  • How did your fishing journey begin? When was the last time you gave it any thought? You are cordially invited to spend a few minutes with me today fishing on memory lane. We all have different stories with mostly the same endings....we get hooked more than the fish does.

My first memories of fishing are with my great grandmother who lived with my grandparents on a farm. I would stay with them on the weekends and we had cane poles and we would go dig up worms and walk down to the "cow pond" and fish for brim and bass. Take them back to the house and fry them up in pan for supper. Thanks for sparking a great memory. Bought a tear to my eye.

@monzsterman you are welcome and thank you. It made me feel good to hear that you took the time to recall that and it moved you. That was the goal. Thanks for sharing that great memory! I'm gonna have to search for a video of people catching bass on a cane pole, I bet that's a trip. I've never used one. Thanks again my friend, tight lines!

It was the early 80s for me. We lived on probably a 100 to 200 acre pond and I received a blue and yellow Zebco for my 5th birthday. I don't know how reliable my memory is here but it was on the first or second cast when I caught a monster bass. It was probably 1 or 2 pounds but it sure seemed huge at the time! Much later my daughter had the same beginner's luck. She caught a beautiful rainbow trout on her very first cast with her new Zebco at around the same age. My favorite memories are when my uncle would pick up some shiners and we would camp in the back yard. The next morning we would get up early and go out on his motorboat. Every kid should have memories like that! I love all this nostalgia. Thanks for bringing it all back, Jeff!

@jasonm1884 Wow...to have that right in your backyard must have been so cool! The memory of your daughter catching a fish made me think about my daughters first fish...a catfish. Your daughter did something at 5 years old that I still haven't done at almost 55 😂 I'm so happy you enjoyed the nostalgia, I certainly enjoyed reliving it for a while. Who would've thought that the smallest things from all those years ago would still live on today? That's why I end each video with get outside and play...it's just as important to me now as it was back then. I appreciate you!

I remember my first rod and reel, Zebco 33 was the top of the line at the time. Going with my dad to the river and some ponds. Are great memories for sure. We did some of the pay lakes for fun as well. Your second fish was a freshwater drum. I liked this video, as i was almost like sitting on the bank with you, only I couldn't tell any of my memories. LOL! 😂

I had ZEBCO 33 envy for sure! You know, CZcams is my social outlet, so when I'm making videos it's also like you all are there with me. I'm happy the video made you feel that in a way. The pay lakes were kinda an easy way for younger kids to go fishing by themselves, somewhat open and supervised if you will. Thanks for participating and sharing some memories. 👊

Yeah, it was fun for sure. Did I get the first fishing trip right? Memories are very vague.

MY First memories of going fishing was at my Dad sister in south Ind where we go for a visit every summer. My brother Alvin would dig up some red worm for bait.We did not have any fishing poles so we used a stick and string and a safety pen for a hook and we would go to the creek and catch sun fish best time every . There was not any place around were i live to go fishing as a kid So i made sure if my kids like to fish i take them fishing when every i could and they both fish to this day .And that make me Happy JB

@johnnybrown7542 that is a good story. I can honestly say I have never heard of anyone fishing with string and a safety pin. I do remember Laura Ingalls fishing with a stick on Little House on the Prairie 😆 Thank you for sharing your memory!

Damn...now that's a memory! I can honestly say I have never used a cane pole. How does a kid even handle a rod like that? They were some good ol days weren't they? I appreciate you watching and participating. Hopefully made you feel good to recall the memories!

Best memories are fishing with my grandfather on the lake I grew up on. Tying up a rod baited with a small bluegill and leaving it out overnight. Top prize was a big channel or blue catfish, or a nice northern pike.

@mhkangler thank you for sharing. I love hearing about y'all's memories and you mentioning your grandfather made me remember the one and only time I fished with my grandfather. It was off a pier in Pensacola Florida when I was maybe 10 years old. I can honestly say I have never heard of anyone fishing for cats with a bluegill. Amazing what we learn from each other. I appreciate you!
