This poor rust bucket was barely recognizable as a Tonka Truck! There were enough clues left for me to be able to tell that it was a 1973 Mighty Tonka Roller, model # 3910. But aside from that, this poor thing had not been shown any love over the decades, and was in serious need of a restoration! At first glance this looked like an impossible restoration that just needed to be scrapped for spare parts. But with a little love, a few replacement parts, and LOTS of metal work, I was able to restore this beauty back to it's original glory!

You did a great job! You’ll have entire Tonka toy line finished soon, would be a really cool collection.
+Rescue & Restore thanks bro! They’d look great on my man cave shelves, but my daughter keeps swiping them and stuffing them full of Barbies 🤣
As great as this channel is, you need to do some more videos as well Rescue and Restore, I've been patiently waiting!
jayocular haha if it was easy I’d post a new video everyday. Thanks for being patient.
@@RescueRestore He's still out there watering his lawn.
I was thinking "I guess I'll watch this while I wait for a new 'Rescue & Restore' video" and then here you are!
I've no idea why these videos suddenly started popping up as recommendations and I've literally been watching these for hours...
Same here. I didn't even know people did toy restorations and now I can't stop watching. I think what makes them so satisfying is that we get the instant gratification of seeing it all happen in 20 minutes instead of over several episodes.
What amazes me is that I used to play with toys like these when I was a boy back in the 1950s I'm not surprised that children neglect their toys today.
Right!
Me too

Hello Fellow restorer! I liked this Tonka coming back to life - those are so worth saving. I also tried my hand at couple of those restorations and they are so satisfying!
Awesome I just like that ending of making change from a quarter 😂
Dear Santa, at 55 years old, I realize I'm not a young kid anymore, but I've been extra extra good this year, so could you put this under my tree this year? It's been too long since I've played with a Tonka toy.
This has to be my favourite out of all your restorations, the love and workmanship you gave to the roller is commendable, it really is. In just a few minutes in watching your videos it’s a thumbs up every time. Now, I’m concerned you’ll run out of Tonka models to bring back to life, hope you something else to share. Best wishes from the UK.
This wasn't an impossible restoration! It was extremely difficult, but what a great outcome!
This channel is grand. I am happy to see the trend going on where old cars and trucks I used to play with when I was a kid are being restored to their former glory.
Ahhhh back in the day when toys could actually be played with!!!
Nice to see someone who clearly takes a lot of pride in their work and covers all the details like making sure the rivets color match
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

You saved it from oblivion. Bravo!
The sandblaster needs to be restored too! 🤣
Harbor Freight blaster. needs modification! like a new gun!
@@christiaanbrown4278 yes the cabinet is great but the gun that comes with it can suck a thick fat one
I am so impressed. All that work really paid off. I remember wanting one of these as a child in the 70's but alas ... too expensive for my pocket money.
Just finished the Seabees earth mover and thought it was distressed, then saw this. Love that you rescue these pieces of history. From forlorn to fabulous!
Rrttt
Just a gorgeous restoration! Bravo!!!
Wow. What a fantastic restoration. Thanks for allowing me to relive my childhood! Priceless...
Kudos for leaving the printing on the screen long enough for us to actually read it. you would be surprised how rare that is.
Looking good with this old staple of the sandbox road making. Nice job
Thanks for sharing this video with me.
thanks for watching!
I'm not into cars and stuff like this but I remember these toys from way back. Good you can bring them back to life. Everything is made cheaply these days. Great job.
As a child I am pretty sure I had every tanka there was. Your videos bring back happy memories for me.
Don't let the Mrs see you putting that stuff in the dishwasher, she'll go ballistic.
You can say that again.
shhhhhh don't tell her
Yeah, hope you've got a comfy couch, bro…
I sure enjoy these Tonka restorations! I was always intrigued by the details of my neighbors Tonka toys that we played with when I was a kid. My family could never afford to buy me my own though.
Thanks for watching!

