Enduro Vs Trail Suspension Fork | What's The Difference?

- The line between trail riding and enduro riding is becoming increasingly blurred; despite this, different component options are available to suit different styles of riding. One such component, your fork, handles damping duties at the front of the bike. In this video Trail Blake, Enduro Blake, and the Trail Angel are using suspension pioneers RockShox's new Pike and Lyrik Signature Series trail and enduro forks in the loamy heaven of the Surrey Hills; challenging them to climbs, descents, and big hits.

Each fork is available in three different models; the Ultimate and Select+ feature the all new Charger 2.1 damper (the Ultimate also gets the RCT3 compression adjustment). The Select model has RC2 high and low speed compression adjustment. All models of the forks feature SKF wiper seals and Maxima Plush damping fluid to keep them running smoothly. Both wheel sizes are covered and there is a choice of two offsets to suit modern geometries. The Pike is available in 10mm increments from 120mm to 160mm of travel; whilst the Lyrik covers longer travel duties, 150mm to 180mm, again in 10mm increments.

Blake is quite easily the best host of all the bike networks. hands down
I have the biggest man crush on him.
Absolutely
What about Seth bike hacks ?
"Blakes" not "Blake".
FROST Seth doesn’t really make videos in the presenter format, he doesn’t have a cameraman or talk to the viewer while recording. It just isn’t his style, he does well with his many other talents like writing/narration, storyline, editing, versatility, cinematography, ect ect
These editors have way too much fun here at GMBN!
Definitely shout out for GMBN editors!
Agreed, got a good amount of chuckles and laughs from this end XD
Unfair comparison. You should switch riders and see how they perform. I bet Trail Blake on enduro bike would destroy Enduro Blake on trail bike.
Great video btw.
O.o? Did you really not notice? All 3 dudes in this video are exactly same dude! ROFL. It's called trick video editing and blue screening.
See when the two blakes are standing side-by-side. He really has done 1 video of the first bike, Then later switched clothes and bike later in time, and record in same exactly scene area but inches away. Then with video editing, He can 'clone' both videos together to make it seem like Video 1 and video 2 are in 1 video and responding to eachother. But really aren't.

Kn P freeride and all mountain aint dead
If doing pure down hill get a stronger bike because your gonna need it anyway a trail bike is all 3 made lighter to suit all spectrums you can do downhill on a trail bike but the suspect might bottom out on a trail bike on big bomb jumps

Blake vs Blake is always the best
kinda get the sense that Blake talks to himself all the time, so this was easy for him :)
Still missing Slopestyle Blake and DH Blake :D
I love split personality blake
waiting for four blakes next episode :)
which of them do you mean?
@@jxtproductions2584 Not sure, each Blake seemed to be pretty consistent in their own personality... I hope he doesn't think they're all the same or something
Funny thing is there isn’t that much of a difference. Trail bikes and enduro bikes are more similar than any other types of bike. Blake on either (any) bike will kick my ass on either (any) bike on any terrain.
kinda what i was thinking geometry will have a bigger difference than 20mm
@@connormcguire8439 Yea except I bet geo isn't really that different between the two bikes. I'd guess (so probably wrong) about a degree or two difference in head angle, with a similar seat tube angle BB height reach, and chain stays. I bet if I were to ride both bikes I could feel a difference considering both geo and suspension, but my times on most terrain wouldn't be that different. Who knows though @Global Mountain Bike Network, get it touch so we can figure this out!
@@connormcguire8439 thats what she said
@@Planet9_music yes it is.
To me, both of those travel bikes ride totally different. The 150 is much more lively and nimble and the 170 is more of a monster truck that plows. Both have strengths and weaknesses but are both awesome.
I want to see Blake ride these same sections on a 100mm travel hardtail xc bike.
Emphasis on XC, his nukeproof is cool but how would one tackle those sections (correctly) on a true xc race machine?

I think that Blake has an identity crisis
The industry has gone crazy. Now a 130mm ful sus, with trail geometry from 2018 is considered a xc bike by some people.
Not really, I'd definitely put that into the trail bike category
The main reason is that xc races are becoming more technical in the descend
Depends on the geometry so for example a transition scout, it has 130mm of travel but isn't classed as an xc bike
@@benasquith26 the scout has 150mm up front though
For some people everything without a double crown is a XC Bike 😅
Is 150mm short travel? I'd have said 120mm is short travel.
Try 60mm travel like my hybrid bike or 100mm like my xc bike.
@@bobbyhempel1513 I rode an 100mm for almost a year. 👍
150mm is long travel in my opinion
150 is short travel.
I definitely approve this message!
I'd say 150mm is on the higher end.
Blake vs Blake is always a great time. Love his comedy, and props to the camera and editing crew as well.
150mm is a short travel fork?
Always entertaining with Blake though
alfyboy01 Compared to 180 or 200 it is short 🤷🏻♂️

Its a full time job for a part time biker to keep up with all the mtb info these days!! But never get tired of multi-Blakes!!!
I LOVE THESE BLAKE VS BLAKE SERIES!!! Big kudos to the editors that bring the best out of Blake!

