  • Which vinyl brand is the hardest to use for beginners? In this video I show and talk about what makes a film hard to install. Simply choosing the most expensive brand doesn't mean it's easy.

    Honestly 3M is one of the films I began learning with and disagree that’s its difficult to use.
    The 3 I began with are 3M, Avery Denison, and KPMF at my friends shop here in Vegas , KPMF easily has some of the best colors but is the hardest to work with (but the quality is extremely good once installed, it’s just very very sticky when trying to apply which gets annoying ). Avery I’ve noticed is the easiest to lay and can be done with no heat at all but 3M is definitely a good starter wrap that has the best quality
    (This is not me trying to disqualify what CK believes or that I think he’s wrong, I support him and and his channel)

      Really 3m is difficult to wrap. Did u observe urself

    • @CKWraps
      @CKWraps  Před 4 lety +11

      You're right, I'd put KPMF up there in difficulty but the quality is worth the effort. Most beginners end up stretching over smaller areas which tends to lead to discoloration until their techniques improve. Having a film with less discoloration makes the install look better because it's easier to maintain the finish. Again this is subject to finish types. For example chrome is difficult no matter what

    • @---DW---
      @---DW--- Před 4 lety +3

      Ive trained with 3M and found it really nice to use, but I used KPMF to wrap my own car which was the first car I ever wrapped, and jesus christ it was hard. It was very sticky, and needed a LOT of heat to stretch, then lost heat very quickly. Also, I noticed KPMF is very brittle when cold, and rips very very easily, but when my car was finished it looked amazing. The colour is fantastic, and even on the stretched parts, there was no discolouration.

    I am going to wrap my Motorhome. For now just the flat fiberglass panels. CK your videos are why I am even going to attempt this job. I got some samples of 3m, Avery and Vivid and they are all totally different. I wanted to test colors and ease of use. All seem to have pros and cons. The 3m seemed the most willing to rework until I tried reworking the hell out of a section of Vivid. Avery just stretches like crazy but seemed the easiest to wrinkle. Vivid is stiff as hell until you heat then it just goes like a noodle. The stiffness makes it less easy to wrinkle I think. So for my flat panels I think it is probably the best. Especially for the price. They all surprise me in their willingness to rework. Like if it sucks just peel it up and start over. Thanks for the info!

    • @CKWraps
      @CKWraps  Před 2 lety

      Finding balance with adding heat is the key ingredient. Each film requires a different amount of heat in order to become pliable while Avery is mostly pliable in room temperature.

    Those lines/white haze/blotches are annoyingly common in gloss 3M 1080 gloss colors. Here and there, so inconsistent. Those areas can be post heated after install and should minimize those imperfections. Slow and high heat but keep moving to avoid frying. Been curious about your favorite films, or favorites for certain applications, repositionability. 3M, Arlon, Vivid, Avery, Oracal? Had a bad experience with avery on a boat wrap. Print through in the adhesive, so I removed it and used oracal. I have avoided avery ever since. Vivid chrome was inexpensive for a small job on a truck doing accents but challenging to work with. Orafol has been my preference for the best gloss and color depth and ability to stretch without discoloration or lifting. Haven't used vivid on anything else but maybe I need to look.

I want to drive my car all the way from Florida, all the way up to you and wrap my car with you, but that would be a very very expensive wrap. I mean unless if I pay for all the material and I’ll do 99% of the work, I would just love your help. But that would never happen sadly. 😢😢😢 I’ve wrapped little things like car interior things, I put my own graphics kit on my drz400sm. Which I wanna wrap all in carbon fiber. So I have the cone crept. I do and cut all of my own vinyl stickers and place my vinyl cuts off of my plotter so I have the general concept of it. But it would me an awesome thing, I would feel so honored.

    I was taught by a 3M trainer to never heat a small area and stretch too far.
    If you need to stretch, heat over a large area and try not to stretch more than 15-20%.
    As we know, different brands need different install techniques, and this is why people think 3M is hard to use. If you know how to use it, its not hard at all.

    • @CKWraps
      @CKWraps  Před 4 lety

      You're absolutely right. Never stretch over small areas. But in the title, this is more geared towards beginners and showing that another brand is more forgiving when learning

    • @---DW---
      @---DW--- Před 4 lety +1

      @@CKWraps Yes you're right. I used cheap ebay vinyl to learn the basics with, as 3M and Avery is quite expensive in the UK, and its money wasted when you just need to learn.
      I noticed KPMF is quite cheap over here, and although its hard to use, its a good learning material, because if you learn with hard material then it can only get easier with the good stuff 👍

    Where i live chinese vinyl is in most cases , the only option, because the main brands (3m , vivid , etc).Are crazy expensive... So .. what we do to avoid no name brands we use oracal 651.. but is a vinyl with no air release.. so it's quite dificult to wrap a car with it... ( And oracal hasn't have a lot of finishes ,so if you want a brushed metal vinyl for example, you 100% will have to buy a chinese film).

      even ppf are rarely to find in here... my prediction ppf will be booming in 2020, replacing nano coating..

    Hi man, I would like to start a business wrap in my country (there's just one but doesn't work full wraps, just chrome deletes and carbon fibre hoods), but because of the currency exchange and economic situation it has to be super cheap. Around 500 USD for a simple glossy color, this means that my only option for vinyls is no name brands. People here are not willing to spend 2K on a wrap, not even a paint job. The supercar community here is very small also (they are more likely to pay for a wrap with better materials). I would like to get your opinion on the situation, anyone's opinion actually helps! Thank you so much! Love the videos and wraps!

      Mario Restaura i wrap cars in the philippines for usd250 that includes all the materials and my profit. I use chinese wraps. Once properly installed. Appearance is just the same. But i am now living in the u.k and most company here, uses avery. I applied in yiannimize but i was not given a chance to have a trial because the manager said that my last experience is 1 year ago. They are wrapping luxury cars and they are afraid to gamble. In my mind, its ok, they are afraid of the risk considering ive used the worlds hrdest to instsll materials and they only used avery and yet they told me that my last experience is a year ago.😂

Also people here are super ultra cheap, they are not willing to pay for good quality. On top of that Supercar community is super small, like 10 Ferraris, 2 Lambos, 2 Mclarens, 2 or 3 GT-R, some AMGs, that leaves me targeting the civics and lancers who are own by people awfully cheap! You cant test that bro from a small piece and stretch them, if you want to compare them and test. Try with large panel like hood or doors. Youll see chinese wraps easily creates adhesive lines and bubbles for large areas. One problem is that uou cannot stretch chinese wraps like what you are doing in mirrors or door handles. Youll end up failing after few weeks
