Keep it at 160mm travel. Looks like a mini nukeproof scout now. The wheelbase and angles are pretty dang similar. But I had ridden a nucleus and that frame is stiff. If you can get your hands on a scout or ragley bike, they ride noticably softer and the Ragley can actually do drops to flat and not hurt your ankles
Yeah its crazy how a budget frame is made to be so solid and stiff! You always give great bike advice, I appreciate it.
@@EvansMTBSaga Go for the 160mm debonair B1 rockshox spring for yari and lyrik. This gen of air springs has about 7-8mm of extra sag which means your bike will have slightly more than 150mm of travel, a good middle ground imo. Also this generation of springs is known to be somewhat better than the later versions, despite the slightly less-than-advertised travel. Here is the manufacturer reference number for the air spring in question: 00.4019.932.002
Vitus HTA 67 Nukeproof 64.5, Vitus wheelbase 1151 Nukeproof 1187, Vitus Reach 432 Nukeproof 440 uhh no they are far from pretty dang similar
"The Saga Squad" 😂 That's great! I'm going to go ahead and say now congrats on another huge video man.👍
Haha I'm trying to come up with cool terms like you guys. One of you guys said Saga Situation the other day and I'm definitely using that!
After watching this a few times I put the same yari on my vrs model and it's the best thing I've ever done! What a bike it's became 😳 👌
Hi I'm looking at buying a 160mm marzocchi fork. But before I pull the trigger do you still think 160mm is good for the nucleus?
Your personality, the camera angles/quality/editing is just so perfect, you could literally make a video about anything and I'd watch it. You are so suited to making these videos. Happy to see your channel growing! Looking forward to more content :D Take care, and stay safe.
had a 150 rock shock on my vrs nucleus for almost 2 years. Love it, hit drops and jumps and the frame is fine. Wanders a lil more going up but coming down is where the fun is.
I recently bought an old specialized fuse 27.5 that came w/ a rockshox pike and 160 mm of travel. Super fun bike to ride 👌🏻
Hey bud, just wanted to say i do enjoy ur videos, and i look forward to seeing them every week man, i live in Chattanooga ,Tn so if u ever do travel this way man id love to take u on some really good trails , keep up the good work man.
Great video man you make all your video's fun love it
Well that’s no longer a “budget” bike, at least not in the same vein as the Schwinn. You’ve done an awesome job transforming a Vitus Nucleus HT from a xc/trail to trail/enduro. Your vids help me, and I assume others, with tips and tech considerations as I upgrade my bike. More coffees on the way! ;-)
Haha absolutely no longer a budget bike, that ship has sailed. Next video I'm putting on a Deore drivetrain to really put the nail in the coffin of a budget build. Such a good frame that can handle all the changes so well. Thanks again for the support!
🥰🥰 We are just enjoying all the love😊.
You should try the 160mm fork on the Mythique!! That would be awesome to see
Agree to this as im wanting to do it for my Mythique too!!
Dude the upgraded bike looks sickk👍🤗
Hahahaha I rock 140mm on my NS Eccentric and it is really a beast of a hardtail. That 160mm just eats the trail alive 🤣🤣🤣
I'm really thinking 160 is the way to go!
@@EvansMTBSaga slackens the headtube, puts the seat further back and gives you more travel...... Sounds like a great time to this guy! 😁😁😁
I'm rocking 160mm Yari on my NS Eccentric and it's great. Can climb anything, the front wheel is not jumping around.
I finally got the nucleus after MONTHS of waiting. SO hyped
How is it?
@@Mikesonbikes it rides really nice. So for my experience with the nucleus has been sick
Always good with the Maxxis, that fork looks sick
Hey Evan! You should put this fork on the Vitus Mythique and see what those does! That would be an interesting video
Awesome vid Evan. I run a 180mm Bomber fork on a Chromag hardtail. Overkill? yes, unnecessary? yes. but gives you a lot of confidence when jumping or going downhill
Oh man those Chromags are my favorite. Steel is made to flex, aluminum isn't
I have an old 170mm bomber fork on my dad's Kona Stinky and it is hard to climb, even though it is a DH bike with a single-crown fork
Been looking forward to this. Another banger!
Thanks Larry!! It was kind of rushed so I hope it turned out okay.
@@EvansMTBSaga quality of your videos is up there with the biggest creators. Really awesome to see.
CRC shipped yesterday my new Nucleus, already a couple of upgrades waiting here! :-)
IMO the best travel for this bike is 130-140.
Greetings from Italy!
Just finished watching, nice video!
Thanks Miata!!
Great video!
I'm running a rock shox 35 gold rl 160mm travel fork on my trek roscoe and I love it
Long travel is the way to go! Ive only had one or two people say to convert it to 140. Thanks Beserker!
