- In this mildly detailed video, I do an unboxing and installation of the Garmin Striker 4 depth finder from Navarre Kayak Fishing. I install the unit on my Old Town Sportsman 106 without drilling any holes or compromising the kayak in any way. Then we hit the water to see if it works and maybe catch a fish before heading home having learned a very costly lesson. @NavarreKayakFishing @Buydeeper

The wife picked me up a striker 4+ for Father’s Day! I’m planning to get it hooked up tomorrow then will hopefully get to try it out on Monday during a tournament!
That's awesome! I mainly use mine for depth and temperature. I'm not exactly sure how to read it, but I plan to learn. There is a CZcamsr who does a series on how to use the Garmin. I've got a tournament tomorrow.... good luck in your tournament!!!
@@yakkittymack my goal is to learn it I definitely don’t have experience with them but knowing depth will be so huge where I fish most. It goes from 3-4’ to 50’ quick and sometimes I have no clue how deep I’m fishing. Thanks and good luck in yours also!
Good info. Being a recreational weekend kayak angler, the Striker 4 is all I need.
@Panam922 thanks for watching and commenting. I'm also a weekender and it's all I need too. I'm not even sure how to read it. I use it for depth and water temps. Beyond that, I have no idea what to look for. Thanks again and tight lines my friend!
Nice install and a fish to boot! Good job Jeff! I’m gonna have to borrow the pool noodle trick. Thanks for the video!
Thank you kind sir! I appreciate you watching and supporting the channel the way you do.
I have been seriously considering picking up this same Garmin unit for my pirogue. currently on sale at Bass pro
I was impressed. I wish I could have spent more time with it learning the settings and features, but my mind was on my phone. Thank you for watching!
My heart is filled with dread at the thought of losing my phone like that! I can't believe I spent so much time on the water last year and didn't lose any valuables that way. Thanks for the install vid. It seems like you figured out all the stuff that can go wrong so we don't have to. Not sure if I'll make the leap this year for a Garmin. The install seems like a minor pain in the ass but still a pain in the ass and I wonder how the wires and electronics will hold up over time.
@jasonm1884 yeah, it was 2 days of hell trying to recover data and switch my phone number over to the new phone. All of my passwords and info was stored in an app on a phone laying in the bottom of a lake. Very stressful! I will never do that again!!! The install was actually kinda fun, really easy. If it wasn't for me filming, it would have taken about an hour total and I'm not a confident person doing stuff like that, which is what drew me to the Deeper to begin with. Thank you for watching and commenting. Much appreciated!
Great info and video ! Nice catch too ! Stay safe !
Thank you kindly! I appreciate you watching.
Dude. I feel the pain of losing a phone to a lake… I lost a lot of my firstborn’s baby pictures. I still have a TON but I lost a bunch too… big ouch.
That setup is clean. Those nocqua batteries are tiny. Never thought about having it on my chair like that. I’ve considered running everything through the storage behind the seat but idk. I think my current setup will work pretty decently (changed it from my initial video).
Great attitude bud. And nice bonus fish.
Thank you sir. My heart sank faster than the phone 😆 I won't make that mistake again!!!
I'll be watching future vids and will take note of where you moved the depth finder. Since I had to leave early to go buy a new phone I didn't get to spend much time with mine, so I'm pretty sure I'll make a couple of adjustments once I spend a full day on the water.
When is your next tournament? Mine is the 23rd.
@@yakkittymack mine might be the 30th. I had another for April 13th but that’s my son’s bday party 😂
Excellent video
@georgebowman3051 thank you very much! I appreciate you watching and commenting!!
Nice setup!!!
Which Scupper Valves did you buy the short ones or long ones? (I'm new to kayaks and we order me a kayak but not here yet)
Thanks
@txmexnittro thank you very much! I went with the short scupper valves. I'm honestly not sure why they make 2 different sizes? Anyway, the short ones work great in my 106 PDL. Out of curiosity, which kayak did you order? Thanks for watching and commenting! Much appreciated 👍
How does your transducer fit on the bottom of your old town. Would have liked to see some pictures of it. With that mount mine doesn’t sit in there good unless it’s backwards.
@nelhead4807 if you pause the video at the 8:39 mark, you should be able to see how I have it seated. Thank you very much for watching and commenting!
I must have looked away at that moment lol 😂
@@nelhead4807 😂 no worries my friend. Hope it helps you. It's a great little unit. I don't use it for trying to find fish. I'm just interested in bottom structure, depth, and water temps. I'm sure it can do much more but I haven't explored all of that yet.
@@yakkittymack sure does thanks man. I was actually told you can run it backwards and it doesn’t affect anything. At the moment all I use mine for is water temp and bottom structure and speed.
right on
Thank you!
I have looked into fish finders in the past and present and I always got confused about it all and put it on the back burner because I hate hin sight and I don't know anyone for advice. I mean is it a great thing to have? Hey get a fishing magnet for you can retrieve fumbled objects.
Brute magnetics has a good product, you can fish for something else when the fish don't bite.
I am not an expert on depth finders at all, but I guess I would want to know what you want to do with it. I don't use it to locate fish, in fact, I'm not sure what all those markings are. I use it for depth and to see sudden depth changes like drop offs or mounds. And I guess I use it for water temps too...so a pretty basic depth finder works great for me.@user-cv6zh7fp8z
My dad had a fishing magnet. I've never used one before but they seem pretty cool.
