There has been a lot of discussions about the Glock 44 and its reliability on the discussion forums. Previously we had lots of problems with the reliability of the Glock 44. We applied some magazine loading tricks we found on the Glock website and based on what other G44 owners were suggesting worked for them. Then we put the "Remington is junk ammo" and "Federal is junk ammo" theory to the test by comparing the Glock 44 to the Taurus TX22.

To be honest, I don't care if the "snake oil" style methods described on these forums provide 100% function in the G44 or not. The lack of an out of box threaded barrel option, the limited capacity, and crappy sights along with the finicky nature of the Glock make this gun a no go for me. I mean, seriously, it already takes longer to load mags than to empty them while on the range. I don't want to have to stand on one leg, hold my breath, and raise my left eyebrow exactly 3 millimeters to make the gun work with cheap, readily available ammo. It feels weird to say this, especially since I EDC a G19 or G17 pretty much every day, but gimme the Taurus over the Glock in this case. Thank you for putting out this kind of content and not toeing the industry line, Tim. It means the world to me, and I'm sure to others as well.

Thanks man. Just remember, it's our Patreons that make this type of no BS commentary and testing possible. If we were reliant on the manufacturers we would have to behave more like the gun magazines to protect our ability to survive as a business. Since we're viewer supported, we have extreme latitude when it comes to what we say and how straight forward we can be.

@@Militaryarmschannel Of course. I apologize if my comment came off as demeaning to your process. That was not my intent at all. I myself am a Patreon supporter and I thoroughly enjoy all of your content. My comment was aimed at my distaste for the G44 and the lack of features and reliability. Had it not been for the content you've been making on the gun, I would have assumed it was 100% good to go out of the box, so I really appreciate you testing it and posting honest results. Again, I'm truly sorry if you or any other Patreon took my comment as an affront to the work you do here or your unbiased information.

Everything from Aguila Super Extra high velocity, CCI Mini Mags, CCI Stingers, CCI Velocitors, to Winchester SuperX high velocity hollow points all work great. The only thing that's gave me problems is federal syandard velocity hollow points, I think it's just a little on the weak side.

@Willie Wonka I've always had good luck from Taurus handguns. But when I've ordered spare mags from them or talked to their customer service, I've received horrible service from very unhelpful, very rude employees. I keep hearing Taurus is under new management and their customer service has improved. But I dealt with them just a year ago. I ordered 2 mags from them for a 22 pocket auto I had. It took multiple phone calls-many taking an hour to be answered, if at all. When someone did pick up the phone, they were extremely rude and extremely unhelpful. After several months of this crap, I told then I could have walked to Brazil and back by now and picked then up, they hung up on me. Finally, after over 10 months of this crap, I finally received my 2-overpriced magazines in the mail. I sold the pistol and have vowed to never get another Taurus. I'm not buying a gun from a company that has rude employes and take 10 months to deliver 2 mags or parts I need. Oh, and before that mess, I had bought a used Taurus 45 auto double action pistol. It had a weak magazine button spring. Taurus wanted to charge me $15 for that $2 spring. They said the spring was $7-postage was $8! I asked about the lifetime guarantee. They informed me I had to send the gun to them, on my $, for them to honor their warranty. I told the guy I wasn't paying that kind of money for postage to mail a gun to them so they could install a simple spring that I could do in 10 minutes or less. And I wasn't paying $15 for a spring that was pribably worth $2 and should be free under their lifetime warranty. They hung up on me that time too. I sold the gun to a buddy, cheap, as is. I remembered after I got that 22 why I sold that 45. I will not do business with a company that is rude, unhelpful and doesn't wasn't to honor their guarantee. Taurus- decent guns-but horrible service when you need customer support.

Thanks for listening to my rant! Lol. I guess I had to let that out. Anyway, yeah, going to a local gunsmith would probably be a good idea if your Taurus needs work done on it. I've honestly had great luck overall with their guns over the years. When I was young and 1st married, my wife and I both had Taurus handguns. Me a 38 snub and a 92-9mm. Her, a 38 snub. I swore by them and highly recommended them to others. But after a couple of interactions with their CS, I really started having different thoughts about the company. I've had a lot of guns over the years. From cheap to not to cheap, and many in between. My current primary carry guns are a Glock 40 and an older model Rossi 38. Back before Taurus owned them. I'm far from a gun snob. I even own 4 Hi Points. And to be honest-Hi Point customer service is probably the best in the business. And Glock has treated me really good on my last couple interactions with them. I've had some friends tell me Berreta can be pretty unhelpful. I do judge a company a lot by their CS. Any gun can have a problem. How the company takes care of That problem and how they treat customers needing spare parts and magazines is very important to me. And I just don't like doing business with the companies that have crappy and unfriendly CS.

