  • In this video I am restoring an old Tonka Jeep from 1982. Unfortunately the roll cage broke. That's why I made a new one. A round steel of 4mm was used as material. The steel was bent with a bending machine. I soldered the individual components with brass solder. The body of the jeep was sandblasted and then powder coated. Over the years the wheels have turned yellow, so the rims were placed in a hydrogen peroxide bath for 48 hours. The bikes were taken out again after 48 hours. The result is impressive. The rims are white again and look like new. In the end all components were assembled. The Tonka Jeep looks new. Now it can be used by children again for the next few years.

Always awesome to see older toys given new life. Considering how rusted out it was and only part of the roll cage was broken really does give credence to Tonka Tough. Well done. Very satisfying restoration, and excellent work on the roll cage!

I had one exactly like this when i was a kid.I loved that orange color and my roll cage was broke in almost the same spot.I wish it would have had a custom metal roll cage .Just an awesome job on the resto.

Great job....but the real highlight is the fabrication of the roll cage and the clever jury-rigged soldering apparatus 🤣🤣🤣...gotta love the great combination of craftsmanship and innovation! Best wishes and stay healthy.

To make the wheels pop, spray some white spray paint on a piece of paper and press the wheels on the wet paint

I have one that I'm restoring too. I saw that you drilled out the steering wheel. Where did the new steering wheel come from? Is it a new one?
