"Why The Tour de France Is The Only Cycling Race You Know...if you are American"
@Diyotama press x to doubt
I thought exactly the same when I saw the video title
@@riquelmeone Grande Riquelme!
I was a bit puzzled, but then I realised it came from the same series as
"Why you only known 10 countries"
"Why you only know 1 football, sorry soccer player"
"Why you can't figure out SI units"
"Why you can only count till 10"
Or anyone with zero interest in cycling like me.
Me, a cycling fan that knows all the cycling races:
đïžđđïž
You gotta represent
Hahaha yup
Yep
Nah, shit sport
POintless POints ok, nobody asked
My most memorable moment is memory. I used to spend summer vacation with my grand parents in their friend's house in the French countryside in the late 90's and early 2000's. The afternoon were too hot so we would stay inside, as the old house remained cool all day long. After lunch Grandma would seat in the living room watch some soap opera, while grandpa was napping. Around 3pm Grandpa would join us and turn on the Tour as there was nothing else to watch. Grandma would knit and we would just pass the hours following from the race with half-distracted eyes. That's how I got started. The Tour became a tradition for me, a way to pass the time in otherwise empty summers. In my teens after I had stopped spending the whole summer with my grandparent I would still devote whole afternoon the race stages, sipping on diet coke as the race went along.
I stopped watching in my late 20's after I felt I had less time to devote to the pass-time and the overall sense that I wasn't as interested as before. My Grandpa passed away some years ago and I have spend a summer with him in ages. Grandma is now senile and there are so much more options for background noise than a cycling race with participants who names would be lost on her anyway before the end of the stage. But the memory persists of Grandpa, Grandma and I spending the afternoon in front of the TV set in the countryside summer house.
Something a lot of french kids can relate too. Staying inside during the burning hot afternoon of South France summers and watching the Tour de France religiously with the grandparents.
In which part of france was this countryside house?
Me: could probably list off another 30 cycling races
Also me: watches the video anyway
Literally
This is one of the best sports journalism channels I have come across!
100% this.
This and tifo. Tifo is very linked to the athletic, uses their articles and sponsors them.
Itâs awesome content but calling it journalism is generous!
This is nothing dude .....
This and Tifo Football are one of the best.
Editing just gets better and better
If you like their editing, watch "como ha dicho". It's an Argentinian channel, but their editing is amazing.
@@lucaspiputto633 Will check it out thanks!
What programs they use for editing?
Cycling fans looking at the title like: ???
đ
true xD
I remember how my family and i went to every single stage to watch it live while my dad woke up at 4-5am every morning to ride every single km of the tour. good memories
Your dad a badass for sure! Must have made some great memories for you and your family :)
From time to time Giro and Vuelta are even more exciting to watch (Depends on participating teams/favourites of course). They have plenty of potential mountain stages. Take Monte Zoncolan or Alto de Angliru for example.
I know around 100 cycling races... then again, I donât know much else đ
Best sports channel on youtube by far. It's not even close
Tifo football is also good if you are a football fan
@@josephct3556 The athletic is the best place to read about football on the internet.
Lovely video, great editing / animation. Strategy and Mediatization bit was really cool. Do something on Formula 1 please!
@yo lo you don't have to watch it bud
He did
Why does France hold so many other international sport event status? LeMans, FIFA, FIBA, Paris-Dekar?
They did it first
France has allways want to be seen as the diplomatic country. we losse economicaly against USA so we star after the 2nd War to be the diplomatic country. Sport event are a pure diplomatic issue.
@@arthurfinidori609 Actually sports made more for US or USSR (while it existed) and some smaller countries diplomacy and their soft power than our's. Le Tour is clearly THE exception and perhaps the only undisputed worldwide event clearly linked to France that matters. The 24h du Mans could have been too, but it's rather a niche thing. The truth is what was once our main diplomatic marker and asset, the "exception française", had barely been upheld by sports compared to other cultural and historical attributes.
@@Thorpal i did anderstand all lol
but yes
Also the FIA, IOC, modern olympic games, Ballon D'or, Champions league, Euro, World Cup...
All the people in West Europa knows more events đ€
yeah because we in the central and eastern europe dont have tv, go fuck yourself pig
@@nemanjamanutd lol no, because every country has a very big cycling event. Classics OR Great Tour.
And in Colombia too. It's a popular sport here
@@nemanjamanutd chill bro, his answer simply implied that most events take place in Western Europe (Belgium, France, Italy, Spain etc..), so western europeans know more than just Le Tour.
He didn't say we knew more than you guys do ;)
Peace
Iâm Canadian and I now them all
One of the best channel right now on CZcams
amen to that
I have become addicted to your channel. Great editing, research and superb storytelling. Keep them coming.
Always looking forward to your videos. You guys are the best, with Tifo football.
What an awesome video! This channel is truly underrated!
Terrific content and production quality. All killer and no filler. Top job! đđŹđ§
freut mich, dass dein Channel so schnell wÀchst! Hast es dir verdient. Jedes Video ist phÀnomenal.
The videos get better every time! Love them, keep it up!
Great video very elaborate and instructive :D
Two important points.
1. The ASO has a cunning business model, yes, and part of that is because the riders are barely paid. Despite all the revenues, the first prize purse is 500,000 euros (typically shared between an 8 man team) which has not changed in about 20 years. Sports with similar viewership pay out several million for 1-2 week events (see golf, tennis)
2. It is actually not particularly easy for a casual fan to understand a randomly selected Tour de France stage. Unless the GC leaders have decided to go for the stage win, a given viewer will typically tune in and see a breakaway gunning for the finish, the race leaders well behind, and all sorts of other people making not so easily understood moves for various other competitions within the race. I would say actually cycling is one of the hardest sports to understand and become invested in especially on a one-off basis in a stage race.
