      I loved in the original show that they broke down stereotypes. Like Stella is a spoiled princess but she’s a good person (and one of the reasons I love her character). She will always be there for the people she loves and cares about.
      And also I feel like most of them act like actual teenagers (not all the time but they live in a world of magic and this is from my memory).
      But from what I’ve heard and clips I’ve seen from the Netflix show, they are just all stereotypes (which there’s nothing wrong with that because the original show they use these stereotypes to make interesting characters). I also don’t like how Hollywood thinks mature is a movie being visually dark, but the original show had some pretty dark moments but was still a colourful show.

    One of the things that really annoys me about The Winx Saga is that they didn’t have to go for the Riverdale vibe to make the show darker. The source content has full on battles, an entire planet was killed, the girls were literally fighting for their lives every other episode. The only thing they needed to do was actually have a person die every now and then or actually show injuries in the show and add in some swear words to make it less kid friendly. The source material had some really dark plot lines to go with, it was right there and the creators of the The Winx Saga totally ignored it. Another thing was the fashion in the show. They were dressing like house wives on a reality show. This show could’ve been like Gossip Girl where trends were inspired by the show and there could’ve been some really cool moments. It was the perfect show to let creativity with fashion fly. A lot of people would’ve flocked to the show had the clothing been a lot better simply because there’s a lot of people that love fashion but all of the looks they actually used were either boring or ugly or both. There’s other things that bother me about the show like dropping some main characters, changing the ethnicities of some of the girls, and the lack of friendship which was super important in the show. It was an all around mess of a show.

    @kimberlyidol Před 2 lety +143

    The coloring crossover/mixup in episode 3 of S&B actually makes sense with some context! Nina (known here fondly as Beatrice) is a character established in Six of Crows (warm tones), but she is native to the country the main character is in with the shadow fold (neutral tones) and is also Grisha (has powers, would be in the same part of the army as mc if she wasn’t currently……on a lil detour from her duty we’ll say lmao.)
    In the show storyline she was also meant to be the (six) crows’ ~connection~ to get them into the little palace aka Darkle’s Castle aka land au neutral so her character intro literally represented one side venturing into the other! Not sure if needing all of that context to understand it makes it incredibly dense or incredibly clever but as someone who read the books it felt clever lol. The directors may change every 2 episodes, but they definitely put in work together to try and keep that cohesive visual story going!!

      @dawnmayflower4422 Před 2 lety +79

      Right? Us women folk want great fight sequences too. It’s not a sex/gendered thing - it’s a people with good taste thing. Most people want good fight/battle sequences because it’s simply enjoying something created skilfully: like appreciating a beautifully cooked meal; or the architecture of a castle.
      Fucking hell liking battle scenes are not a male only thing, nor should they be created only with a male audience in mind. Just because the movie or tv show you’re creating is mostly targeted at a female teen audience does not mean you should slack off in that department. It also makes the writing and the characterisations look weaker when fight scenes are not well choreographed.
      I do wish more blokes would realize that us chicks like this stuff too. Because I mean… it’s having taste. It’s not like only women have taste buds and therefore like cake you know? It’s not like only men have eyes and therefore can appreciate landscaping.

    Hearing you discuss the problem with the specialists being trained with normal swords and weapons made me so mad at the show, because it reminded me that one of the main appeals of Winx was its technology. They had the coolest and most innovative weapon designs back then, adapting to each specialist fighting style, even their school (which was different from the Winx's one) and transportation was made to be futuristic. Winx was very technology-influenced and that was one of the things that set it apart from other fairy stories, yet they went ahead with their dark-academia and forest life thing that has been done a million times.

    I get that they wanted to age up the show and make it more "edgy" but Winx had so many elements to it that they could have used instead they turned it into the next Riverdale.
    The outfits are just bad. Euphoria did a much better and that show isn't even a fantasy series so how tf? All the characters just got assassinated terribly
    Bloom went from the kind cinnamon roll hot head that was trying to figure out who she was to edgy mean overpowered generic main protagonist girl.
    Also Bloom's color is blue which worked so well with her red hair but the writers couldn't even see that and threw red on her.
    Stella went from fashion diva who was kindhearted yet also dealing with divorced parents and being Bloom's bsf to generic mean girl put in a love triangle.
    Aisha doesn't even have a personality except being a babysitter for Bloom's shit.
    The romance also pisses me off. Winx had interesting romance but now they just always gotta add romance drama in these kind of shows

