Thoughts on the new laws?
A street takeover and a parking lot takeover aka Car Show are two different things and should be easily argued in court and with that being said a lot of the time the criminal process is often the punishment time & money and so on.
what state was the law changed?
My thoughts as a non-US resident, but as someone who lives on a country with the same problem: Fucking Good.
I'm thrilled to have some laws implemented on Takeovers, even if I won't be directly affected by them.
I live where the issue is very similar, it's just F8x BMWs, C63s, R8s and this one Huracan Performante that make a shit ton of noise and do donuts in the middle of the street and sit at rev limiter.
I really do hate those guys with a passion. Even if the cops abuse this, it's better than what was. Would you agree?
I agree with this as far as takeovers...the problem with it is they will apply these laws to street racing, i.e. no prep events and other meetups for sure.

Agreed. These idiots don’t really care about cars or car culture. They never have. They just care about getting as much attention as they can.
They are just criminals engaging in a different crime.
Most the cars are stolen to begin with.

Realistically, most people don’t HAVE a local racetrack. Here in NYC the closest one is 3+ hours away, so there’s takeovers on a weekly basis. Not to mention most takeovers cars are STOLEN. Takeover guys aren’t car guys, they’re criminals who steal cars & got into cars for clout. I made a video on my channel about this, but they’re not going anywhere unfortunately

I went to a old school car show yesterday and i really loved it. No idiots revving engines, just old people showing old school cars
Me too! And then some newer Mustang drove by and decided to floor it, creating a lot of noise and attention. He wasn’t part of the show, just someone desperate for attention.
In my area it's the opposite actually, it's the old domestic guys revving and doing stupid shit to ruin our cars and coffee meets.....guess because their old they just don't give a f anymore. But I was blown away seeing it coming primarily from them.
theres a show every friday night around my area that a lot of older people go to, but they grew it to the point where theres more younger people showing up. everyone just shows up, parks, talks, and the police (small town) dont care if they do burnouts or pulls while leaving as long as they are back at the speed limit by the stop light up the road a bit. favorite thing to go to weekly
The car show that happens around me have a few old timers spin their tires and let the old engines sing when they leave
Traditional car shows are my favorite way to see cars
"Stay in ya lane" is hard to do when takeover kids are blocking my lane
What sucks is that lots of people are pushing tracks out of existence. They don't want to hear them, but 2 seconds later they complain about the street crap. Keep the tracks open and let people have fun safety.
Don't blame tracks closing for it.. tracks have been closing for decades
Those who do takeovers never cared about go to a racetrack
@@jimmirogers3485 it wasn't my intent to sound like I'm blaming the tracks. It is absolutely NOT the fault of the track. I was simply mentioning that those (rightfully) complaining will quite often be the same person complaining about the track, when enough complain it eventually leads to the track's closure. This eliminates the safe controlled places that people can have fun with their cars, causing them to resort to taking their shenanigans to the streets.
@@yandhi6029 the vast majority of the time you are correct about that. But when people have nowhere to screw around safely they will eventually start screwing around on the street, making the issue even worse. It's a fucked situation anyway you look at it.
@@jimmirogers3485if you took 2 seconds and Google tracks closing, you'd learn most tracks close from the homeowners in the area getting sick of the noise and working together to get them shut down. Or passing ordances that kill the track. Using a Google product but not using Google is the irony of the decade for 80% of the internet users.
The worst thing is that these "people" (I use that term loosely here) think they're hot shit. Pretty sad honestly.
The funny thing is - some of them will come to the track and if you offer to teach them how to get better if they screw up, they will straight up deny that they are bad and curse you out. Lol
Can't get over the Ego they've built up. Ego and Pride are not the same thing and they struggle or simply can't separate or distinguish between the two. Then there are those who are so prideful they refuse the help even though they could benefit from it but rather figure it out on their own, which in and of it's self there is nothing wrong with. It's just hard to watch sometimes and not be overbearing if you're the type who loves or feels they have to help. In those scenarios best to just step back and let em cook. David, here’s the thing, no one at a street takeover is there to hone their drifting skills, practice sliding, or because they can’t afford a track day. They’re there because they want the attention that breaking the law brings them, breaking the law is “cool”, or at least that’s what they think… that hoon mentality man.
Peopel who do takeovers where never interested in going to a track in the first place
There is a percentage that would go to a track but they are expensive and limited not to mention every track I've seen has a tech inspection that is going to look for certain things and require you to wear a helmet and peaky stuff like that which they don't want to spend there money on but it is a lot of clout chasing and social media fame speaking
@@sqike001ton the ppl that would go to the track if they could afford it would rather go to a secluded location instead of a busy intersection and do their thing. These cats are out there for the clicks, likes and the thrill of breaking the law.
On another note, I fully blame hoonigan for takeovers and takeover mentality. No one was running around race/drift cars with cameras before those dipshits started doing it. At least they were on the same page with the drivers though. The morons saw it and just figured you can run around a bunch of bad drivers and it will be fine. It's not.
I made a video on takeovers a while ago, and I was absolutely flabbergasted how many people in favor of takeovers were hating in the comments. I tried my best to reason with them, but they don't want to be reasoned with. They think they're right no matter how wrong they are. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like they will learn until they seriously hurt themselves, someone else, or get arrested.

