- Proving a hardtail mountain bike is all you need - 10 reasons! A hardtail MTB is the only bike you need so I ride my Canyon Stoic on all terrain like trails, jumps, skateparks and urban freeride just to prove it! Would you ride one?
Hardtail mountain bikes seem to get forgotten about when mountain bikers buy a new bike so I thought i'd show these incredibly versatile bikes some love and give you 10 reasons why you should keep or get yourself a hardtail MTB right now! For today's video I'm riding the Canyon Stoic, an aggressive hardtail that sits at the top of the hardtail line up. I was actually surprised how good this bike can handle the big hits and how totally well rounded it actually is, after this video i'd like to say that this bike is slowly stepping up through the ranks and getting closer to becoming my favourite bike!
I hope you enjoy the video!

I don't need to prove it when it's the only kind of bike I can afford LMAO
Sick examples! Spot on! I truly spend all of my mtb riding time on my hardtail. Because all I got is a hardtail. Peace!
same, same.
I broke my rear shock and replaced it with a rigid plastic bar, so it's a hard tail now. Don't really notice that much difference.
@@butsukete1806You do on technical features or big cases
Felt that 😂
I’m
not saying they aren’t good and fun which they are there are just certain features which will be a lot harder which I KNOW because I ride a Relatively cheap ( compared to others ) trek Marin 5 hard tail and it’s good. It can do well on jumps and tech but depending on the drops it can be a little head over heels butt also mines not top of the range so that’s different
im not even into bikes but love your vids!!
The hell mate, first Dr.Campbell now Sam Pilgram? You following me? Jk love your channel too
Yo kev love you're vids
Was not expecting to see kev here! 😂
I was wondering what were you doing here
@@-BoNEz your*
I broke multiple dual suspension bikes while sponsored by GT... even on simple bmx tracks, 1:36 Went back to hardtail and won everyclass and never broke a bike. Was the fastest person on a bike and downhill all done on a hardtail... NZ championship early 2000
Hardtails best for jumping, Also sam: Full Suspension Slope Bike For Junping gotta love this man
I always felt that my hardtail was more fun and easier to ride but I got shamed into buying a full suspension bike. Thanks for affirming my belief and BTW this video was very entertaining
Hardtails are much harder over extremely technical features. Notice how Sam always chooses the smooth options and don't go over heavy roots and rocks.
Don't worry bro, you can always lock up your rear suspension to get that hardtail feel. And don't let people pressure you over any of your choices, after all, it's your money, and not theirs.
Get a lockout rear shock so you can still enjoy the things you did on your hardtail.
I become a hardtail lover because of you n Blake Sampson. God bless you all mate!
Same and Steve (Hardtail Party)
Sam, in an upright riding position, pedaling up a hill, with no eeb 😂 what a rare sight!
1st and only time 😂
It was definitely a moment of wtf am I witnessing
when i started riding i used a hard tail, all i could afford and i used to go to highland bike park all the time with it and hit the trials on the lift and people thought i was nuts but i had a great time and just was not hitting double black trails to often!!! you learn a lot off the feedback they give.
Refreshing to see someone not always pushing the unaffordable ( (to most people) bikes.....loved the video !!!!
I've been bike parking the marin San Quentin 3 in whistler. I feel that the hard tail with a short chain stay helps with breaking power on the rear wheel. Also, it's super short, so you can get behind the rear wheel on the slabs.
Hardtail for life
Great vid as always....iv been rocking hard tails for 50 years...never seen the need for full squish....cheers 🇨🇦
Full squish ha ha 👍
Damn how old are you?
haha

26 and 24 hardtail for dirt, street, 4x, trial, fr, dh, etc are the best, funny and nervous bikes, for hardcore riders 🤘🏼
First trick and I'm already convinced that full sus is better for this. My knees hurt after just watching this xD
Currently my favourite CZcams channel at the moment, great content, can't wait to hit the South downs again on my MTB, the weather has been a proper let down this year
Thanks for all your EPIC videos!! I have a Specialized rockhopper sport with an upgraded air fork, you inspire me to keep sending it!🤠
Takeaways, 1: hardtail is the way to go 2: Sam is really good on a bike 👍
I’m glad I learned on a hard tail but it really like my new full suspension.
thank you for showcasing that can still use hardtail to more extreme stuff. Especially for us that cant afford extra suspension. I am poor and probaly will stay poor. I was feeling, I was missing out a bit. But I seen crazy your videos and this video also explaining it. I can afford become better rider and now can have better attitude. I love pumptracks. I dont know why thought that full suspension was gonna better in all areas. thanks mate.
You are great influence. godspeed
The original rear suspension is extending your legs to let your tire touch first then slowing your inertia thru your legs then you can come down hard on the front shock if you need.
You are my motivation to get back in all aspekts of my life , hope you had a good one bro :) greetings from austria
Thanks for the tips Sam I can now share it with my other MTB friends and loved the video😁. Love for MTB❤
Mad how you can crash half way off up a wall and just laugh 😂😂 keep the videos up sam epic as all ways
All i could afford is a hardtail and I will be using it for trails but i will also be using it to commute to work and I think it's perfect for me.
