Rusty 1970's Tonka Jeep Ambulance Restoration

- Hey everyone and welcome back to another restoration. In today's video I am tackling a super rusted out Tonka Jeep Ambulance! This thing looks like it was spent most of it's life out in the elements. I started by disassembling the ambulance and striping the paint and dirt off each part. I then sandblasted and powdercoated all the metal components. I paint matched the powdercoat with Rustoleum spray paint. To get the old yellowed plastic back to it's original white shine, I bleached the parts with Hydrogen Peroxide, OxiClean, and UV light. The original dome light was faded and lost all red color so I busted out the calipers and modeled up a new part. Using an Elegoo Mars 3D resin printer I was able to replicate the original bulb. All chrome parts were refinished with Bare Metal Chrome foil. What a tedious and frustrating process! I reassembled and placed it on the shelf with the other restorations.

Great job
you did a great job restoring the ambulance.
I had this when i was a kid. My grandpa bought it for me at the Western Auto.. I still see it sitting on the shelf in the store. thanks for sharing this.. good memories.
James Uerkvitz cool😈
I've never seen those before CZcams. But Im from Scandinavia, I guess they weren't sold in Denmark. I remember the Matchbox model cars, my little brother had a lot of them. I'm a girl so I never got any, but I played with my brothers toys lol
I had this one too. My first Tonka. :) 4 decades ago. Thanks :)
That is so cool! My wife had the same truck as a kid. It's now at her mother's house. She was so happy to see this being restored. 👏😁👍
This was the greatest iron toy ambulance that was ever revamped.
"YOU" Sir, are the Rembrandt of Tonka vehicle restorations!!!! As a child, they were my favorite toys from Santa.
It is a sincere pleasure to watch you "meticulously" bring these vehicles back to their...better than...original condition.
Kindest regards, Ben
You made my 6 year old heart flutter when I saw this just now! That was one of my favorite toys as a kid. Thank you for the memories.
Great restoration on the Jeep Cherokee Rescue Vehicle 👏 👌 👍
Next tim you get rust on the plastic, use a product called CLR. It stands for Calcium, Lime and Rust. It's great stuff!
Im not surprised this toy was still intact, the company's motto for years was " BUILT TONKA TOUGH"!!!!!!
Came for the Tonka Jeep, stayed for the sandblasting. My brother had one when he was a kid. Nice to see it restored.
Excellent restoration!! like new again.
Takes me back to the TV show EMERGENCY. Cool restoration.
Alweer een schitterende restauratie! Wat een metamorfose.
Very nice job ! Thanks
There were such ambulances in Chile In the 70's and 80's.
Not Toys, but real and authentic mechanisms.
Fantastic job.
Really great restoration. 👍👍👍
That aluminum tape is a fantastic idea! Great restoration!
Another fantastic & awesome restoration done by a brilliant & expert restoration master!! Thank you for rescuing these beautiful toys & giving them new lives
It’s a stunner! I can’t believe you just had the perfect spare window piece lying around!
Yes, and how could ,,we,, rescue the original one, was it too gone? Couse its a problem not only by this one(
I think you should show more of cleaning. For example, how the rust stains were removed from this white interior. This moment when you take it of from cleaning solution, how you cleaned front grill, how you cleaned rubbers :) i think this will make video better because it will show better attention to detail and how much time it took to clean everything :) this will make even better impression :) but great video :) relaxing to watch :) greetings from Poland :)
@John smith yes :) final result is always cool :)