What I hate about North America is that everybody gets punished because of a few idiots.
There are also too many micro managing rules and laws.
Unfortunately in America, there are way more than 'a few idiots'.... and that applies to the general population, and those in government.
Birmingham, Alabama here: we used to have a really bad problem with the takeovers and street racing but recently they passed new laws that they would begin prosecuting people simply based on social media footage and they’ve almost all but dissolved seemingly overnight.
The problem with most of these takeovers, at least the ones around here, is that no one owned the cars they were using. They’re all stolen so what do they care if they get damaged or seized by the police?
One would also assume that if they have no disregard for a stolen car, they probably could not care less about driving around with a revoked license.
$2500-4000 isn't high enough in my opinion.
Same
Should be 5yrs instead of 2 also...
I think it is most people who partake in the takeovers, they’re cars are worth $4k lol probably sell that pos to pay for the ticket 😂
The fines should be 10x that
Just get rid of the fines, suspensions and seizures and give them mandatory jail time instead.
The problem is a lot of the takeover guys are not car guys. It’s just thug shit, but in cars lol
I have an 1100 hp mustang and I love the car scene. Don’t get me wrong. But these takeovers are the worst things I’ve ever seen in my 35 years of living. Imagine working 14 hours trying to get home and they blocked the highway to do donuts on 676 in Philly, I was pissed
Breaking news: sales of Hellcats to buyers with a 500 credit score dropped 85%
Truth be told the people that can actually afford Hellcats arent participating in takeovers. A Hellcat at a takeover is 99 percent of the time stolen.
You don't need good credit to buy a Hellcat or any car. Just enough money. You really thought a credit score stopped people from buying cars? Or at least those types that buy those cars to do these things. 🤣

These "takeovers" or "side shows" have gotten so bad these past couple of years that a lot of everyday people associate anyone with a sports cars to be into that type of stuff. I sometimes get weird looks when I come into a gas station even though my car isn't heavily modified. Of course, they might be looking due to another reason, but I live in an area where my local news stations be reporting a side show/takeover every 4-6 weeks it seems like. Some states are already pushing heavy on electric vehicles and making modifying your car hard, this is just more ammo for them to use.

I started going to track on motorcycles several years ago because I wanted less legal risk and an environment I felt more safe in(less risk in regards to traffic, animals, road debris, ect) and I fell in love. I learned a ton and it made me really wake up to risks of everyday life. I used to goof off in traffic all the time with buddies and whatnot for many years prior. So once i started doing track, I quickly retracted myself from things that could legally get me in trouble and carry much longer lasting repercussions for my actions.
Needless to say, just like you said, a lot of guys around me thought I was trying to act like I was better than them because "I went to the track" and was above riding on the streets, which then made them look at me like I was self indulged in myself and "HE OlNy RIdEs TracK".
The major disconnect is that the type of mentality that these kids/young adults have with this behavior is that they just haven't matured and aren't able to think several years down the road at what they are doing today can greatly impact them in later life. (and the attention/clicks for sure)

Often they’re reported stolen to dodge the payment. In the other case, I think the owners’ probably dealt with it already & is moving on. These cars can circulate for years, with poor maintenance.
To everyone concerned that they’ll be charged because of one other idiot: that’s the point. The most effective policing strategy is the one in which the community enforces the law on its own. Guaranteed if twenty people get charged because of one, those twenty will make damn sure they never ride with that one person ever again, and that anyone they ride with in the future will behave themselves. Forcing a higher standard through peer pressure is a powerful tool.

