!
I was thinking the same thing watching this. If the orientation of the unit changes, there should be AT LEAST a 2-3 hour wait time until power up.
Jim GoPro if your shaking it yeah but it isn't going to hurt that much
@@SuperHaunts never had an issue with any of mine 1 minute rest seems more than enough
you forgot one thing jerry. that open cell foam was supposed to go in the top part of the window opening. now that you lifted the bottom pane of glass there is a gap at its top end that will keep letting hot air in.
+Indrejue lol, good thing I've got more, I'll stuff it in there!
My apartment has 2 window air conditioners in double hung windows and I had the same problem. I just bought weather striping foam for doors and layered that in the gap until it was closed. It made a big difference and has a very low profile.
My house had a giant hole cut in the wall for an AC. I bought this same model(but a size up) Barnacules is using here, and it fit like a glove, and I pulled my back out cause the hole is 5 foot high xD Great AC, this is its second summer. Still silent and could freeze out an eskimo.
Mine was 18,000 BTU, LW1815ER. I live in the south, and that air conditioner cools a large area, so it needs to be the size of compact car to do the job :P
my window opens up inwards like a square glass door for dwarfs :(
Thanks for this video. My LG AC is much newer but also very large and I didn't know they slide out from the shell. Made it so easy.
"Remember, it's always best to be lazy." .....AND SUBSCRIBED,
very nice installation
Hey Jerry! Hope the My Fitness Pal tracking is going well. Stay strong, I believe in you!
Btw, I enjoy this on the fly quick cut video a lot more than some of the other "well produced" video. It was pretty entertaining haha!
someone probably already said it but a 1/4 inch socket fits a screwdriver bit like that perfectly! and the screwdriver that comes out of is a 1/4 nut drive perfect for some hose clamps.
CZcams algorithm; Iâve watched this video in past. I just watched when you fix your AC and just now, CZcams recommended this clip. Funny CZcams đ
turning an ac upside down is a bad thing. could have ruined the compressor. glad it was ok thow
That only applies when the ac has been upside down for an extended period. But you're right, you don't want to get into the habit of putting an ac upside down.
+Dirges yea thats what i meant. thanks
I was gonna comment the same thing, glad you got me covered.
That's what I was going to comment too. I didn't know it was only for longer periods of time... Why is that? Beside, I think he could have been more gentle with this whole installation thing!
"Why is that?"
It is due to the oil's viscosity.
10:00 - I put all 3 screws in mine because it scared me how heavy it is. (aka the other 2 holes)
I thought about putting all 3 in but that one giant long screw isn't gonna pull out so I was like 'meh...' :D
I like to screw all 3 holes too!! YOOOWWW ;D
+Barnacules Nerdgasm You should of put them because you're right it will hold, but over time because of how wood is(expanding/contracting) after a while? That would of taken you an extra minute with your drill them to insure the safety of your investment.
You only need one if you do the smart thing and put a washer in between the screw and the window frame
Don't give up on the diet, as you claim you will not my friend. I believe in you, this random, internet stranger, is rooting for your continued success.
You're doing great installing it.. What a massive AC !
On the back bottom corner its always good to cut a tab 6-10inches long and bend it down so the water can drain out easier, the factory drain hole just plain sucks.
You don't want all the water to drain out of the A/C unit as that is what is used to keep the humidity at around 40% which is the suggested norm for breathing.
Where did you get that information, Units I"ve had always drain completely.
Nope....Never a good idea to cut extra drainage holes...If mounted correctly the water will never end up in your room and the water on most newer designs uses the fan to splash it on the compressor to keep it cooler and running more efficiently.
Wish we could get those types of air conditioners in the UK, our window frames aren't that big. :(
We need the weather first, the free standing units are fine!
Didn't you guys have a heat wave a few years ago where the temp went to 85 degrees and like a million people died?
+Joe Mellon wtf are you talkin about?
+Joe Mellon Obviously troll

Indeed, it was so hot last week, I had to take my coat off!
I have the same unit I need to install through a wall opening for my Mom. I like your approach and humor!
OMG Cant thank you enough for this video !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just pulled that rubber piece off the window and was then able to get the air conditioner to fit.....A BIG HUGE THANK YOU!!!!!

I for one love this series :)
I searched for a video that would provide information on the specific A/C unit I intend to purchase and could not find it. Additionally, they were short on "real-world" installation challenges. Yours was just what I needed on both counts. Plus, I'll be installing in a second floor window, as you did. Thanks for the informative, entertaining demonstration. Now I can proceed with confidence. Looking forward to more of your helpful movies! Great job !!
At first glance I bounced to another install video but came back and definitely worth it! haha.. Barnacules be funny AF!

