    Ah Jaw droppingly romantic story. I am great full for the video.
    SIR
    I heard a news that Balochistan government is determined to re start this line and a huge budget allocation has also been sanctioned. But political instability may cause to shadow the project.
    Secondly, it was Afghan war is the cause of closure.

    So poignant.. my grandfather was a railway officials having served in Shimla- Kalka during 1930-40s. Have heard so many stories of railways from my father as well which I can relate to. There is another narrow gauge from Pathankot in Punjab to Joginder Nagar in Himachal which is very old , functional and beautiful to travel.

      I feel jealous when I see how well Indian Railways are doing. We have shut down and destroyed all that could have been some wonderful tourist attractions.

    Fascinating account. And what a pity that rulers of Pakistan frittered away their heritage.

    • @salmanrashid8880

      Destroyed it. Zia was the main culprit by building NLC that stole the railway's freight. No freight and the railway began to die.

    Beautiful & nostalgic story of the bygone era. I recall my dad telling me about the 1970 winter storm story and how he got stuck in his jeep while serving as an AEN in PWD in Quetta.
    It's quite sad how in Pakistan the tracks laid by the British with great effort have been discarded and put to disuse while India added more than 25000 kms of track.
    I also recall seeing the steam engine operating on the Tando Adam loop line via Hala to Nawabshah and Ranipur which ran parallel to the National highway. I believe that the Rail system got a major hit in the 1980's when NLC was made as an alternate to goods transport plus our own indifference to protect and maintain the rail assets.
    I also recall seeing "Kandhar State Railways" written on Rukk station near Shikarpur, something which few people have heard.
    Truly enjoyed it listening to you. Keep it up.

    • @salmanrashid8880
      @salmanrashid8880 Před 2 lety +4

      NLC was the coffin into which dictator Zia put Pakistan Railway. No freight means no profit for a railway.

      @@salmanrashid8880 Absolutely. Pakistan lost its assets while Generals became filthy rich. I recall reading how Ejaz-ul-Haque wanted to be the first one having $100 million before Humayun Akhter.

    Sir,we don't distort names ,it was angrej who distorted them....e.g. here in this part of India a station named Satona (pronounce 't' as in talwar)was written as Satuna(t as in tuna) they even distorted a name of a small rivulet named 'Lahuki' to anglicized 'Lanky'...seems angrej named the places as their tongue spinned conveniently.

    Very interesting but sad saga of Pak railways, it’s unfortunate that they are not able to maintain an existing infrastructure, very sad. It’s very common to see people living on railway land, this department, like several other white elephants, is inefficient and economically not sustainable, thanks to the political interference.

    • @salmanrashid8880
      @salmanrashid8880 Před 2 lety

      Political interference is a small matter. It was dictator Zia who killed Pakistan Railway by stealing all its freight and giving it to NLC. When a railway does not haul freight, it makes no profit. Passenger haulage never means profit.

    Those 3 refurbished train engines with a hope and opportunity for tourism, I think during 1997 to 1999 Mr. Nawaz sharif was then Prime Minister of Pakistan, so basically we can say that he had a vision for Pakistan to develop its economy so we can say if people elected from peoples vote or where there is a rule of law definitely such region will see growth but again comes karma Mr. Parvez Musharraf came and ruined such efforts, Sir you may dislike my thoughts but it’s again proved that Military in local politics of nation & foreign affairs failed in Pakistan with so called hybrid regime called one page.