So do you blame the person who will purposely find ways to abuse the law or ..... the law makes making them in good faith that cops wont abuse them since...you know...they are cops of the LAW lmao. you must be 7yrs old
Street takeovers = pool of Darwin awards
30 something dude here. Used to love going to the track for those local stock car races...
It's so long ago now.
A big challenge with any of these laws is simply the ability to effectively hold folks accountable, or create a sufficient enough perception of being held accountable. An unfortunate reality in many places is a reduced public service budget which greatly limits the manning, training and equipping of the law enforcement services. Rules and laws carry little weight if they cannot be effectively enforced.
There is the additional challenge you spoke to which is the activities being conducted simply for the "internet clout". It's attention, that quick dopamine hit from getting "likes" and feeling supported, despite the illegal and irresponsible activities to get it.
Car meets have gotten so bad and out of hand i can't even go to them with my dad anymore since he has a cdl and doesn't want to risk getting pulled over for just being there and possibly losing his job, it sucks but hey at least we can still go to actual events and shows together.
sema, maybe something manufacturer sponsored might still be in the cards. stay strong homie.
Good takeovers give the car scene a bad look for us that just wanna have a fun time
I live next to Sonoma Raceway. They stopped their Wednesday Night Drift event this year, conveniently soon after I put a welded diff in my car SMH, so now people drift on the streets. I don't participate in street drifting, but as far as the argument "go to the track", its not that accessible to everyone.
Not to mention the countless videos and insurance claims from street takeovers where they blocked an intersection, hit YOUR SHIT while doing half-assed donuts, and then run. Hit and run.
Same thing goes for street racing on the high way and motorcyclists
So over street takeovers
Yoooo are you that one dude who take pics on Speedhunters?
@@frstwhsprsyeah that’s him he’s in Cali a lot so it’s probably 10x worse there.
Tbh I haven’t even gone to meets in like 2+ years and I’m only 26. All the groups in chat would always be talking about some weird non-car related shit about like teenager gay jokes to each other or fetish stuff, like I’m just here for car stuff 🤦🏼♂️
You make very valid points and I agree with your take completely. Unfortunately, local law enforcement and city government where I live decided that drift racing needed to be outlawed along with street takeovers. Clackamas Country prohibited Pat's Acres Racing Complex from holding drift events, so the track option is no longer an alternative in this part of Oregon.
Wow. That's fked up
100% agree with everything you said, but we also need to address Track Accessibility & Write to Local Officials for zoning for automotive track construction.
LMAO @ "lighting fireworks at a gas station" Natural selection has decided to drop by for a visit.
My concern is just as dude in blue said, a bored cop will probably have a huge laugh after ticketing 20 people just hanging out in a parking lot because one jackass laid some rubber as he left
who cares. hanging around in large groups/gangs is for the birds. it is ALWAYS a risk factor for some shoes size iq activities. buy the ticket take the ride
@@SonsOfDeForest gangs? Well, in my city we have car meets that happen weekly, some monthly, some annually. The different groups have participation numbers ranging from 30-300 people. Some groups the average age has got to be at least 65. I wouldn't quite call them a gang. And we are an inclusive city here in riverside California, so we don't charge a participation fee to meet in a parking lot on a Sunday morning. But I'm not worried about our police abusing a law like this but I know for sure our 2 neighboring cities cops are probably itching to get the chance to steal and destroy some cars and fund their next pay raise with a load of "spectator" tickets
Shoot, you don't even need to enjoy a track day, just get your foot in the door and do autocross. It's stupid affordable.
Yeah, the one near me is like 20 bucks a session.
I had my license suspended for 2 years. I just walked and jogged to work. I was testing new gearbox on my time attack civic, and clocked on police radar +250 on highway, at 3.30am in the morning, on a tuesday. I got leaner sentence due to there being no traffic and I stopped for the officers.
Although this was in Finland! Those takeovers give everyone bad name. They are idiotic. Go to the damn track
“Stay in ya lane” says some 19yr kid that thinks he’s tough cause he attends a public car show 😂😂 everyone can drift you’re in OUR lane buddy 🤣🤣🤣
Street takeovers are done by the usual suspects. We know who they are. People that are car enthusiasts don't do that crap. We know who does.

It was never about the cars. It’s about making noise in your 33% APR Hellcat.
I remember going to a local meet here in Texas after being out of it for almost a decade and the meet turned into a takeover rather quickly so I was leaving when a group of 20 year olds ask me why I'm leaving and I pointed out exactly why I'm leaving only to receive the reply "We always do this" and I responded with "If you've always killed animals growing up, you're probably a serial killer now. Just because you've always done something does not justify it being right" The same kids I spoke with ended up wrecking their cars while attempting to evade the police that night
This movement is coming to our streets now, but the issue is the violence towards people who are not part of it, along with damage to the property. We've just had two occasions lately where people were seriously hurt by being hit by a car participating in it. One of them is now paralysed by the incident and it apparently is his friend who hit him.
friendly fire between r3t4rds? ok, great
At this point I’m pretty sure the GSP is getting like $50K from the government for every Pursuit Charger they destroy in a car chase with a suspect💀
GSP is gonna take full advantage and exploit every last drop 😂
Ohio and Texas also take pride in completely destroying their cruisers in chases...
New nightmare discovered:
Street takeovers in squatted trucks
Suprisingly, over the atlantic I’ve never heard of it street takeovers being an issue over here. I wonder why🤔
About 15 years ago Australia made a law that if you were caught hooning, the police would just crush your car and you'd be fine and lose you license. Pretty rare we hear about drags and burnout stuff any more
So basically every scat pack and hellcat owner is gonna be a felon. Lol.