How does it feel? I have a 2020 trek Roscoe 7 and I want to upgrade the fork but I’m not sure how far I can push it. Btw I don’t really care about steep/technical climbing, as long as I can take the fire road to the trailhead that’s all that matters.
@@alejandro9rojas I'm running 160mm travel on my Roscoe and it feels awesome, it really makes the bike come alive, best upgrade I've done so far. I did a bike check of my trek Roscoe on my channel
@@BerserkerNick sweet thanks, I’ll check it out right now!
Nice setup.
Gonna have Yari 160mm on my Nukeproof Scout, yellow. Can’t wait to try
Currently running the Sentier with a fox 34 at 140mm travel. HT is at 65 degrees and the thing feels awesome.
I also did the same thing on a kona process 134 and switched from 140 to 160 in the front. This made the bike a lot better on the downhills but climbing this thing is a nightmare
Yeah you should do 130-140 and compare the difference and feel . Great video !!
That's a good idea for a video!
Excellent vids, I just upgraded my forks to 140mm much better, I'm looking at adding an oval chainring but struggling to get one to fit the samox crankset, have you looked into anything like this I'm struggling, thought you might be the man to ask, cheers 👍
It will most likely be fine with the travel increase, but I would check it over before outing, just to check up on the frame. Enjoy it in good health!
I think if you like the bike as is at the travel it's at and don't see any major disadvantages.. I'd leave it at 160. I went from 140-160mm on my Nukeproof Scout and never regretted it. 140 got really harsh on rough DH
Yeah the Nucleus already feels pretty beefy, might as well keep it as such. Really makes me want to bomb jumps and rock gardens now. Before I was scared of a puncture or breaking parts. I'd love to try a Nukeproof one day, the GMBN guys love that brand.
@@EvansMTBSaga come and review mine man. I am in Mesa sort of near tempe
I am enjoying your content, keep up the good work. I think 140mm is perfect for a hardtail like that. That is what I run on my Vitus, and I like it.
What fork did you upgrade to from the suntour?
The Vitus looks so damn good now :)
That’s a cool deal hope it works out for you 👍
i think you should keep it at 160mm travel because it looks SICK and it seems to work really well
It looks sick tbf, I wonder how I'd work if he put it on the mythique
I ride 180 on my 29" xl sized stoic ...i really like it 🤣
Your bike Look like a little brother Version of my Stormgrey stoic
If it climbs good for you, I would leave it at 160mm. I prefer 140mm myself but it seems your terrian is much more aggressive! The bigger the stanchions the less air a fork needs, if anything you can add some tokens. Later this month Rockshox is coming out with a more budget friendly Enduro fork the Rockshox Domain starts at 150mm travel with 38mm stanchions and $550 new!
You should try a Commencal Meta HT! 160mm as standard 🔥🤙
To fix the basket ball sound cut a little section out of the ARD and then attach it back together with a ziptie
Good idea! I think that's what Vittoria recommends with theirs too
Greatings from my NS Bitch frame and marzocchi 66 180mm ;)
Great video. You should ride a bmx track in a video and ride the nucleus and your race bmx.
Hey great channel! How did putting the 2.5 aggressor go on the rear? I’m in AZ so not worried about mud but just dont want to rub.
It fit great!
Brother quick question how tall are you and you pick mediums on your vitus correct ? Also can I just buy the Jessica headset and just change the bearing on the fork or I have to swap everything thank you brother hope you doing great!!
I have a vitus sentier 2017 with 160mm manitou and stock was 140mm rockshox
Keep it at 160mm and see how well the frame is handling the extra travel
I love my yari. Pretty sure it's getting a charger 2.1 at the end of the year
Im putting a 150mm rockshox gold rl on my nucleus vrs today and I only paid 200 for it used is definitely the way to go
Dude that's awesome!! That'll transform the bike big time from the stock fork
Nice bro, looks sick. I wanted to bid on eBay when you have listed the fork but I didn't have the money in that time, It just gott the Axum DP. I have a Suntour Epixon 120mm straight tube
I guess I have to use that one until I save to get something like yours
Oh are you talking about the Ali express fork??
@@EvansMTBSaga yeah that one😅
I wonder how much shipping to Mexico is. Do you guys have zip codes so I could check?
@@EvansMTBSaga it is expensive bro. I ordered my axum dp overthere in the us , and my relatives bring it to me here in Mexico last weekend. They will coming back in 2 months. Are you planning to sell it again?
I'd give it to you! My baby son has been getting ahold of that fork and thinking it's a toy for months now. It's just collecting dust
I have 160 yari on my meta ht and its sick
If you don't like the weird geo you could try a headset that lets you steepen/slacken the ht angle by +-1 degree I believe wolf tooth component makes one, btw I have zero experience with this so I could be completely wrong in this lol
Oh man we are operating on the same frequencies. I was just looking up one today!
