This Tamiya Monster Beetle was a welcomed gift for me on Christmas Eve 2015. So I am quite pleased at presenting the final build footage and result on the day before Christmas 2016. Hope you will enjoy! I certainly enjoyed building it! Many more Monster Beetle videos to come.

Disclaimer: For the keen eyed and experienced Tamiya Monster Beetle enthusiast one mistake can be observed. First I forgot the front piece and then I installed it the wrong way at 0:41. It can be seen in the correct position from 1:19 and onwards.

Nordic RC Visions Statement:
This video features homemade footage of my own radio-controlled unit, the Tamiya Monster Beetle 2015 /Tamiya 58618), from my personal RC model collection. All rights reserved.
I love build this models but you show proper review and building thanks
Thank you again, Aaryan!
Ok your my friend
So much nostalgia, I built my first in 1992...good memories..
Nice! The original. Yeah, it’s a great build. Thanks a lot for sharing.
I just love that adorable bug! One of my favourites Tamiya models ever!
Definitely one of my favorites too :-) Thanks for watching.
My favourite Tamiya of all time,I had one back in 1986 when she was first released,I waited all these years for them to re-issue it,my wife bought me it for Christmas last year,I've built the chassis just got to paint the shell,so your video on how you painted yours is great to watch,i hope they bring the Falcon back, always regret never picking one of those up! 😣great video, thanks for sharing.
Jason Labross Hey Jason. In 1986 I had a Nikko Turbo Panther. Loved it and still do, but can't even imagine how it must have been to be able to run a Monster Beetle back then. Must have been great! Good you own one again now, must bring back memories once you get the body on. I also got this on Christmas Eve from the Mrs. last year :-)
Jason Labross Yeah, the Falcon. Restoring one at the moment. I like the Falcon Stadium Trucks even more. Especially the Stadium Thunder.
Nordic RC Visions yeah I was on top of the world owning a monster beetle back then but it was also very frustrating that the dog bone drive shafts kept filing themselves down because they couldn't take the strain when running it,but if you was lucky enough for them not to do that it was the diff in the gearbox that shattered,I can't count how many times I went to buy diff parts and new drive shafts every two weeks from my local hobby store? owning one back then was a love or hate relationship, but for some crazy reason I loved it,a lot of kids back then changed the wheels for the same ones used on the Midnight pumpkin/ Lunchbox,it did seem to take a lot of strain off the gearbox but in the end you would still lose the battle lol,are you going to run yours or is she going to be a shelf queen? 😊
+Jason Labross Yeah, I've heard a lot if stories about the hard times running the original back then. Would love to own a shelf queen, but I know I want to run it :-) The MB 2015 comes with the universal shafts now. And I've preordered the new MIP ball differential. So hopefully those days from the 1980s are over :-) Still need to fix some wobble that the universal drive shafts causes though. New Monster Beetle problems :-)
There's many (although a bit pricey) upgrades for this vehicle and others like it (Blackfoot, Mud Blaster, Subaru Brat, Frog). You can convert to a double-wishbone rear suspension with a more solid chassis, more skid plates, a centered servo mount- all 3-D printed parts. Check out the videos here on CZcams if you haven't done so already from Ampro Engineering-the same guy who worked with MIP to make that ball diff a reality. I'm so tempted to buy those many upgrades for my Subaru Brat kit-but money is always an issue.
Great job with the build! I just recently got my Tamiya Subaru Brat running again after being parked for over 25 years. I bought it and built it in 1984. I am having just as much fun with it now as I did then when I was 14 years old. I plan on posting a video soon. Enjoyed the video! -Glen
Nice! In the 1970/1980s I didn’t even know Tamiya existed, but I had fun with my Nikko/Taiyos. So this is my first ORV chassis. Would love a Brat some day. Such an iconic ORV too. Cool with the video. Sharing here on youtube is fun. Thanks for watching, Glen!
Der Monster Käfer war mein erstes RC Auto. Das ist 30 Jahre her.
