Daaaang bro, your videos really leveled up lately! Last year when i bought my nucleus, your videos kept coming up in my feed and i always skipped over them, but a year later this video quality is on a whole other level! Keep it up!
Great vid, keep up good work, soon you’ll blow up in the mtb Community!❤️
Love your work mate. Greetings from Aus.
I love your wonderful videos and allowed me to help me a little in my work
The quality of your videos is super impressive
Love the videos! Keep them up!
Just to let you know if you have a straight steerer tube that has an internal diameter larger than ~43mm you can get an adapter headset to use tapered forks.
Also if anyone gets this bike pop some foam o rings and fork oil in the fork!
Oh yeah that bike I gave away had that. Good recommendation!
While your there open up the air chamber of the fork and put some fox float fluid In there.
As per request, in the multiple forks I’ve worked on RL-O dampers don’t absorb the oil and hydrolock.
The choice to remove grease and use oil is yours I hold no responsibility of damage to your fork.
Wow, prices are out of control! I would say hard pass with those specs per $ value. Video quality just keeps getting better and better! Keep up the good work and can appreciate the amount of editing time to produce these quality videos.
Thanks Kevin! I thought this would be an easier video to edit but I ended up having so many cut away shots
You are completely right about the price. It’s been sad, I used to recommend this bike to new riders all the time for bang for buck, but it’s not that anymore. I’m glad I got mine last year before the price shot up. It’s an extremely capable bike. And for a little money can be even more capable.
Sick videos!!! Keep shredding dude!!
Great video. Keep them coming.
What's up D Fish! I'm surprised you'd watch a video of mine about a budget bike after seeing what kind of bike you ride! 😍🤑
Great video! Keep it up!
This was very helpful 🤙🏾
Congrats for the sponsor evan❤️
Appreciate the well done video Evan. I’m mulling over the Vitus Sentier VRS. Would really like your opinion on an aggressive Hardtail in the 1500 dollar(U.S.)
I am so glad I got my Sentier, I got the $1200 model and couldn’t be happier with it for the money. I seat and pedals is the only parts I added. It came with all the stuff to go tubeless in the box.
Early, seems like another great video Evan, I’m watching it right now, a new 2022 Nucleus?! I’m interested!
Super early!
@@EvansMTBSaga Lol thanks! I’m actually up early right now, I should probably go back to sleep! Anyway, I totally agree with you on the pricing, sad! I actually asked Vitus a couple of months back about the Nucleus’ pricing/price increase, lemme know if you’d like to hear their explanation!
Chad would totally buy the new model even with inflation!
Yeah Chad doesn't even look at prices!
Your videos are next level 👍
Thanks Cooper! I love your name Cooper. Trying to convince my wife to name our next baby Cooper 🤞🙂
Those new frame colors look pretty sick.
I completely agree about the inflation amd price. Since you said there's better bikes for the same price, what would you recommend?
Keep going with theses FIRE vids
Haha thanks Will!
Hi Evan,
I have the same Maxis Ardent 2.25 (it doesn’t say TR)on my giant talon 2 and I was able to convert it tubeless with zero issue.
1:16 Just here to spread the good word... ND Tuned makes a straight steerer tube that can be swapped over onto forks with tapered steerer tubes. I converted my Rockshox Sektor to a straight steerer so I could make a 27.5/26 mini mullet and it has worked perfectly.
3:43The tubeless ready Maxxis tyres have TR Logo on them, so you can easily tell if they are tubeless or not.
I just enjoy getting the specs and stuff and I rlly enjoy ur content
Thanks I wasn't sure if people would like this style
I have the 2019 nucleus vr in blue. It’s a blast when I get to ride it
I have a ‘21 Nucleus VR I bought last year. Like you, I wish I had ponied up for the VRS. The new price makes the bike not worth it in my opinion. I still love my bike though. I got a 150mm brand x dropper for $100 which really changed the bike, sold the box 4 for $100 and bought an advent X group set for $200. Going to extend the fork to 120 and call it there until I decide to get my next bike. In 1-2 years the new 2022 Trek roscoes will be around $1200-1500 used so I’ll pick one up
The biggest problem i found with the 2022 nucleus is the choice of crankset , or more specifically the chainring . They have gone with a non standard asymmetric design which will be very difficult and probably expensive to replace . If you ever want to replace the 8 speed Box gears i would budget for new cranks and probably bottom bracket as it doesn't look easy to get a narrow wide 10/11/12 speed chainring for the crank .