#WhyDoesItSmellLikeShitInHere?
LMAO!!
also good job on the diet
condenser and evaporator is the words you were looking for Jerry, but Damn good job! His conditioner has WINGS
Best video ever. No assembly required...
Your video content is good. just curb the high and low pitch voice stuff. It just makes the videos feel less professional. Silly is cool, but i feel you over do it a lot.
no thats part of his charm
like i said, some is okay. but sometimes he does it a lot more than necessary. this one wasnt bad
Nah, I like doing it. That is why I do it :P
+Barnacules Nerdgasm Of course you like to do it or it wouldn't be so regular. I'm just giving incite from an outside prospective. I only watch one or two every couple weeks, so nowhere near full content consumption. Just to myself and from what I've seen from others, it makes the production quality down as a whole. Still enjoy the information.
Hell there are 1000's of videos on how to put an A/C on a window. If I wanted a "professional" take i would watch this. I mean a 17 minute video on something its explained on the instructions that comes with the A/C no reason to watch other than for Jerry . I laughed a few times which is great, Good Job Jerry, a lazy job well done XD
I didn't know you had a Linus Bathroom. ;)
I actually enjoyed the camera you used, to me it just seemed very "real" in a sense. Not like you're trying to make a traditional DIY like some people do. It had it's own originality i liked it
as a handyman I can say there were a few things you did right but loads of things wrong. but I still enjoyed the vid very entertaining and look foward to watching more.
When you tip air conditioners over they need a bit of time before the refrigerant is settled. Remember the refrigerant also carries the lubrication for the compressor. Give it like 12 hours before you turn it on if you don't want to risk damage to your new unit.
Yeah, because if its upside down and then you install it and turn it on right away, the oils viscosity may cause a leak and will damage the ozone...
KEEP IT UPRIGHT FOLKS!
NEVER tilt your AC or basically anything that has a compressor in it. They are suppose to always stay upright
Unless it has fried
The dumbass delivery guy that delivered mine left it sitting on it's side...
it's okay man not everybody super handy around the house. we still love you anyhow
This is the video that gives me confidence to try this myself
Well, Jerry, you did it completely wrong! The first thing you do after opening the box is take the manual and throw it out the window. I am really disappointed! At least i was until you ignored what the bad yellow paper was telling you and used a drill anyway. Who's a good boy, yes you are, yes you are. *pat* *pat* *pat* I am not judging, i also like having my belly scratched.
that's quite loud actually. why doesn't US do split yet?
some people do have split ac units for some situations retrofits but its more common for houses build here to have ac/ heating ducting build into the house and central air/heating systems tend to be cheaper than whole house split systems and central ac is less noticeable than split units
what is a split ac unit? is it the ac with a big fan outside the room and another one that is inside the room
nope split ACs are relatively rare in the US(personal experience) however they are no where near as popular as in India because most US houses have central heating and in Chicago(IDK about other places) you don't need a AC but you sure af need heat.
M Isa yup. The internal unit is small fan and front part. All the business is in a outdoor unit away from the room. I have Hitachi's at my home and this is a Jet engine compared to mine. I have an older model which this one replaces: www.hitachi-hli.com/productdetail/Kashikoi-3200i
Rounak Duttaâ well they certainly exist in US as I have seen some while there but I don't understand why they are so rare. It's a lot quiter and in my experience, easier to maintain compared to window.
Hey just wanted to say this is the first video of yours I've watched in a couple months, I've been busy. But just wanted to let you know I can see the difference in your appearance already, your diet is working buddy, very happy for you, and I loved the video we think a lot alike when it comes to DIY lol, cheers!

Well after watching you gave me enough courage to install this myself...AND I DID IT didn't have room for the bracket but I did screw it into the window ledge on the inside ... I had to turn it up I got cold!! Love this thing already!!
great work, entertaining and instructional. I will say, DIYgasms must be the only kind of gasms this guy is having hahah. nice vid
American houses are so badly insulated compared to european ones.
Yes it's pathetic
+PC Master Race Not my house buddy... Custom built it myself, and didn't spare a detail! I do agree that there's many houses that aren't well insulated when built ;)
My house has no insulation at all
What does that have to do with the video? The heat is coming from inside the room.
i think most of usa is warmer than europe ,thats why european houses r steel wood and block/brick construction with double of triple glazed UPC windows
my life is pathetic for watching this video. I don't even need an ac in my apartment...
I love watching youtubers do the quick diy project updates. Keep DIYGasm coming!
Just for reference, pulling that thing up the stairs with that jerking motion while bent at the
waist is a good way to end up with a bulging disc or two in the lumbar back.
Next time, lay it on its longer side angled along the leading edge of the stair
and push it up from behind using your legs, which allows the back to stay
straighter and reduces the jerking motion you got at each step, just sayin'
Anytime you have a choice in moving something between the back bending
in the forward direction at the waist (i.e. flexion, like how we sit in chairs) or in the
backward (i.e. extention) direction, usually the latter is best since most
people already have too much flexion in their lives from sitting all the time
and extention relieves pressure, along with vertical (like inversion table, etc).
For a big man its especially dangerous to lift/move heavy stuff while bent
forward. Entertaining video though nonetheless, cheers.
jerry loved this video little bits of humor had me rolling.. keep them comming ill watch all of them
One of your first videos I've watched till the end. It's was so interesting.

Thanks for the great video. I just bought an LG 12,000 BTU LW1217ERSM and wanted to learn from someone else's pain before attempting the install myself. I chose LG for the quietness, it never dawned on me that it would die quickly. Only 4 years huh? I had a 12k air conditioner I bought at Lechmere that was still working when I sold my house in 2015.