Super nice edit. GMBN always brightens my day!
I love this series. Thank you, Blake and Editors! Awesome work.
Multiple Blake videos are the best. Always look forward to these. Another awesome video and cheers from the US/MX border
Great job to the production crew on this one, Excellent editing and story-driven video is badass !! Great job Blake on your acting career.
Always love watching Blake. Videos are always entertaining - fun to watch bike/part comparisons in formats like this
These Blake vs Blake videos are absolutely brilliant, and are not only educational but super humorous! The addition of Blake to the already top crew at GMBN was/is genius. The guy cracks me up; wish I knew him personally and could share a pint with him regularly.
No need to watch mountain bike videos by others...GMBN, baby!
I feel like 160 is the really happy medium! If your unsure of how much travel you need, less is probably more!
Blake arguing with Blake while listening to Traigle Blake might be the best thing since Charlie The Unicorn
150 vs 170? Go 160. Lowest enduro travel, highest trail travel = great all arounder !!
That's what I did
I think 150 is the lowest enduro travel
Most of the riders out there are a bit overload with 36s and Lyriks
@@livefreeandshred9818 27.5 160 29er 150 will be enough

Awesome production! I usually enjoy watching the POV, but this is the future! Great guy, great camera action, great editing, great story. I don't usually give props, but that's an amazing crew. Nice job! Have fun!
Thanks Trail Fairy you have taken a bike test and video editing to another level, Fantastic riding you Blakes
150 vs 170 not much different should have tried a shorter travel trail bike 130 or 140.
Remember the time when 140 was for enduro:)))
120mm on a 29er is pretty capable with a good rim/tire combo.
I am riding with a few spacers, 3/4 of 5.
Front tire is in dh casing, helps a lot.
If youre good with such a bike, you will be killing it on a 160-180mm one
When Blake calls me “you beautiful people” I blush every time
Big points Blake!! Most entertaining host in MTB broadcast!!

These edits and 2 way conversations are amazing
Super super cool video! I like the editing a lot! In my area where I live Raleigh NC the 150mm is where it's at for me... plenty good.
150 or 140 is the sweet spot for me so ya I agree
Trail Angel made me spit out my coffee. That was hilarious. Great demo on the 2 forks.
Cheers Jay! Hope it was informative 👍
Kinda reassured me i was in the right trail, track. On the right track. Keep it up guys. Im always looking forward to your videos. Very informative and smacked with humour.
You guys (backround guys incl.) have such an amazing energie. Lovely vibes and it’s so much fun to watch, THANKS
Thank you! Great video on how fork/bike selection translates to the ride experience across different terrain, especially park riding high speed jumps one after the other. Match the bike to the task. Simple ... and expensive because one may need multiple bikes.
Hi Blake. Thank you for the video. As always mega interesting. Could you tell me what size wheel do you prefer for trails/ bit of jumping and xc?
Everytime I watch a gmbn video all I want to do is get out on my bike

The best personality in MTB must be Blake hands down. There is nothing better than hearing "Welcome back you beautiful people!" everytime you open a GMBN vid.
Ohhh I recognise those trails...... The Hills ❤️❤️