Such a good job ! Very pleasant to watch... subscribed !!
I remember when Sears sold these big time. I am 59 years old now, but seeing you restore these very trucks I used to play with when I was a little boy, it's like me taking a trip back in time to the 1960s and early 1970s. Thanks to you, many others are following suit.
Amazing job you did there, nicely done. It looks sweet.
Very nice... Such a rusty toy that looks new after you did your magic. Thumbs Up!
One of my trade school instructors (74-76) was a design engineer at Tonka in Minnetonka, MN way back in the 60's. Might have been on the start up team. I can't remember. I didn't have him for a class instructor. But, he was always in the shop showing young lads how to master the trades. He really loved tool and die work for metal and plastics. This was extra fun for me to watch. Thank you.
thanks for watching!
WOW!! Outstanding!! Congratulations!!
I had this one when I was little... Thank you so much for the good memory, didn't have that many ❤
Thanks for watching!
Brilliant. Love the change from one coin.
thank you!
Awesome job!!
Truly never thought that would be possible. Incredible.
Thanks for watching!
Well done! Thump Up!
Thanks!
Man it's been a while since I've seen such a rusty Tonka! I usually prefer them in original condition, but this one definitely needed and deserved a restoration. It looks amazing now!
Another great job with your restoring projects.
Loved those old Tonkas when I was a kid. Playing in the dirt was so much better with them!
Thanks for watching!
I love watching your videos this one by far was my favorite it was mind blowing to watch it brings back a lot of my childhood thanks keep up the good work cant wait to see what you do next
+Derrick Cordick thanks! 😎
Excellent work, very enjoyable to watch the video. The professional work, the cleanliness, the accuracy, a great video of the renovation art! And this road roller, oh, if I had a roller like that when I was a kid ... Thanks for a great video with a funny ending
ThankS! Glad you enjoyed watching!
Wow, I felt as if you had restored one of my toys. Thanks for this sharing.
memory is a strange thing... I can now vividly remember pulling the cab off the one I had and putting it back on (no clear plastic).
This vid. was a gift I can't thank you enough for.
Thanks for watching!
Dio's favorite childhood toy
Thanks for watching!
Gives life
This video would be a good story for a children's book. Little rusty thrown out toy gets a new life and a new kid.
lol cool idea
Basically the story of all my restorations. The toys I do go directly to my son. They are toys from me and my Dad's youth. Someone should write and illustrate a book. www.thejunkmanadv.com/toy-restorations.html
I had a Tonka Toy collection as a child. The steam roller was my favorite. I passed them on to my son's and they to there s kids. I hope they know what they have. So little can mean so much. Ex. job on the restore. Thank You.
Excellent restoration

Love it man. My neighbor had one growing up we had loads of with our Tonka trucks
I stumbled upon this and let me tell you. It brings me back to when I was a kid. You do amazing work. I would love to hear one of these narrated just to hear your thoughts and history beyond the repair. Thanks for sharing your craft.
Absolutely fantastic work! I never would have known you had rebuilt it if I hadn't seen you do it. Outstanding!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the video. I love watching these Tonka toys as they are restored. I had very few as a kid, but boy, I would have LOVED this one, LOL.
Yeah I would have loved this one too! Had to wait until I was an adult with disposable income to be able to get all of the toys I didn't get as a kid lol
The five people who disliked this video didn't have Tonka toys growing up.
+Camera2Studios or they had toys and no friends to play with them. Either way, they are sad, and have my pity. 🙃
Naaaaa, I was (and still am) a Matchbox toddler, but I still gave a thumb up, it was a pretty nice job! 👍👌👏👏👏
Also, Jotaro.
Great job as always, but I don’t think I’ll be eating off your dishes now. 🤣🎉🍾
Awesome restoration !!!!!!!!
One of the all time great Tonka restorations.
THANKS!!
Toy restoration should really be more of a thing than it is. Imagine having a toy with all these memories, restoring it to pass it to the next generation so it can continue to accumulate more memories of good time. The world needs more objects with such positive energy concentrations but they all end up getting tossed away...
Nice job. That didn't look restorable in anyway at all. Looks better than new.
+Martin Burch thank you! 😎
My 3 year old discover restoration today. Wanted to watch with me. Was captivated. I wish you would narrate what was happening and the tools used to I can start these projects next summer with him.
maybe in the future

Where you got that missing cabin from?
Ebay
Great stuff! I'd love to get myself something like this for a restoration project although in saying that, ive got a ton of projects already so maybe wait a while on that one.
We all say that I think. We don't mind fixing a hobby type project, but can't stand yard work or house repair, Lol. We'll work on our hot rods all day but procrastinate changing the oil in the wife's car.
lol I'll never be able to finish all of the projects that I've got started.

