Which is faster - an Audi R8, or an all-electric Audi Dakar rally car? Well, we’re about to find out! But first, let’s look at the stats…
Starting with the rally car, it's got a carbon fibre body, along with two motors taken from a Formula e car! So it must be pretty powerful, right? Well, these cars have a limited power output, so it normally only produces 340hp! However, with the flick of a switch we’re able to increase the power output, so once we’re racing it’ll put down 680hp!!
It's also equipped with a small motor at the back to help regen power into the battery, so as a result, its weight is pretty similar to the e-tron GT - around 2,200kg.
It’s a good thing the rally car can increase its power output, as we know the R8 is equipped with something pretty special… a glorious 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10! Powering all four wheels, the V10 can put down 620hp and 580Nm. It’s also a whole lot lighter than the rally car, weighing in at 1,560kg.
So, will it be an easy win for the rally car? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

We’re used to seeing these vehicles in context, it’s so cool to see them on a normal road next to a “normal” (super) car like the r8, and really get a sense of how insane, everything about them is, the looks, the sound, the performance, everything
The combination of the DTM engine and the V10 sounds so good!

Eh, it’s something that I’ve been saying they should implement into cars years ago, using an ICE engine essentially just as a generator for the electric motors. But in reality this idea has been used for decades in locomotives and off road haul trucks. All diesel electric locomotives have been this way since the 1950s-60s
Still, even if Audi didn’t really come up with any new ideas here, it still does look pretty damn cool lol

Other benefits to that this type of design is that there are absolutely zero concerns of battery overheating, maximum power output, battery degradation, or extremely long charging times.
Pretty much eliminates every single one of the drawbacks and downside that affects every single EV, all while retaining pretty much all of the benefits that ICE vehicles have to offer.

I must admit, the philosophy and design of this setup would be awesome on the next RS4/RS6. Paired with the 3.0t and 4.0t respectively. It would be a good way to give them crazy power.
nah, that dtm engine is purely for recharging. they would eliminate that engine in a heartbeat if there is a slight chance one battery can last an entire leg. but imagine a toned down version of this mgu mated to transmission so its power can stack on the v6 or v8

The Audi RS Q etron Dakar SUV is a sure a heck of a thing , it has so much disadvantage like power to weight ratio , no summer tyres , bad aerodynamics and drag coefficiency and a speed limiter, and still it beat a modern more power efficient supercar , it would be a beast if Audi made it road legal

Keep in mind with the electric vehicles you have full hp if you have over 70% charge in your batteries bellow that cars hp drops dramatically. With the combustion engine you have full hp until your have empty fuel tank .
