- S&W M&P 22 Compact or Taurus TX22. We got a lot of request to compare these two and I was curious as well. We appreciate GunProDeals for their help! Also a Big thanks to CCI for the Mini Mags!

I won a national Practical Police Combat competition with a Taurus. They also have a lifetime warranty.
Best thing about a 22lr is that you can practice without going broke.
Amen
And be picky about ammo even the best stuff is cheap in comparison!!!
You would not say that a couple of years ago . Bricks were going for 60 to 100 bucks for 500 round just less than 2 years ago......
Unless you're buying CCI Mini Mag ammo.
Untill the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021.
Was planning on getting the S&W for the past couple years. I basically impulsed purchased the TX22 and couldn’t be happier.
Nice
I find the grip and frame of the TX22 to feel amazing.
It is such a feather-weight firearm.
Isnt it great I am 22lr guy and this is now my favorite. I have one FTE in 500 rnds and you could clearly hear it was ammo related.
Agreed, this pistol is the best .22 I've ever handled. In fact, it might be the best handling pistol of any caliber that I've ever owned, it's that good!!
@@MrAutochamber Do you happen to have a Uberti SAA 1873 Army-style 12rd .22LR? I bought one and liked it so much I bought 2 more. It's a whole 'nuther world.
@@furion.. No I do not in fact i did not know Umberti made a 22lR in the single action revolver class. I looked them UP they are very pretty guns. I can see why you love yours.
@@MrAutochamber The barrel is a full diameter .45 barrel but only drilled out to .22 so it's kind of a bull barrel, somewhat nose heavy and therefore very stable when shooting longer distance like 150 - 200yds.
Something about it is just fun!
When I was a 20-something punk all I could think about was semi-auto or autoloaders but there's something truly pleasurable about slowing down, cocking the hammer for each round and 'carefully aiming' which puts it in a different category of fun from an autoloader.
when i caught up with the video i just got in from shooitn the ol model 60 today so i was happy to see that you had fun help with this review on this range day thanks everyone very cool
I can’t say enough about the Taurus TX22. This gun is just phenomenal so far! I don’t even take my Ruger Sr22 to the range anymore.
Lilnasty 2988 ruger is better
Show the SR22. I am more malfunction so is that actually. Nice, kind of kid feeling. Very surprised with the TX Taurus
Man, autocorrect sucked. Sold my SR22. More malfunctions with that. Pretty impressed with that TX Taurus
Gsfbffx Pdhhdf OPINION ONLY-TAURUS. MORE AMMO ... BETTER
I'm really like my TX-22.
The TX22, and the GX4 are both pistols I like and own. Along with a G3C. They're very good regardless of the cost and I've had no problems with any, while they continue to be very accurate.
There is a break in period of a couple hundred rounds, but once that's done, they hold their own against any of my other pistols.
The fact that they cost about 25-50% less than any of the other pistols they compare to, they should sell like crazy.
Thanks for your comparison Sootch. I've had my M&P 22 Compact for several years and it's performed flawlessly. That said, after checking a large number of favorable reviews on the TX22 I decided to add one to my collection. I haven't fired it yet but am eager to do so. The 16 round magazine with the TX22 had a big influence in my Taurus purchase.
I have now added a TX22 and it is exceptional. Everything in this review is spot on. The pistol feels like a full size pistol. Who doesn't like having 2, 16 round magazines plus one in the chamber?
Yeah, love M&P pistols. Just wasn't sold on the 22. Got the SR22. That was okay for a while felt kind of cheap starting now functioning off and on so sold it. Now this Taurus. 16 rounds, excellent reviews. Bought a few days after reading an article in a gun magazine and looking up those reviews. What a great pistol so far in many ways. Hope it continues like it is. Cheers to Taurus on this one
I bought the M&P 22 compact the day they dropped. Zero regrets. It’s the most reliable 22 that I own or have ever owned and I have owned several dozen 22’s. Still have a dozen or so. I’d like to try the TX22 but I’m not looking for a replacement for the 22c.
The TX22, because of that funky sexy squared trigger guard.
you said, "Funky, sexy...trigger guard" you should put that on a belt buckle.
@@charleslennonbaker Lol, that was good man 😂
Pretty high praise for the Taurus, as it held it's own against the S&W. Thanks for the review.
