      I liked the second one because of how it explores Maleficent's race. I also really liked the designs 😊 (btw really good video, I love watching long essay videos like thi)

      Hi! Thanks so much for watching. Sorry it took so long to reply. The sequel was pretty cool getting to see where Maleficent comes from. I like how they built that world!

      @@streamcometrue Although the Remake has some narrative issues, and that it and it's sequel are vastly different from the original Disney film, which in of itself is an adaptation of the Charles Perrault telling, I do like that they want to make this world feel more interesting. If I were to be honest, I love what the remake did in telling it's own fairy folklore, based on various concepts in the past (which I'll be glad to comment on if you want to hear more).
      What also interests me about the remake and it's sequel is that Maleficent's origin in the first movie of the AU, before setting up the main story, could be a subtle reference to what the original Charles Perrault telling said about the Old Fairy who wasn't invited. In the Charles Perrault telling, on top of being uninvited because of a lack of gold plates, she was presumed dead before Aurora was born. The fact they took that detail from the Charles Perrault telling, which even Walt himself didn't go into great detail on, and use it as a plotpoint to make Stefan become the twist villain of the narrative, makes this all the more sad and tragic that Maleficent would be betrayed (which, judging by your comment within the video at 5:30, I'm sure you would agree with).
      As a sidenote, since they rewrote it so that Maleficent would give the failsafe to her own spell, that would mean one of the fairies wouldn't have to waste their original gift for a failsafe (like in the original Disney film), which also means Aurora would now have a gift of intellect or any other useful vice the fairies would've given her.
      I'd argue that rebooting Maleficent made more sense than what they did with Rebooting Cruella. Cruella was purposefully meant to be completely evil, even from the original Dodie Smith story; in contrast to the reboot depicting Cruella as being the heroine, when it completely contradicts with the original narrative for both Disney and Smith.

    I like maleficent. it's a refreshing original world building for a disney remake, didn't even think to compare with the original since they're so different

      I enjoy it as well. It's a shame it usually gets lumped in with other "soulless cash grab Disney remakes" when it really is so much more. Such a lovely reimagining. Thanks for watching!

    Wow, CZcams did something right today by recommending this video. Started watching then remembered that I hadn't seen the sequel so popped off to watch that then came back. So thanks for making me watch Mistress of Evil, it was a fun ride and it's always a treat to see Jolie in that makeup and those beautiful horns. This was a really interesting review, now I'm going to rummage through your channel.

      Ooh! I'm happy my video was recommended as well then if it led you to see a movie you enjoyed! She really was great in this role and the makeup is iconic. I hope you'll find more to enjoy as I get a chance to upload more. Thanks for watching!

    Great video, btw Lickspittle refers to a person who behaves obsequiously to those in power.
    Basically, he does everything to please the person in authority rather than giving good advice.

    I always was 50/50 on Melificent’s motivations in this and the original. In the remake, it truly fleshes her out and makes her evil deeds so much more tragic. But I also like the original cause her motives felt very in keeping with the folklore of the Fey in myth. They were dangerous, spiteful, and extremely petty, often going to elaborate ends to screw over people who did nearly nothing to annoy them

    • @streamcometrue
      @streamcometrue  Před 15 dny

      Totally! That's a great thing to take into consideration, the actual fae folklore and how that explains Mal's behaviors. It makes the original feel more like an accurate fairy tale. Thanks for the comment!

  • @zionalbina691
    @zionalbina691 Před 7 dny +2

    I actually like that the prince's mom gets turned into a goat instead of dying. If they'd killed her she would've at least died with the satisfaction of feeling justified in hating the fae, and other people probably would've doubled down on that same prejudice. But as a goat, she'll live the rest of her life as a dirty animal, a laughingstock, and a complete failure, which for her especially is probably worse than death, and the fact that she can technically be turned back at any time makes Maleficent, and by extension the other fae, look more merciful

    • @streamcometrue
      @streamcometrue  Před 6 dny

      Oh, certainly! Forcing her to suffer as the butt of a joke is fine. My issue was the tone of the execution. It made it feel teehee rather than like a fitting punishment.
      A lot of adventure and fantasy stories do that where a villain commits all sorts of atrocities, yet the response when it's time to face the music is, "Ha, they stepped in poop. We sure got 'em!"
      It doesn't work for me and Disney has shown in other films that they're capable of handling that better when they go the non-lethal route. Thanks so much leaving a thoughtful comment!

    Lovely video! I liked and subscribed immediately- this is my fave type of content! I didn't realize upon clicking that I already watched your Rebel Moon commentary (I have a sick fascination with that dumpster fire. If you ever feel like doing part 2...😳)
    Anyway, I _love_ the background music you used in this. It's deffo about to be playing in my head all day and I don't mind.
    I just have one question, and maybe I missed something, but who the heck is the kid who appears in the sequel as Mal's sidekick?? Was he the raven from the first film, turned dragon, turn raven-human hybrid? I kinda love how his existence is never addressed lol (unless you talk about it later in the vid, I'm only about halfway through).
    Anyway, thanks again, and good luck!

      Thank you so much for subscribing and leaving such a thoughtful comment! I actually did the next Rebel Moon. I just haven't edited it yet. I'm not sure now thinking about the sidekick. I only remember the raven she turned into a human in the first movie that's still with her in the second. Unless that's who you meant lol Thanks again!