Hey evan another good hardtail is a Marin san quentin it has dh oriented geo and bulky tires and a decent fork love the video’s i would recommend the san quentin 2 it has a dropper
I have the sanquentin 2 it’s so good for the money I love it
@@jackn7013 i have it too best Thing ever
I’ve got the three and it’s pretty amazing specs, a bit expensive for a hard tail tho
Yea if if look at the canyon outlet sometimes you can get a really great deal on one of their bikes I got a canyon spectral for only 2k but it was last year’s model. It’s still the best for its price in my opinion
I'm loving my Nucleus VRS! I can't wait to upgrade the front shock!
how are the tyres
@@nestormontagu4718 The inner tubes aren't good. I have slime tubes, I love those if your don't mine the increase in weight and difference in handling characteristics.
I still have my front end tire it does what it's supposed to however I upgraded my rear due to my mom going to an ebike shop to ask if they can remove my tire after i asked her to go to a specific shop that i had gone to before. Anyways they basically tore it and gave it back. So I bought the Vittoria Martello DH Specific tire with my own money. I love it! It has great rotation speed, just the right amount of slide and lean angle super predictable! Just search them up on here hope it helps.
Hey Evan I have the 2021 nucleus and I'm on a tight budget. I was wondering what would be the one upgrade you would do to the bike out of new fork. Brakes or drive train and if so which would you reccomend. I hope to hear back from you. Keep up the good work. Your channel is awesome and has helped me learn a lot. I have a brand x dropper. A Funn Black Ace carbon bar. New renthal kevlar grips and switched out the samox single ring setup for a deore xt crank set after the original samox failed after 7 miles. Currently my bike has had around 18 miles worth of riding so I really need to get it out and smash the trails. Again I hope to hear back from you.
That's hard to say! I think the drivetrain is fine. I'd probably get tubeless tires and valves and do that conversion. You'd see some big improvements, but there is a learning curve with installing tubeless for your first time.
Solid information
Thanks Paul!
I have maxxis ardent tires on my 2017 Kona precept 130 and successfully converted them to tubeless and that hold air so you should try it before you throw it out
$1200 for a bike with old 135mm x 9mm QR rear hub sizing, nah thanks. That’s the one killer for me with last years Nucleus, but the price meant it was a worthwhile compromise. Any bike over $1000 should be up-to-date on sizings and parts compatibility at the very minimum.
You put it really nicely. Maybe one day you can be my writer!
Enjoyed the video, glad I got
Mine last year! How easy is it to change from tubeless ready to tubeless?
If you buy tubeless tires, sealant, and valves, the installation is extremely easy and can be done with just a floor pump
@@EvansMTBSaga thanks Evan! So the stock tyres need to be changed?
Can't wait for the next video
Should be within a week!
I really want to get the 2022 Sentier 27 VRS... Bit over my price range unfortunately but it looks stunning.
2022 VR or 2022 VRS which one would you prefer?? I do like the blue colour,.
I just got a 2021 vrs on the cycle to work scheme here in the uk. It’s £750 here and with some bits I had laying around I’ve upgraded the brakes to deore, changed the grips to Ergons, put the dropper off of my Marin hawk hill on it(upgraded the Marins)a few other bits as well. Will mainly be used to commute to work on but will have some trails on my way home when I can. So far I’ve been really impressed with it for the money.
The red one is awesome! Glad you got that color
Nice upgrades too!
@@EvansMTBSaga tbh I wasn’t sure on the colour in the pictures but it’s really nice in the flesh.
It’s the rear hub sizing that’s a killer for me. I dunno about you, but I cannot find a decent 135x9mm QR rear hub in the UK. Looks like we’re stuck with the trash vitus hub for the life of the bike.
@@Synysterjmz just buy a non boost thru axle and get an adapter that’s what I did when I buy my wife trek marlin. I found so cheap stans wheels and got an adapter that the QR goes through.
Awesome review. I just bought this for £500 new in the UK. Seems like a pretty good deal at that price.
Same 😁
£399 on wiggle
Been looking at these since finding your video, online they have the 2021 vrs for 599 at the minute and the 2022 vrs is 799, would you say the 2022 is worth the extra 200 pounds or shall I stick with the 2021?
It's crazy how much more expensive the nucleus is now. I bought the 2021 version at 650 dollars and can't imagine spending more. Bike is great but if you are serious about mountain biking I would say that the sentier is the better option. Hey Evan love your bike build videos. Would love to see a series of you building a hardtail from scratch and how to find stuff on a budget. Nukeproof scout??? Thx for the great content, keep it up!
That's the frame i'm looking at right now to replace my GT Aggressor Pro frame. I need a tapered head tube, unfortunately I still would end up having to buy a new rear wheel since the Scout only comes with a thru axle rear and my GT is QR, so that's atleast another $100 to go with the $400 frame.
great video! i got a used dh bike (commencal supreme dh 2009) for 800 dollars, it has been so fun to ride and you should try a dh bike on your trails.
I think I wanna do another high low series with a DH bike like yours!
@@EvansMTBSaga that would be a great series, on my bike i can't have a big cassete because the chain rubs on the frame so im stuck with a pretty heavy gearing
The rockshox judy gold is by far the best fork you can get nowadays with a straight steerer tube.