Smith quit making a truly great .22 when they discontinued the 422/622. Even had 12rd mags at one point.
See MAC review against Glock .22, I think Plinkster as well? It destroyed the Glock.
Dean Firnatine just my opinion of course but Glock dropped the ball on that weapon ! My sr22 and m&p.22 compact have ran flawlessly ! I plan on purchasing the TX .22 today actually and hitting the range . I sold the Glock to purchase the Taurus . My kids and I love plinking away with .22 Lr . I carry a G2C .40 and 9. As well as my fav carry weapon the Honor Defense Honor Guard . But I do love my shields as well ! I have .22 , 9mm , .40 , and .45 I will NEVER buy or carry another Glock and Glock was all I used to carry . Props to Taurus for stepping up their game
@@brettbickel6189 TX22 is better than G44 no doubt. But Taurus is definitely not better than Glock. My g17 gen 3 had 2 malfunction in first 200 rounds then never had any malfunctions. My G19x hasn't had a jam in 800 rounds(new gun) so far.
I am more than delighted with the TX22, hands down my favorite 22 pistol now. I haven't shot the M&P 22 pistol but I do love the AR 15-22 they make. Great review brother, have an awesome week!
Thanks for the review mate! As someone just getting into this, I found this very helpful! Keep it up!
I’ve been on the fence on this for a lil bit now. Thanks for the excellent review!! I think I’m going to buy a Taurus X22 as my next pistol !!
Just as he says here, I always considered my Taurus tx22 as a full sized pistol. Surprise to learn that it is the exact same size as other brands labeled as compact.
I own the M&P and went through multiple wrenches with that thread protector. Found a company online that sold a thread protector which was removable via an Allen wrench. This is definitely the better solution. The same company also sold a wrench that could be used with the original thread protector. That wrench was also a massive improvement over the cheap wrench that is shipped with the M&P. I can’t remember the name of the company, but I’d guess it wouldn’t be hard to find.
Excellent video! The best video I've seen comparing both pistols!
Another excellent, informative sootch00 firearms review. Thank you!
Taurus needs to make the next G2C line with the TX22 frames, at least the gripping anyways.
That good huh?
Taurus needs to make the g2c with a trigger that isn't garbage and I would buy another one. Mine was so so so bad in my opinion.
@@aaroncopple9266 it's not the best by any means, but it's alright. I don't really expect top quality parts for 200 bucks.
I like the feel of the g2c better than the tx22. Its nice to tho. The only other gun that feels as good in the hand to me is an m&p
I have the G2C - grip is just as good as my M&P 2.0.
Looking forward to shooting the TX22!
The tx is a beast that you can put a silencer on. runs great. feel good and shoots phenomenal. Holds alot of rounds
Been watching different videos on .22 semis and handling as many as I can. Was leaning toward Buckmark just because I love Browning and there are so many variations. Just finished Sootchs 2 videos on the Taurus. Going to the gun shop and gonna buy 1 today if in stock or order it.
Start the truck woman, we going to town.
I’d put 4 mags thru my SR22 at the beginning of every range session to work on trigger discipline before moving to 9mm. Picked up the Taurus a month ago and just blown away by everything about this pistol. Nearing 1000 rds and only1 ejection issue so far with some really bad ammo. It’s definitely my go to 22lr but time will tell on durability and support if and when issues start. Let’s hope Taurus did as good a job improving their customer support as they’ve done on their pistols.
Timely video Sootch, I’ve been having this debate in my head for weeks !
No debate bud takes is best in its class with the TX22 but get a lakelike guide rod it doesn't damage slide like stock polymer one
Several reviews here on CZcams convinced me a year ago to get a Taurus tx22. Have not regretted it. Very nice, inexpensive pistol. No failures. Goes bang every time. It even comes with an adapter for a suppressor. I'm now thinking about looking into getting a suppressor for it.
I need the tx 22 it was great meeting u in Richmond va keep up the great work long live the republic
I was looking at both of these for a while. Then the M&P became available so I bought it.
3 days later, the TX22 became available ......so I went and bought that as well.
Both of them had failure to fire's, on the first couple of magazines.
I oiled both, reloaded and by the time 30 - 40 rounds were through each of them that completely went away.
Very happy with both.
Both good firearms, it comes down to feel in hand. My wife has small hands and 100% loves the S&W. I also love the feel
Trigger slappin’ fun! The TX is very impressive.
