Man, one of the best channels I've ever seen about chess. Direct, clear, perfect pace... Thanks for all your effort!!
Thanks, buddy 👍
In position 1 you can't castle queen-side because of the bishop on f5 since you can't castle through check, so it's an illegal move.
actually I believe it's still legal lol, the king doesn't move through check (f5 bishop covers b1, king goes e1 to c1)
No man, it's a legal move the king will not be in check while castling...
You can castle with a rook that is under attack at the time, and the rook can pass through an attacked square when castling while the king cannot.
I was told that was an illegal move too
What about Qb3 on the last one? Trying to trade queens, if black takes and tries to mess up your pawns you can try Rc1.
I voted that as well.
I was thinking black probably has to trade and that will stop his attack right away, there will be no meaningful threat
but doesn't qb3 stop your attack also and you don't have winning position anymore
Amazing episode! Really well presented. Thank you 🙏🏽
In the first position, you can’t play 0-0-0 because it’s an illegal move. Blacks light squared Bishop on f5 is preventing it.
It is not
the b1 (b8) and a1 (a8) squares does not matter when it comes to playing O-O-O
and the h1 (h8) square does not matter when it comes to playing O-O
I like this series too . Similar to Solitaire chess. Anything interactive is fun and educational.
What about Qb3 in the third position?
Was thinking of trading the queen and opening up the c file
SHARED INTERNATIONALLY!! Major Thanks & Blessings from Oregon as always. ... Mike.
In position 2, the top 3 moves didn't even make up 50% of players. Might be worth talking about more moves in those cases.
I didn't participate but did very well this time. I picked Nh5, Qe3, and Qc1. Qc1 stood out to me in the last one as a way to threaten the fork with b3 while defending the c2 and a3 pawns.
3rd position, Queen to d3 seems good it attack the rook while defending
I need to up my game a lot. I went on tangents on all three positions. For position 3, for example, I chose Qb6, figuring that it would give me attack opportunities.
Position 1: White to draw: Black is chekkmate in three moves. How? White rook takes pawn g7, check. Black can only move to f8,white rook takes queen f7,check. Black can only moves to g8,white rook to g7, checkmate. I've never learned terms of check notationt,so bare over with me.
On the first one I saw the Nh5 but went exactly with what Fischer did
It would be nice if you told us whether Fischer won or lost the game in each of the positions, based on the move he actually made
it feels so good when you find out that the move you would played is stockfish's top 1 move and almost no one found it
Really enjoy your explanations.
It would help if you showed last move of opponent.
Can you show the evalutaion with stockfish for each positions ? Before the break you showed it but you no longer do so. But i think it was better with stockfish’s evalutaion
In position 3 I spent 20minutes deciding if there was a difference between the 2rook moves decided if there was I wasn't going to see itso I'm glad they were both right
In Pos 1, what about Qxb7 and follow up taking the pawn on a7 or c6 -- boom up 3 pawns.
in position 2, what happens on Rg1? (and if black's dark squares bishop wasn't in that particular diagonal, would Ra3 have been better instead of capturing the pawn?)
0:20 Magnus is the best player ever... BUT, Magnus also got to study the greats. I would say Paul Morphy, Bobby Fischer, and Magnus are all the greats of their era.
Yes!
In 2nd position
What about d6 if Bxd6 then we can play Qd1 and skewer the bishops?
And if Bd8 then he underdeveloped right?
5:47: blacks bishop on f5 is threatening b1, hence being unable to castle.
After O-O-O in the first position black plays Qxb3 axb3 Bxf4 Bxf4 Bxh3 and white is no longer up a pawn, has a worse structure and it's opposite coloured bishops so it's a draw at best.
I would love to hear your opinion on Qb3 in the 3th quiz. It was the second choice in the middle player group and also my choice, but sadly you didn't mention it.
Same here. I liked Qb3 because your king is more vulnerable and so exchanging queens seems to benefit you. But I would have liked to hear his opinion on it too.
issue is ur not up any material, the main idea of defending with the rook while keeping queens on the board is that blacks attack is fully stopped while your attack is able to continue, trading the queens leaves u in maybe a slightly better endgame because of the pawn structure, but its not completely winning by any means
@@frostypotatos180 I see your point. Thank you
Bruh here I am with Qd3. It gives up the black squares controlling the weakness on the black side. So Qc1 made more sense.
The black bishop on f5 is actually what forbids O-O-O in the 1st quiz.
Now what did I put on that form again? Is it possible to have it emailed when submitting? (I saved the page now, so no real problem anymore)
(You liked f3, I know I mentioned f4 but I chose bxc6 as my move)
6:25 o God thanks for mentioning that, I was losing hope for my chess career since no one picked that move x. x
I'm a noob, never played a ranked game in my life but I might start up now that I'm gaining interest for the game. This channel is great, you are very good to explain !
1. Rxg7 (Which obviously was not good when I hear both you and stockfish say that does not work at all.) But hey, 5% of the 1601+ rated guys does the same mistake as me! :D Nh5 looks amazing but I did not see it myself
2. f3 I did not see the crazy line at all. I would fell right for it
3. I see immidietly the danger of B3, THat's a checkmate for Black with Qa3, c4, Qa1. so that's no good. I think Rh2 makes sense to fortify my Pawn at C2.. Moving it creates a weakness for later as Queen can go Qb3.. I don't feel very safe in that position. I also like Rc1, But I'll do Rh2. to fortify. (Wooooh! again 17% from top rating agree with my Rh2 move. I'm so happy :D, And now you are explaining the same thing with The Pawn move I did not like, Awesome. I'm learning from you!! :D )
I thought we were supposed to be guessing Bobby's move, that's why I chose the queen trade without looking at the knight move. In position 3 why not take the pawn? I think white will mate sooner, but strengthen the king defense first
For the third puzzle, what's wrong with Qb3, why you didn't made a comment on it?