Und ER ist Kult! 😆
Cool that you had the original back then! This is my first taste of the Monster :-) Thanks for watching!
Just finished building my Monster Beetle what a awesome build and good value for money. A more challenging build than the sand scorcher. The plastic parts of the monster beetle are really tough and flexible.
Congrats! Yeah it was a very fun build. And I agree, good value for the money with that beautiful hard body and everything. Thanks for watching, bro.
Sin duda este modelo debe estar entre los 10 mejores autos rc del mundo
Beautiful, simply beautiful! I love the look of the Monder Beetle! These Tamiya kits were amazing because when done up right they were more than just a low detailed shell on an RC chassis but a really nice looking scale model. Well done! I hope to get one for myself soon!
SDFcommander Yeah love it too. Making the body was like making a Scale body for a static model. Thanks for watching, commander.
My dad's just brought over his 1987 beetle for me to get working again. Hasn't worked in 27 years, since my cousin smashed it into the side of the house bk when we were kids.
Nice! Hope you’ll get it running again. A fine and worthy project.
Cool build, I've wanted one for the longest time. This just screams Tamiya lol
Thanks! Yeah, it’s incredible Tamiya’ish this one :-)
Chulisimo!!!
that's going to be FUN!!
shenlonco Gonna be great to see it run! Looking forward to it. Thanks for watching, Steve.
looking good!
WolfJetGames-AlmostEveryThing Thanks! Gonna be great running it.
So Cool!
Great Movie!
Asplenia.
+asplenia Thanks! I know you like these classic Tamiya Monster Trucks too :-)
Monster Beetle 💚💚💚
Gotta love the Monster Bugs :-) Thanks a lot for watching, mo.
The Needle is the Blackfoot with a new body put on it.
Always your videos are amazing 👍👍👍
Thank you so much for all your amazing feedback, Ishtiaq!
Your videos have convinced me i need a tamyia in my colection i think ill build a lunch box over the winter awesome video as normal 👍👍
I hope you have a great build! The LB is such an icon too. Hoping to see your finished build here on youtube. Definitely gonna get me one too ... some day. Thanks a lot and thanks for all the support, Adventure Time RC! Cool quality videos you have in your channel. Subscribed of course :-)

Very nice Monster! I'm in 😍
Me too! It's a beauty :-)
This may sound crazy but it seem they re release a lot of these old cars I'm so excited
Yeah, Tamiya has a lot of re-releases by now. Hoping for more in the future 😄
Nordic RC Visions I checked and many have been re released 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 my wife gonna kill me🤣
Ha ha, yeah be careful. Starting a collection of re-releases can be quite addictive 😄 But very fun too!
ohhhhhhh i knooooooow!!!! my wife looked at me crazy too lol
dj cutlas Wait til you see her face when you fill up her house with Tamiyas ;-)
I admire and envy you the very neat and tidy workspace/desk! My desk looks like a *nightmare* when I'm working on my kits. A true nightmare. And then I just move to another desk and mess that one up, too :,(
Great video, by the way! :)
Ha ha, yeah, well, mine can look like a Nightmare too - when I'm not shooting videos at the same time - but generally I sort out the desk after every repair/build etc. so it's always neat and tidy to return to.
I am sure he cleans it up for every video scene. tidying up between the steps really helps and makes it easier overall.
I just build my blackfoot and while i really like the these space frame cars there are a few points that still need fixing. Sure hope tamiya goes back over all the reres and gives them a v2 update. They already fixed a lot of stuff on this car, why not make the remaining necessary 1-2 changes as well on the next batch.
Congrats with the Blackfoot, bro. Would love one of those one day too. Yeah, well, I wouldn’t count on a V2. Tamiya works in mysterious ways really. And even though they changed the axles on the re-releases for these two ORV, they didn’t really solve the problem. Better than before but the universal axles seem like a quick solution and it still causes problems. Check out some of my other videos with the MonsterBeetle 😬
Thanks for the video, very useful!!