Thanks!! Only worked that one time though. lol
I thought I had all the Tonka's didn't even no this one existed great job well done
thanks!
Where do you find replacement parts like the cab? I’ve got a mighty loader that’s missing the cab. 🙁
you can find them on Ebay from time to time. Most of the time I'll buy old beat up ones for parts.
You do amazing work! Thanks,
Those plastic and rubber parts came out that good just after the dishwasher? It looks like they were spray painted.
that's right mate, he has shown his process in another video..
@@gaygronlore13 thanks, I'll look for that video
Kinda interesting to go back and watch your older videos and see your progression in technique. Your method of testing your restoration in this one gave me a good laugh :)
FANTASTIC!!!
Sandblaster looked a bit weak, maybe airflow wasn't enough or the sand used wasn't enough aggressive for all that rust. Awesome job btw :D
I thought maybe he was running out of blasting material. It sounded puttering (if that makes sense).
@@tracymclaughlinholmes677 if you see his videos , it has always the same "power" so i think that It's not a Matter running out of Sand, but the he has lowered the airflow from the compressor.
Yeah, I've watched a few more and it does seem to be consistently under powered. Still better to be underpowered than not have it at all.
@@tracymclaughlinholmes677 Well, since i've discovered the sandblaster , i can't watch a restoration video if there is no sandblasting 😂
He needs new airflow regulator.
Greetings! The final test made my day ;))))
lol thanks!
Man! The time and effort put into this project was well worth it!!! It’s so beautiful! The metal restoration is really impressive!! Loved this!
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic job. That's worth a subscription!
Thanks!
Is that what we call squeezing every last penny out of it...?
🇬🇧👍
19:29 LOL! I was expecting one of those long coins you get from the penny rollers at National Museums.
MatchstalkMan I like this part so much 🤣
OR, when you placed one on a rail and had a train run it over.
lol maybe next time
Me too!😛
Beautiful. Never had the Roller as a child. Nice.
thanks for watching!
To the 27 people who did not like this RESTORATION. WHY??? And to the Dude who did it. GREAT!!!!
thanks!
What is up with that sandblaster?
+Bob Short not sure. Switched to an aluminum oxide for this project. Couldn’t tell if it was that, or if the thing was so rusted that it just didn’t show well on video. Guess we’ll see on the next project.
Sounds blocked
Might need a bigger air line to it
I think he was using a low pressure as to not warp the thin metal pieces.
@@TRGRESTORATIONS thats either not enough pressure, blocked or needs a new nozzle, nothing to do with the grit your using
@12:39 I spy, with my little eye, a Nylint fire engine in the background... ;-)
+M. Mitchell Marmel shhhh 🤫 that video will be coming up in a couple weeks
oh. yes
It looks more like a 1969 model hook and ladder Tonka fire truck
@@luisfernandomendoza2062 And so it was! And recently restored, too! :D
BEAUTIFUL JOB
Better than new. Beautiful restoration.
Thanks!
That pitted metal is a pain. I have experimented with Alvin's products in my motorcycle restorations. I have some other industrial repair epoxies products to try myself. I might make a specific video just on trying these out.

Nothing like the patina on a well used Tonka Toy!
Only one word,.
Fantastic,
Keep up the great hobby, I wouldn't call it work because you obviously love what you do.
It turned out to be a lovely job. Well done.
Thanks!
Ok, 3 questions & a statement. Statement #1. That is freaking awesome! That thing looks better than it did new! Great job! Question #1. What do you do with the items after you restore them? Question #2. Do you sell off any pieces and if so, where can I find them for purchase? & Question #3.Do you ever measure the hours it takes to complete a job? I mean with this one, it looks like it took a large amount of time... With filler drying, all the sanding etc. I'd like to know how long the projects take. Bonus statement. You are awesome! You easily got my subscribe and thumbs up!!
+Fred Bosco thanks! Most of the things I restore are put on a shelf in my man cave room. But here lately most of the tonka trucks have been swiped by my 10 year old daughter and filled with Barbies lol. Time spent for this project, not counting drying time overnight, but if I were working somewhere and put it in terms of billable hours, I’d say about 20 hours total. Some of that is spent messing with camera equipment and lighting and trying to find good filming angles though.
Question #4. How mad does your wife get when she find out what you're using the dish washer for???? Lol.
@@jonnybgood-xj5bk :D
@@TRGRESTORATIONS Filled with Barbies? Oh noes....
When I realize I had these toys when I was a kid, and I tortured them without even knowing they were little pieces of art and very valuable... Damn I feel stupid right now...