I was riding on FS bikes for a loong time and got a hardtail a few years back, best decision ever, I learned so much from riding it.
No7; So, a hard tail is better on rough trails, by simply avoiding the rough trails? Sam is a literal genius 😅
Sam you’re 100% right. I’m a proud owner of a Dart Moor Hornet and I love it.
Perfect for riding in the city and X country sessions and it is doing a good job on my home trails as well. Essentially in winter time this is my favourite bike because of robustness and easy maintenance. A hard tail is a must have !
Not sure how I've never found this channel. Great stuff!
Price was a big factor for me. A full-suspension bike within my budget would have been mediocre at best. That, and the fact that I like to climb, made the hard tail the optimal choice for me.
Agreed. I live near pheonix and always take my 29 enduro. This week I rode a mates lads 27.5 hardtail and suddenly ,I was epic. x
The editing and audio was great. Love ya work sam and luie
Heck yeah, Hardtails for the win! I ride a hardtail bike since I started riding 4 years ago and I was able to attack many gnarly trails with it! I love my bike and I know it will give me better skills than if I was on a double since day 1, so I know that when I switch to a double eventually, I'll ride real good :P
Last year I sold my last fullsusp bike and got my now loved 29er HT. Slack with nice trail fork and huge 2.6 tyres. Love it and go for a RIDE RIGHT NOW
What a legend. You're so right. Love the thinking and talk. You've got me convinced. 😂 Maybe these are the reasons why I love bmx bikes so much.
I love my hardtail, I’d like to change out my forks with ones that have more travel. Banger of a clip Sam🤙🏼💣
Love your videos Sam.
I love my hard tail. It was my first bike. Still own it. But my knees just can’t take the hits. I was riding then taking 2 weeks off to recover from the pain. Full suspension fixed that. Still ride my HT to the shops and on tow path rides with the kids.
So for any reasonably challenging trail it’s got to be full sus. But if I could ride hardtail on that, I would.
So for me a hardtail is really not the only bike I need.
love all your vids. you always shred out there
Could you potentially do a full maintenance video on one of your bikes? Or possibly pick up an old bike that needs some TLC and show us you restoring it. Love the vids ✌🏼
Trust me u wouldn't like Sam to service your bike😂 housebricks for hammers
I don't go on a lot of trail riding, but when I do,I like the way, my hardtail lets me feel the rough terrain.
At first my hardtail was just the low budget choice. But when upgrading to a better bike (which I will do eventually) I'm going for a hardtail again.
I luv my trek hardtail, the best for all terrain riding, good all round bike, certainly wouldn't change it for a full suspension bike, fantastic video 👍🚴♂️
Saw the first 10 seconds and completely agreed 😅😂
I love hard tails. Definitely have had seat buzz on the dually. Sam just looks at home on anything he rides. Sick air in the Raptor too Sam. 😎👍
Totally agree. But riding a hardtail comes at a cost. When you go into full-sus territory with a hard tail, it starts to get less comfortable, more demanding on technique and your body and often a little bit slower. If you like challenge and you'll get past those obstacles, you'll gain well deserved bragging rights.
Yep! And, I just started building a Chromag Stylus on a FOX 36 Fit Grip2 27.5. with E-Thirteen 150mm dropper. Need to get wheels and cockpit together!
Like sam makes every vid amazing
totally agree. been riding a dartmoor hornet hardtail for years.
I’ve got Three Hardtail Mountain Bikes, I love them to bits, they are fun to ride and pedal efficient as in you don’t get suspension Bob.. plus they are good for On Roads as well , like a true all rounder !! Good Video Man 😁👍
hi sam, been watching your vids recently and havnt seen many stairsets of doom, I live in Hampshire and when out on a ride near Winchester I went down a stairset of 333 continuous steps with 45 m of elevation down st Catherines hill. Its So Sick. there are tonnes of other natural features and about 3 minutes away are some massive dirt jumps that were famous in the early 2000s. there are cool vids of it on YT.
Bossed it mush.. Well played
I love how you always ride hardcore, any bike ! :D
Have two hardtails. A Norco torrent S1 and a 2009 Norco Manik with a dual crowns on the front. Decided to try a full squish with a difference and got a highly modified/upgraded 2004 Kona Stinky with Boxxers on the front just to be different. Love all of them but get the most fun out of the Manik.
OMG i orderred a Grand canyon 7 last week and it will be here tomorrow. i opted out of the full sus and now i see this. Thanks Sam
ok it might just be my brain, but i feel like the footage looked really good there ! quality feels insane! may be due to less gopro footage. and i also really like that energetic kinda style video with the transitions and stuff going on fast!
Great video, perfect explanation
Awsome! I own a Dartmoor Hornet (Hardtail) and this bike is epic! I just did 6 day MTB Trip at the Austrian Alps with it and it was truly awsome!
Hardtail or bust! I love my hardtails, i hope to be able to ride them as hard as Sam one day!