Just bought a TX22. One of my favorite features is the cutouts under the slide that are perfect for resting the trigger finger, as well as the weak-hand thumb.
Love my m&p shield but quickly falling for my g2c. Tuff choice
I bought an M&P .22 compact and love it. Adjustable sights, accurate etc. I've had it for 6 years or better but don't think I've shot 100 rounds through it. Which reminds me I better get out and make sure it still shoots where it is pointed.
"Legendary Smith and Wesson quality" Unless you cant break it down for the Video Comparison.... Taurus for the Win!
Awesome! Just the video i was looking for!
I have the M&P compact 22 and I LOVE it. Haven't fired the Taurus, so I can't do a side by side comparison. But I love my M&P's.
Great video it’s a very difficult decision, you made some very valid points.
I think for my money I’m going to go with the Taurus.
I own several Smith and Wesson M&P 22 and 22C's and love them. All have Nick Taylor magazine followers and springs for 13rd in the 22C compact and 15 in the regular sized M&M 22. Bought my first Taurus TX-22 back in December and my second TX-22 last month. All 6 of my S&W's and Taurus's have had at least 2500-3000 rounds thru them with the only issues have been ammo.
Love my tx22. Such a fun gun. Love the trigger, capacity, price. Feels great in the hand. Upgraded the sights and put a ss guide rod in it from lakeline.
What sights? Was wondering if I should order the upgraded guide rod from Lakeline myself even though Taurus supposedly remedied the slide cracking issues with more spring count.
@@hardcore4476 I got the fiber optics sight set. I really like them.
@@jordanbailey9654 from Tandemkross?
@@hardcore4476 from Lakeline llc
I’m confident Taurus will make a compact version of the TX-22. I’ll definitely get one of those as well
Awesome review. Just ordered tx22. Excited to try it out. Semper Fi, God bless
Got my tx22 and love it. Same day I bought it, I ordered mag extensions, muzzle brake and red dot from Tandemkross. Absolutely love the gun now and my buddies are doing the same.
I enjoyed this review. I wish S&W would make a 9mm version of the M&P22 Compact with a semi-staggered 10 round magazine like the one in the Glock G48.
Just got 2 more magazines from TAURUS yesterday can't wait to shoot!
After an organized campaign by the NRA and NSSF over the issue of smart guns, thousands of retailers and tens of thousands of firearms consumers boycotted Smith & Wesson. CEO Ed Shultz, who negotiated the deal, was forced out in September of that year. By December 2000, the company's stock price was 19 cents per share. Smith & Wesson dropped its smart gun plans after nearly being driven out of business. I swore I would never buy a S&W. Taurus guns have never failed me, and they're always less expensive and more innovative. You didn't mention the front of the trigger guard grip on the Taurus.
Well stated, Mark. I remember Hating Smith and Wesson for that. Every Reviewer brings up the Brazil made Taurus Guns reliability, yet strangely.... No one ever brings up the S&W debacle.
Love my S&W M&P 22C but will check out the Taurus!
Love my TX22, I picked it up over the SW because at the time I bought it it was over $100 less. Now they are about the same price.
2000...through my TX 22 with a Vortex red dot....................LOVE IT!!!!!
Nice, clear and comprehensive review.
Very nice comparison. I sure do want to try the Taurus.
A Hair Dryer worked great for getting the adapter off my M&P 22 Compact. It was really stuck on the barrel. Just heat it up and it comes right off, then oil or grease a bit and it’s ez breezy from then on. I really like my M&P 22 Compact but I like my Beretta M9 22 15 round better, now that would be a great pistol to compare to the Taurus TX22, similar size and magazine capacity. BTW Great Video!
Sometimes people don't get it. Taurus firearms have not improved because they're made in Miami. They have improved because the company wants to make a better product. When that's the case, it doesn't really matter where they are made. Manufacturing is a job any warm body can do!!!
When companies outsource manufacturing overseas, it's typically under the same guidelines of quality, training and equipment. When you buy cheap crap at Home Depot it's because that's what the US company wanted to build/market.
