Pokémon Villains in Games vs Anime?
The Pokemon anime is pretty much the whole reason for Brock and Misty’s massive popularity. Their game counterparts didn’t really have anything going for them until the anime breathed life into their characters.
Yeah even in Masters, since Brock and Misty are in the games Canon, their personalities are pretty generic compared to the anime

I love Clemont in the anime. Going from inventor nerd gym leader in the games... to a inventor nerd with insecurities, who grows to someone with more confidence in himself and his gym leader capabilities.
Plus is invention explosion gag never fails to make me chuckle.
I honestly consider anime Clemont to be one of Ash´s rivals. And a really good one.

But how could you forget Brock’s most important difference from his in-game version?! The fact that he constantly hits on nearly every woman he sees, and is dragged away nearly every time!

Dawn was definitely my favourite anime counterpart. In the games she’s either a playable character or Professor Rowan’s assistant, and she really doesn’t do that much. In the anime however she gets an entire story arc straight from episode one, which ended really nicely
I found her leaning First Aid and getting over her fear of Plusile and Minun better than her Depression really. I thought Ash losing to Paul and having his confidence knocked down was better shown than dawns.

I like that they made Paul a Gym Leader. It feels like even the anime writers knows that Paul deserve to go down the same path as Red's Rival. Showing us that Paul is Ash's best rival.

Iris had the best anime glow up, for real.
Paul being the New Gym Leader of Viridian would be fitting, if so, since he's THE RIVAL.
It's in a way "anime Silver" replacing Giovanni, which in theory is a fantastic coincidence.
He has lots of Ground Mons too - Torterra, Nidoking, Gastrodon, Gliscor & Garchomp.
Give him Evoliote Ursaring and it's done... unless he rules over Vermilion's GO Tower lol.
Then again, he was only asked... like Iris was... he might leapfrog it all and replace Cynthia.

I just really wanna see Ash interact with everyone's game counterpart in Masters. It's just Ash excited to see all his old friends and they are just here wondering who this weird kid is. Also, we all want to see Ash vs. Red to finally show that they are on *equal footing.*
Imagine if in a future generation of the main series theirs a secret boss that we hear is super strong and it is Ash I would freak out.

I really liked how the Aether Family was handled. I consider the game and anime versions to be on par with anime edging out just a bit.....except for Lusamine. Let me get it straight I do not hate anime Lusamine, she's great and unlike the Ultra games where they put in no effort to distance herself from being an awful mother while trying to be this unsung hero, I can actually believe anime Lusamine is a good person who legitimately cares about her children. It's just that crazy psycho tentacle fusion Lusamine was too interesting not to love the most.
*Side note:* I actually think the Ultra games handled Mohn fine. Sure it's depressing but I think it was bitter sweet for Lusamine to let her husband go and live a good life not wanting to complicate things. Plus now we have the good ending version so everthings cool.
The anime tends to improve on the female protagonist in the games and characters like the gym leaders and the elite four.
I mean, except for May,Dawn and Serena they are all blank slates for the Player to immerse themselves in, so making a worse version of them is kinda impossible
Great videos you guys made today!! I think my favorite differences and the ones are probably the most interesting, are the Aether foundation family. The many differences between each of their counterparts makes them such great topics of discussion. Gary is also up there along with Iris!
I think it could be a good idea to expand this idea to the manga. There's a lot of surprises in it.

You are right about that but there's no stopping Amourshippers. It's good to speak up and tell them facts but I'd let them dream whatever they want because they'll keep switching the story around.

A lot of early character artwork seemed to see Ash and Red have similar personalities, being energetic battlers. Then Gold and Silver decided to make a joke about Red being a silent protagonist, and it caused him to evolve to be more of a stoic compared to the energetic Ash.
The Pokemon Trainer in Smash seems like a composite to me with Red's design and Ash's personality.
Thats interesting cause im p sure a lot of the early RGB artwork is just Red and his grumpy face
6:50 I don't think you understood the point of that scene in the games if you think it was "depressing". Throughout the game, lusamine was a psychotic and abusive mother to her children as you've stated once mohn went missing. Her desperate search for mohn has led her down this dark path, but eventually it was through the help of her family (and the protagonist) that she was able to change for the better. Now upon seeing mohn again who had lost every single one of his memories, the person who she couldn't bare to be apart from which resulted in her downward spiral, she finally is mature enough to move on from the trauma. Mohn isn't her husband anymore, he has his own life. And obsessing over the past won't help you progress for the future. That's the reason the games included this scene. It's bittersweet, yes, but it isn't depressing.