Yep ! I love my Hard tail it's an urban tank only one puncture and that was my fault so no complaints at all .
More like this please loved the edit
That raptor jump was sick 👍 🍻
Absolutely love my Specialized Hardrock 29er that just recently got a bunch of new upgrades!
HT RULES! 😁 Great vid Sam! Cheers
I've been sending my Sync'r at Highland all summer. Some trails are tough to get through with a hardtail but I like to prove people wrong when they say something is impossible! I've got some cool scars now too!
Great vid Sam ❤
Fantastic riding!
Sam Pilgrim you're an animal. The stunts you do and your humor are hilarious. I appreciate your vids and all your MTB adventures and advice. Your the equivalent of Top Gear show for Mountain Biking. Keep doing what you do. Return to the U.S. for another trip and bike the Northern Virginia/Washington DC area and North East for your next vids! Also I love hardtails this vid was great! Cheers!
And the comment u made is hilarious also😂
I mean the first sentence 🥲
I didn’t even get what you really wanna say at first glance 😂
Best Channel on youtube hands down
Love the vids
Keep it up. 👍
Nice mini-mini edit at number 10!
They definitely polish your skills also. I have one full suspension bike and about 4 hardtails. I love my hardtails!
I love my hardtails. They’re my favorite to ride on everything.
Just an observation. At My local downhill MTB park I was the only one out of probably 80-100 people to ride a hard tail. I’m a beginner so it’s very discouraging especially when my feet felt like they were jumping off the pedals on the rough stuff. Seeing Sam rip makes me more at ease with my choice of bike… for now.
I totally agree with you I daily ride my carrea vengeance in orange daily.
I HAVE BEEN WIATING SO LONG FOR THE STOIC TO BE BACK IN ONE OF THE VIDEOS...FINALLY!
My reasons for still going hard tail is the feeling of pedaling, the maintenace and somehow I know more what the back wheel is doing through the vibrations and immediate feedback. There are places I would have rather have full suspension but they are rare and few between.
Yes yes yea! Preach it Sam, hard tails for the win!
Always said If I could only have one bike it would always be a hard tail, never had anybody agree with me though. Your spot on with all 10
Hardtails are the Dream👌Love my Nukeproof Scout, proper all-rounder 🤙
Thank u making this video i am jealous with high end mountain bikes
Love your energy and the excitment for the good old hardtail. What size frame are you riding? Do you size down so it works better for the pumptracks and skateparks? Cheers!!
Hey Sam you probably won't even read this, but I'm gonna say it anyway. Thanks for great entertaining vids. They're so good. Thanks for not using bad language. I've got my grandson watching your great skills. Plus you don't use the JC as a swear word. Respect Sam lad.
Welcome home 🎉🎉🎉😊
Hardtails are great. I've no interest in racing and riding is all about the experience for me - times be damned. I just have more fun on a hardtail. With so many options now for hardtails, many of which have aggressive geometry, I actually sold my full suspension trail bike in favor of a nicely spec'd Ragley Marley. It's the perfect bike for the trails I ride most often. I have zero regrets.
I LIKE THAT NEON SWATCH
Kona Blast 2019, indestructible bike and it went through hell, changed break pads on it and had a bent rear rotor, thats it.... still runs with the same parts ever since.
That canyon is sick. I have 2 hardtail 29 already but stoic is probably next
i ride hardtail the most for biking for exercise and around city paths/parks/trails. Take my enduro my 27.5 for road trips to ski resort mountain bike trails
Hardtail for hard men. Softtail for soft feeling while charging downhill!
yes! i love my hardtail. can do anything
My men! Hardtails for life
This is actually a really good video
I love my hardtail. I loved the comfort of full sus and some DH trails need it but most of my riding these days is in town and XC paths. Hardtails simply are faster and if you add a spring loaded seat post it helps with the micro bumps up to an 1” travel if your sitting but on hard / fast sections you need to stand.
The best advertising I have ever seen ❤
Legend.
good points made about favouring a hardtail. will you do one of those crazy videos but while riding a bmx on trail i never seen anyone do this before.
Great! I need to learn all what I saw.
I have ragley mmmbop.
It is similar to canyon.
Love it so much.
Hi Sam, funny that you mention stoic as being light. I think is even heavier than many fullies. 😅
just ordered my Roscoe 7 to get into some "proper" MTB. need to learn on it and nail landing jumps because i keep sliding off!
Sick! I was planning to get a Stoic 4 at first but i was curious how a fullsus would feel so i got a Neuron 5 instead 😅, but will definitely save up for a Stoic 4 next 👍
Was about to buy the the really expensive full sus Stitched 720 from your sponsor Canyon. Thanks for changing my mind
Sam if you have not been to Sheffield to ride there are some very good jumps near a place called millhouses park. And a load of tech down hill trails in warncliffe woods, and two very good flow trails in the opposite woods called grenside woods
Yea dawg that’s my bike! It’s been my one and only since the Stoic first came out a couple years ago!