      Time for a good flogging....
@1st Amendment , and maybe YOU should ask for a few details before squandering your cherished 1st Amendment right on cheap, presumptive, keyboard warrior lip?
"Flock" claimed it's .22s worked with dozens of loads. They don't. You don't need to take my word for it, there are plenty of reviews on CZcams, and even the Glock fanboys admit they suck.
Meanwhile I've seen a $10 Jennings .22 auto shooting Remington "Thunderbolts" that worked more reliably than some "Block" 44s using Mini-mags, Federal Auto Match, and Stingers in a vain attempt to make them reliable.
My Buckmark, Walther p-22, Taurus TP-22, Ruger SR22, and Ruger Mk II all run with whatever is on hand.
My kid sister's Sig Mosquito and Ruger Mk I, as well my buddy's Buckmark, Ruger 45/22, 70-year-old Hi Standard and Walther P22, AND my ex-wife's P22....ALL work with whatever we feed them. The only stoppages we have are from primer gaps or filthy guns.
Meanwhile another friend's Keltec PMR-30, a notoriously un-reliable make and model, actually works better that his Glock 44.
I'm very sorry about your complete lack of manners, and complete lack of capacity for critical thinking. Not too many people's momma raised them right these days, and mental disfunction and general ineptitude are no laughing matters. If it's any consolation, Congratulations on your sample of one ammo finicky, over priced, reliable if you pay enough to feed it, Glock 44. They are EXCELLENT pistols...for practicing malfunction remediation drills.

Okay now that that's out of the way if a gun, especially a .22, takes that much care to load. Is that picky on ammo. Takes different training to use, having to slingshot versus using the slide release ( I'm with MAC, if it wasn't meant to be used as a release then they would NOT have textured the top surface). I totally get the part about making sure that you don't get rim lock in loading the mags. Plus it costs more. All that adds up to a no go for me.

I loved the look and feel of the Walther over the Taurus, but function is 100% the most important thing to me. Clearly the gun isn't "legendary" if the standard for such status is extremely reliability, ease of use and compatibility with a wide variety of ammo. Like you said, Colt nailed it decades ago, as did Ruger... and others. Taurus nailed it more recently and did so for $100 less while providing 16 round mags and a threaded barrel for that price. There's nothing legendary about the G44 other than it's just another Glock, and more fickle than its centerfire counterparts in my experience.

Just subscribed, excellent video. As a NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, I usually start my students with a .22 to get their shooting form right without worrying about the recoil. I bought the G44 thinking it would be an easy trainer to go from to a 9mm. I had a totally different experience than you have with your gun. I threw the rounds into the magazine, shot all kinds of ammo from mini mags to blazer brass, some really crap ammo and had no problems. I must give a caveat, however, I shot no 36 grain. All I shot was 38 grain and higher. It shot CCI standard velocity with no problem and functioned flawlessly with ammo I had. In 1200 rounds I had only one failure and I believe it was due to ammunition failure. I think perhaps the functionality varies from gun to gun and Glock should have continued testing and tweaking this gun before bringing it out. By the way, I am not a Glock fanboy, I have several kinds of pistols including S&W, Ruger, Sig, and Taurus. Thanks for the video!

Justin Bellio while I’m hesitant to purchase the 44, .22 ammo is NOT inherently without issues. I have been a firearms instructor since the late 1980’s and teach many classes every year. When people show up with .22s for class I cringe because the ammo itself is inherently unreliable. It’s simply the design of the rim fire cartridge and it’s primer system. It’s also a very dirty cartridge and most people don’t clean them. I have numerous.22 weapons and all of them have issues from time to time, mainly due to the ammo. But if you clean them properly and use good 40 grain ammo such as mini mags you’ll have fewer problems.

I would like to think of this an adjunct video regarding the additional “tricks” to make the Glock more reliable. But it still cannot eat cheap, fun Federal bulk pack ammo, even if you stand on your head and chew gum while loading the Glock mags. I’m glad to see that it can work with the Remington bulk ammo (which, in my experience, is not nearly as bad as people say), but you should not have to do all that you did to get it to work.