This channel is simply outstanding. The best in sports marketing by far. Congrats to the master mind behind this.
its very informative and very entertaining as well. good job!
Nice video and great quality
A very qualitative and informative video as always
Very good and interesting content. Keep it up đ
i have been a subscriber since you had less than 1000, and i told all my friends you will be famous one day! Great work keep it up
You guys are top tier. Deserve the same respect & support as Tifo.
I really love your voice over broâ€ïž

I am a huge cycling fan love to see this videos!!
I like how he disses on the Vuelta as if it was a competitor when itâs actually owned by the same company
What a amazing content ! Your videos are so qualitative !!
PS : Bonjour de France đ«đ·đ„đ
I'd love to take a course on how you guys edit! Videos keep getting better and better. Would be great to hear how you learnt all the tricks...?
Loved the Intro.
2:22 can we just talk about how great that picture is?
belongs in a frame
amazing video
Athletic Interest and Tifo Football are just on another level compared to other CZcams channels related to sports information
For me the most memorable moment is Contador's attack vs Andy Schleck on Mont Ventoux , when he lost his chain on the bike losing the yellow jersey
This channel keeps delivering the goods đ
Godspeed Athletic Interest
Me: a cyclist who is already racing and having a knowledge about cycling races đ đïžđđïžđ
true xD
Love from the east coast, love the cylcling videos just what I need to get it going the blood I love it. I always watch these before I go out and get my body moving. I always watch one of these, and then put up my heavy playlist like Delta Parole, Three Days Grace, System and then I just go haaaaard!!!! Tactic hasnt let me down yet.
This channel deserves more subscribers
You're already the number 1 sport channel in CZcams
As a french, the Tour has always been in the background of my life and I can't dissociate it from the summer vaction memories I have from my Grandparents.
wow, i never tought of that... this is brilliant
Top top Content!
Love the video but also Iâm the guy that gets up at odd hours to stream Milan San Remo and other races đ
I've followed tifo football for a while now but just discovered Athletic Intrest and damn this is a goldmine too!
Amazing man, try to make one of juste the ASO or Dakar
This channel deserves 10Ă more subscribers
When I was a kid I used to watch this tournament with my father đ€
Before I watch cycling, I did knew some big one day races such as Ronde van Vlaanderen and Paris Roubaix, because I live in Belgium aka "the heart of cycling" Lance's words
great job.
Most memorable moment for me: Watching Thor Hushovd in 2011, He had the yellow for a few days, the polka dot and won a mountain stage.
That tour was amazing. I'm still mad Andy did not win đ
Love this channel and Love this video, but I am also a cycling fan so the title is a bit wrong ;)
And it is also false for anyone in Spain and Italy
But would you say that the Tour de France is the most famous one ? As French obviously I know this tour better but I always thought that for Spanish people for example, the Vuelta was more famous.
Also everyone in Colombia knows almost every race.
@@juangomez1704 Colombia doesn't have a national cycling race as famous as the ones in Europe, but they do have great athletes so it makes sense.
Quality content After Quality Content đđđđ
One video that could really be interesting is how the MLS is growing and why more international players are going to it. I feel like in Europe we are not really talking about it (maybe because of the 5 leagues)
Awesome!
I love the newspaper design
My Favourite Channel
I have never watched a Tour de France, Next year will be marked in my calendar for surd, im so excited
It's on now if you want to watch
These guys should have millions of subscribers
Pawel Poljanski showing his Veiny legs after tour de France is the first think that comes in my mind after i hear tour de france
Title on point
Me a cyclist in Canada thinking the tour was a one-day event that nobody cared about
Rest of the world: Um no
Making a trip around France in a day đ keep being the same mate đ
being from richmond virginia, i only know about the tour de france and that one time they did the UCI championship(?) race here đ
Eddy Merckx!!! The best đ§đȘđ§đȘđ§đȘ
The quality of this content is too good for youtube
Your french accent is actually surprisingly good!
The Tour de France is the biggest event, but the Giro d'Italia, Paris-Roubaix, Strade Bianche,
are only watch by cyclist fans.
Le critérium du Dauphiné, le paris nice....
Paris-Roubaix đ l'enfer du Nord like we say in France
"Damn that's a beautiful chapel"
My most memorable moment is when the Gran Egan Bernal won the Tour. I'll never forget that moment! đđâ€
Idk why, but there is just something about Tour de France. I just get a different kind of excitement compared to other cycling events.
Professional Cycling is faaaaaaar from being easy to understand! I would even say, that it's one of the most complex sports there are.
Giro, Vuelta, German, Swiss ... just came here to say you wrong!
Don't forget the UAE tour. Oh wait, it's the most forgettable.
Francis Schofield And tour of guangxi
I always wondered, why I am only hearing about tour de france and not the others
lmao i thought my screen was broken during the intro
Amazed to de core
Do something on ufc
Yess
I went to the Tour in 1991. It was everything I hoped it would be.
I would like to know how much the teams and riders get of pie.
Most watched sport by non sports fans? I am thinking, the Football World Cup Final is the single biggest Sporting âoccasionâ in the world.
I think he should say "Annual". Olympics and World cup get more viewers but are only every 4 years.
What are the dates for Tour de France?
Will the next video be about Tottenham or mourihno
2:33 the tour lasts 21 days - itâs a three week event.
He was talking about the expansion from 6 to 15 stages a 100 years ago. How he uses the word "now" creates the confusion.