3:36
Instead of taking back the queen, Bc5 is much better.
for position 1 i saw knight g6 and was confused that no one else saw it
good theme
Awesome! I’ve gained like 100 rating points from watching your videos!
2 out of 3 i wanted to play were the top moves 😀
Yes.
The whole point of rxg7 in the first puzzle is that it lures the king away from the queen by sacrificing the rook
I love you videos 👌👌
6:00 castling queenside is illegal due to the light square bishop
I'm 0-1000 rating.
Position 1. Rook takes g7 check
Initially I thought you win a pawn (or the queen) at the end but didn't see the pin on my bishop. rip
Knight h5 would be my 2nd option.
Position 2. Queen to e3 (or rook to g1)
I'm worried about the potential piece sacrifice that could danger my king.
I didn't really see any immediate threats other than that, so I believed I'd have just enough time to make a safety move here.
Position 3. Rook to h2, (or rook to d2, or queen to b3, or queen to d3, etc.)
My c pawn is being attacked, and my king is terrified of that.
Defend the pawn, any way possible. I like rook to h2, because it also gives me the ability to double up my rooks, if I want.
Black has no more moves after that, I think. White should be better.
Meanwhile me: Finds completely different way to attack, guess I am unranked
You can't castle queen side because there is a check with the bishop on f5
16:20 what about Qb3?
On position 1 the bishop is controlling the b1 so you could not castle.
Position 2: I played rook to g1. The idea was that if the bishop sacrifice happens, the queen is attacked.
For the first position why not QB7?
Position 3: Why not Qh6 preparing to advance a pawn while trapping the king?
Biship to d4 then biship to g7 now if the king takes the biship it’s checkmate and then if the queen goes for it they loose a queen
Why in position 2 when bishop takes H3 we can't play bishop takes E4?
Pawn D5 to C6, (6:38)
9:30
No I didn’t see that, No.
black's white bishop gets in the way of the castle right?
Pawn H5 to G6, (11:22)
That was a bad move. (Slap on my hands)
Knight F4 to H5. (1:14)
I did notice the Queen trade.
These puzzles smacked me in the face lol. I got 1/3 right lol.
In the first one is it not checkmate without having to capture the queen? Nh5, QxQb3, Rxg7!, Kf8, Bc5!, Bd6, BxBd6!. Re7, BxRe7!, Ke8, Nf6#
Am i seeing something wrong?
6:25 Couldn't Black's Bishop take if Ng6?
Hopefully I got them right I already have nh5 that I got right
THE QUEEN
I got one! Woo hoo!
i have a question at 2:38. Can you 0-0-0 because the bishop saves b1. so the rock cant move over this field? or is that special? thats my question for you. sorry for my english i am from germany and i play chess too and I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!! SO EAZY,SO FUNNY, JUST PERFECT!! but yeah thats my question
And yeah i got your answer on this vid 😉
PS: Your are my favourite channel I love your videos and learn everyday more about chess because your perfect vidoes!🥰😜
Wow didnt know Kurt Warner played chess back in a day
6:00 it's not possible to castle bc black white square bishop stare at b1
how many theory books had he read by age 12? Lol, do you know his rating then? Nice format Nelson!
Me wondering how nobody chose pawn b3 for the last one
In position 3 Queen to d3 seems best
Night to g6
I saw bishop defending on Nh5 but had no idea why Id push it away with the pawn if queen could just take on knight takes bishop, so I thought it's just about equal. I forgot its pinned hahahahah 1600 brains work in mysterious ways.
i think am the only one that consider taking the hanging pawn.
Am I crazy, or is just moving the left white rook to take the left black rook checkmate in the thumbnail?
Yep, saw that move as well lol
5:53 0-0-0 was not possible because of the Bf5
You cant castle because the rook has to cross over the white bishop’s line of attack
I'm confused. Since white is the one castling, what does the white bishop's line of attack matter?
Go easy on Bobby, Nelson e was only 12!!!
Op man
No wonder he was so good, he always played white 🙃
Wow you know these are some wild positions when you can't even find 50% of 1600+ rated players who agree on 3 moves. I guess it makes sense that positions Bobby Fischer blundered in would be very difficult to analyse. This is definitely the worst I've ever done at one of these quizzes as well. In the first position I somehow saw Ng6 but failed to see Nh5 which is pretty much the same idea but better. The second position I don't really know what I was thinking when I answered but I was pretty far off the mark and in the last position I blundered the same way Bobby Fischer did which is unfortunate but I guess I can't feel too bad. I'm a fan of this level of difficulty for the positions but it does feel like the review ends up being a little more shallow as a result. I don't think that's you're fault though, there is so much craziness in some of these variations that it's just not really possible to cover most lines in depth in such a short video. Seeing how split people were I'm more curious after this one than any of the other quizzes about the answers that weren't popular enough to make the top 3 in their bracket as well.
Last
I am glad I did better than 12yo Fisher in exercises 1 and 2, even if I am on my 30s. BTW, in the 3rd exercise, I will have to ask stockfish why Qd3 is a bad move
Thumbnail rook takes rook.
While I did see the pawn on d takes c move, I didn't really see what it leads to. The board just looked better to me.
In position 1 you couldn’t castle bc of the Bishop blocking it, funny that one of the top 3 moves by 1600+ was illegal
It was 1 person or 2 people based on %
It's not blocking since the king doesn't pass over that spot.
@@Chikov2 oh really? I always thought nothing could be in the way but I started playing chess 2 months ago what do I know lol