    OG Bloom has fire powers but she never knew she had them until she accidentally meets Stella. Stella is the blonde. She’s also a princess who’s powers are light. Musa’s powers are music. Flora is the nature fairy. Techno is the technology fairy. Girls can have powers but the guys can’t. When Dylan was wondering why the guys are training with swords, it’s because boys don’t have magic. AND, Alfea (Winx school) and Redfountain (Specialists’/boys’ school) are different. And for some reason it cheesed me that she wasn’t the only fire fairy, I mean the whole thing is her having the dragon flame- In traditional Winx style you couldn’t cast fire spells if you didn’t have it so whatever they’re planning is definitely changing everything

      The thing is, the original show was DARK. We LITERALLY have the trix turn people into ash and attack the schools with an army of decaying flesh and rot like? Why didn’t y’all just go with that? Or focus more on the inter realms war with the ancient ones? Hell, Fate couldve been set in the past with Daphne and tell her story that ends with her death instead we got a basic try hard grim dark series that had zero budget. Also, Terra is Flora and no matter HOW MUCH fans try to deny it Terra is Flora.
      This season I’m gonna need Musa to reveal she stole someone else’s identity and she’s actually Darcy, Beatrix takes on the name Stormy, Terra transfers and Flora takes her place and Sam and Dane get demoted to recurring characters. I want my ACTUAL Winx characters.

      Not to mention they took out Techna, changed Musa, and swapped out Flora - making any Winx connection practically unrecognizable. Techna’s powers actually wouldn’t have been too hard to adapt to a live action setting - just have it be similar to telepathy but using technology or the internet as a channel (akin to the Matrix, Ghost in the Shell, or Fringe to name a few examples). Kingdom Hearts 2 (a video game) was able to make that magic-tech combination pretty seamless with a data disc for Tron created by Cid and Merlin!
      It’s a shame because apparently a live action Winx adaptation has been the original creator’s dream for a long time.

      I think what makes this true is that you have someone that is really passionate about the project driving it forward. The content is the writer's baby, so they won't settle for less. Versus some director coming into a project that's already established, not to mention TV execs make the decisions and don't know anything about good TV. They have a product they know people will consume, why not do it on a lower budget? Who cares who directs it if the content is what draws people in? We'll make money regardless.

      @@Nuuhnn_ya you don't really have to read shadow and bone since it's a completely different storyline just set in the same universe, but it's really confusing to read alone because the world building was already done in shadow and bone, and you don't really enjoy it as much as you could've if you've read them, so I definitely recommend reading those first:) Also, it spoils the end of ruin and rising (the third book in the shadow and bone trilogy).

      @@recoveringintrovert717 lol, don’t worry it’ll make sense when we get to the Six of Crows part of the storyline/Show. It’s just a little hint shown before that. Fun fact, the producer signed up to adapt the Six Of Crows story (cause he was a huge fan of that plot, but he got Shadow and Bone’s trilogy) so he made it so that the Six of Crows characters are also in the Shadow and Bone as a prequel (since they are both set in the Grisha verse and the events of Six of Crows in the books come after Shadow and Bone)

    I think the color of the shots you're talking about is not to differentiate the story line but to differentiate where the characters are. All the warmer shots you are talking about are in the ketterdam (Kerch) while the more neutral ones are in ravka. So the scene with Beatrice (Nina) is neutrally colored because the crows is already in ravka. (This is a maybe. I'm not the showrunner. They may actually fucked that up idk)

For spring? Groundbreaking."
      anyway i digressed. what i mean is fine, take out the bedazzled fairy costumes, but maybe. just maybe. still keep to their original outfit motifs and, idk, be _interesting???_
      ngl the fact that they kept out the fairy costumes but still had to give Bloom her "transformation" sequence that amounted nothing more to swirling flames and flame wings is. so. funny in hindsight. all that build-up and for nothing?? it could've actually been kinda epic if the flame wings erupted from her back from a sudden, instinctive power awakening and power boost, and idk, MORE FLAMES. fucking ring of fire, i don't mind. the visuals could've still been epic without the original aesthetic but they didn't even tryyyyy.