You should try the yari on the mythique and the bommer on the nucleus
I'm using 190mm ZEB Rock Shox in my MetaHT; and I think that is the limit x'D
I got the same fork for £230 on chain reaction and put it on my vitus nucleus 😂 as if I just found this video now I’ve been thinking it’s a bit much but it seems to ride well so far, it just eats up the bumps now
Great episode. Any suggestions on a 2020 27.5 Vitus Nuculeus VR frame as far as the forks go. Thanks!
Did you do anything? Im thinking this same now
@@matiassavolainen1227 I didn't. Unfortunately the deal fell thru with the frame I found online used.
Okay :( I might swap fox 34 ctd talas 160mm(adjustable travel) for my vitus 2020 size m 27,5 :D@@MAGICCIGAM68
Are you putting the markhor or the fork 32 on the wifebike with a tapered steerer adapter
you should upgrade the Rockshox Yari`s damper to a Rockhox Lyrik damper, cuz the Lyrik`s damper feels so good
You and I are on the same page! Gonna go with a charger 2.1 and call it the yari ultimate
Used market is crazy cheap these days. Today I received used Rockshox Yari 160mm 29in version for $200 and that's including shipping!
Leave it as is. You could try maybe a negative degree stem, I did the same to my bike and that helped on the climbs, now some 4 piston brakes!!!!
Oh I never heard of negative degree stems, I'll check that out. The entry level Shimano brakes are frightening now that I got used to Deore xt!!!
@@EvansMTBSaga yep, ill never go back mt200s, i have deore 4 pistons on my bikes. Yes there are some negative degree stems. I did the same thing on my bike and stability is awesome, and used a negative degree stem to help it climb.. there are some on ebay. Ill look for the link...
I ride a fs but I'd think that on a hardtail a longer fork is really diminishing returns. With modern short chainstays and long reach and ETT, your weight is more concentrated at the rear wheel of the bike than it used to be with old geometry. Thus making the fork less "active"
True. That reminds me of the grim donut bike, have you seen that one? The fork is so raked, I wonder if it even compresses unless you're going down a 45° hill lol
I would maybe sell the 130 shaft and buy a 140 shaft. 140MM seems like the perfect mix of uphill efficiency and downhill fun!
I'm super bummed out, the 130 shaft isnt debonair so I doubt it's worth much :( I agree about the 140
@@EvansMTBSaga Dang my man that sucks. You seem like you were having a blast with that 160! I like the direction you are taking both of the Vitus’s!
👌🤔great vid, the nucleus is good budget bike, but i will say after just four months of purchasing, the free hub body needs changing, any advice would be appreciated, its a KT68R free hub, hopefully i will be able to replace it, and not have to buy a whole new wheel😱
Oh man maybe you should consider buying a used high quality hub and lacing it up yourself. It's pretty easy if you follow a CZcams video!
@@EvansMTBSaga 😱yeah may be, but hopefully the free hub will be interchangeable🤞
How long was the steerer tube on the rockshox ?
What tire inflator are you using?
What are you recording with in the trail at the end?
Canon M50 with my small Amazon tripod. I have it linked in the description. It was killing my arm holding it up while riding lol
@@EvansMTBSaga lol, I bet
Think shorten it to 150-140mm sweet spot yeah!
4:44 nice lol
Haha glad someone caught that
I wonder how a 160mm would do on my 27.5 nucleus. Im thinking of going mullet 🤷🏻♂️
Probably even better. I think the 27.5 is 0.5 degrees more slack, so you'd be at 64-65. I wonder how slack we can go before the frame snaps 😂
@@EvansMTBSaga let’s hope it doesn’t crack 😂😂
I’m going 160mm on my gt aggressor pro. Can’t wait to tell you how it’s going! 🔥🦾🚲💯
@@mTbRaiDerLuis damn that going to be super slack haha
You should try to convert that yari to 180mm,It will be a best for dh
I'm in the process of converting it for this week's video. I pulled apart the fork and found out it was 170mm travel, not 160mm like I thought for this video
Even, what have you done! Oh, wait, I know, you have made one of the awesome aggressive Enduro hardtails! Almost like the one Blake (for, GBMN, I know you watch them) shredded at the almighty MegsAvalanche
so how long until the
headtube snaps
I was wondering if anything happens to the bike frame when using a fork with a lower travel than recommended?
Probably okay
I want to do this to my Marin San Quentin 🔥🔥🔥
That would make that so slack! Pinkbike is the way to go
@@EvansMTBSaga I'm going to have a look just now - love your videos mate!!
Hey Evan, will rustcheck work for fork oil ?
I'd stick to the recommended oil
May I ask how many psi do you run on this video at f/r tire. I run a 170 domain in my Giant fathom 2. It came at 65 it’s really good but I still try to find the sweet point of not bounce so much the rear end but not hitting the rim.