A lot of times there is felony possession of weapons and drugs at these take overs as well. Hopefully the prosecutors actually take all the new laws seriously too.
I mean aren’t street takeovers just a whole bunch of stolen cars in public😂😂
What's old is new again. At 17 I was arrested at an illegal street RACE (Drag Race not this candy azz ride a carousel until your tires or engine fails) Cop was not as nice as I thought. He charged me with Curfew BUT DID suspend my license for 6 months. That suspension hosed my insurance until I turned 21. Like a dummy I went back at 18 but I wasn't driving this time, what could happen? Being present at a street race is a misdemeanor that can be booking or citation. The real fun, 4 points on your license for standing there watching.
I drive a modified car as a daily. I've never seen track time, ain't any all that close, but I also don't do stupid takeover shit! Keep it on the track or keep it civil!
I've legit had these clowns say " I can't afford to go to the track" because they mod their cars with eBay parts and clown tires. 😂
Funny part about that is, a test & tune night is what like $20-$25 for unlimited runs, atleast where i’m at in PA. Same with a grassroots drift event what is it $25-$50 to register as a driver?! I could empty my cup holder at the coinstar and afford a track day. Takeover dudes fr dont have two pennies to rub together

Back then side shows used to be in industrial areas in the middle of the night. With no one to bother. Now they’re blocking busy intersections attracting way too much attention
One day I was driving home from work, just HAPPENED to be in the area of a takeover, cops pulled me over and tried to say I was with them and were saying they were impounding my car. Only until I had my boss show up and show my timeslips did they let me go. I understand why, but they shouldnt just target people in the area. Almost ruined my life over bs.
Now we need these dork CZcamsrs to stop promoting these takeovers.
Why? It's the viewers that watch it.
You are not being to harsh on them at all!
Preach Sir. Blue!
Squatted trucks and street takeovers are making me miss the clapped out honda days... 😂
the spectator part isn't good. I understand its need because everyone just claims, "I was only watching", so they need to cut those out, but I can easily see unrelated people getting snagged up and charged when they really weren't even part of the situation.
90 dollars for a whole day?! man... its about 30 ish € per lap around nordschleife. A SINGLE lap. not the whole day. A singular lap. Without the GP course. You guys in the states have NO clue, how good you have got it with your track days.
Oh, those in the know absolutely know.. cars and fun with cars are incredibly accessible here and well, we're for the most part enjoying that. Its a certain small but incredibly cancerous group that does dumb shit and gives the rest of us a bad name to the general public.
But yeah, no excuse not to pay a lil money to go play and be better, the thing is that's not what they're after. They dont want to be better, they want to brag and get attention for doing illegal shit. Nothing more, nothin less.
That isn’t common at all. I’m in louisiana and we don’t have anything like that. We have a drag strip which is cheap and we have one race track that’s expensive as hell.
@@ChadAV69 yet its still much more than we have. Yes we have the Hockenheim Ring, but there are hardly any "Touristenfahrten". The Lausitzring? pretty much closed apart from the major race events. Oschersleben? Nearly dead.
And youre not allowed to drift on either of them unless its a dedicated drift event every once in a solar eclipse.

there's so many of these idiots in Omaha, NE that post or involve themselves in this stuff. Then once a big group here like 1320video says something about it. There they are in the comments agreeing that they don't like it, but yet they're the ones doing it. Btw it's ALWAYS Mopar guys.

I don't think these kids want to be a showcase as a skilled driver, I think they enjoy the disruption and anger felt by the people around them.
Used to be a person only had a few friends putting stupid ideas in their head so they were limited on the dumb ideas they could come up with. Now, with the proliferation of the Internet, the sky is the limit on how many dumb ideas a person gets in their head from millions of other idiots online
This is actually a really good piece of insight a lot of people don't realise on a day to day basis growing up with the internet
Takeovers should be openly outlawed and dissassociated from the car scene. Not putting up with takeovers will be a big stance to put car culture in positive light.
And stopping street racing
@@key2shawn154 right. Street racing would probably ly be okay if they rented out street. But that's quite a bit in cost.
I got my first and only lesson on going to the track when I got my speeding ticket. It was either go drag racing for $30, or pay a speeding ticket for $300 (originally $380).