"Manufacturing is a job any warm body can do" No, absolutely not. Modern manufacturing with CNC machines, computer input, 3d printing, etc requires an intelligent, trained workforce. The average CNC machinist in the United States makes approximately triple the federal minimum wage. 3rd wold manufacturers may be able to injection mold a piece of cheap plastic or sew a pair of pants just as well, but when it comes to complex items and expensive materials, quality matters. There is a reason why Germany is one of the world's foremost manufacturing powers, for example.
To get the threaded adapter off your Smith without damaging it, cut some music wire pieces to shim the recessed flats (bottom of the slots) even with or above its outer circumference so you can grab it with a normal tool.
Thanks 00. Great job. Good info. Any whispers about a Taurus 22 magnum?
Great Review! Love the Bloopers!
Well, I can't decide. I want one of each!
It's hard not to get another Tx22, it's extremely good. I want a gun for the wife, something smaller than the Taurus that's reliable just like it. I don't think I'll find it
Just bought the Taurus today. Love it.
M&P C22 eats all ammo and a great suppressor host. I’ve had mine since 2015. I sold many and had nothing but good feedback directly from customers.
The M&P shield line of pistols are great. Own a .380 ez, its an awesome firearm.
S&W does it right.
I have the M&P Compact and it's great! I removed the threaded end and bought a thread protector to put on it and a hard rubber recoil buffer which helps keep the slide aligned, and i've put 1,000 rounds of various ammo through it and it's functioned 100% and the only failures were duds.
I was just wishing you would make this vid last night lol . Thank you !
Took my first shots thru my new TX22 over the weekend and absolutely loved it! Did not clean it first (I usually always clean new guns before shooting), put about 100rds thru without a failure. Like or hate Taurus this is a great gun. I've actually always had great experiences with all my Taurus guns. The TX22 is no exception. Highly recommend.
Great comparison as usual Sootch! If you can afford it buy both. They're both awesome handguns and a blast to run suppressed.
This is very helpful information. Thanks again.
I have the m&p compact and it runs really well but the one I have ejects a lot of cases straight back hitting me in the face, so mostly I shoot my Buckmark. I sold an SR 22 because it jammed way too much even when well cleaned and running CCI. I handled the Taurus recently and liked it, maybe trade in the M&P.
Another awesome versus video Sootch00 an as always long live the republic my friend.
The BEST way to 'sign off'! ~- *
I've had a S&W M&P Compact for 2 1/2 years, with over 16,000 rounds fired. I've had 2 problems during that time, but both fixed under warranty by S&W. I had a broken firing pin at 9,500 rounds and at 12,500 rounds the aluminum slide cracked all the way from one side of the slide to the other side, jamming on the frame. With that one, S&W send a new slide. However, I've had some good results with a Taurus 709 Slim, running without flaw for over 6,000 rounds. That makes me interested in the TX22, with larger mag capacity.
After I whatc the video I went to get one for my wife, and she love it , shooting range time
Great video & reviews, very objective as always... keep it up.
Nice review as usual, thanks.
Future reviews please mention if sights and guide rods are metal or plastic.
3:50 My Sig P250-22 also has polymer magazine while other P250 have steel mags.
Guess steel not as important w/22LR but I sure wasn't expecting plastic on a Sig.
P250-22 holds 12 rounds from Sig but aftermarket kits available to make it 14.
TX22 definitely going on my wish list.
I just bought a YX22 and have over 500 rounds through it so far, I have had 3 malfunctions, One failure to feed while running Suppressor and 2 light strike/bad rounds.....it's a keeper...and zero cleaning in that over 500 rounds...
Love them both, I have the tx and the shield 9mm.
I've own both of these guns and concur with this review. Good job 👍 It's probably just me but I could never consistently shoot the S&W as accurate as the TX22.
It doesn't seem to be just you. Reviews are all over on its accuracy, but there are more than a few that have rated it fair to poor in that aspect. I've never shot it though so I can't offer any personal opinion on it.
Great review. I only became aware of the TX22 just recently(I guess because I am an old school Ruger .22 fan. But the TX22 does have some appeal. Guess I will give it a closer look. I am also crazy about my several S&W 422’s, too bad they were discontinued, especially the 12 shot magazine models!!!
Taurus has been really stepping up their game, lately! The G2C is becoming a lot of people's EDC pistol, and this TX22 looks like it would be a great training tool
I have them both and the TX22 is not all that similar to the G2C.
Taurus TX22 all day. Wish my Glocks had that grip.