Oh I'm not sure in the video. Usually 20 front 22 rear
You should try Downhill forks
Haha yes! I like your style!
I have a CZcams channel as well that started up in January and was wondering if you have any advice on how to grow to expand to more people
First you gotta pick a topic for your channel and stick to it, don't deviate at all. I do bike build and repair. Notice no gopro footage of any trails. People are here for bike repair videos. Once you have your niche, make consistent content. You can start by picking another popular guy in the niche you pick and emulating their videos, style, even the way they talk on camera.
@@EvansMTBSaga thanks man I’ve got my niche and I’ve never thought about the last thing thanks
You have videos of bike work, jumping footage, gear review, and more. Way too broad.
@@EvansMTBSaga ok well thanks for the advice
Not sure I would put a 160 on that frame, Might look nice and slack but gonna stress the head tube a lot, could end up cracking and hurting you.
I've been asking that question all day! There's gotta be a limit
@@EvansMTBSaga they say the “safe” limit is around 20mm extra of the max fork size the frame is specced with.
will the manitou markhor go on the wifebike or will you sell it
I stripped out the damper side lower leg bolt so I don't want to sell a messed up part to someone.
140! And does this yari have the ultimate 2.1 upgrade? That will help small bump sensitivity
Tyler what up! It has the most dinky stock damper, but I'm definitely going to put a 2.1 damper in there, kinda pricey but it'll make for a good video. I'm probably gonna put this on the full sus bike and make it a mullet.
@@EvansMTBSaga on my canyon strive I did the 2.1 upgrade and it was awesome! Ya man mullet!!! Sennnnnd it! Just get it done for Big Bear haha
Hey, comnunity :)
I have the vitus nucleus vrs 29 2021 67° headtube.
Can i upgrade my fork to a 130, 140 without consequinces to the frame, thanks :)
There is always a risk when you change something like that. I don't think 130 is that bad, but do at your own risk
Hey I was gonna ask I have a trek marlin 7 69.5 head tube angle and its 100mm frame. What is the max travel? The fork I want to upgrade is from 80mm to 140mm it's adjustable. I'm getting a 120mm just to be safe
120 would be perfect! I'm not sure what the max travel is
I'd try what fits the whole bike best. But with the Yary I wouldn't go under 140mm
Oh yeah no way to 130. That's like a major party foul hahaha
Hi Evan. I know I'm 3 months late but I've got a question. I have an entry level hardtail with a 130mm rockshox recon RL. I recently found a great deal online for a fox fork that has 160mm do you think it'll work?
Yeah definitely it'll work. It made the bike pretty fun to have long travel
@@EvansMTBSaga wow man thanks for replying. I'll definitely keep your advice in mind!
but a new air shaft is like 40 bucks just add a 140 / 150 mm air shaft in the fox
I did the same thing to my Axum with a RockShox 35
Yeah that's the way to go!!
@@EvansMTBSaga however I also used an angled headset so I only lost half a degree on my seat tube angle
Where in AZ do you ride? those trails look sick!
That is a trail system called FINS in Goodyear, AZ
@@EvansMTBSaga Sweet! Where else in AZ do you like to ride? I've never made it out to FINS but it looks sick. Im used to riding around browns ranch in Scottsdale.
@@edwardbreck6924 The only other spot I go to is Estrella Competitive Loop, going there tomorrow actually! It's decent out west, but not the best. Decent enough to stick on this side. @@EvansMTBSaga I honestly don’t know about the race. I have heard that south mountain has some gnarly trails.
How did you manage to get the tires onto the wheels without levers?
Haha good question! It's all about taking the bead and feeding it into the middle channel of the rim, which is a tad deeper and makes everything so much easier
@@EvansMTBSaga I have offset rims and use metal levers. No idea how others do it.
Der Baron also is pretty tough stuff. DHR and DHF on offset tires are tough.
did you sell the fork 32 and also use flex seal as rim sealent
Haha you crack me up Eugene! Wife bike is a straight steer tube. Flex tape video will come! Flex seal sounds crazy like it'd be ruined forever lol.
Can you make a video where you use flex tape by Phil swift as rim tape because it would be interesting
Haha alright sounds like a video for Shorts
My Only bike that I race XC on is 170 mm front and rear. That’s a big bike
Haha that's awesome! It's cool that with XC you can just run anything you want
@@EvansMTBSaga same with down hill I’m fast on the bike XC I’ll hold my own but I’d be a lot faster on a new bike. But I love my 2011 pivot firebird out here on the east coast. How would a 140mm fork affect a 100mm frame?
That's what I wonder. It wouldn't be as drastic as a 160mm fork on 100mm frame. I worry about the welds and stuff. The video proved that the geometry wasn't effected that badly
I run the same fork👍
Dude that's awesome! I'm glad I finally got my hands on one!