Sorry, I am an amateur and would you please tell me:
- Why need polish the body with sand paper?
- Why need to spray the grey paint on the body before the red paint?
- For the front side windows, there are two colours on its frame, so should i make the silver part and paint the black part first or the other way round?
Thanks a lot!
Hi Calvin. The sanding is to make the paint stick/hold better to the plastic. The primer (grey) should also do this as it is of a different type than the other fine paint (red). And priming makes up a good background for the main color. Ensures that the paint will match the color it was intended to be. One can use grey background to darken it a bit, or white background for brightness. I can’t remember what I did with the windows. Probably all black first, though it would mean one has to add several coats of silver/chrome (always hard to paint on black).
About the primer (grey paint): if I where to do it again I would probably skip that part with this one as the body comes in red plastic. When scratching it (when running it and rolling over etc) the scratches expose the grey paint, instead of the red plastic.
Awesome my friend! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I'm enjoying mine. ;)
Theibault Thanks Omar! I hope I will! Looking forward running it. Sure looks pleasing to my eyes watching it run in your video :-)
Já me escrevi aqui lindo seus vídeos parabéns eu tenho um MCD 34cc 1/5
Yay! I probably like making the chassis better than the body...
It definitely is the quicker part. Painting and detailing these hard bodies take a lot of time I learned. One can actually just use it with the red plastic, not painting it, and just assembling it and sticking on the decals. Makes a good runner.
Very nice. Nothing like building a new Tamiya. Seems a shame to get it all scratched and dirty when you run it but you know you have to !
Pete Wylie Yeah, I have the deepest respect for all who wants to keep certain models on the shelf, but I've had no luck keeping mine there :-)
This makes me want to go out and buy another monster beetle 😂😂
They are so much fun. And so pleasing to the eyes :-) Looking forward running it again in 2019. Thanks a lot for watching, Bernard.
The performance is basically a blackfoot right?
NORDIC you need to do a speed test for it and if I buy one I would probably spray the orange parts satin black I think it would look awsome
+fulgurfortitude alan That would be a good idea, though it will probably not be too fast :-) Yeah it would look good in black. Thanks for watching!
Hi ! Love your videos ! Learn a lot and quick with your channel.
I'm a newbie in Tamiya's World and i just got un MB from 87 on ebay ( very very cool price, good looking tyres, no breaks or anything and complete, amazing !) but i have a problem with the 3 steps speed controller or the servo. The one for the direction is perfect but this one is going too far on one side and too short on the other.
So the controller don't do go/stop/back. When i go forward, good but weak. I stop, it continues and to stop i go backward which is neutral for the controller. And if i push more backward, it may go back. Pfuii...
Do you have any advices or tips , please ? It would be very cool until i get a new servo or an electronic ESC next month...
Thanks! Cool with an old original one in good condition. Congrats! The best advice I can give is to check the MSC visually when operating it (on a car stand/free hand). Check visually how far the MSC goes on either side. And then adjust/trim the servo on your transmitter. You may have to take the servo horn/saver off and set the servo(s) to neutral on your transmitter - and then replace the servo horn/saver and adjust a little again on your transmitter. Most of the old MSCs, if they work, should be pretty much bulletproof, it just takes some time fiddling with it. Sorry I can't help anymore. Good luck with it!
Nothing like the 1986 model
Lou Bandini That one is special yeah :-)
great
thomas vinnicombe Thanks! It's a great kit
That is the Bledsoe is.
Do you still have this RC Monster beetle please comment back very nice thank you for showing
Yes
@@NordicRC Would you like to sell it or no please let me know
The rubber dust boots on my monster beetle seem quite loose, I used zip ties to keep them on the drive cups.
