- Velocity RC Cars Magazine Review of the Tamiya Monster Beetle 2015 Re-release. Do you remember 1986? Top Gun, Nintendo, and some other junk that nobody cares about! The Tamiya Monster Beetle was a version of the Black Foot that put a hard plastic Beetle body on the ladder frame chassis.
Our full review can be found in Velocity RC Cars Magazine #19. Words, video, pictures...it's all in there. The world's best selling digital-only RC Magazine.

I can't describe my infatuation with the Monster Beetle. It's irrational. I loved it as a prepubescent boy and I love it again as a 47 year old man-child. I just got my rerelease from Amain about a week or so ago. I opened the cardboard box and was instantly 12 years old again. I owned the OG version back in 86 or 87 then sold it after I got a "real rc car" (Schumacher CAT XLS) and forgot about this gem. I sold it to friend who moved out of state and never thought I'd see another one again. Thank You Tamiya for making this again. I'm giddy! I'm going to do a custom paint job inspired by some VW racing livery and mod it out with aftermarket upgrades like I always wanted to when I was a kid.
Great video and you got a new subscriber.
WOW awesome I used to have a bunch of these old vintage Tamiya cars my favourites are: the boomerange, The grasshopper a old yellow beetle a old used red monster beetle any ways nice video and thanks for reminding me about my old tamiya cars
Good video on the beetle. I just bought a hornet kit. These old rc cars bring back great childhood memories.
Thumbs up bro nothing like the old school cars man a blast from the past
Totally brilliant review of my most favourite POS from shizuoka ever! Love it! Thank you!!!
I really enjoy your videos, great commentary!! I had a Monster Beetle in the late 80s, and inherited my dad's 86 Lincoln MkVII LSC as a first car. And it was cool 😀.
Great narration.....brought back memories
Loved this video! I just reviewed it as well. I think you done a lot better job at capturing the spirit of it tho! It's hard to explain why we love stuff like this, the Lunch Box and the ClodBuster. Especially when it's sitting beside our 1/8 Race Buggies! LOL, But It has a place in our memories and always will! Thanks for the great video, Subscribed!
I rebuilt one of these a while back, one of the originals that is. It even had one of the rare thorp ball diffs in it!
+RcFrenzy The only way to stop buying 101 sets of axles back in the day!
My dad tells me about this all the time lmao
Great narration. Great slomo's, good stuff
I'm waiting on my tamiya konghead and so excited!!

When I was a kid I begged my Dad to buy me a second hand M.B with a technigold off my wee mates big brother, but £120 for a second hand R/C was never gonna happen, got a radio shack black phantom (cool car) instead, but always hankered after a tamiya monster beetle, I'm 37 now, sod it, I'm gettin one!
There is a new Top gun and it's apparently ausome
My dad had a Mark VII it was a great car
i was 6 and my gears blew out in 2 minutes,,it was christmas morning,,,my dad felt so bad ...i thought i put it together wrong thanks for clearing that up,
Same colour with my monster beetle
this was the first RC i saw on a advertising. i could never afford it.... 30 years later, i make 20 feet high jumps with a better RC ! so the waiting was worth it !!
Karate Kid II was almost as epic as part one. And...Kobra Kai. Nice Tamiya.
Great Vid! got some laffs... and yes.86?..suuucked! lol.. But yanno,as Anemic as this model is Stock,it can be upgraded nicely some 30 years later..I dig the 2 that I own.
My first rc was a Blackfoot still have it
that was my very first true r/c car
thanks
Hi! What shade of yellow is this?
Monster Beetle, Blackfoot and don't forget the 3rd one with a Subaru Brat body, I forgot the name of it. *(edit - Mud Blaster)
My dad had a Lincoln Mark IIV 🤣🤣🤣 it was a great car
DJ Finesse seven is VII ...
Where was this filmed at? Great narration.....brought back memories (the narration, not the car)! Lol
+The RCNetwork Our painters backyard track.
It acts like a real monster truck!!!!!
we all know the short future of the side mirrors 😅
Ground mirrors
The front wheel alignment is out, no wonder you having issues with it "driving funny", plus this must be the slowest MB I have ever seen, it would easily clear those jumps driven correctly. While some of the narration is quite funny, the original hex shafts lasted a lot longer than a few seconds I still have my original hex shafts from 30 year ago. It's about how hard you drive anything.
Andy Dainty I see you live Tamiya. The original hexes are junk and that’s why they don’t use them.
It’s just not a race car so it’s not clearing jumps 👍
Andy Dainty slowest because they are testing it out of the box, the way you’re supposed to build the kit.
Its not a video about a modified Monster Beetle SMH
👏🏻👏🏻
No its no for the 14 year olds ,its for us older chaps who now have some cash , 86 was my year last year of high school WHOOPY
I still have mine ..........................thinking about resurrecting it.