@@CATAZTR0PHE a dziękuję :) pozdrawiam :)
These guys that give a thumbs down obviously don't appreciate the time and effort here. Great job.
@Lyle Grandersom BRAH????? grown men down call people BRAH or BRUH. The thumbsup/down is for the video. using it because someone doesn't like advertisements doesn't make a damn bit of sense..and that's what CZcams red is for. no ads. but thanks for the heads up.
Sure brings back a lot of memories. Great job. And once again thank you for no annoying music.
Tudo e vagabundo
That's an awesome end result
Hi bro 👋👋👋 good to see you 🤝🤝🤝 very good restoration Jeep Ambulance 🚑 👍👍👍
Very nice! Matched with white Jeep tow truck makes a nice set! Good work, nice finishes & extra touches to complete the toys! Very well done!
I'm going thru your older videos, and I can see how your skill and completeness of restorations has really improved over time and various projects!
I love restoration videos
you, sir, are a hero to everyone over the age of 30.
Lol 😀😅😂🤣
Beautiful model well done.
Very Nice ! I had this Exact ambulance when I was a kid. The only difference is that mine came with an EMT Action Figure man.
I could imagine a custom Ecto-1 with this
Jasper Walling agreed that would be awesome a ghostbusters fan here😜
Jasper Walling Never know he might find the original one and bring it back
As a fair criticism not having the door handles painted makes a difference. There's something about the finished car that seems incomplete and I think that's it
Awesome work.
One of the finest toy automobile restorations I have seen. Bravo!!!
Awesome job ! 😎👍
Great job, excellent!. It made me remember some toys when I was a child. It´s nice to see old toys restored. Greetings from Argentina.
Beautiful restoration. That one was really crusty. I had one of those when i was a kid. Thanks for the fond memories
I had one of these!!!! FABULOUS!!!
Nice! Got mine on my 4th birthday. 45 years on and my kids played with it, hope my grandkids will too!
Looks about a million times better......
That's amazing. Gives me hope for my old childhood Mighty Dump, which my mother used as a garden planter for many years after I grew up and moved away...
You are lucky! After I left, my little brother used mine for a chamber pot next to the bed. Gave a whole new meaning to 'Mighty Dump' .
Send it to him :)
I remember playing with this toy ✌️
Great job. Really nice
Very nice job!
Had this ambulance when I was a kid. I got it at the general store in the small California town of June Lake.
look like someone was inspired by rescue and restore
It looks like Rescue and Restore was inspired by Hand Tool Rescue.
There is a lot of rescue channels. 🙄
@@liviabunzen Indeed!!
It looks like you guys like to look
Too violent and no gloves... He needs to excercise more ;)
Btw good channel.
Whoa! The plastic windshield came out perfect.
Excelente trabajo Joe
Nicely done!
Wow!
Beautiful restoration.
The new glass on your sandblaster cabinet "looks" great.😉
That’s awesome I have that exact same ambulance that I’ve had since The mid 70’s! Great job man!!
Yay another retro Ambulance back in the road to help the sick/injured 😊
😲😲😲What a wonderful restoration !!!!!!!👏👏👏
I had this ambulance as a child. Nice to see you restore it.
No wonder I couldn’t tear these things up when I was little. Did you see him struggling to take it apart? He just started gripping and ripping. Holy hell!!
Joe, GJ!
Absolutely beautiful restoration job.
Felicitaciones, es Relajante y satisfactorio ver su Trabajo... 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Love the turntable at the end, very satisfying!
It looks awesome! Amazing work & restoration, good sir!
Great job yet again, Keep up the great work! P.S. is it just Me or does this kinda look like the Ecto 1 from Ghostbusters ?
For rust on plastic, I use Lime Away, by the makers of The Works toilet bowl cleaner.
You could have Retrobrited that original windshield.
Retrobrite?
Great job😊
WOW incredible job!! I have one that I might need to tackle now.
A gorgeous restoration from a total rust-bucket! Nice work! 🤠
I could watch this channel all day. 😍😍😍
Awesome informational educational video experience Y'alls
A very good resto. It looks brilliant powder coated, much better than the resto you did on the Steam-shovel.Powder coating is harder wearing than paint.
The first thing that came to mind when i saw the thumbnail was Ghostbusters.
Rustbusters

Parabéns, quando a gente pensa, que não tem mais jeito, você consegue.

Great restoration! Love it.
Better than new.
thanks for posting this video. i had that ambulance when i was a kid.
Cool video
My grandad used to repair or restore other people's toys about 40 odd years ago. And one day he told me of an old tin yacht he was repairing and on taking it apart he found a rolled up piece of paper inside. The paper had been hand written with the date of 14 August 1920, It then went on to list the cost of a house and the weekly wage of the average person plus the price of individual items that made up the daily shopping. When he repaired and put the boat back together he also put the list back in the boat exactly where he found it. Watching what you do just made the connection. Have you come across anything like this in your restoration work?
Cool story! The only thing I've found in a toy was an old padlock stuck in a Doepke fire truck I'm working on now. I did find some old 60's matchbooks and sunoco leaflets under the package tray in my 64 Chevy, that was pretty neat!
@@joe_diy . You should put your name and date of restoration in your work, That way you will have left something for future restorers to check back on especially if they end up in a toy museum.
I've watched enough of these now to start to seriously wonder what restoration does to the value of the toy.
@hawkturkey to tell the truth, I'm not sure that the value always moves in the same direction. I mean granted, original in good condition is always most valuable. But some of these restores really seem like they widen the potential base for resale to make the tours worth more.
I suspect that like any other antique, the connoisseur will keep looking for that well kept original, while people with fond memories of their favorite childhood toys might be more likely to purchase this guys after than his before
Que restauración tan impecable, lo felicitó por su trabajo, saludos desde colombia