What's depressing to me is how the game treats Lusamine as thought she was the only one who was affected by Mohn's disappearance. We don't get any insight on how her children feel {even though Gladion witnessed the scene). It was all about Lusamine and how she felt.
@@BeccaWantsToDraw Well from what we do know, we can piece together that Lillie and Gladion were able to move on from the trauma of them losing their father years ago, unlike Lusamine who couldn't let go of it. Although in the anime it's a different story, I'm just referring to their game counterparts

It actually kinda makes me mad that brock is just never tan in any of the games. I like tan brock. He looks so weird when he's just..not tan. That's my only gripe though. Anime brock easily beats game brock

Hop story in the games actually was a reference to Bianca game story in BW, where she wants to learn and bond with pokemon but her family denies it, so she became professor Juniper assistant since she wasn't able to stop team Plasma so she decided to help others in her own way, the difference is that Hop tried to be the best and he is certainly strong but the handle of being at his brother's shadow made him sad and angry so he having the chance to be an assistant or a professor someday was much better imo.

Very nice to see this and more would be good down the line, as there are many characters to do. Heck, even comparing with the manga, Pokemon Adventures/Pokespe, would be good sometime, as they really do some great things with the characters. The difference between May and Sapphire is astounding. ^_^
Fun fact shauna is technically the first queer rival in the games, as her dialogue is the same regardless of who the player character is

Also, GameFreak and/or the localizers went back on that in Sun and Moon with Lillie's dialogue at Execcutor Cave.

When it comes to a comparison like this, I feel like Kalos characters immediately come out of the conversation. The only character I can see anyone liking the game counterpart more than the anime is Shauna. The rest are dwarfed by the anime at least in my opinion.

From what I know this I think around the end of Sun and Moon Pokemon company might ask the anime production to closely match some characters to their game counterparts I start to notice this when Dawn has a different shade of blue then she usually does now I know that sounds ridiculous but Erica's design also changed as well
Ash is actually in the games before Master EX. In the Sun and Moon demo. In the start you will have a gift Ash-Greninja with an Original trainer of Ash. Also there are some easter eggs of Ash photo.
To me, I see Serena more as the anime Leaf more than based on her actual game counterpart, and see it more as a coincidence, given her relationship with Ash, who is based on Red, and her clothing, especially in the first Season of XY and Journeys.
But her clothing is basically the same as her game counterpart
I would love a version of this but with the Manga Versions of the Characters from Pokespe
They really made characters look better in the anime than the games, especially with Cilan, Iris (in journeys), Serena, Dawn, Lillie and even Ash himself

While the anime takes a lot of creative liberties and has definitely established itself as its own thing to tell stories totally unique to itself, the Pokémon Special manga follows the games much more closely (probably why I like it more), while still really fleshing out most of the characters from the games. Both adaptations are awesome, but I always prefer the ones that are closer to the source material
about ash in masters, he got a battle theme of his own based on 1-2-3 so he now even has his own battle theme
Cilan and iris definitely had the anime flip their likability in the beginning. Iris got a lot of hate in the beginning and needed to work to shake it off (journeys probably brought her back to neutral) while cilan definitely improved and was the better of the two companions for bw.

Brock in Pokémon origins is so cool! He’s the best brock for me, the way he guides red and helps him learn about battling with Pokémon is awesome. He seemed like a older brother figure/mentor. Brock in diamond and pearl was great too and helped dawn out a lot.

I'd also say that starting with Sun and Moon, Ash is more comparable to Elio than Red.
This sounds controversial but I actually prefer Lillie (sun and moon) in the games then the anime because I think she has a much better story in sun and moon game’s in my opinion and even though her personality is kinda the same in the anime, her following you in the game is making her grow and grow to even the point where she fights with you against faba in the team rainbow rocket storyline
I love how you subtracted the Let's Go game's blue or whatever his name is.
Also in the post game of X&Y if Serena is the player character when she first meats Emma who is 16 years old Emma Pokemon Espurr is afraid of Serena at first because Emma's Espurr is afraid of adults in fact a lot of the anime characters are younger then their game versions

You know I was thinking about a plausible pokemon movie where Lilly in the anime and Lilly from the game would meet.
The story of this movie about two worlds, one where Lilly's life is closer to the anime and the other where Lilly's life is closer to the games. Some dementional what not made the Lilly from the good Lunsamean meet up with Lilly from the evil Lunsamean.
The good Lunsamean in this story is a little more bubbly and slow witted, and has a craving for a specific soda brand. Then the two Lillie's realized that the soda was counting the toxins that made evil Lunsamean evil.

I think the anime of X and Y saved Diantha, The games made her forgettable and she only was told by being a famous actress. How the anime handles is that they said she is the champion. She even went to see on Kalos’ future with Olympia, Helped defeat the giant rock, defending Kalos with the Vines. The XY anime had her saved by the skin. They turned her into Cynthia 2.0

I kinda liked the dark version of Lillie's mum from the games. Especially since she had a bigger connection to team skull Frankly I wish Sun and Moon got a little bit darker but I guess they didn't want to traumatise the children anymore. Also did we really need Ash to care for the pokemon that was meant to be for Lillie? No we bloody didn't! Sorry but this is why we need a mature Pokemom anime without bloody Ash hogging the spotlight!
If you want to talk about Ash hogging the spotlight in the Sun and Moon anime, you can't forget the moment he pulls out 10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt against Motherbeast Lusamine with barely any foreshadowing.
You guys forgot that Nebby stay in the bag in the anime and in the games, Nebby doesn't.