My favourite new GMBN TRIO. Can't wait for more of therse guys!
For me, either would do me fine. Currently I am on a 100mm travel hardtail with a cheap coil fork that pops/springs up as I go off jumps.
7:36 You can see a line down between both Blakes for the editing. The others were pretty solid though. 😉
Blake is a great teacher and exudes happiness all the time, hes really great to watch 😫👌👌 I'd love to be coached by him man itd be so sweet
Very very much effort put into the video...one of the most entertaining vids ever
Trail Blake should have used a trail bike! 130/140max travel, not a soft enduro vs. Hard-core enduro.... so didn't really like the video, as I think the bikes are too similar....
9:36 Everything you need to know to get Up To Speed on trail forks!
Great vid Blake👍 Nice to see you in the surrey hills!
This guy is a gem. What an Intro! :D
Looks like some of my favourite bits of the Surrey Hills 👍🏽
Although those jumps on Northern Monkey are way too big for me 😂
Haha, he kept calling 150mm short travel. I know it was the shorter of the two, but that's pretty silly sounding when I'm riding a truly short travel full sus with 80mm front and back
Agree, I have a 100mm XC FS bike and I kept chuckling in my head whenever he called that bike a short travel one 😅
Haha same, what bike do you ride
I'm riding a 1996 Litespeed OBED F/S. It's a really early Horst link full sus design, with a titanium front triangle and aluminum rear triangle. The rear suspension triangle was built by AMP Research, and is the same as the old AMP B2. The frame is the only original hardware, I've replaced every other component, including the shock. Still 80mm travel front and back though. The modern fork is already longer than the old one in terms of crown to axle, so I was worried that adding any more travel would change the geometry too much. I love riding this old beast, and I've taken it down some steep, tech trails with drops up to like 2 or 3 feet. It's also set up for bikepacking. You can have a lot of fun on old bikes. That said, I demoed some new ones recently, and the technology has come a long way in 20 years. I feel like I don't want to push my old warhorse any harder, so I think it is time for a new bike that I can really get rowdy on. I'm feeling really drawn to the new kinds of hardcore hardtails, like the ragley blue pig. Something with a 140ish fork, long-low-slack geometry, and probably 27.5+/29er options. I can tell that the geometry out my current bike was really just a minor change from road bike geometry. It's from the truly early days of MTB design.
How about you Kelvin, what's your steed?
We all know it’s a “relative”term. Kinda like when an NBA has its “short” lineup out on a court, and the players range from 6-3 to 6-7; short, ha!
More substantive here is the difference between enduro and trail bikes for different conditions and what causes the differences.
GMBN rocks!
Yah my bike suspension broke so it’s locked I’m saving for new bike
The Surrey Hills are amazing, such a great range of trails in a beautiful area. Great video guys, hope to see more vids in the Surrey Hills!
It’s a great take on the ride differences that you can feel on bigger vs smaller travel bikes. I did a ride on a Nomad version 3 and it needed to be at Mach 3 hitting big stuff before it felt like it was coming alive. If you don’t have that terrain on your door step it can feel like the bike does it all as you are a passenger.
Love these vids even tho I ride a 27.5+ hardtail !🙂
Me too. I find I can ride pretty much anything I want on a hardtail. Granted its gonna be slower over the big stuff but its still fun, just in a different way.
Get a 150 mm lyrik because it is the stiffer than a 150 pike and more heavy duty.
Nobody beats Blake! Hopefully he never leaves GMBN!
The editing is AWESOME!!
I ride my 130mm 5010 quicker down all the trails I was riding 5-10 years ago on my 200mm dh bike with ease 🤷🏼♂️, rider skill and strength go a long way to putting a bike down a trail
And there is me with 100mm Suntour :(

Great vid Blake. You answered questions I had. Thank you.
Great video editing! Love this channel!!!
Who else wants to see a bike check on Blake's Canyon Torque.
This is not a good compare. You had to compare a lyrik vs revelation. A 150mm.pike is almost an enduro fork, or it was until they recovered the lyrik. Both are 35 mm stanchions. You have to compare a 32mm 120-140 fork with the lyrik. But I love they way you do you videos Blake.😃
I agree, i had a Revelation on my old genius and I replaced it with a marzocchi 55. It's really like night and day.
Federico Testa i jumped from a 130mm revelation to a 140 mm pike tuned to 150mm and MRP ramp up dial, and the difference is as you said noghr and day. If you compare it with a factory 170 lyrik the difference is huge.
your videos are always so absolutely well-produced!
Glad you like them!
This is such a good video! Great editing skills!

Decent video, the short travel definitely looks snappier.. I like the smoothness and higher ability of a 170 fork. It still climbs! What bike park is that film in?
Don´t These Bikes Have Suspension Lock?
Climbs Would Be Piece Of Cake With Clips And Hardtail.
They are heavy forks. Even lockout is not 100% locked out.
Actually you don't want to lock your fork on a technical climb or it will get harder and the front might lift up . On long smooth terrain I guess it could help...
Elliott-MTB you don’t have to lock them out, most forks have a mid/trail mode
Um... I am afraid to say that i can't relate with this video. My rockshock pike is lengthened to 160mm or travel.
The new iteration of the Pike is still available in 120-160mm in 10mm increments :)

Call me crazy but.... a 150/170 Pike and Lyrik are both high end enduro forks? Yari/Revelation and Reba are more trail forks between 120 and 140. Weird comparison.
I thought I wanted an Enduro bike until watching this Video. Thanks for coming up with it. For what I ride 90% of the time a Trail bike would be better.