I want to try that one! I liked the Recon when I tried it
Rockshox still makes the Judy and Recon with straight steer tubes
Do we know if the Maxxis Ardent tires are tubless ready yet?
Hi Evan can you please do a review on magura brakes and review a bike from the commencal brand
I'd love to!
You can convert wire bead tires to tubeless.... Most of them. They even seat easier, they just need more sealant and sometimes loose air a bit faster....
Super hard to take off too!
Low Budget Riders Hero !!! 🤣🤣🤣
keep on broo,I love your video..
I'm new at mtb biking btw & I love Hardtails 🔥🔥🔥
have you checked out Wolftick Videos channel, they're all about budget upgrades, at one point 100% of my upgrades were parts they used in their videos. I'm slowly going from budget to mid-tier parts now.
@@NonLegitNation2 thank's for the suggestion bro
@@devissomardianto3444 no problem, hopefully their channel helps you with some future upgrades, plus overall it's a good ass channel ran by some good dudes (a dad and son) and as a plus they actually take the time to respond to almost every single comment.
ahh... vitus brings back lots of memories
i would consider the 2021 xtrada 7 to be the best budget hardtail cuz for less than 1000 bucks you get a 12 speed drivetrain, mt200 brakes, boost thru axles front and rear and a tapered head tube
Wow, thanks for mentioning this one, it's even on sale right now for $919. Looks like front fork is non boost, only downside I can see - but far more important you are correct, rear is 148 thru axle, front can always be changed with a fork swap if needed.
@@Zimpo79 I know and keep in mind if you are over 5'9 the medium would be borderline small
What did you do with the yari fork and the box groupset on the nukeleus
Don’t we just love inflation…
Which is better Vitus Nucleus VRS 2021 or Kona fire mountian?
Have you ever seen berd spokes, I think they would be cool to put on your expensive vs budget bike series
Haha I've seen them and almost bought some for the wheelset on the High bike but they're so expensive haha
I currently have the hot rod red virus nucleus I have done some upgrades like tires a dropper post grips and pedals and I want to upgrade the fork but I don’t know what fork I was wondering if u have recommendations
Rockshox makes decent forks for a reasonable price as far as straight steerer goes. I put a 30 gold on my old 2019 Talon 2 and it was amazing, tuned it to 120mm of travel. I know ride a 2022 Chameleon MX for my hardtail, that came with a recon, again another affordable form but that is an example of a tapered fork.
The youth 26 is £100 more this year. Glad I got my son his last year, and the colour is nicer in red. Also my wife's 27.5 is mega money in the 2022 range!!! Mega price hike or what! But Rob Warner's sponsorship is worth it 👍
It's really sad because I don't think prices will come down ever
No they wont. The nucleus was amazing value for money.
You’re not stuck using straight steerer tubes on a straight head tube. As long as your head tube has a 44mm diameter you can fit a EC44/40 lower cup to fit a tapered fork. Bikes like the Marlin or Rockhopper can benefit from this. Also, a lot off high end steel frames come with this setup.
I think the giveaway bike had that size !
Yeah the price has definitely changed, thanks for making these amazing videos I'm trying to start my own CZcams channel do you have any tips?
Yeah dude! The best advice to a starter is pick a niche. Mountain biking is general is too broad of a niche. Do you want to build bikes like me, review bikes, trail build, or GoPro trail ride? Also keep your video intros short. I'm talking 10-20 seconds maximum
@@EvansMTBSaga Thanks for the advice, it is cool to be able too talk to fellow mountain biking youtubers to get advice!
Oh, and for me I would like to trail build and do GoPro edits.
Leaving a like for support. Don't have much to say about this topic as I'm not in the market for a new mtb.
Haha thanks for watching and the support! Super cool of you
hi what do you think the best bike is I could go for around this price was look at this vitus nucleus vr giant talon 4 or 3 gt and the Ghost Kato Advanced 29 is on offer for £500 I'm not going to be racing just want something that I can ride around forest trails nothing to extreme
Just ordered 2021 model vrs for £599 free delivery uk. couldn't see where the extra money was on the new model your vid let's me know I chose right
The vrs29 at the moment in the uk is £549 and the vr is 449 , is the vrs worth the extra £100 or is there anything else around this price that you think would be better ? Cheers
If you re looking at project hardtail or anything consider canyon stoic 2 or any of them they come with thruaxles boost hubs tr tires great geo and dropper post compatible i would love to see what kinda builts you could do it would be interesting
I was thinking about mentioning that bike in this video as an alternative!
@@EvansMTBSaga mate i recently bouth it and im amazed with how much did i get with that amount of money i was considering a ht from vitus , marin bikes ,or used market but i think i made the right decision with some sealant on the tyres some new brakes and a dropper the bike shreds... Love the contet btw
this video is awesome
Thanks Andres!