Yeah, they are very loose. One can easily leave them out too and leave the axles without grease (so they do not attract dirt). Most off road models work fine that way ☺️
@@NordicRC yeah I remember when I was a kid I put a lot of grease on Boomerang, the dogbones and drive cups wear like hell😫
@@gsf1200s Yeah, running them off road, the grease just turns into a mixture of dirt and grease, a grinding paste. But if running it through water and mud it protects the metal too. Just hours of drying and cleaning and re-greasing afterwards. But for smooth in door/carpet/clean on road tracks it's a good option. :-)
found the cv joint boots to be a disaster
Yeah, they can bind and even be filled with dirt 🙂
Ya good luck getting replacement parts for it. I have a Blackfoot I need parts for. But no one makes them anymore. Can someone tell me where I can find parts for it at? Thank you.
I got a 14turn carson (TamiyaCup) and 80A Hobbywing Ezrun wp. The diff is locked.
+Werner Racing Team Nice! Can the gear box take it? MIP has just released a ball diff I'm about to install.
Nordic RC Visions I got my own difflock. I think that the balldiff was work continuously with not too much power.
In my videos i show how you can lock the diff easily.
very wonderful video but the chassis he is like blackfoot
thx bud
Thank you, Mr. Evil :-) Yeah, same chassis. Also used on a few others like the Subaru Brat and Frog. It's called the ORV chassis.
@@NordicRC beautiful good job buddy i l😘ve tamiya monster truck like super clodbuster or blackfoot about blackfoot this vintage truck i have one i will never sell her i l😘ve classic trucks well thx again dude peace.👊
Peace my mate.
@@NordicRC yeah that what's up peace.👊
Where is the rear window glass?
Not on the re-releases Beetle (Blitzer, Scorcher, Monster)
My partner and i have used this and found it useful however it would be considerably better if the video was 3 or 4 times longer
to see details better
Glad to hear it was useful. Yeah, as a companion to the instructions it sure would be better to see the details. But it was never really intended as such. Just a video about building a Tamiya Monster Beetle, that might be interesting for people who are interested in the Monster Beetle and/or iconic Tamiya RC models in general. In my recent build series about The Grasshopper II 2017 I have included many more details however :-)
Thanks mate good work I am going to buy the Nova Fox as it looks amazing however I want to put the best quality fastest motor in it, any ideas ! was hoping you had done one but cant see it. Your work is great
thomas vinnicombe Thanks Thomas! Ahh, the Nova Fox. Such a beauty. On my wish list together with many more Tamiyas. Never had one so I don't know much about it. Should handle really good too I've heard/seen. Lots of good motors around. Tamiya themselves keep some cool quality modified motors (like the Super Stock series) that many prefer in their 80's models when they deserve a little xtra. But I guess if you want serious speed + quality it's brands like Castle you should go for. Don't know anything about the transmission of the Nova Fox, if it can handle it, or if it is capable enough to be fun running with +speed.
Thanks mate will always keep an eye out for your tutorials good stuff and all the best
thomas vinnicombe Thanks for supporting my little hobby channel, Thomas. I hope to see you in the comment sections of some future videos for some Tamiya talks. It's always a pleasure meeting others with the same enthusiasm for Tamiya.
like this video
Thanks for the support, Arkhyne!
Your welcome. I will always be a big fan of Rc.
The Monster Beetle’s gearbox the same as the Frog’s? The front suspension also looks similar...
Yeah, the same chassis. It's the ORV. Same chassis as the Frog Subaru Brat, Blackfoot etc.
the monster bettle is my favorite Cars y find monster bettle for me because my monster bettle is bad
The Monster Beetle is great. The rerelease and parts is for sale all around the world so I’m sure you’ll get yours fixed :-)
Do you keep the boxes?
Yeah, even though I have limited space I can't bring myself to discarding these boxes. I have a weak spot especially for the original and rerelease Tamiya box-art.
As a kid, I kept boxes and my toys in pristine condition. In my teen I threw them away. Now, I learn that that Dino RIders T-Rex with box is worth almost 3000 dollars. :o Darn it.
What's the name of the BGM?thanks
BGM?
@@NordicRC I mean the music in your video