Great vid. The TX also comes with 10 rnd mags....depending.
God! How I love my compact M&P 22! I wish I could fire it this very second!
I have always been a Smith fan, but the G2C and now this TX22 are really great guns and their sales show it! I like a thumb safety on my pistols and the only M&P safety that I like on the M&P pistols is the one on a Shield. The other M&Ps are too wide. Taurus safety design is nice and flat.
Hello my outdoors friend. As always, a really fine review. Thank you for sharing. 🤗
Great Video Brother, Thanks! Ole Grant looked like business, Stone Cold Stallone!😎 Stay Safe Brother and as always, Long Live the REPUBLIC!🙏🇺🇸
Grind down the sides of an 11mm or 7/16 standard wrench to fit the width of the adapter on the m&p. Worked great for me.
yup exactly what i did as well
Don, you have to heat that barrel adapter up with a torch too get it loosened up or if it's got rock-set put it in boiling water for four to five minutes and it will wrench off either way. They made them ten rds so they can sell in all fifty states .
Both guns looking excellent 💪
Fantastic video well done 👏✔
We need to get sootch to one million subs!!!
Amen'!
Why? He does paid advertisements for companies?
just got a M&P22c the adaptor came off with no problem, it is also nearly the same size as my M&P9c the 9 is obviously a bit wider.
Thanks for the review.
I was set on the M and P but now I’m torn.
Mr X thanks I picked up the M and P with a deal at Academy recently.
The TX is fine for me but it’s too big in the hand for young shooters.
The M and P is proven as you say and it’s the Goldilocks size for most new yo shooting. Eg my young girls.
A very good review. A+. My TX 22 is waiting for me to pick up when my Background check paperwork comes back in 3 days. I sold my Colt Huntsman and regret it. I've watchee
Love your reviews and one of the best out here! Would you recommend I buy Lakeline guide rod even though Taurus supposedly remedied the slide cracking issue? Got my daughter one for her near birthday and haven’t shot it yet. Thanks in advance! 🇺🇸
I bought my M&P Compact just before Christmas 2022. If I had chosen to buy the adapter, it would have been an extra charge. It came with a thread protector for the barrel. So far I love it. However, 9mm ammo is suddenly overstocked and can be found on sale. Since I can get ammo for about 20 cents per round now, I doubted my decision but prices will go up and the wife doesn't track ammo costs. (I convinced her the new pistol would pay for itself because shooting 22 is cheaper than 9mm). So far I love the Compact. Tight groups. Shoots Aguila and Armscor and Winchester ammo consistently. Same size as my M&P Plus. What's not to love other than the 10 round mag.
Picking my Taurus up today at high noon based on your previous report on the XT 22. Relatively new to shooting sports and will use it to hone my marksmanship skills. Thanks for you expertise.
...if you don't mind...cost out the door? I love it...want..
Clip size means little after you look for mag followers and springs. 16+1 in the same M&P mag I bought it with.
I just want to let you know that I just bought an Smith & Wesson M&P Compact 22 the adapter did come off with a little struggle with a newer type wrench that they sent. Here's the kicker I got the adapter off and I put the cap back on to tighten it. The wrench won't fit in the new cover cap that they sent. So I seen other videos where they said they used Loctite blue and that seems to help. I haven't done it yet but just for FYI. I use federal 38 grain 1260 fps with no problem.
Love my Taurus TX22 it will shoot all the bulk ammo I feed it good video
I’m gonna buy the Taurus this week there’s a $50 rebate right now.
I'll stick with my S&W M&P 22 Compact after learning about the chatter marks and severe fouling problems in the original TX22 barrels. I'll consider buying a TX22 only after carefully inspecting the barrel with a bore scope.
Just got one and the rifling looks nice and even and no chatter in mine really smooth
@@doddgarger6806 Good deal.
Got one, mine is very nice and way too accurate
Thanks for the comparison!
Taurus is taking over!!
Great review both very nice.
Excellent review as usual. Both pistols seem worth owning.
One thing to mention is that Taurus has the LIFETIME WARRANTY!! I don’t think you mentioned that in the video but that is also another pro! Great video once again!!
After several thousand rounds you will need the warranty. 4 of 4 had to be sent back,3 for broken slides,1 for broken safety.
@@jeffbadger462 that’s freaking awesome!!