The new vitus nucleus looks amazing
Hey Evans is cube aim pro 2021 good bike?
Like button smashed
You just made a puppy happy
To compare, I got a similar hardtail for $950 at a bike shop in 2018. Marin nail trail 6. So $1200 is an ok price on a trail ready bike in 2022 . I had to get tubeless ready tires, and add a dropper to my hardtail .
That's a good point. I feel like it's better, in 2022, to try and find your same 2018 used and go that route
the new Vitus be lookin fresh
New color schemes look cool!
Hey I’ve been a subscriber for a while and am wondering if you could give your opinion on the Marin San Quentin 2 because I have that bike
Looks like an amazing bike! A little expensive for my liking. Great aggresive geometry, good components. Glad you have a sick bike!
@@EvansMTBSaga thanks
@@EvansMTBSaga the price did go up at least $100 since u bought it but I’m sure your familiar with inflation and shortage’s
brings back old memories.
Right!
@@EvansMTBSaga Daaaang you actually answered, wow thats quite impressive.
That is true! Good deal!
i love your vids
Thanks Owen!

Great video very helpful and the only video about the new 2022 models
Thing is since I'm in the UK it's only £650 with free shipping which is around £50 more than the last model also I will be buying the new VR model
Oh nice! That's still a good deal then! Pumped for the UK
Hey badluck did you buy the new VR model? I'm interested in buying not sure whether to buy the vrs instead for £680 on sale at the moment, but I do like the blue colour of the VR
@@TheAdamant87 did you buy one? I’m thinking about getting one but dunno whether to get the vr for 550 or vrs for 680?
Which is better 2021 vr or 2022 vr? Or much the same?
Hey i have a nice full sus but i have an polygon Xtrada 7 i bought it for sgd1200
A air fork both thru axle a 12 speed shimano drivetrain and shimano brake ill definitely recommend you get one more value.
Agreed. That is a good deal!
What would be the best bikes for that price tag then? I’ve been considering a Vitus nucleus vrs or a Sentier but now I’m not so sure
Go for the used market or a Polygon Xtrada 7 is a great buy right now
I just bought the vrs and its set to artive in the next few weeks what is anyone elses experience with it
I recently saw Rose bikes announced 10% price increase. But double or more that's crazy. Agree not a good buy, better roptions exists.
To be honest the grey looked the best but it still looks good
Yas love this channel
Thanks Tom!
Can I recommend something to you
But Evan, there’s PLENTY of forks with str8 steerer tube!
I already got it from wiggle. Absolutely amazing all pro's and no cons. My favourite bike yet
Wow you really got one the first ones in the world!
@@EvansMTBSaga had it 4 days now and probably done 100 miles on it. Fantastic bike. Just may change the tyres to something a little softer
Which bike did you choose the VR or The VRS I'm gonna buy one just not sure what to get yet,I think I prefer the blue VR
@@TheAdamant87 VRS look better
Not all ardent tires are wire bead, same as all maxxis tires you can choose between wire and foldable
Nice bike
can anyone help me out i just purchased this bike, what size valves will i need to make it tubeless?
In Philippines 700 dollars you can buy a mountain bike with carbon frame and shimano deore 6100 group set and airfork
Hi idol im from ph. One of your subscribers 😘 . Uhhm do you have extra fork ? Like coil .?. cause my bike need fork to ride again 😔😔🙏🙏🙏 please 🙏🙏🙏
You should get the Kona fire mountain
Man that price hike is hard to see. It makes sense with all that is going on but even said that is very very high. I’ll be able to afford a 1k bike one day lol
My height is 177 cm would you recommend M or L for Vitus Nucleus 27 VR 2022?
External headset cups generally helps frame with straight tube to accept tapered forks.
It is called EC44= external cups 44mm(inside diameter of the headset tube). It extends bottom of the headtube for 1cm~ and allows bearing to sit in the cup with wider internal diameter for tapered fork.
Disclaimer, If the head tube internal width without the cup is less than 44mm (34mm is also common). It can't accept the tapered steerer tube.
34mm top and bottom head tubes are designed to use the straight steer tubes with external cups. Inner width of the cup bearings are around 30mm~.
Yeah, I don’t know why he’s spouting nonsense about straight steerer tubes. High end steel frames still use a 44mm head tube and use a EC44/40 lower cup.
I think my Chromag had 44mm!
Try out the marin san quentin 1
Hiya I have a Vitus nucleus hardtail VR 2021 model so would I have a tappared fork and head tube if I wanted to upgrade in the future and also If I did would I need a new front hub to get a threw axel?
You can find a fork with a tapered head tube and through axle drop outs. Rockshox Judy, Rockshox Recon, Manitou Markhor are all some that come to mind
